We all have our secret shames. Guilty little skeletons in the closet that we would never dare to confess to even our closest friends. Well, not when sober, at least.
The great thing about the internet is its anonymity. Behind the protection of a screen, people can feel liberated to say things they never would in face-to-face conversation, and really say what they mean. Of course, it goes both ways and this can also lead to all kinds of bullying and abuse, but that's for another post.
This post is all about getting it off your chest and owning up to past wrongs. While confessing anonymously to randoms on the internet is hardly taking responsibility for one's actions, the very act of confession can alleviate feelings of guilt and help people to get on with their lives. From the hilariously trivial to the actually quite profound, these confessions will take you through a rollercoaster of emotions, and might even make you reflect on your own past transgressions.
So scroll down below to check out the sordid details for yourself, and let the therapy begin!

i always did it. and turned them away when i thought i'm doing something they wouldn't approve. just in case :D
I used to have a Daffy Duck stuffed animal. I cut his collar off because it was choking him.
I made sure to cover or put away my sisters dolls at night.... cause Chucky.
According to an article in Scientific American, any type of open and truthful disclosure reduces stress and helps individuals come to terms with their behavior. "It is not coincidental that some of the most powerful people or institutions in many cultures encourage people to confess their transgressions," they write. "And there is very strong evidence that writing about upsetting experiences or dark secrets can benefit your mental and physical well-being."
Interesting that you chose chicken pox as your "name".

Agreed. I would totally send them an "un-invite", telling them why they were uninvited.

If your kids are vaccinated why are you worried?
Load More Replies...Yeah I agree with this. I care more about animals than the majority of people.. humans suck for the most part.
Children and animals. Because they are innocent.
Load More Replies...I feel bad too. Humans have hands to open doors and use tools to escape. Animals do not.
It has to do with people know better . . . pets don't have a choice . . .
Just this year, the next town over from me flooded. I didn't lift a finger to help. Then the Zoo next to that flooded and I was like "Oh no! What can I do to help the poor parrots?!". I am fully aware this is an irrational and morally dubious reaction, but my I have to force myself to remember to care about humans, my first instincts take care of it with animals.
I know it's wrong, but I feel same way. There ARE real good people outthere, there are just too few of them.
So do I. I feel worse when pets get murdered than when people do too. People suck Animals are innocent and loving
"First, simply putting emotional turmoil into words changes how we think about it. Giving concrete form to secret experiences can help categorize them in new ways. For instance, when we translate emotional experiences into words and stories, we start to think about them in a simpler, less menacing context. There is no solid evidence to explain this phenomenon, but it most likely occurs because talking or writing about a disturbing event helps us understand it better. And things we do not understand cause greater anxiety."
People can be toxic, and "family" are people too... I never understood that thing of forgiving anything "because they're family"... if they're c***s, they're c***s... family or not... and sometimes, the best one can do, is to be away from family...
I have 3 sisters and a brother who did the same. I stuck around so my mom wouldn't be alone. they email and tell me what I should be doing for her. jerks.
My mom was an awesome lady. She taught me about plants. She didnt want me to learn Spanish. She was very proud of her German language. She ended up listening to Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. It was so sad to go there and listen to those lies everyday. I did learn Deutsch but i dont speak it anymore. She died lonely. I should have stayed there, but it was already too late.

I've been suicidal on & off for 20 years, but going through the pain of losing someone I very much liked has kept me from doing something stupid. Ppl don't really recoup from that pain that's left behind, and I hope you know how devastating your death would be for your family and friends OP. Please see a Dr. about maybe getting on a Rx to help with the symptoms and maybe therapy. Please.

"Dozens of studies have also shown that expressive writing is linked to less stress and improved sleep and cardiovascular function. We know that better sleep is associated with enhanced immune function and better general health—which correlate with better mental health, too."
"Expressive writing and religious confession are not panaceas, but these forms of release can help us get through difficult times. The beauty is that you do not have to be religious to benefit from confession. The underlying mechanisms are available to anyone for the price of a pencil and paper."
Same tbh. I especially hate it when they do this while hiking/camping. People go in the mountains for the quiet, if you want music blasting go to a club.

Tell me about it.. My baby is dying right now from bone cancer. It hurts so bad and idk how I'm gonna get along after she's gone.
Oh, so so sad! It is heartbreaking but at least you'll have done all you can and she knows she is loved. Maybe, after some time, you can help a little scared animal in need of a loving home. Knowing I could open my door, arms and heart to another doggo is the only way i coped. Didn't stop grieving but it helps change some of the focus. Miss every pet I have ever had and always will.
Load More Replies...I get it. When my first dog died, I mourned 4 years. Literally took 4 years to not tear up at the mention of his name.
My best friend Bubbles had to be euthanised over 5 years ago and I still miss her dearly. We do have another dog now but I will always have a special place in my heart for Bubbles.
Hopefully you'll get to a place where you're ready to open up your heart to a pet again.
Or, wanting one, but not able to be at home with it all day. Dogs want company !!
I loved my dog but always knew I would out live her. Her passing was not awful. Certainly a lot cleaner and less grief-filled than my father's or grand parents. But I often miss her more than the family members I've lost.
I can relate, my dog was euthanised the day after my poppa died and her death affected me more than my pops.
Load More Replies...It's always still worth it. The duality of life is unavoidable. The love trumps the pain- that's why we live!
It’s heartbreaking when a beloved pet dies, even if you haven’t had them very long. I lost an 8 month old kitten I’d had since she was 8 weeks old, and I had to go home for the rest of the day immediately after getting the call. She was at the vet to be spayed, normal procedure (her littermate brother had been neutered the week before and was just fine), only no one knew she had an underlying heart condition. She went into cardiac arrest during the surgery and died on the table. That was 4 years ago, and I still think of her. She was a sweet little clown, and I had been looking forward to 20 years of her antics making me smile.
So there you go. Got any guilty secrets you've been holding on to? Try writing about them, and allow yourself to properly express your emotions. It is clearly a great benefit to both your mental and physical health!
Agreed. I love my husband with a heart and a half, but sometimes I just don’t want him around. Oddly enough though, I never feel that way about my pets. Uh-oh..... (jk).
I feel that way about my husband AND dog.. but as soon as they go to bed I miss them.

Load More Replies...One more for affirming the normalcy! My girlfriend requires some alone time each week to just process her own thoughts. She desires it. I don't usually want it...but I've learned I need it my own self too. We miss each other when we're apart, but the consequences and fall out when we don't make that space is always worse.
That is wonderfully supportive of you. I feel the same way as your girlfriend does, especially now that we have two kids and both work full time - I need some alone time to not have to speak to anyone or listen to anyone but just be alone with my thoughts. Unfortunately my husband has a very hard time understanding that and takes it personally. Even if he says he understands and supports me, he will be mopey and sad. This is very difficult to deal with. You are doing a great job or letting her determine what she needs and supporting her.

Go out shopping, walking, whatever for some me time... if your SO doesn't understand that then explain it to them
Walking works soooo well! In a house full of family and animals, the house is boisterous and lively, and even though it's a fun place to live, I love to put on some headphones and go for a walk, sometimes for three or four hours. I may be surrounded by other humans but it's precious alone time that I love!

I play more with my sister in law's dog than with her kid, but I do like him (he's only one, so far so good).
I think we have higher expectations for people than we do for pets. Sometimes they can't live up to them. I bet we would like a lot more humans if we held them to the same standards as our pets.
I am sorry. I get that you love dogs and you have the right to live anyone or any creature you like. But this indifference towards kids and portraying kids on bored panda as if they are not worthy of love is horrible to me. I love animals. I love my cat. But my kids are the most amazing creatures I have in my life. And I absolutely adore my nephews. They are part an important part of me and I would do anything for them. Enough with the attack on kids please.

I live in third world country and I still have more love and sympathy for animals lot more than humans.
Developing, not third world. A lot of people in developing countries are very happy so why wouldn't you care more about abused animals?
It is very difficult for people living in the "good" parts of the world to imagine what life is like in third world countries or at war...
Me too. The way I look at it is that people will always prioritize other people when it comes to providing help. Animals just get left behind to fend for themselves, and some cultures still don’t consider them as sentient creatures (which they most obviously are). I donate exclusively to animal charities, which tend to manage on shoestring budgets anyway, yet do some amazingly wonderful work. My first thought in a disaster is “What about the animals?”
Anything with abused animals makes me sob uncontrollably FOR WEEKS, esp when I'm trying to go to sleep and then every single time it randomly flashes in my head. I might feel bad for someone whose in a situation, but that's about the jest of it.
There are plenty of people in third world countries who are happy and live good lives. Yes there are things like starvations and slums, but that’s not everyone, it’s just one aspect.
Why? They can afford to take the time to make memes on BP vs worrying about where their family's food & drinking water is coming from tomorrow - so they are likely just fine. The heartbreak you're feeling is the definition of a first world problem.

In Las Vegas in the 70s, I was too young to get into casinos. Back then The Strip was lined with p**n shops and I went in and out of all of them. I couldn't afford the prosthetic leg, so I bought the eye for $10. Friends have taken that eye in its velvet jeweler's box and set it on the window sill in countries all over the world. There's a piece of paper to note the date and country.

It's so true. I tend to stay well away from most fandoms, because there's always a few really nasty ones who will make your life miserable because you don't ship their ship, or something similar. Load More Replies...It is a year ago this Memorial Day weekend (2019) that my beloved Flüf escaped out a 2nd story window, during an outside party with loud music, that scared him, I'm sure. I put up signs, I still have them up offering a reward. I miss him dearly, our entire family of 5 does. No cat could ever replace him. He is a Silver to Black tail Persian/Himalayan with Blue eyes that I am afraid someone just kept because he is beautiful. Flüf is microchipped but I never got a phone call and I checked with the local shelters as well.
If the owner is found, go to a shelter and find one to rescue and love !!!
You'll feel better if you try to return the kitty and nobody claims her than if you keep the kitty and hear of some really nice people who lost a kitty just like yours.
This was me 16 years ago when I found my cat Sigma. Looking at him sleeping right now :) If the kitty is outside, the owners obviously don't care for it. Keep it. And KEEP IT INSIDE FOR F**K"S SAKE.
No! Maybe the neighbor kid let him out. Maybe he's a houdini like one of my cats was. Maybe a latch broke on a door and no one realized. That's really judgmental to assume the owners don't care for it. I utterly understand the poster's desire that the owner not be found, but very selfish of you to suggest they don't even try because the owners don't deserve to have the cat back.
Load More Replies...Yes. It's even normal for most people to only like 20 in 100 (or 110) people. Let anone highschool kids in their puberty. I must add though: there's definitely a difference between students I really LIKE, students that are okay, and students that I truly dislike. And even they can be interesting, depending on the type of behaviour that make me dislike them.

If I am honest, as a teenager I was an a*****e too. I apologized myself at my mother around 25 when I realized what I done around that time. Most teenagers are. It is not their fault, it is just this age. You have to find your way and you do mistakes.
Same. Although I do want them all to succeed. (And also want them to grow the f@<k up)
...And coming from a high school student, probably only about 20 of you 110 students like you
my brothers gf got pregnant and lost it. I was secretly pleased cause they don't have their s**t together and live in a trashy apt. with no ambition to make their life better. his gf is also not right in the head. I am glad they lost it cause it would have made mess out of their already messy life. however, I'm curious if it would have given him a reason to change.
I agree with the concern, but shouldn't the babies life being messed up been a higher priority? I mean, that is the job of being a parent, teaching your kids how to be better people than you yourself are. (I have also seen parents who never change, and parents who changed everything because of their child)

You can only live the life you have . . . having a feeling about something is not like committing a crime. She'll life her life. You can have your own feelings. Not everyone else's news will make you happy or be your concern. Comfort who you can and you don't have to confess everything you feel to the world.
May b it's right for her. Having kid so early is never been good. Kids are gift of god.. i agree but being a kid who is having a kid is never been a right choice.
I don’t know that she wanted to get pregnant. Just says she had a miscarriage and was sad about it. That doesn’t mean that it was intentional.

Fella, when you have kids, just be sure your daughter never dates your bestie’s baby brother. You don’t want grandchildren with five heads.
So technically ur best friend's brother's father a.k.a your bes friend's kind of a step dad?
Exactly, the point of feminism is for you to not get shamed no matter what you choose.
Load More Replies...Neither do I, the first 2 don't exclude the other 2. 🤔
Load More Replies...There are some "feminists" (who are not actually feminists) who see traditionally feminine things such as being a wife or mother as bad things. They're not bad if you choose to marry and have children, they're only bad if you're forced to do those things
Load More Replies...Can we just agree that a woman can be a feminist and have a husband and kids? One does not negate the other. She can also be a housewife and cook an elaborate breakfast every morning for her family. Feminism means the right to choose how you want to live your life and being happy with said choice.
Furthermore, she can educate her kids as future feminists as well, contributing to a more female-friendly society for future generations.
Load More Replies...It's not that easy to be successful and smart and find a man who can handle your intellect. Not impossible, just not easy. The older the woman gets, the harder it becomes too. I feel for her. I'm lucky I found mine early.
I hope you do. Men don't have to choose either a career or a family, why should we? You will need a husband who does his part and hopefully a good support network of friends and family when kids enter the picture!
Then get married and have kids! There isn't anything wrong with it! You can be a scientist, a feminist, a wife, and a mother! Don't feel like you have to box yourself in because of anyone else's stupid binary-d outlook on life!
Wanting to get married and have children is not something only women want, men do as well... so it has nothing to do with being feminist or not
I tried the vegetarian life...don't have the discipline for it. lasted one week only.
If you have to discipline yourself to be vegetarian, it's not worth it. If there comes a time in your life when meat disgust you, then go for it.
Load More Replies...It happens. Basically, your body can't handle a sudden assault of meat, including the grease. I'm the same with greasy meats and milk, which I stopped consuming several years ago. My stomach protest loudly if I eat any now.
It’s because the gut bacteria that breaks down meat is no longer there.
Load More Replies...Sorry, this is funny. But easily understandable, ten years of no meat and you eat a burger...it isn't a bad decision, nor a good one, just a decision made. Your stomach and body however are not used to it and any change in the diet can have that effect temporarily. I hope the car was easily cleanable.
A friend of mine (vegetarian, not vegan) decided to drop out meat (and fish) because it made his stomach feel weird. Nowadays, if he eats any meat, he vomits and has diarrea. Your organism "forgets" how to process carnic products and those are the consequences.
This is why I don't eat meat, thankfully it never got diarrhoea bad, but made me feel awful. So I had a giggle at this post
Load More Replies...This can happen with any new food, people who only eat a small number of things can try anything new and it will just go through you quickly.
I have a near-vegan diet. I eat vegan but I occasionally consume meat, dairy, and eggs to keep my gut bacteria regulated. Just in case of the apocalypse and meat becomes easier to find than greens.
Tummy wasn't used to all the grease, the meat and dairy :-P Been there, done that.
When I was 7 we moved into a brand new house, and we did some serious renovations on the outdated bathroom. When the wall was open I slipped in my diary because in my head I wanted someone to find it years from then when they renovated again or demolished the house XD its still there!
It's sad that this is seen as a shameful thing. It's perfectly normal to feel ánd show emotions, for both men and women!
Not meaning to diminish the real problems re: men not being allowed to cry, but I'm a woman and I cry at movies too and I have a terrible shame around it. Maybe because a lot of people tease me - because they know it bugs me. Also because I will cry at even very badly done scenes. I wish I didn't. Anyway, at least when people tease me they do it lightheartedly, I know it would be way harder if I were male.
Load More Replies...I do that all the time, I love feeling emotions. Im an ex boxer and am a bit of an alpha male. But screw that I cry like a baby at films. Get that heart on your sleeve and be brave.
Hiding the fact you have emotions is the least masculine thing ever. Being afraid of crying is not manly. That said, I try to think of other things to avoid the water works, haha.
Load More Replies...There is an odd cultural dynamic I struggle with. My old-fashioned English family do not think men who cry are sissy or anything. Its just they think they are manipulative, unstable and probably very untrustworthy. And that crying is entirely unhelpful in every situation. But my Iranian family don't trust anyone who cannot cry at the correct social prompts, as if not crying shows you do not care at all. Its a tricky path to tread.
this is quite interesting - never thought of it that way - but you cry or don't cry someone is always doing something wrong - same way with if you smile or don't smile, if you are laughing or not - people are always doing something wrong in the eyes of others - no one seems to adopt the 'live and let live' attitude anymore

OMG, I SWEAR THAT my sister did this to me. She bet me 100 dollars that I couldn’t finish the 1000 piece puzzle. I finished it all but one piece while she was at a sleepover. I went CRAZY trying to find the last piece. I looked under the couch, in the couch, under the table and still couldn’t find it. I gave up and the next day she came over and was so happy that I didn’t finish it. After five minutes of searching she found it...UNDER THE TABLECLOTH. HOW WOULD IT GET THERE WITHOUT SOMEONE PLACING IT THERE!! I was so shook and accused her of putting it there, but she denied all allegations. To this day, she still hides the last piece in random places around the house just so she can put it in.
Oh man, in our family this would cause terrible distress. My sister-in-law gets almost violent when puzzles are involved. We once spent like an hour obsessively trying to find the piece for this one spot and everyone was digging through the piles the other puzzlers were sorting out and there were threats regarding what might happen to any person who was found to be hiding it. Tempers were super high. We finally found it elsewhere in the puzzle because it had apparently fit with two edges but in the wrong spot.
Then stop lying!! Tell people you're ready to date. Watch what happens!
You can change this ANY TIME! Meet people who do what you like to do. Teach people what you like, learn something new. There are more people on the face of the earth than ever before. You do not have to be alone. Start any time talking to anyone who listens. Or just listen to others . . . there's never enough of that . . .
Try match.com (other pairing sites are available). Over half the married couples I know started out there. So much better than random chance.
How are you supposed to find someone to date if nobody knows you want to?
I've been single for over 15 years. Was feeling lonely, but didn't want the hassle, expense or all the uncertainty that goes along with dating. So I got a rescue dog and my life has never been better!
Being single is my dream. I've been married 36 years and have hated most of it.

Either way, you committed a felony.
What? That's nonsense. If the router signal is detected by your computer and you know the password and admin name, you can change any setting you want on the router. Routers settings are not tied to a computer, anyone with the pw and admin name can change it.

Agreed. Also, “Friends” was the worst sit-com I’ve ever briefly suffered through. 1.5 episodes (back to back, in syndication) of watching arguably the (scripted to be) dumbest people on TV do stupid things was more than my brain could handle. Turned it off, no regrets.
Really? Sorry you think it was the worst. I love the show. I guess that's why it was on for 10 years and still on reruns. A lot of the new generation just doesn't get it I guess.

That's rotten. You may consider telling HR if you have one. Or let the jerk know about his behaviour. You need to stop this

But if I really need/want something, then I "pray" to what I've abbreviated at WOT (whatever's/whoever's out there) because on the off-chance that there is a deity or supernatural power of some kind, I don't want to pick just one that I think is "right." Just saying that sounds really disgusting but yeah.
What's the “confession“ here? That's a notmal thing millions of people do every day.
I also don't talk to imaginary friends like gods. I talk to friends and family. That works and they do answer.
Unfortunately, I think anyone's sympathy towards me is fake.
Load More Replies...Do NOT tell your life's story because of someone's off hand question. Reserve your life story for your friends that know and love you. You owe NO ONE a full history or explanation of anything in your life. Too many times I ask, "How's it going" and people want to tell me their life story. It's a greeting, not an invitation to lay out your family history. Keep it shallow 'til you know someone . . .
Options to cheat almost never appear out of thin air, you have to work in order to create them. This means you didn't try to cheat.
I've listened to a lot of Esther Perel (because she's brilliant) and it really sounds like a lot of people cheat not because they ever meant to, but because they just happened to meet someone they clicked really well with and got swept away by how good it feels to have someone new expressing interest in you. I don't know how common it is percentage-wise because her sample size is only the people who regret the transgression and seek her out - but it definitely happens.

You're worried it might happen or hoping it does so you get out of the pain that is existence?
What's wrong with it? How else would you clean your nostrils of sticky gunk? If you do it in bathroom and wash your hands after I don't see any problem. If you do it anywhere other than bathroom and not wash your hands that's different story.
You're just scared - it's a big change. You'll be flooded with the hormone Oxytocin and will love that little baby (it doesn't happen in 100% of cases but most).
I'm not fond of most children, but I loved my own. May be the case here.
That’s okay. I love my 3 kids but I pretty much dislike every other kid I’ve met. Lol.
I think most people have way more patience with their own kids than with other people's brats. And on the bright side: they grow up.
Just today? Hell, I hated kids ever since I was one. Noisy, dirty, cruel little things.
Once that baby is born and you hold that little life in your arms.... you will turn into Mother Bear. It happens!
I suppose you have never heard of postpartum depression. Which about 20% of women have in varying degrees after giving birth. The idea that parents will automatically live their baby as soon as they hold it is a myth.

Depression means sadness without reason, otherwise it's just... sadness. Go see a professional and you'll find the deeper reason. No point in feeling guilt on top of the depression.
There may not be a deeper reason. It might be genetic.
Load More Replies...We as a society have hit an especially low point when you need to have been traumatized- and air it to the entire world- as an excuse for going through what at least one in ten people suffer from in the United States alone.
Probably didn't. Many scientists now think birds don't have a great sense of smell and do look after their babies despite being touched by humans.
Don't worry. The rumour that birds "smell" when humans touched their chicks and then neglect them is complete and certified bullcrap.
No, it is not certified bullcrap. The amount of handling is a factor in this, and it varies with specific subspecies.
Load More Replies...Actually, touching a baby bird to put it back in it's nest will NOT result in the mother abandoning it. Birds have a worse sense of smell than humans do, they wont smell us on their chick. The "rumor" is entirely inaccurate, although maybe the parent was trying to teach the chick to survive.
I'm curious as to why. If it was justified, then you shouldn't worry about it. If you were just being a jerk, you should lay awake every night.
I totally agree. Being a parent and being a worker are two different things. In this case though, i would go an extra mile to try ''correcting'' whatever reason i had to let her go.

One day it simply got too much remembering all the c**p I'd said and I made a private vow not to lie again. Worked out pretty well, I only lie to annoying work clients now. I occasionally find myself slipping back in social situations (exaggerating truths or changing the source of stories to suit me) and have to re-double my efforts, but just that act of committing to not lying was enough get me 99% on the right path.

Normal. Dogs are amazing companions, but puppies are absolutely horrible. The only good thing about them is that they are cute and for a serious person like myself, it's by no means a redeeming vice. I couldn't wait for my dog to grow up and start behaving as if I actually spent all those thousands of hours training him. Even though we are not entirely compatible, he's for the most part great. When I remember him as a puppy or an adolescent however, it makes me sick. People who think that the best period of a dog's life is when it's little, never ever had a dog!
next time get a cat, they basically born already knowing where to poop

I don't know about anchovies on pizza (never tried them) but pineapple is suprisingly good. (Now bring on the downvotes!)
It depends how you make it. In Croatia pizza is usually salty and a pineapple would totally not fit with the way we make pizza. In Korea, on the other hand, most shops make pizzas kind of sweet, so pineapple is not strange or bad at all.

Even if you didn't touch your private parts at all, even if you didn't have the decency to pull the water, you still touched that door to lock yourself in. So many people did. And if you're one of those who don't wash their hands, imagine how many more people like this are out there, using that same toilette as you. I dunno, I'd feel too dirty.

You can! Get in touch with a (no kill) shelter and find a new, loving home for him! You're not happy, he's not happy, go do something about it.
you can unadopt your dog, advertise for a new family. It won't matter that the dog is young or old. My family used to adopt dogs when I was a kid, we had young ones, old ones, cats, birds, rabbits, etc. You shouldn't feel guilty that the situation changed, whether you can no longer afford it or you just don't want it any more, equally valid reasons to rehome a pet. But please, PLEASE, don't leave it on the side of the road somewhere or something like that, take the time to rehome it right, you'll be guilt free and can be happy for it then, it'll be worth it in the end.

The water doesn't disappear, you aren't wasting it. But you are wasting your money and it has to go through treatment again.
