yeah its some total fuckshit. There was a time (im sure it still happens but it was rough for a while) that around me, the darker skinned black people would talk s**t about others being "lightskinned" and the lighter ones would say how they are glad they arent as dark or "dirty" I was like.... Yall, what in the actual f**k.... And working at the liquor store they would talk to ME about it.... Im white. Not only do I not give a f**k about a persons shade, I realllllly can't speak about a community that I am not a part of.. Just be a normal, nice human.

It matters b/c people have formed communities around ideas of shared racial heritage (not genetics, but heritage/history), and they themselves see these as based upon skin color/race. Your own family can toss you out if you look "wrong" by what they consider themselves to be. E.g., your European DNA is expressed more strongly than your non-European DNA, or vice versa. People are basically stupid. We all bleed red.

As a light-skinned black person, that is what I have to go through every *freaking* day of my life. it's NOT fun whatsoever.

This has nothing to do with a dark skinned black person not accepting a light skinned black person as "black". Generally, light skinned people are accepted as black. The problem here is that typically, representation of the vast scope of shade diversity in the black community is very often heavily focused on light skinned people, particularly women. Black people have a hard time getting mainstream roles, and if they do, they are typically light skinned with more Euro features. The dark skinned ones typically get picked for roles portraying people considered lower on the social pole, such as slaves or druggies. OP is offended because she thought this was yet another slight to dark skinned black people. She was clearly wrong, but when you see it all the time, and grow up in a society where people are conditioned to buy into the lie that only light skinned black people deserve representation or are beautiful, its an easy trigger. It's a representation issue. Mass media has started a foolish unseen battle by using only a certain skin shade of black women to represent "positive" images of "attractive" black women and ignoring medium to darker-skinned women. So her first instinct was to jump to a conclusion instead of checking her facts. I get it, but black women (all shades) none of us are the enemy. And that's me speaking from an underrepresented shade of black women. We all fly as hell.

There's always a problem when a segment of a community tries to define what it is the be part of that community by the exclusion of others within their own community. The idea that one can be viewed not black enough is a huge issue on its own.

Because we are being trained to be divided.

Literally writing a book about that now. It's what I've tried to explain to people my whole life but no one ever really gets it because they fit in with a racial group quite easily.

Sad world. Too many people think they have the right to tell other people what to do, how to talk, how to look and whatever. I hope I won't live till 106 as my grandma. 🤦

Actually, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, she would be considered as "pardo". Not shure if this term is still correct nowadays, but if you search "pardo" on Google, you will have an idea about what talking about. The majority of brazilian population is consedered pardo, mostly because of the long history of black, native americans and europeans having children between them for 500 centuries.

Still beautiful for people with eyes and minds open, however. She's lovely and has a very creative eye for the costumes.

Agreed. Some people are just that way. I have six biracial grandkids. They haven’t had any problems with discrimination on either side of the aisle. Really great kids. I also don’t give a rats a*s about what color they are.
