We all love our pets. Humans have kept domesticated animals for thousands of years now and they provide us with companionship and protection while fulfilling our desire to nurture.

But having pets comes with great responsibility. To the animal obviously - this creature now relies on you for its quality of life and you need to ensure its physical and emotional needs are met. And to other people too - you should be able to look after your animal and keep it healthy and happy in such a way that doesn't encroach on the lives of others.

Simple really, isn't it? Well, not to everyone. This list, compiled by the good folks here at Bored Panda, is a catalog of shame, showing the times when pet owners were jerks not only to their poor animals but to society at large. From the liberal dumpings of excrement to just flat-out animal neglect, these people don't deserve to be let anywhere near an animal again, and makes you wonder if perhaps it was time people had to get a license to have a pet.

Scroll down to see what we mean below, and let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments.

At the very least, they could make alternate arrangements for the pet (foster care, friends), a being who has given them unconditional love and affection.

Having a pet is a commitment, we'll be together through good or bad. If you having a problem and can't take them with you, the least you could do is find them another family that will love them. Not leaving them behind like this! They are a living creature with the most sincere feeling and gullible personality, please don't hurt them. Please don't get a pet if you are not ready to commit to them.

Another situation where I have sympathy for everyone, they were evicted - do they even have a home to take an animal to? Also, when things are chaotic cats have a tendency of disappearing

Bored Panda spoke to Tinsley Dahl from the Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership, who kindly gave us some important points to remember before taking the big decision of getting a pet. It's not a responsibility to take lightly!

"Before you start meeting adorable puppy eyes or pretty kitten paws that you just cannot refuse, take some time to sit down with your family and consider your overall schedule and energy level," she said. "How long will you be gone during an average day? What’s your activity level? Do you spend weekends away from home? Do you take daily walks or do outdoor activities currently?"

"Sometimes life can be unpredictable, and if you’re planning any big lifestyle changes, these can be an important consideration. Planning on getting married or starting a family soon? Socialization will be key for your pet to ensure that your best buddy is welcoming of new family members. For dogs, obedience training and proper activity can be important to curb undesirable behaviors. Big changes can be very stressful for humans, and pets under duress can experience behavior and health changes due to stressful environmental changes."

A shelter would not allow someone to leave one dog then adopt another. Sounds like there was more to the story. If this dog was agressive with another family pet or something it would explain this a little better. I mean what other reason would they be there gathered around the dog ? Just to make it feel bad ? doesn't make sense.

If even, why bring him to a shelter (to be adopted by somebody else and have the same problems, put out it wasn't with another pet they had ?), to try to pick up another at the same shelter ? Those people don't deserve dogs, or cats or nothing else. If you're sentimentally cruel to your dog, you're cruel in several other ways.

"Are you prepared to make a long-term commitment? It’s important when adopting a new pet to consider not only what having a pet entails during the fun puppy or kitten stage, but also if you’re prepared to grow with your pet. Cats and some small breed dogs can live up to 20 years! It’s imperative to consider how the needs of your new pet may change over time, and what may be required in the way of health care or other needs."

"Has your family researched what vetting costs over the lifetime of a dog or cat? In addition to basics like pet food, toys, treats, and other fun accessories for your pooch or kitty, your playful pooch or kitty will need regular checkups and dental cleanings in order to look and feel his very best for a lifetime of fun. In addition to an annual exam, your furry friend will require vaccines and potentially tests and medications from time to time. Active doggies may encounter everyday injuries just like humans. Many online resources exist that estimate the cost of veterinary care over a pet’s lifetime. Some owners choose to provide pet insurance to assist when the unexpected does occur. Pet insurance provides a range of coverage and prices from emergency only to full annual exam and wellness benefits. Friends, family, and neighbors can be a great resource to find a veterinarian. If adopting from a rescue organization, ask the rescue for a list of great vets in the area!"

For Years, Vegan Blogger Sonia Sae Has Been Allegedly Raising Her Pet Fox Jumanji On A Vegan Diet Because She Thinks That All Species Are Equals

For Years, Vegan Blogger Sonia Sae Has Been Allegedly Raising Her Pet Fox Jumanji On A Vegan Diet Because She Thinks That All Species Are Equals

Sae has already admitted that Jumanji is half blind, suffers from spontaneous convulsions and a severe skin condition. However, she refuses to believe that this is because of what do foxes eat. “They use the word ‘abuse’ to describe the act of feeding [it] food that no animal had to die for. Despite the obvious oxymoron, any other non-vegan alternative DOES involve abuse by default,” she said in a Facebook post.

"While breed is often a personal preference, it’s important to take into account the general temperament of each breed. Mixed breed dogs often inherit a combination of each breed trait and can vary in both appearance and temperament. Many rescues specialize in Purebred dogs. Similarly, purebred dogs can often be found in local shelters through no fault of their own. One of the benefits of mixed breed dogs is that because they are genetically more diverse, they are less likely to inherit genetic defects that can cause health problems."

This is my dog of the same breed (Rat Terrier) who is fat. That photo above is animal abuse, someone should take that dog away! pip-5d69a7...c7e76a.jpg pip-5d69a7fc7e76a.jpg

Why is your dog fat then? Why are you commenting on someone else abusing their dog when you're abusing yours? If you can't feed him properly then you're not exercising him enough.

We had an old dog...14 years old, accidents everywhere that we were constantly cleaning up, up to 6-7x daily...both 1 and 2. Wouldn't keep diapers on. We have young children and had to gate them separately. We took him to the vet, tried pain meds, did everything we could to help him because he was our dog and we owed him. When we realized no pain medication was working anymore, and that he was no longer with us cognitively, that's when he had him gently put down. We spend all day with him and had us appointment late in they day. Gave him tons of bacon, and on our way to the appointment, we got him a huge Wendy's bacon burger at the drive through. He happily ate that and you could see how much he was enjoying it. We stayed in the room with him, talking to him and petting him as the kind vet help him make his transition out of this life, so he wouldn't feel abandoned in his last moments. You don't abandon a dog for being old.

I actually know someone like this. She loved puppies but hated dogs. She would get a puppy, loved it to death. Went everywhere with it. Then a few months later, she threw him out in the back yard and never looked at it again - went got another puppy. Her husband (my uncle) fed those dogs but they never got any love or attention. Then they would get dropped off at the shelter. I swear, I still hate that b***h to this day. They got divorced so not sure if she's still doing it.

Old dogs can be extremely difficult, but they've given you their entire life and you owe it to them to love them until the very end! *says someone with a 13y/o dog suffering dementia*

I frequently see people from older generations who do this, and insist their pet will eat nothing else... I say they spoiled him/her with people food and created the situation. They think it's nice and won't listen to reason. I've also seen grandmas that will fatten the grandkids no matter how the parents protest (my advice? Don't leave kids unsupervised w grandparents who disrespect what you want/don't want for your kids...their anger is not your problem). I'm not sure why they think it's best for everything and everyone to be fat...nor why they are stubborn and don't listen to anyone

those levels of obesity in animals introduce other problems due to the fact they can't absolve their self hygiene functions autonomously like mother nature taught them to. But mother nature sometimes makes nasty choice, the uncleaned parts become a paradise lands for bacteria. I think you prefer I stop here, but the end is you might find just half of your pet.

Although I like to eat meat myself, I'm totally fine and respect people who don't, whatever reasons they have. But forcing this upon your pets, which have a completely different metabolism and NEED meat - that's simply ignorant and cruel.

When I’m preparing my dogs dinner, he literally bounces in and out of the back door, he spins in circles and if I’m “too slow” he yaps & barks at me, that’s excited about dinner.

Girl from Facebook needs to go to jail for animal abuse, and have her poor dog taken away from her. Then she needs to be barred from owning any pets for the rest of her life. Maybe some duct tape over her mouth and nose for an extended period of time, just to give her an idea what it feels like.

I saw this at a house I was working on, previous owners moved out and left their 2 cats, along with around 30 lbs of cat food. I fed and watered them every morning I worked there. Offered to take them but then new owners said they would take care of them once they moved in.

This looks cruel but cats are very sensitive to relocation. They are often more conected with the place they are used to, than the owners themself.

We moved twice with our cat without any problem. The thing is, if you really care about your cat, you take informations about how to move in a new place with your cat without it being stressful for the cat (i.e. keep the cat in a small room first, with all his/her toys, food, litter, familiar objects, then let him/her explore at his/her pace). We did as adviced and everything went well both times. We were even surprised by how quickly our cat made himself home each time ! The only time he really had issues was the first time he arrived at our place - we adopted him after he spent 6 months in a shelter (left by his previous owners). It took him time to understand we'd never leave him behind and that this new place was his new home. Observing his behaviour then and now made me realise cats, too, are affected when abandonned.

I inherited a cat when moving into a new house, the previous people left a bag of cat food outside, I was horrified they would abandon him, the thing with cats is that they often get attached to a place not the people, we were there for 7 years, when I was packing up to move he started spending more and more time at a neighbors house eventually she asked if she could keep him as she had become attached to him & he had stopped coming home so I said yes, he was 12 years old and we were moving 12000 kl away.

The older I get, the fewer f***s I give about speaking up when I see something like this. I no longer care about the feelings of abusive or rude people. I would walk right into the tea shop and ask in a very loud voice who the animal abuser is who left their dog outside in such extreme cold. And my voice would not stop as I followed them out of the building to tend to their dog. I would even tell them I’d take the dog from them if they can’t dredge up enough humanity to take care of it properly. I very much want people like that to be very publicly shamed.

I would VERY slowly untie the dog and walk it back and forth until the "owner" came out freaking out. Then I'd be like why are you freaking out? And they'd be like "that's my dog" I'd be like yeaaaaa, you surrendered that right when you left him out in the freezing cold. He's MY dog now. "

Even with snow on the ground, Kirkland doesn't really hit "below freezing". They make it sound dramatic like it's negative 20 but was likely 31 degrees. (Really, I'd guess it was 35-40, we rarely get below freezing during the day.) Even my 15lb Pomeranian Chihuahua mix is happy as a clam to be outside for ages at that temp. I have to drag him back inside when I get too cold, he's never bothered in the slightest by the temps. This is hardly a horrible pet owner, more like the OP just wants attention and something to be "outraged" by.

This one is different than most of the other examples. Kirkland is basically Seattle. The temperature rarely falls below --4 C (25 F). This is a normal sized with a full coat. The cold is not the issue. He is whimpering because he wants to be with his people, not because of the 'cold'. My outrage meter only reads a 1-out-of-10 on this one.

Agree with calling the health department. You can also call the police and have her fined for littering. Those fines can run up to $2000 in some areas. Maybe if she gets enough of them, she'll no longer be able to afford her apartment. I feel bad for the cat though.

Called my landlord about an ongoing god-awful c**p smell. Couldn't find anything. Turned out my downstairs neighbor (young guy) was an alcoholic and he wasn't letting his dogs out. At all. They weren't lapdogs either, they were golden retrievers. I believe he's currently in rehab - hope it works for him.

This is how the dog will die a horrendous death. Owner will forget its there and back up on it and/or even worse, the dog gets dragged for miles. This is a horrible human who doesn't deserve that poor animal!

I suppose it's a better solution than leaving the dog in the car on a hot day. They can sniff at things and lie in the shade.

Yep, squirrels have no business being pets. Even rescued squirrels should be put in a facility where they can be semi independent, they aren't pets to drag around in a leash

Yes, but that's only the removal of the hair. The product is now used and needs to be sanitized. No way to know if that dog had fleas, mange, or any kind of bacterial or fungal infection. Or maybe even just an infrequently bathed, smelly, dirty dog. I would not want that to touch my own dog if I keep mine clean, bathed, and groomed.

Ok this is a little funny and I know it's hilarious to draw eyebrows on animals but it should seriously stop there it would be so traumatizing trying to wash a full face of makeup off a cat and unless you made the pigment yourself with things that you know aren't bad for the animal you should just not. However dying a cat pink with beet juice is something I've seen and it's hilarious

Sucks for the millions who have allergies and can no longer go ANYWHERE without feeling like they have a cold (every f**cking day of their lives). Try dealing with a 4yo with allergies who's felt like he's had a cold all his life, and it being all that much worse because selfish people can't bear to leave their pets at home for an hour.

I notice on the window it says Macao. Which I Googled, Wikipedia tells me Macao or Macau is a region in China. I know from seeing it on Facebook and other postings on the internet that in fact some of the Far East countries have Pet Cafes where pets (mainly I've only seen dogs in the pictures) are welcome to come into the cafe with their owner. And I guess in some places be on the tables. I suspect pet owners may pay more to be allowed to have their pet with them. Also there seems to be at least 1/2 dozen other patrons to this cafe who don't seem at all upset that someone has allowed their dogs on the table, so I'm guessing that it's accepted 'thing' here.

The fish is a pleco, it’ll be fine outside for a bit. The problem is the excess food. When food waste breaks down, it turns into ammonia that is poisonous to the fish. That’s why a lot of pet fish die from overfeeding. Most plecos are algae-eating bottom dwellers who usually eat sinking pellets. They can also be fed zucchini slices.

With the filters and everything unplugged, there will be a buildup of toxic ammonia, and no oxygen will be circulated into the water. It will either poison the fish or suffocate them, not sure which first. The food that they can't fit into their overfull stomachs will rot and get them sick pretty quickly too. At the very, very messy keep everything plugged in, do a cleaning and water change, and use a few vacation food tablets...still wrong but at least the fish won't die before they are discovered.

Looks like some sort of Pleco, sure they start small but some species turns pretty big. I have one who is over 3cm now but is going to be maybe 10-12 cm if not more in a 54l tank and I feel that is too small now.

This is why I don't. My ex brought a dog home one day (didn't ask or tell me, just came home and he was sitting in the living room). I sighed and read up on how to take care of it as I didn't expect she would. I read about how bad "dog food" is for dogs long term, so started making the dog's meals. Vet was amazed how healthy the dog was. We separated, but she dropped the dog off to run an errand. It was sad how his coat was dull and you could see that she wasn't taking care of it and feeding it "dog food" all the time. We eventually divorced, but I still get her mail. We had separate houses and I got a court notice that her tenant was complaining about the dog running around the house crapping all over, while she stayed in her room with her boyfriend. Miss that dog, but since I am single and work, I haven't gotten another one. I would just feel bad leaving him alone all day. If you can't take proper care of a pet, you shouldn't.

We had a family cat. One day, my parents adopted a dog. Well, to be certain both pets would be fine, my mom made clear upstairs would be cat only. Result ? Both pets shared home in a bizarre relationship (dog worshipping the cat, the cat taking pleasure going on the stairs and looking at the dog who was forbidden to do so), until the end of their lives. If you care about your pets, you doesn"t get rid of one to get another !

Used to see this all the time at the groomers. Then the owners get angry when you tell them it's going to cost them $10 every two weeks to bring the dog in to work the nail back again. We cannot just cut them down massively or the we will cut the quick and the dog will bleed uncontrollably! If you can't cut your dogs nails, take them to a groomer at least once a month. A nail kit for a dog cost $35. You can even get the dremel ones that sand the nail back a little at a time.

Ugh... I mean I understand washing/wiping the dog's butt so they don't lick it and get poop and germs in their mouth, and then spread that when they lick people and other things...but why not just wet a paper towel or something with the water and then clean the dog? Obviously do not put the same wipe in the water again...or just carry dog butt wipes with you along with the pickup bags...they are commonly sold at pet supply stores.

Same thing happens with seasonal workers at beach resorts, especially with cats. Dumbasses think a cat can survive at the beach because fish (cats don’t like water, how are they going to fish?). No, idiot. They can’t. That’s how I ended up with my two beach cats, Mary and Ringo, when I lived there. They were just past kitten stage when I rescued them in the parking lot where I lived, and happily and contentedly lived to be 12 and 17, respectively.

My girl friend and I had a "priviledged" room mate in college. She got an albino rabbit as a gift and kept him in a box, under her bed. My GF and I got fed up and asked to take the rabbit off her hands. We took care of the rabbit for about two years, but he eventually died from dysentery. We didn't know at the time, but rabbits require straw for digestion. We only fed it rabbit food. But we made sure that he was released everyday to run around the house and get exercise and socialized him.

A long time ago I was a passenger of my teenage friend’s SUV and she must have went through a complex intersection the wrong way and we had a relatively minor accident with another woman. That woman had a dog in her vehicle that was not harnessed in any way. I don’t know much about dog care but this seems pretty normal. The dog was injured in the accident though. Not horribly but it had a very obvious head injury / gash on the head. Ever since then I realized it’s important to keep the dog harnessed even though dogs love to sit up and enjoy the air.

I don’t understand what people are mad at here? Pet safe dye exists, it’s not like the dog cares. Just because it’s a service dog doesn’t mean the owner can’t have fun with their dog, it’s not like the haircut prevents it from doing it’s job.

It looks intentional to me, like they made the dreadlocks on purpose, because the rest of the dog looks clean and not matted. Don't do this to your dog's tail!!

This is better than most the other stuff at least. Dreadlocks are not attractive. On people or dogs. Groom your dog properly, it isn't a fashion statement. If you think it looks good feel free to do it to yourself.

My neighbors got a new dog and did this twice before we went off on them. The first time I assumed was an accident. The second time the dog started attacking / playing with another puppy that was being walked by a different neighbor in front of my house. My fiancé had a very stern talking with them. Now the dog always greets me through the fence and my neighbors ignore me lol.

As long as it’s animal safe dye there’s nothing wrong with that, The problem here is that the dog is in a public place with an “ESA” vest and ESAs don’t have public access as they’re not medical equipment, so this is illegal and she’s taking advantage of people not knowing any better

Look at what she is wearing, it's probably around Halloween time. She wanted her dog to participate. I don't think this is year round. Even if it was...it's completely harmless to the dog. Maybe silly if done all the time, but completely harmless

Hey!!! I´m part redneck! We have a dog at our house. She has several medical issues and has been in and out of countless homes. We are keeping her despite the constant care she needs becasue we love her. We also live in a neighborhood where if you go on vacation at least 5 people would be happy to walk and feed your pup. We currently are feeding the neighbors cat as they are out of town. So not all rednecks are animal abusers. Do your research before making an assumption like that.

Well, maybe for some people, they love their pet and think it looks cute decorated/dyed. Doesn't harm the pet. It looks silly, but it's no different than when you see a doting parent put a huge ridiculous bow on their tiny daughter's head, or put them in a silly costume. If the kid is young enough, they don't care. The parent adores their child and enjoys accessorizing them. Many people see their pets the same as they do their children, with the same affection, and will do similar things

We shaved our golden retriever every summer for the heat in the desert. One year we gave her a Mohawk but she refused to come out of her doghouse....she knew & was not cool with it. We shaved it off & she went back to being fine. They totally know...but I bet it's personal to each dog if they are into the attention or not. Ours was very much against it so we obliged by fixing it for her.
