Friend of ours had a similar experience. Her name is Michele but goes by Mitch and she used to be some kind of manager at at oilfield. Guy comes in and asks her to make him coffee as he has a meeting with Mitch. She calmly makes him coffee, then sits down at her desk and says, Hi, I'm Mitch. Always love hearing that story.

This happened to my husband. He was visiting a different school than his own to teach a group an ethics seminar. He was asked to show several forms of ID even after he showed them his school employee ID on a lanyard around his neck. He finally said I guess you won't be asking me this when I'm at the podium! This was after several white employees had walked past without a second glance and showing NO forms of employeeID.

This reminds me of going to a college to hand out certificates and they were still collecting parking the old fashioned way... cash. I had none. So I told the parking attendent he would have to let me park for free or there will be 200 students disappointed as I was the President of the association for which they were all awaiting their certificates. Wow! Always apply for jobs you want no matter what the requirements say. The people who write the job ads usually have no idea what that position actually does. I got turned down for a small raise by my supervisor, he said the owner said no. My stubborn ass went to the owner with a mini resume of my duties and experience to ask why. The owner was never actually approached and my supervisor apologized and gave me the tiny raise. Both men had a better respect for me after. The other lady in the department who was told I was basically her equal, not so much.

HR being responsible for the hiring process of things they don't understand has led to so many companies not being able to find talent. I'm a drafter and once had an interview where I was asked "how close" I can tolerance. Did not want that job after that question. That same company required 5 years of experience SPECIFICALLY with AutoCAD 2018 - posted the job in 2019.

Nice 👍 Once in college we had a project about mental health. We were a group of 5 people. Since we all lived far from each other we decided to do the project online. Using Skype and emails. One of the group members, the lazy one , decided to copy and paste something she found online. The rest of the group were unaware about that. On the due date our professor seemed pretty displeased with us. She said “ I believe you guys copied this essay from somewhere online. “ We denied the plagiarism. Then our professor reaches out into her bag and gets her paper, she even made sure she highlighted all the bits that were copied. It was our professor’s work. Sometimes it’s just stage fright. I once was in a shopping Store waiting patiently for another till to open as it was getting busy when the lady behind me pushed in, when the young till operator questioned her and said i was before her she started a whole hooha and talking loudly and swearing how dare she say that to her a valued customer. I worked for a screw machine manufacturer for 23 years. I would constantly get calls from men with questions. When I tried to help they would want to someone technical. Each and every time I would say "Just give me a shot" Almost every time the question was so basic (what is an outside diameter?") I had all I could do not to laugh. I'd answer their questions and then quite often get "Oh, I guess you do know".

I work.in an ICU. 98% of our COVID patients for the last 6 months have been unvaccinated, and many of them have died. The vaccinated don't even come to us unless they gave severe comorbidities (cancer being the most common), while the unvaccjnated get desperately ill or die. It's that simple.

Literature teacher brings out an anthology of poetry and passes it around telling us to pick a poem and analyze it. I'm leafing through and see a familiar name; my mom's maiden name. Turns out the inclusion in the book was first prize in a poetry contest she entered as a high schooler. So, I did exactly what anyone would do in this situation; asked her what the poem meant, wrote it up and turned it in. Teacher handed it back: it had a huge red "D" on it and notes as to the "real" meaning behind the poem. When mom saw it, she came to school the next day DURING CLASS and told the teacher SHE had written it and what I turned in was exactly what the poem meant. I just sat there looking at the teacher with a smirk on my face

Wrote a poem in 8th grade. Pretty advanced poem for a 14 year old, about all the emotions I felt while listening to a particular piece of classical music. But I was a rather deep-thinking child, and the words just flowed out of me as I listened to the piece. My English teacher, familiar with my work over the semester, submitted it to the school district, for them to put in a yearly book of student achievements. They returned it, saying I didn’t write it. They said I cheated, and that some adult wrote it for me. My English teacher tried to stand up for my work, but they decided to publish one of my classmates’ poems instead. It was about the Ice Cream Man.

A similar thing happened to me in 8th grade. I wrote a short story and my teacher accused me of having my parent write it. My parent was my 89 year old great grandmother who only had a second grade education and was barely literate. I was so upset and angry because I worked so hard and failed. This teacher had met my great grandmother several times and knew I was in the gifted program and advanced literature classes and still accused me of plagiarism. Some people shouldn't be educators.

Teacher in India slapped the crap out of me for several minutes, made me do 100 situps as punishment for not submitting my notebook for monthly checking and for lying to her about submitting it already. I had an English teacher in 10th grade accuse me of plagiarizing a writing assignment I did which was stupid because where would I even get a prewritten assignment on writing a letter to the mistress of the main character in A Good Earth? She called me up in front of the entire class and demanded I tell her who I copied the letter from because it was beyond my "reading level". I said I wrote it and then she tried to insinuate that it was impossible because I'm first generation Chinese-American and no one in my family could have taught me. When a friend asked me what that was about, I said she accused me of plagiarizing and this bitch of a teacher made a class announcement alluding to me misunderstanding her intentions.

I was the Program Director of a successful child care center and had a really nice office. One day, we had the Fire Department visit the kids on Friends in Our Community Day, complete with the firefighters in their gear and, of course, their truck. While the classes were outside exploring the truck, the HR Director came over for a visit. I’m brown-skinned and was pretty young, and she was Caucasian, in her early sixties. While we were chatting in my office, standing at the window watching the kids, a firefighter came in and joined the chat, sat in the “executive” chair, and then asked “Mary” if it was ok if he sat in her chair as he spun around in it. Mary looked at him, looked at me, and laughed. I very casually told him that this was my office, but, sure, he could sit in my chair. He jumped up, apologized profusely, hugged me and turned redder than his fire truck. He said he would never judge a book by its cover again. 😉

Had the opposite once - man driving cut my husband up in an illegal move on the road and then tried to claim he knew it was legal because he was a police officer. Nope! Didn't fit anything in the highway code at all. Many requests for proof and his number so that my husband could take it further did not get anywhere. He might well have been an officer but he was certainly not in the right.

Yeah, cops unless under direct order can't force you to wear a mask either so "mall cops" - cops who are employed or security employed for specific stores or functions for stores - would really be the ones allowed to even try to implement these things. Wearing a mask isn't in the law, therefore it is not in their rights not job description to locally enforce and mandate. Too bad there are unfortunately police out there on a power trip.

Exactly! A sauna doesn't have to be uncomfortable to be 'good for you' at all! It should be something relaxing, that's all. It might be good for your hearth health, but there's not that much evidence that saunas have health benefits. Still, getting uncomfortably hot is not good.

Physical discomfort is the body's warning that the water is too hot therefore unsafe for you. Get out of saunas that are too hot for you. A sauna should be calming, soothing, with no more than the very minor discomfort of sweating a little. One should be drinking water to prevent dehydration.

Anand's interviews and book have been enlightening. It is so true that you CAN'T just assume that all people who look even mildly Asian are Chinese. Example: Me and my friend coming back from the park where we had been walking our dogs. I've never found them to be aggressive, but when I've encountered them up close I just leave them be -- unless they're daubing where I don't want mud. Then I gently shoe them off (with something other than my bare hands!) and scrape away their constructions. my dad(retired lawyer, now he’s in to architecture) went to law school for quite a while and he just loves to ramble on and on whenever me or my siblings have questions about law or smth. i think his favorite story was when he was taking a test or whatever it was to finalize it. the test was meant to be very hard and specified to put you under high pressure with little amount of time to solve the problems. someone stood up towards the end and threw their computer at the f*****g wall and stormed out. i don’t know about you, but i think it’s pretty funny. anyway, case and point, four months isn’t even close to enough experience nor education on the topic. take what i say with a grain of salt, though, because i don’t know everything about constitutional lawyers and i sometimes read things wrong, but like, four months just doesn’t sound right to me lol

Hopefully people who can't be pushed to turn on their camera are allowed to just keep it off. You never know who is having issues with stalkers, a toxic family, hyperreligious parents, etc who don't want to risk their image getting out of them attending something. From the account, I'm guessing the show related to activism, possibly LGBT or BLM. Some people could be disowned by family, attacked by members of their community, shamed by their church, or have a difficult time in their workplace if the wrong person was on the call to see them.

Skin tone prejudice is a real thing and not "racial nonsense" at all. A lot of the successful black models and actresses are lighter skinned. Rich black men have a tendency to marry women of a much lighter skin tone than themselves. Around the world, preference is still shown for black women with lighter skin tones, including in black majority countries. I get that in this case, the pictures are all of one woman, but the question about light skin is part of a bigger issue.

I told them that wasn't true because we have been developing MRNA applications since, at least, the 90's. He told me I shouldn't believe what I read on "liberal websites". I told him I didn't read that online; I distinctly remember reading a research paper about MRNAs around 2000, which means it must have been developed before then. But he read that it had only been out for less than a year, and nothing could change his mind about that.

Having been a player of MTG and a good friend to the creator of it's most popular card, Black Lotus, I can tell you it was never designed to be a children's game. As far as how the shops sell it, that's due to lack of an alternate description of the game. A game is a toy..but there is nothing that says toys are strictly for children. I miss Chris Rush. RIP

Same. Seems kind of stuck up to me. I have been to a lot of concerts and have met famous people that I didn't initially recognize. They were always nice about it because listening to someone's music is different than watching an actor or model.

I've bumped into several musicians without recognizing them. Some of them were insufferable. Two young men in a bar rudely snapped at me about not giving autographs when I politely asked them to let me pass. I visibly destroyed their egos when I said, "I don't want your sloppy signature, I'm asking you to step aside so I can get back to my table." My friends promptly informed me that the guys were a famous drummer and lead singer. They aren't all bad, though. I bumped into a very chill group of guys in a service station once. They were asking the clerk where the best coffee house was. I directed them to a shop a couple of blocks away, and, since I was going that way, we walked and talked. I mention that I was in town to catch a concert that night, and they said they were that band. I was like, "Oh, cool!" and we parted ways at the coffee house.

For the person questioning why a homeless person has a phone and internet….I was homeless at the beginning of this year, however I had a phone (the cheapest one I could find) and internet access, without it 1.Homeless solution people wouldn’t be able to get in touch with me and 2. I wouldn’t be able to apply for housing. It’s 2021, when will people stop seeing Mobile phones and internet as luxuries only accessible to the well-off?

I'm glad you were able to get help. I hope you are in a better place now. People who have never been there, just don't undertsand. I was homeless before the time of cellphones. I couldn't get a job because potential employers could not contact me.... because I didn't have a phone. I put myself into an abusive relationship just so I could get back on my feet. Maybe if I had a cellphone, I wouldn't have had to choose between eating and not being beaten. Cell service in American costs $30-$50 a month, rent is $800 for one room with no utilities, no groceries, no phone - just a room. People need to stop comparing the two.

this is shitty. One guy has the means and the way and the other guy makes a valid point about the direction of their efforts. Someone comes along and for some reasons challenges him to clearly "put him in his place". What good does that do her? she is protecting a company that is looking for free advertisement by TEMPORARILY housing refugees while neglecting homeless people. The refugees need these houses and I'm happy they have them, but AirBNB just does this to get people to go "awww, they are compassionate".

My mother in law's doctors, dentist etc know everything, as soon as I tell her anything my health visitor or midwife has said on their visits "What do they know", "we never did that, they're wrong" ..."babies don't change so caring for them doesn't" etc etc ..we've actually come to blows over this when she said I should be giving my son a bottle when he's exclusively breast fed..I couldn't breast feed my Daughter so I'm thrilled my Son takes to it but she was constantly battling to get him on the bottle for no reason other than to have her own way -.-

Ah people judging someone before getting all the facts. I've lived with this all my life. Despite having 20 years under my belt doing what I do, often people that don't know me can get pretty snarky. Not shaving for a week helped as I pass the 40 mark. Prior to that, it was pretty frustrating.
