Tensions are flaring up as the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic continues. And it seems like pretty much everyone is at each other’s throats.
We’ve got people who are willing to get vaccinated against Covid-19 debating the hesitant who believe that they’re being forced to get the jab and that this infringes on their liberties and privacy. Among the latter are some fringe conspiracy theorists and anti-vaxxers who believe that the shots supposedly contain graphene oxide, microchips, cause infertility, or are a way for the Illuminati to increase their control over all of us.
However, the internet’s full of people who see it as their duty to fight fake news and to call out those wearing tinfoil hats. They do this by verbally destroying anti-vaxxers in the comments on social media, and Bored Panda's collected the proof to share with all of you. Check out the most powerful roasts below and let us know which ones you thought were worth calling the fire department over by giving the pics an upvote and writing up a comment.
Dr. Andrew Carroll, from Arizona, went into detail with Bored Panda about why some people are afraid of the vaccines, why the benefits outweigh the risks, and what we can expect to see in the near future, as we're slowly moving out of summer and into autumn. He told me that the vaccines are doing their job very well and helping protect people from hospitalization, even as new variants of the virus emerge. However, defeating the pandemic will require everyone to be on the same page. "If we're ever going to get out of this pandemic (and further variants) we are all going to have to pull together as one unified world, break down vaccine disparities, and use universal precautions."
According to Dr. Carroll, it's the fear of the unknown that drives vaccine skepticism. "We did introduce a brand new vaccine type, the mRNA vaccine. The great thing about it is that we were able to create a vaccine in such a short period of time. It used to take years to develop. This technology was created for the primary purpose of being able to respond extremely rapidly to a fast-moving, debilitating, and deadly virus such as this. Dr. Carroll explained that those hesitant to get jabbed have heard stories about reactions to the 2nd shot or about "the occasional rare severe reaction." That explains why some people are suspicious and more careful.
"Reactions do occur, but the severe reactions are exceedingly rare, and with such a deadly and serious virus, the benefit of the vaccine far outweigh the risk of it. We are already seeing that the vaccinated in the US who are exposed and contract the Delta variant are far less likely to require hospitalization. That is exactly what vaccines are meant to do. It's doing its job, and it's doing it well," the doctor told Bored Panda that there are more upsides than downsides to getting vaccinated.

Well considering the number one cause of death was Influenza a hundred years ago and centuries before and now the number one killer is heart disease and flu is about the 9th. I would say vaccines and medical advancements have improved quality of life, so much so that the number one killer is something caused by people's own lifestyle choices (mostly - generics don't help) instead of a virus.

My mom (who got the smallpox vaccine when she was young) said should the disease ever make a reappearance she's taking all of us (I have four siblings of which the youngest is 19) to go get vaccinated and all I could think was "Well, that'll be an interesting family road trip."

I have a friend whose mother is a nurse. This nurse is an antivaxxer. This antivaxxer says that eating healthy, washing hands, and getting proper exercise is better than getting vaccinated. We got into a debate, my friend and I. However, we decided to just not bring up the topic again. My debates unfortunately have the effects of ruining my friendships.

According to Dr. Carroll, some groups use (and actively spread) the misinformation and conspiracy theories to consolidate their power and for financial gain. "I believe there's a great deal of misinformation out there, perpetuated by echo chambers, or interest groups, on social media. If you associate with the people who confirm your beliefs, then you're more likely to not be willing to take in new information that might change your mind," he said.
"There are groups, primarily political groups, which take advantage of this and continue to echo their message. This is in order to maintain power. It is not in the interest of improving their health or getting rid of the pandemic. It is in the hopes of maintaining their vote. The anti-vaxxers have found their strength amongst the skeptical, and rather than accept that science has a better way, they continue to push their antiscience/antivaccine message in hopes that you will continue to listen to them, attend their conferences, by their books, watch their shows, and purchase their alternative medicine."

The doctor also commented on the current situation regarding the pandemic in his local area. "Of course, school is in session (the school district around me has been in session for 2 weeks now), and we're seeing a rapid spread of the virus amongst school children. Arizona has the second-highest rate of deaths among children 17 and under, and yet we are the 14th most populous state. Only Texas has had more deaths," he shared the bad news.
"This is very concerning and reflects the disparities in healthcare, as well as the problems with not requiring schoolchildren to mask up while in school. We also would like to see more uptake of the vaccine in the 12 years and older group."

French President Emmanuel Macron has pushed through the vaccine passport to help stem the spread of Covid. The health passport has finally been implemented in France despite the country having just finished up its fourth weekend of protests against the idea. Vaccine skeptics believe that it’s infringing on their freedom, though the constitutional council upheld the legality of most of the new measures proposed by the French government.
Across the Atlantic, in the US, rightwing TV and radio host Dick Farrel died after getting coronavirus. The Guardian reports that Farrel was a big critic of Dr. Anthony Fauci (whom he called a “power-tripping lying freak”) and urged his listeners not to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Conspiracy theories have been around forever and Covid/mask/anti-vax ones are just the latest batch. However, currently, things are getting worse with the proliferation of various conspiracy theories.
Lee McIntyre, from Boston University, told Bored Panda during an earlier interview that conspiracy theories have been around since the time of Nero in the Roman Empire. “They pop up in times of turmoil or mass unrest when people try to make sense of the world, but can’t,” he said.

I mean, yes. But the drugs pushed were OxyContin and Vicodin that kicked off a massive opiod epidemic. Maybe, just maybe, we shouldn't let pharmaceutical companies advertise directly to consumers and give doctors kickbacks when more prescribe their treatment. Maybe we should run medicine more like we're running vaccines and give people the meds they actually need, accurately and for free.

Omfg I have crap lungs and clotty blood and I got my jab, ffs. My flu jab had way more side effects (very mild side effects of aches, tired), compared to covid jab (No side effects). People here (nz) are waiting patiently to be vaccinated in groups, appointments booked to the hilt, there are naysayers sure but they are the few and the quiet. And they won't have the documents to prove vaccinated, which might be needed for other countries and the govt might require use of it here should covid get in the border again

I've not been vaccinated, but for a good reason. I've been in hospital with two, non-covid related serious illnesses in the last six months and I haven't got the strength to cope with any possible, adverse reaction to the vaccine. N.B., I always wear a mask when in the company of anyone.

Because they are not only risking their own lives, but the lives of those around them. Such as those who can't get vaccinated. They're also putting a huge strain on the healthcare system. Many doctors and nurses have developed PTSD since the pandemic started. A lot have quit their jobs and the ones who've held out are losing their faith in humanity.

In my humble opinion, the real problem isn't the arm-chair anti-vax googlers, it's the very small number of actual doctors and other medical professionals that are posting all the stuff they find and fueling all the conspiracies. Those guys are the real root of the problem and should honestly have their licenses revoked.

Some older friends (70s and 80s) have refused the vaccine. I've stopped trying but I worry for them. One lady lives with her son and DIL. Son brings home COVID. DIL gets it two days later. Friend asks me about getting the vaccine. I told her to go to any pharamacy and even called for her. I also told her it was most likely too late. Sure enough, the next morning when she was going to get the shot she tested positive. She is EXTREMELY ill. We are supposed to go see Wicked tomorrow night. Obvi she'll miss it. While I hate she is so sick, and I worry about how long she'll be down, it's ultimately on her. I know yiu can get it after vaccination but it's nearly as bad. They take shots for everything else. I don't understand why everyone is so against this one.

I have (a bit sadly) settled on the conclusion that nature has a way of taking care of business, and that ultimately, if we are a product of survival of the fittest and natural selection, all those anti-vaxxers in Darwin's waiting room are just going to die out and leave a more mentally useful cross-section of society behind. I am in the medical field. The ONLY people I know getting sick are vaxxed. Some of them are having complete breakdowns of their organs in one way or another. Most doctors are too afraid to call out the truth.

This is all very interesting and yes, at times, funny. BUT as it concerns the covid vaccine, there are serious, serious problems with the vaccine and a lot of people are having side effects. Some of not serious (I had an auto immune reaction and ended up with Alopecia - hair is growing back, but there is be NO third booster shot for me, alopecia is not serious, but other auto-immune reactions are including lupus - so no thanks), but others are very serious including an high number of young men who are having heart problems after being vaccinated. And given that young people are on the low, low, low end of getting the virus to begin with, the rationale to push the vaccine on young people makes NO sense.

Yes, but in the inverse to what you intended to mean. Vaxxed people have sadly weakened their immune systems, making them more prone to just about every degenerative disease there is. Your immune system is a miracle. mRNA is a very crude technology (at this point) and messes with innate immunity. The vaccine doesn't work, doesn't lessen symptoms of COVID, and damages your system. It's a lose lose drug.

In any case, that link doesn't support your argument in the way you think it does. In the early part of the pandemic, the main reluctance to perform autopsies was because of the fear of contagion. It says that right in the article you linked to: "Davis and Williamson published a letter in early June 2020, which deals with the risk of infection during COVID-19 autopsies." Why would you pay any attention to medical advice from someone who is not an expert in the relevant field? Ignore the influencers, social media stars and famous people (actors, athletes, Fox News). Go to the source: WHO, CDC, NIH, Journal of the American Medical Association, your doctor. Are they insulting you, relying on blind faith and adoration of authorities? Or are they reading the science, performing the tests, and trying to save people's lives?

Maybe it's time to switch tactics. Convince antivaxxers that only weak cowards are concerned about the toxins in the vaccines. Strong people know their bodies can handle it.

Big deal, so you shut them down. You didn't change their minds. Antivaxxers won't listen to facts and reason. They will continue to twist reality to suit their ego. They might change their mind when they are really sick but it will be too late for them to get the vaccine.

Because they are not only risking their own lives, but the lives of those around them. Such as those who can't get vaccinated. They're also putting a huge strain on the healthcare system. Many doctors and nurses have developed PTSD since the pandemic started. A lot have quit their jobs and the ones who've held out are losing their faith in humanity.

I've gone through six months of agonizing pain, but you also insist that I’d be vaccinated regardless of whether or not it will possibly kill me? Your words ‘how much jeopardy you put everyone else around you in’. Mazer, I've not even elaborated on the prior 1½ years where I've had symptoms of diverticulitis that has recurred, but fortunately did not become peritonitis again (Emergency surgery 10 years ago for a perforated diverticulitis. Oh, you die from that by the way!) which resulted in me having a reversible stoma; do you want to see the pictures? In my humble opinion, the real problem isn't the arm-chair anti-vax googlers, it's the very small number of actual doctors and other medical professionals that are posting all the stuff they find and fueling all the conspiracies. Those guys are the real root of the problem and should honestly have their licenses revoked.

Some older friends (70s and 80s) have refused the vaccine. I've stopped trying but I worry for them. One lady lives with her son and DIL. Son brings home COVID. DIL gets it two days later. Friend asks me about getting the vaccine. I told her to go to any pharamacy and even called for her. I also told her it was most likely too late. Sure enough, the next morning when she was going to get the shot she tested positive. She is EXTREMELY ill. We are supposed to go see Wicked tomorrow night. Obvi she'll miss it. While I hate she is so sick, and I worry about how long she'll be down, it's ultimately on her. I know yiu can get it after vaccination but it's nearly as bad. They take shots for everything else. I don't understand why everyone is so against this one.

I have (a bit sadly) settled on the conclusion that nature has a way of taking care of business, and that ultimately, if we are a product of survival of the fittest and natural selection, all those anti-vaxxers in Darwin's waiting room are just going to die out and leave a more mentally useful cross-section of society behind. I just wish that legislation prevented them from risking their children's lives too.

I am in the medical field. The ONLY people I know getting sick are vaxxed. Some of them are having complete breakdowns of their organs in one way or another. Most doctors are too afraid to call out the truth.

This is all very interesting and yes, at times, funny. BUT as it concerns the covid vaccine, there are serious, serious problems with the vaccine and a lot of people are having side effects. Some of not serious (I had an auto immune reaction and ended up with Alopecia - hair is growing back, but there is be NO third booster shot for me, alopecia is not serious, but other auto-immune reactions are including lupus - so no thanks), but others are very serious including an high number of young men who are having heart problems after being vaccinated. And given that young people are on the low, low, low end of getting the virus to begin with, the rationale to push the vaccine on young people makes NO sense.

Yes, but in the inverse to what you intended to mean. Vaxxed people have sadly weakened their immune systems, making them more prone to just about every degenerative disease there is. Your immune system is a miracle. mRNA is a very crude technology (at this point) and messes with innate immunity. The vaccine doesn't work, doesn't lessen symptoms of COVID, and damages your system. It's a lose lose drug.

Bullsh*t. If anything the numbers are underreported. Also, pneumonia is one of the things that covid gives you, it's not a separate disease. Do you not realize that it attacks the lungs??? In any case, that link doesn't support your argument in the way you think it does. In the early part of the pandemic, the main reluctance to perform autopsies was because of the fear of contagion. It says that right in the article you linked to: "Davis and Williamson published a letter in early June 2020, which deals with the risk of infection during COVID-19 autopsies." Why would you pay any attention to medical advice from someone who is not an expert in the relevant field? Ignore the influencers, social media stars and famous people (actors, athletes, Fox News). Go to the source: WHO, CDC, NIH, Journal of the American Medical Association, your doctor. Are they insulting you, relying on blind faith and adoration of authorities? Or are they reading the science, performing the tests, and trying to save people's lives?

Fully vaccinated is 1,22 Billion, but lets take that figure, 90.000, that means 0,00073% of fully vaccinated people have died from the vaccine.
