In fact, there’s a whole corner of Reddit with a cheeky name “Bye, Bye Job” that’s dedicated to sharing “images or stories of people losing their job, a scholarship/admission, or another kind of opportunity due to their actions online or in person.”

I don't care that this is almost certainly going to get downvoted, I'm saying it anyway. There are far worse viruses than covid. There are vaccines for those viruses that stop contraction and transmission in all but a tiny handful of cases. These vaccines are not mandatory. These vaccines do not come with a passport to let you go out in the world. Covid jabs are barely effective and still officially in the testing stage, but people who don't have it are being treated like second class citizens. This is not right, but the companies are making BIG money so doing their best to quash complaints through ridicule.
Of course there are worse viruses. Ebola for example. However there is no current vaccine for Ebola. And the flu vaccine is not specific enough to warrant a mandate. It is only a scientific guess as to what strain will be the predominant strain causing issues that season. Covid is different. And it hasn’t mutated enough to where they can’t cover it in the vaccine. The vaccine is not a cure. It keeps the sick at a manageable level (out of the ICU) and helps get us to herd immunity. And it is not in the testing stage. This type of vaccine has been studied since SARS.And how long are people going to wait before they deem it “safe” enough to take? Years? When the original vaccines were being used did people freak out, or welcome the chance to end small pox, polio, etc?

Do they not realize many employers actually have people who do nothing but watch and review the various platforms?

I disagree with many of these people's views and opinions. But I am really not sure that having offensive opinions is a legitimate reason for someone to lose their job. I mean, it's one thing if you refuse to follow company policies, like refusing to wear a mask at a job where everyone is required to do it. But in many of these cases it seems like the person was doing fine on the job, yet something they said or did outside of work got them fired? That doesn't seem right to me. In the US, we are supposed to have certain protected freedoms. Like free speech, free association and assembly, freedom of belief, etc. Even the freedom to be stupid, stubborn, offensive, or just plain wrong. As long as you are not doing bodily harm to others or destroying property should your unpopular viewpoint be a cause for job termination? Especially in the cases where people are not even expressing their views at or during work, in some unrelated venue or in private.

And I understand that it seems off because it feels like people are being fired for something they didn't do at work. But there is other parties than the extreme view people. These folks don't work alone. So consider working with someone that finds whatever race/sexual orientation/etc that you happen to be inferior. People don't treat that which they find to be inferior fairly. The extremist feels justified in oppression. So the business is acting to prevent that kind of behavior both towards its employees and its customers. And, TBH, the business can be sued for the behavior of these people. "Cancer" is a blanket term for several diseases caused by problematic cell growth, which can stem from anything from sunshine to scar tissue. The vaccine that you're talking about protects against a virus that can cause cancer, not cancer itself. Also, cancer isn't contagious.

One point that is rarely addressed is that getting the Covid vaccine does not prevent one from getting Covid or transmitting it. I think labelling people who are hesitant as anti-vax or anti-science is not helpful in the least. Key point to note is how quickly, within a few months, the supposed symptoms came on. The covid 19 vaccines have been an established programme for nearly a year with large number clinical trials proceeding that by many months. They used knowledge from 2002 & 2012 SARS & MERS research and built on that. Several billion people with the vaccine in them, healthy & well. It does prevent you getting covid by a significant percentage, but not 100% so also helps reduce transmission. Not a guarantee but don't dismiss it. The most significant benefit is that it does prevent hospitalisation & reduces risk of death. The risks from covid far outweigh the tiny risks from the vaccine. Some people are scared and so seek information to support their reasons not to have the vaccine. It is self defeating. Better to seek reasons why they should. Challenge your own views and gain more rounded knowledge.

"Cancer" is a blanket term for several diseases caused by problematic cell growth, which can stem from anything from sunshine to scar tissue. The vaccine that you're talking about protects against a virus that can cause cancer, not cancer itself. Also, cancer isn't contagious.

One point that is rarely addressed is that getting the Covid vaccine does not prevent one from getting Covid or transmitting it. I think labelling people who are hesitant as anti-vax or anti-science is not helpful in the least. This hesitancy is not helped by the fact that previous vaccination campaigns in recent history have resulted in disastrous, life-changing side effects for people. Key point to note is how quickly, within a few months, the supposed symptoms came on. The covid 19 vaccines have been an established programme for nearly a year with large number clinical trials proceeding that by many months. They used knowledge from 2002 & 2012 SARS & MERS research and built on that. Several billion people with the vaccine in them, healthy & well. It does prevent you getting covid by a significant percentage, but not 100% so also helps reduce transmission. Not a guarantee but don't dismiss it. The most significant benefit is that it does prevent hospitalisation & reduces risk of death. The risks from covid far outweigh the tiny risks from the vaccine. Some people are scared and so seek information to support their reasons not to have the vaccine. It is self defeating. Better to seek reasons why they should. Challenge your own views and gain more rounded knowledge.

What happened to good old "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?
Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. Are the consequences disproportionate when spreading misinformation and its attendant risks?

The ones who got fired for refusing to be vaccinated may be putting other employees and clients/customers at risk; many of these others are, quite frankly, bad publicity for the company, and companies are allowed to evaluate that risk and say, "Nope, we don't want you representing us."
