There’s always something people have demonized. First it was fat, then it was food additives, and lately it has become sugar. But things people see as evil don't end with our diet.

Other commonly disregarded stuff may have to do with music, like the controversial band known as Nickelback or going to psychological therapy, or not liking animals like rats, tarantulas, and snakes.

We rarely reflect on why specific things cause us such adverse emotions, so this viral thread may give us some perspective. The simple yet thought-provoking question “What doesn't need the hate it gets?” was asked by Redditor u/Alexdoesthedo, and it has clearly produced some very illuminating responses.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Reading.

Even those who read scoff at what others read and it's not necessary.

Reading overall is good for the brain and memory. Comic books, magazines about cars or fishing, romance novels, old classics, it's all reading.

There's no need to feel shame or shame someone for what they read.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved People who want to live a basic, "normal" or "boring" life. From all generations, I am constantly hearing locals/normies being made fun of for not wanting a ~fancier~ lifestyle but like... Why does that matter? 35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Rats. They're some of the funniest, most affectionate and intelligent small pets, with a ton of personality, who actually enjoy engaging with people.

They get a terrible reputation for carrying disease or being aggressive- which is just not true for domestic rats. Growing up I had almost every common pet rodent you can think of, and hands down I'd pick a rat over a hamster any day.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Cats. Many people I know absolutely despise them because they think they cant love you the way some dogs can, or they remind you of the stereotype "crazy cat person" or the whole "they're all aggressive/bitey/scratchy" thing. Once I had both dogs and cats (and reptiles!) in my house - and though I love both, cats tended to speak a little louder to me. I'm part of a TNR company and ended up raising one of the cats I caught while searching for my missing cat last month and realized how sweet they can be if you take the time to earn their trust and give them space when it's asked for.

They have surprisingly formidable fangs.I found a skull in my yard once (I was raking and it rolled out at me like something from a horror movie). I thought it might be a raccoon, but my vet identified it as a possum. I gave it to him for his collection since he said he couldn't cure it.

Fun story: I caught a juvenile one when I was a kid growing up in NC. Sweetest thing ever, would sit on my shoulder and be hand-fed. My sister got jealous and wanted one, I caught another. THAT one was the meanest thing ever, and had the ability to projectile sh*t, which it proceeded to do at her multiple times. I let mine go after a few months, and ran into it in the woods a few times. I knew it was mine because it would run up to me and try to crawl up my leg, waiting for a treat.

We raised 2 from bottle fed babies that could barely walk to big enough to be let go. They were orphaned when their mom was hit by a car. Only found the one on the roadside. Had to pull the 2nd one out of her pouch while she was cold dead. Couldn't find any more than those 2. They stink when they get old enough to produce musk. Otherwise they were fun and used to curl their tails around my fingers.

We got 2 new puppies at the begging of the shutdown. We have two decks, tiered at the back of our house. I let the pups out around dusk and sat on the bottom steps so they could go to the bathroom. I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and reach out instinctively to pet, thinking one of the pups came out from under the deck. They like to play hide and go seek & chase under there...just as my arm extended I look over to see a possum waddling towards me, open mouthed. I let out a screech and ran in the most inelegant fashion, I wrenched my back. Lol. The terrified possum waddled off & jumped over the fence. My pups finally approach me to see why I screamed. Possums are scary looking. Especially with open mouths. It may have been smiling, I'm not sure, but it was coming towards me and that was enough for me.

They do. Playing dead is actually an involuntary response to stress. They can't control it and it can take hours for them to snap out of it. Also, their a**l glands secrete a green fluid that smells like death warmed over. Its quite disgusting but it serves its purpose. No animal wants to bother something that smells so bad. That being said, I wouldn't trade my four opossums for anything in the world. I'm so lucky to be in a position to take care of these sweet, funny and sometimes highly annoying creatures that aren't able to be released back into the wild.

They carry a disease called EPM. (equine protozoal myeloencephalitis) It's a nerve disease that kills horses by slowly liquifying the brain. By the time 1 horse is showing symptoms, you can bet 5 others already have it. It's 100% lethal. You won't find one of these wretched creatures anywhere near my barn.

I'm in favor of practicing any religion you like, but Islam is one of the most intolerant religions to ever exist. There is no Muslim-majority country where being gay isn't hazardous to your health. There isn't a muslim-majority country that isn't a hellhole in regards to women's rights. Islam is incompatible with liberalism, the same way 14th century Catholicism is incompatible with liberalism. If you want to follow Islam, as a liberal I say you do you, but don't expect me to turn a blind eye to the religion's social problems.

People do not hate the veganism, we hate the aggressive, "only we can save the world, you f***ng animal killer"-like evangelist vegans.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Boy bands/ any music where the target audience is teens/young women. people need to stop assuming that anything that is liked by that demographic is stupid.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Kristen Stewart--she's just socially awkward during interviews! She's a decent actress. People freak out that she's not super emotionally expressive... Some people just aren't!
