30 Times People Regretted Meeting Celebrities In Real Life Due To It Getting Awkward
Sometimes, you meet a celebrity and they make your day. But it can also be awkward. And comedian John Field is much more interested in the latter rather than the former.
This autumn, he asked Twitter users: "What's the worst interaction with a celebrity you've ever had?" From Devi Lovato and Kid Rock to Jessica Alba and Cillian Murphy; turns out, there's no shortage of those.
Of course, we must remember that everyone has a bad day and nobody owes us anything just because we heard them on a stage or saw them on a screen. Plus, some people tend to exaggerate. But with that being said, it's still a pretty entertaining thread to say the least.

We managed to get in touch with John and he was kind enough to have a little talk with us about the now-viral thread.
"I came up for the idea for the tweet after reading a thread of 'bad celebrity interactions' and wanted to tweak the wording just a little bit so people would basically give me answers about where they were the bad people in the stories," he told Bored Panda.
My sisters best friend was his "special girl" when he was in town. This was in the early 70's (before cosby show or even fat albert). She asked if we could meet him as we loved his comedy. "The reply was No, he does not meet fans" At that point I lost ALL respect for him ( I was old enough to figure out his relationship)
Dude. Why do celebs do this s**t all the time!? I've heard this same story about like 10 different famous people. Always trying to cut in line and then getting mad when nobody lets them and throwing little tantrums because they're not used to being treated like everyone else.... they're especially not used to being treated exactly how they treat others either. They hate it.
I always suspected there was something fishy about about that guy.

After scrolling through the replies, John thinks the funniest story belongs to Andy Richter who had a seriously weird interaction on the set of New Adventures of Old Christine. "It's one of those awkward experiences I relate to."
"As a person who works in a customer service job, I get the sense that when celebs are out in public they have to be 'on' all the time like when I'm dealing with customers, which seems exhausting," the content creator added.
Which is true. Billie Eilish, for example, has had a hard time adjusting to her popularity. "I don't mean this in a necessarily negative way, but I sort of lost my teenage years, because this all started when I was 13," the singer told Dutch channel 3voor12.
"There is no training, there's no like, let me go to a school that's going to teach me how to be famous. Also, that would suck. That would be trash school ... Famous people suck," she added. "Fame is trash."
"The original thread I read that inspired my post was about people complaining about 'bad celebrity encounters' and halfway through, it felt like the people approaching the famous people in the story were the rude ones, not the celeb, and so it made me a little sympathetic to people who have the limelight on them all the time," John said.

most of them weren‘t rude. Some just said something any person could have said, but people think it‘s rude. Especially the ones, were the celebrity let them take pictures, but didn‘t smile. Since when do you have to smile if you don‘t feel like it?

In the days before cell phones I was talking on a pay phone when a white guy accompanied by two muscular black guys I later deduced were bodyguards rudely interrupted me telling me he needed to use the phone. I told him I’d only be a few minutes & he indignantly said “don’t you know who I am?”.”Not a clue”, I replied. He stood by looking pissed off & kinda butthurt until I finished my call. Still don’t know who he was.
I really want to know who it was now.

I met AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys at work once. Walked up to him, extended my hand and told him my first and last name and then walked away. Like we were in a business meeting and had just closed the deal.
I feel like it must be exhausting to be a celebrity and have everyone want to talk to you 24/7, and most of them probably do have to deal with stalkers and creeps. But on the other hand, celebrities aren’t better than anyone else and should still treat people like people
totally agreed. but i do think they can just say no or distance themselves when they don‘t feel like talking during their private outings.

First things first, I am not a celebrity. I am, however, recognizable and a classical singing student. I was at the groceries with my mom a month or so before the pandemic hit, when two girls, I'm guessing 7 or 8, came up to me and asked "are you the lady who sings opera at the school [of Fine Arts]?" I got very flabbergasted, my whole body was shaking and said an almost inaudible yes. Yhey sighed with admiration or something and asked for a picture. Somewhere there's a picture of me with two kids in front of a shelf of floor cleaning products. I went full shy Patrick Star after their parents walked away with them. Couldn't even move, I had a mix of what in the world?! with YOU LIKE ME, YOU REALLY LIKE ME! It was a very awkward and thrilling experience.
I used to act in a lot of school plays and musicals and I had a young 'fan' who would send me letters, telling me how much she loved/liked me. Her Mum was one of the costume designers and used to 'hide' the letters in my costumes. Awkward, but sweet!

I met Sir David Attenborough at a book signing years ago, I was a little drunk and swooned over him like a teenage girl meeting a pop singer and I asked if he wanted to come for a pint after and he said he couldn't make it, laughed and shook my hand, that was a great encounter.
Back when Brad Garrett was doing stand-up comedy, I accidentally dropped a full #10 can (~1 gallon) of cocktail sauce on his brand new Tony Lama sharkskin boots. The guy's built like an oak tree and I thought he was going to slaughter me but he was nice about it. He said "It's okay. It's ooookay" in that distinctive basso profundo.
My brain is wired very weirdly and I don't have good facial recognition at all. Al Roker was doing his thing on his summer series (visiting different states across the US) and he was getting food in a city near me. I was with a friend getting lunch at the same time. It was in between takes and, with Mr. Roker only about 5 feet away from me, in my view, I asked a camera operator what the big deal was. He pointed at Mr. Roker. I looked over and then, once again, asked what the big deal was. My friend grabbed my arm and we say down across the street on a bench and she said to me "That was Al Roker, hun, you were interrupting a shot". Very very embarrassing. I wanted to melt into a puddle on the concrete.
I met David Cassidy, a dream for my mom. He allowed us to take a picture which was nice then snapped at us and others that we weren't holding the papers straight enough for him to autograph quickly. I appreciate him taking time to do this but he snapped at a lot of people for a lot of small things. I met Patula Clark there too and she was lovely. Chatting with everyone and full of compliments and nice things to say. Quite the contrast. Maybe we just caught him on a bad day sometimes we forget that they are people too
So I don't know who that is but I'm imagining a Chihuahua

I was in an airport lounge and the woman next to me struck up a conversation and kind of acted like I should know who she was and I thought “Is this someone I went to high school with and don’t remember?”” So I started asking about her family, how her parents were, hoping for her to give me something to jog my memory. We had a nice conversation, then she had to catch her flight, my wife finally came back from buying something at one of the shops and saw her leaving and asked me “was that Renee something ? How do you know her?” “That’s just someone I knew in high school.” But I did not know her in high school. It was Renee Zellweger.
I literally bumped into the wrestler Yokozuna at the local mall near San Francisco in the early 90's. He was gigantic. I didn't say anything because, me being a teenager, I though he only spoke Japanese, and had no idea he was in fact Samoan and grew up in San Francisco.
Never heard of half the people in this list and the only one I could maybe recognize is Ed Sheeran so I think I am good - if I make a fool of myself in front of somebody it is not because I am thunder struck by their celebrity status but just because I am, well, possibly a fool...
senior year Guggenheim bookstore: Friend: Oh my god...she kissed Willie Nelson! Me: Where's Willie Nelson?! Friend (apparently WN Superfan): NO she kissed him in a movie! Me: WHO?!?! Friend: Turns me to look face-to-face with this woman "HER!" Me: (looking dead in her face) WHO IS SHE??? Friend: AMY IRVIN!!!!!!!!!!! Me: WHO?! I don't remember how Amy Irvin reacted...but finally I was like "OH!!! She got her leg grabbed by Carrie! smh

Met Ken Dodd once backstage with a crowd waiting for autographs (he was a English variety celebrity). Weird looking guy , no eyebrows at all
At a space event where I'd managed the STEM program, was chatting with the guitar player that had played with Neil Armstrong's son, Rick Armstrong. Talking about equipment and acoustics, then asked, "So how do you know Rick Armstrong?" "He's my brother" Oh.
So... These people are supposedly famous? But still, celebrities are "rude" just because they don't let you treat them like their are your property?
As is usually the case with this type of post on BP, I'd be willing to bet a fair chunk of change that at least half of these stories are pure, unadulterated bullshit.
