They say that you always stay a child for your parent. And that’s 100% true.

But some moms, dads, aunts, uncles and grandmas and -pas take their love to a whole new level by showering their little children with endless love and care. Except that often they’re not so little, but rather grown-up adults paying their bills, building their careers, and sometimes, having their own families.

Below we wrapped up some of the funniest and most wholesome examples of parents and caregivers treating their adult kids like children. Psst! More funny pictures of parents nurturing their adult kids can be found in our previous feature.

“Parenting is a lifelong commitment and it is hard for us as parents to let go and grow with our children as they age,” Anisa Lewis, a positive parenting and life coach, told Bored Panda in an interview via email. Scroll down to see what she said about why some parents treat their grown-up kids as if they were kids.

This does not belong on this list. This wonderful mother was not treating their offspring as a child. This is so thoughtful!

Came Home And Found This. I Love My Mom

Came Home And Found This. I Love My Mom

I'm an adult, I live with my parents because I could not afford to move out until now (I got my degree 6 years ago, then started a PhD, and now I'm completing a specialization course in oral surgery). I got a wonderful girlfriend and I deeply love my parents, but due to being a bit too quiet and introvert at home, I do not tell them how much I appreciate and admire their hard work to raise me as much as I should. Today I came back from the hospital where I work and found this little gem waiting for me in my room. Yesterday was my birthday and this is a gift I won't forget, maybe it's not much for you, but it's everything to me knowing that my mom is behind it with all of her heart.

there's nothing wrong with living with your parents or family past whatever socially constructed age society deems 'normal'...as long as everyone has a healthy respect for boundaries & if it's to everyone's financial benefit, honestly I hope my children do this. Life is short, I want to spend as much time with my family as I can :)

This. Stop thinking that living with parents means being a loser or immature because there are multiple scenarios in which it can happen that are absolutely fine.

I asked for a dog my whole life. My parents finally got one after I grew up and moved to the other side of the world. It made logical sense for them to wait that long, but the irony was not lost on me. That was 12 years ago. Sadly, the dog passed away (peacefully) at the beginning of this month.

Anisa Lewis explained that when children grow up and leave home, it does leave a hole in a parent's world. “They have for the past x number of years (depending on the child’s age) put that child at the center of their world and it can be a hard adjustment for parents.”

She also argues that it may also be a joyous time or one of gratitude for raising a child who is able now to stand on their own two feet. “At the end of the day, children of whatever age will always be their parents ‘baby,’ letting go for some parents might just be harder for some than others.”

In some cases, “it could also be that the grown child still needs a parent figure or due to family dynamics they resort back to childlike behaviors or patterns. Families are so interesting!” Anisa explained.

Sometimes, adult children may feel overwhelmed with all the attention they get from their parents. Anisa confirmed that it indeed can be overwhelming to still be parented when you yourself are an adult.

“My advice is to open up and communicate, don’t bottle things up. Use ‘I feel’ statements to speak to your parent(s), come from a place of love and gratitude for all that they have done and perhaps are still doing but be open and honest with where you are at and what you want,” she said.

“Perhaps you can problem solve together to work out a solution that will work for everyone, it could be a way to build the family bond and make it even stronger by finding a united way forward,” the parenting coach concluded.

In some rarer cases, treating an adult like a child can have serious consequences. In psychology, it’s known as infantilization, which creates a cycle of dependence in which the adult constantly needs to be told what to do and how to do it.

Southern Mississippi researchers believe that it’s the excessive control involved in overparenting that is at the heart of the difficulties that children of narcissistic parents can experience. According to this article from Psychology Today, Winner and Nicholson define “parental psychological control” (PPC) as emotional intrusion, not just the attempts to limit the child from becoming a grown-up.

Moreover, a growing body of research suggests that the potential for parents to go too far in their desire to remain prominent and involved within their children’s lives appears to be linked to the development of narcissistic traits.

Susan Krauss Whitbourne, Ph.D., ABPP, a professor of psychological and brain sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, argues that “we do not know what their parents were actually like, but the existence of this relationship suggests how narcissism can be passed on from generation to generation.”

“Parents who dig around in the emotional lives of their children will produce children who may, in turn, feel that this is the best way to raise a child. The Winner and Nicholson study sheds light on one step in the process: the recollection by children of how their parents treat them.”

Her spring quarter classes started and she's extremely stressed due to a lot of factors both class related and personal (surgery to remove a lump the day after Easter). I always send her goodies by mail, but this year (since she'll be here recovering) I bought one of those pill bottles from amazon that have "pill" capsules that contain a note that you write, so that they can open little affirmations or messages when needed. Spent about 9 hours writing them out and scrolling them back into the capsules and back into the bottle that says "100% love" on it. I'm hoping these love messages will remind her throughout her recovery and her spring quarter of how much I love her and believe in her.

My Mom Got Me Super Mario Sheets For Christmas. I'm 22 And Have Been Living In My Own Apartment For 4 Years

I looked confused and disappointed. She said "What? It's not like anyone else is going to see your sheets" and now I don't know if that was ignorance, an insult, or innocence.

If I was single and went on a few dates with someone I clicked with, if he took me back to his place and had these sheets, he would get extra points for that. We should never try to erase our childhood innocence completely, that's why everyone is always so miserable or suffering with mental health because they have been conditioned to grow up, work, eat, sleep, repeat. Go tree climbing, make sandcastles, eat junk food you always wanted as a kid but the parents had restrictions on, eat the WHOLE cake, buy some roller skates and make a fool of yourself when you fall on your a*s. And have the bedding that will make someone smile as it reminds them of a time when we did not have to worrying about being an adult

All for not being too serious, but some of us probably shouldn't be climbing trees and eating the whole cake even if we want to. Some of us is me by the way. I would totally love some mario sheets and some space sheets are already in our rotation though, and we do "rock climbing" but at the gym.

You have the sort of parents that I am to my kids, the oldest is 20 and still gets a stocking and a main gift, I don't ever want to stop because it keeps the magic alive, for one day it's smiles, laughter, eating way to much and making people feel special as you got them that gift they have wanted for ages.

Legos has two target demos. Group 1 are kids who get the 200 block sets that are meant to make anything. Group 2 are adults who get 2000 piece sets meant to make a piece of nostalgia. Both are very proud of their creations.

We will never be too old for this ( we colour with onion skins and old bedsheets and the outcome is a surprise with every egg different)

I may do that again this year. https://pin.it/5JgXB1p This says to get extra fabric but you can use the inside of the tie to wrap around it. That's what I did. Turns out super cool.

I don't feel they are that expensive, and they last forever. I have a pair I got almost 2 years ago, they were customized pride edition and I paid $75 for them and I still wear them almost daily. They are so comfortable, and still in good condition. I also still have multiple pairs I have kept And still wear through the years since high school (24 years) along with my Docs. I can see the price being more of an issue with kids as they grow out of their shoes and need new ones every 6 months. Also, bummer you couldn't wear shoes you wanted, and what are smart shoes?

I don't think it comes from French. "my little monkey" would be "mon petit singe" in French. Chichi could be an abbreviation of chimpanzee but those dolls were called "Kiki" in France so I don't know where the "monchichi" comes from...

Instead of deodorant, try rubbing your armpits with lemon or orange peel (zest side outwards of course) - much more effective lasts about as long and can be disposed of into your nearest hedgerow !! Try it, you'll be amazed.

My cousin's door and a whole wall plus half of another one is is similarly covered in all the Garbage Pail Kids stickers we stuck up back in the 80's. My aunt redecorated his room several times and had even painted and wallpapered around them. It's fun when I get to visit her every couple of years or so and go in to look them over. A lot of good memories right there. Thanks, Aunt Katy!😘

We have a small den (that's actually a fourth bedroom on the first floor) and my twin daughters did this to the back of the door. No one really sees the back of the door so I let them do it. They're 21 years old now.

Back in the '60's us kids collected stickers from gas stations. All gas, oil and car related. My bedroom door was covered with them.

Just wait….next Christmas they’re giving you adhesive remover, scrapers, sand paper and supplies to refinish that door after you strip half of it getting those stickers off😁

Well, they did spend a lot of money on all of those stickers, a walk down memory lane every time they pass by the door. I bet they smile too. . .!

If you live in Canada you address it to Santa Clause at the North Pole with the postal code H0H 0H0, add your return address on the back, and drop it in any mailbox for free. Canada Post has a direct line to the big man for any kids reading this, and a response will be returned in whichever language the letter was sent in. I would imagine the postal services in most countries employ a similar service.
