There's nothing wrong with trusting yourself. On the contrary, self-confidence is linked to almost every element involved in a happy and fulfilling life. It provides greater motivation and more resilience, improves relationships, and strengthens your sense of authenticity.
But take it too far and you become impossible to put up with, behaving as if you are more important than other people — arrogant — and might even end up featured on the subreddit 'Confidently Incorrect.'
As we've already shown you in our previous publications here, here, and here, this online community is dedicated to taking down people who proudly make false statements. It's the ultimate online purgatory for liars. Continue scrolling to check out its latest "visitors."

“You Should Speak English”
My God
"No one enjoys being wrong. It’s an unpleasant emotional experience for all of us," psychologist Guy Winch, Ph.D., said. "The question is how do we respond when it turns out we were wrong—when there wasn’t enough milk left for coffee, when we hit traffic and missed the flight, or when we find out the man who sat in jail for five years based on our identification was innocent all along?"
"Some of us admit we were wrong and say, 'Oops, you were right. We should have gotten more milk.' Some of us kind of imply we were wrong, but we don't do so explicitly or in a way that is satisfying to the other person: 'We had plenty of time to get to the airport on time if the traffic hadn’t been unusually bad. But fine, we’ll leave earlier next time.'"
"But some people refuse to admit they're wrong, even in the face of overwhelming evidence: 'They let him go because of DNA evidence and another dude's confession? Ridiculous! That’s the guy! I saw him!'"

OK as someone with a fair bit of precision measurement work using ultrasound I'm gonna toss my 2 cents into the ring. Imperial people, and metric people are both weirdly tribal about how many lines are on a given object. It does not matter, so long as everyone using that system can agree. Built in metric imperial or old Roman cubits as long as there is a standard to work from, it's just comparison anyway.... metric makes more sense in the world right in front of you measuring things that fit on a desk, imperial for measuring the world all around you, distances win in metric though but only because I can never remember how many feet are in a mile. At the end of the day you can build things correctly, and fly them to the right spot quite easily using any measurement system in the universe so long as you and the person next to you agree on how big that thing is.
I love how the UK isn't on there because we are just confused... we measure distance in miles, our gym weights in kilos, our body weight in pounds, our groceries in kilos, our height in feet, our recipes in grams, our water in litres but our beer in pints... the list goes on...
Oh it is on there and it says we're metric... tell that to the pubs and carpenters

Well, it might be less about forgetting and more that a lot of people were never told that it was Germany.
Load More Replies...In general, the scientific community in the USA uses the metric system - not that 17 bald eagles equals 41 hotdogs or whatever random BS the imperial system is
Actually, the US uses the US customary system not the imperial system.
Load More Replies...Help me out, please. What was the telescope lens or mirror that had to be replaced because the U S manufacture had uses inches rather centimeters? This was some years back.
Fun fact: The ideal human body temperature is not 98.6 degrees. The study was conducted in Europe, then translated and calculated into English and non-metric. Well, mistakes were made, and they just ran with it.
Both systems are useful for different things. Imperial makes more sense in everyday use. Metric makes more sense in science/medical studies. Like, a milliliter of fluid can make a huge difference in a lab experiment, but in baking? Not so much, a cup is fine. The people who made imperial made units of measure that are common sizes/distances/volumes. A pound, a foot, a cup, these are very relatable measurements. The people who made the metric system wanted a system where every measurement was based on the same thing. They made a meter, and anything that needed to be bigger was a kilometer and anything that needed to be smaller was a millimeter, etc.
Wasn’t there a mixup between NASA and one of their contractors? The contractor built the part using U.S. standard measures when the NASA plans were metric.
Why do people care so much about the US' choice for measurement? Such an odd thing to spend time thinking about.
I’m a nurse and we use the metric system to calculate your medication.
The UK going quiet when the rest of the world gives the US flack knowing damn well we use a combination of the two systems!
Following your logic it was NASA who was on the moon, not the US. I think you can see the flaw?

This 'proof' is not correct. While the uranium decay chain does end in lead, not all lead originates that way. Some quantity of all the stable lead isotopes was created directly in supernovae, and lead-204 is created exclusively that way. (Obviously, the Earth is more than 4000 years old. But the proof is not that simple).
Winch thinks that when a person pushes back against the facts, when they simply cannot admit that they were wrong in any circumstance, everything boils down to their ego. Their sense of self.
"Some people have such a fragile ego, such brittle self-esteem, such a weak 'psychological constitution,' that admitting they made a mistake or that they were wrong is fundamentally too threatening for their egos to tolerate," the psychologist said.

These people can't admit they're wrong, so their defense mechanisms do something remarkable to avoid it. They literally distort their perception of reality to make it (reality) less threatening.
"Their defense mechanisms protect their fragile ego by changing the very facts in their mind, so they are no longer wrong or culpable," Winch said.
"As a result, they come up with statements, such as, 'I checked in the morning, and there was enough milk, so someone must have finished it.'"

Usually, when it's pointed out that they don't see things as they are, these people double down. "In our ... example, they will insist that their erroneous identification of the robber was correct despite DNA evidence and a confession from a different person."
"When confronted, they will continue to insist or pivot to attacking anyone who tries to argue otherwise and to disparage the sources of the contradictory information."

People who repeatedly resort to this kind of behavior are, by definition, psychologically fragile. And they don't like it.
"[Such an] assessment is often difficult for people to accept, because to the outside world, they look as if they're confidently standing their ground and not backing down, things we associate with strength. But psychological rigidity is not a sign of strength, it is an indication of weakness," Winch highlighted.

"These people are not choosing to stand their ground; they’re compelled to do so in order to protect their fragile egos. Admitting we are wrong is unpleasant, it is bruising for any ego. It takes a certain amount of emotional strength and courage to deal with that reality and own up to our mistakes," Winch said.
Most of us feel uncomfortable when we're reminded of our imperfection, but we get over it. We take the L. And it's definitely something worth patting ourselves on the back for.

To be fair, the sentence itself is ambiguous. It could be understood as rejection, as in the son is no longer accepted as a part of his family, or as an acceptance, as in the son is now his daughter but still his family nevertheless. I don't fault people for thinking it is a rejection. It can be read as one. I suspect this might be a dad jok gone wrong, to be honest.

The best pizza in the world is the one you like best. My wife and I cannot agree on pizza. I like soft thick and cheezy not Detroit but not new york, particularly fond of sour dough at the moment. She likes thin and crispy and topped no more than an Italian pizza. You know who is right? No one because food preference doesn't work that way.

The scariest part of all of these is not that the folks writing them are confident or wrong. The scariest part is they are actively trying to seize power in the US and push this stupidity on everyone. They want to teach others that their fools view of the world is correct.
Upside of this post: I now feel like a complete f*****g genius!! So many people in the world are so much dumber than me I must be pretty smart, right? Downside: No, humanity is just f****d
This post left me with ambivalent feelings. On one side, I'm angry and incredulous that people like this really exist and spread so much ignorance and stupidity...On the other side I feel a little bit like the nowadays Einstein, as I could have said something stupid in my life (who didn't?), but never so stupid
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I fear for the future of this country. Even the world, it's just I'm mostly familiar with this country. The US. Not the Us.

Well thankfully what I cited wasn't altered. Phew, otherwise I wouldn't sounded really stupid.
