Have you ever found yourself arguing with someone you perhaps even don’t know that well about a topic that some people might find not that interesting or important and you felt right about it to a point where you would be ready to do whatever it takes to prove your point? Well, it’s probably safe to say that you’re not the only one who has found themselves in such a situation. For this reason, Reddit user @u/Youhavemystapler11 was curious enough to ask others online “What’s a hill you’re willing to die on every time?”. The question that received 32k upvotes encouraged others online to share matters that they strongly believe in and would not let anyone change their minds.
A lot of these answers included topics on certain people’s behaviors, social constructs, and everyday encounters that might sometimes seem to be annoying, such as people who won’t use a turn signal when they’re driving. Health insurance should cover the whole body. The fact that vision and dental are separate things is a pure cash grab.
Universal healthcare doesn't mean universally of all health related matters. Canadians often have to pay through private or work insurance, or out of pocket, for dental and optometry. Yet going to the clinic and hospital is mostly covered under provincial public health.

Some dental and vision issues can be covered under medical health insurance in the US at least. I think this would be one of them. It’s the same if you get something dangerous in your eye like metal or glass. Your medical health insurance will cover that.

I did the math once and the yearly cost for dental insurance was more than what the dentist charged if you paid yourself for the 2 regular check-ups a year. TBH sine I have been with out health insurance fro 5 years I have found most things cost me less a year than what I would be paying for health insurance. Health insurance in the US is strictly to cover emergencies other than that you are just making the corporations richer.
Insurance in general is the biggest scam ever perpetrated on society.
You may think this….until you reallllly need it. Insurance is simply transferring a risk you may or may not ever have in your entire life to someone else, to give you peace of mind. Once you payoff your car or home- coverage to that tangible property you own is optional. If you can bear the risk and sleep at night that a tornado might blow your house down tomorrow, or burn to the ground….that is your choice. Most reasonable people weigh this and decide it’s more sound to keep insurance coverage. Same thing with your health insurance. You can gamble you will never need it. It’s not mandatory in the privatized system, but most people predict they will statistically need it in their 80 yr life expectancy, so they buy it.

Wouldn’t matter. So many dentists in my area don’t even contract with insurance companies because they don’t want to have to accept insurance rates, which they claim are too low. And they also don’t want to do the pre-auth and other requirements. I never trust a dentist in a beautiful, brand new office that is out-of-network.
Yeah the old unicorn of universal healthcare that people from certain countries seem to like to brag about to their American counterparts is pretty misleading. Where is this universal healthcare? It DID exist once. Granted no one could come close to the s**t show of the American health system but come on?! We will be caught up with them in the not so distant future.

I would love to know the history behind that came about. Just when and why did vision and dental become their own separate thing? What was the justification?
And hearing! Our insurance only covers hearing aids under the age of 18 years, you know, when you're least likely to need one, not when you're age (or in my case, Meniere's Disorder which has no treatment or cure) may necessitate it. >:( And vision is only worth the cost if both my husband and I BOTH get an eye exam AND full sets (frames, lenses, both regular and sunglasses) every.single.year.
It's separate in Australia too, no dental or vision under Medicare, unless you are on a pension.
And feet! Did you know that some insurance companies don't cover feet??
Vision , dental, hearing aids, meds, everything should be covered by major medical insurance. And insurance should work for the consumer not the other way around!!!
I’m American here opining. A privatized healthcare insurance system like we have now simply cannot survive if you want that private insurance co to pay for ‘everything’. All of these minor medical costs being ‘covered’ is why the costs of both the medical care itself and the insurance keeps increasing so substantially. It’s simple math….they have to collect more premium than they pay out in claims - Not even to be profitable but to stay in business- right? Compare this to Tax based healthcare systems, like we all envy Europeans countries have. 100% funded by taxes collected from their people basically has to only be enough to also pay for everyones use. The difference is there is no incentive for the tax based system to try and earn a profit. They just need to break even everyday.every year. If they collect more taxes than needed, that balance goes right back into the system for the taxpayers. No private companies trying to profit, get stock price up, keep board members happy….. all medical providers get paid the same for service. They are paid fairly, so they can go back to being healthcare providers and not businesses as well…..I feel strongly we need 100% Medicare for All. None of these options for insurance companies to upsell , get you ‘better’ coverage….nope….it all comes from 1 revenue source and it all goes out by 1 payor source. Now what has GOT to happen globally, is all countries, US more than anyone, must require everyone pay their fair share. Corporations must contribute to our tax base and pay their fair share of income tax…

There is a reason the Founding Fathers explicitly kept church and state separated. They knew the history of bloody wars that were fought on religious grounds, so did not want their new country to have a “state religion”, but to make religion a personal choice—-and that choice a Constitutional right. They knew religious bias has NO place in government, as that leads to persecution, so they purposely did not set up the US to be a place that makes such government sanctioned persecution a part of life here.
Children are legally required to be in school, and often have to stay in the building during lunch. We should feed them healthy, nutritious food for free. Every single child.
And be made to go to school while sick, while parents are threatened jail time and removal of their kids if the parents keep them home a day or few longer until they're better.
No one should need to go into debt for their health
Or their education. Or be hugely overcharged for rent on a small apartment, or the mortgage for a starter home.
Children beauty pageants are creepy as f**k and parents who subject their children to such scrutiny and judgement are crazy, and don’t deserve children.
People who get extremely disappointed when they discover the gender of their unborn child aren't emotionally mature enough to raise a child.
And people who comment on (mostly) men's "inability" to produce a male offspring (saying things like "oh, too weak to make a boy, eh", surprisingly and disgustingly common thing in Russia) should be surgically prevented from procreating.

Term limits for every branch of government in the U.S.
Retirement age sounds reasonable. Government needs a huge infusion of new blood, new ideas, new viewpoints. Politicians are making decisions now that will affect generations to come, and I would like at least some representatives from those generations to have a voice. Also, there should be a limit to how many consecutive elections you can be on the ballot for. It’s perfectly fine for politics to be your career—-for a while—-but not one you only leave by dying of extreme old age.
Public libraries are undervalued by many.
My pet peeve. Small town libraries can absolutely become the life blood of an area when they provide computers and printers and classes especially for stuff like life skills like understanding taxes and mortgage, as well as literacy for children. I used to be on the board for our village library and I've seen children who've never held a book in their hand become enchanted at books. Video and movies are nice and all, but books open entire universes in your mind.

The Manitoba government thinks minimum wage is only for "young adults just starting out in the workforce. It's not supposed to be a career goal. We're not raising the minimum wage to match inflation". These people are so out of touch about what's out there for jobs and how much is needed to live. $10 for a bag of oranges, now, at the supposed cheap grocery stores. You would have to work about 45 min to afford a bag of oranges.
