It’s a fact of life just like the sun rises in the East and sets in the West: older people will always find something to criticize about the younger generations. The former grumble, the latter roll their eyes, but soon enough, those youngsters are looking at each new generation and wondering what the everlovin’ frick is going on, why they’re behaving so oddly, and why their music sounds like pure noise.
A thread created by u/VisibleConfusion12 went viral on r/AskReddit after it sparked a very interesting discussion in the online community. The OP wanted to know what things young people love that older internet users plain don’t understand, and we’ve collected some of the most interesting insights to share with you. Scroll down to read what they had to say and upvote the posts you agree with.
We got in touch with the author of the thread, redditor u/VisibleConfusion12, who was kind enough to share their thoughts on the topic. Read on for Bored Panda's interview with them.

Declaring everything is a result of a mental illness. Sometimes people are just a******s.
I know a couple whose son has ADHD, and they use this as an excuse for everything. They never bothered teaching him the difference between right and wrong. He has no manners, is a bully and is constantly violent towards others, and his parents blame other children and criticise them for never wanting to play with him or invite him to parties. They have raised an a$$hole and blame it on his condition, when it is a simple case of bad parenting.
They're doing that kid a massive disservice. He will end up paying dearly for it later in life.
Load More Replies...Mental illness is serious. But people declaring they have a mental illness so they don't have to deal with the difficult stuff in life diminishes the seriousness of the conditions of the people with real mental illness. A lot of "conditions" that people like to pretend they have is simply absence of life skills. Often it's not "introversion", they just haven't learned the life skill of talking to strangers. Sometimes it's not depression, sometimes you just have to get out of bed and go to work. (Depression is a serious mental illness, if you honestly can't get out of bed to go to work, then seek treatment, it's really dangerous to allow it to go untreated, treatment saved my life.) If it's mental illness talk to someone about it. Don't self diagnose because you can't be bothered to do stuff.
Even if you were formally diagnosed it shouldn't be used as a blanket excuse. I had a friend who was bipolar (formally diagnosed, on medication) who just wouldn't take responsibility for anything. Never apologized for anything s****y she did. Everything was "oh it's because I'm bipolar". Yes being bipolar makes it challenging to manage your behavior at times, but that doesn't excuse you from the responsibility of apologizing when you hurt someone.
Load More Replies...I remember when I was residing in a mental health care facility, they were telling my Mam & Dad their findings and my Mammy, with all the love and concern equal to that of all the mothers in the world combined, asked the doc 'Are you sure he's not just an arsehole?'
I had ADHD as a child with some learning disabilities. My father was an abusive monster/drunk/deep mental issues, etc. He nearly killed my Mom numerous times, caused me lifelong back issues from the beatings, blah, blah. My point, I had a choice to become a monster like him or to rise above it all. I admit I am not in any way near perfect, but I made choices to NOT be a d^ck. I chose therapy and kindness. Simple as that.
My parents still say that I had an attitude issue as a teenager and I was 'antisocial' and 'self-centered' for locking myself in a room and crying for hours every day. They still can't seem to connect it to our family history of depression and bipolar on both sides, even knowing about the therapy, diagnoses and medication I eventually got. At least parents and teenagers these days have the tools to talk about mental illness. I suffered a lot because of the stigma.
For me it hasn't really been about the stigma. It's just the fact that a ton of people treat you differently. It's hard to explain. But just how they treat you like you're annoying or something.
Load More Replies...As a person with autism/adhd, schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder, absolutely none of this is an excuse for being an a*****e, I just admit that sometimes, I am an a*****e. :')
though the amount of younger people in their teens etc "diagnosing" themselves or pretending to have a mental illness is disturbing as hell. It isn't your edgy fashion accessory, random tiktoker. e_e
Load More Replies...This 1 million times this. I hate people saying they have PTSD about everything. I have PTSD about Target because the cashier was mean to me etc. As someone who was actually diagnosed with PTSD 25 years ago & thought that can't be true only soldiers have it. It is no joke & affects your life so stop it!
I've not long been officially diagnosed with PTSD myself after a whole year of fighting to be taken seriously.
Load More Replies...Nowadays it seems cool to have some kind of mental illness, maybe because they don't have a personality and need something else to take its place
Some people are just a******s, some people are severely affected by mental illness. The best course of action is to be compassionate. You never truly know what someone else is going through.
A lot of people also use this as an excuse to justify s****y behavior. Its all about eliciting sympathy and having everyone feel bad for you due to floor-level self-esteem. It's like a sickness all in itself.
Personally, we feel like there will always be friction between members of different generations because their values and environments differ. Probably the most obvious case we see these days is between Baby Boomers and, well, pretty much everyone else. Boomers tend to think that kids these days don’t work hard enough and should learn to save instead of eating avocado toast and buying lattes at Starbucks.
Meanwhile, Millennials and Zoomers believe that Boomers had it very easy when it came to buying up cheap property and finding well-paying jobs that were enough to take care of the entire family and provide a high quality of life. However, some of the things that unite different generations include the love of nostalgia (albeit for very different things) and the increasing awareness of how important it is to take care of our bodies as we age.
The unending need to share everything on social media including their meals, their children, their partners everything.
I think this is about confirmation. Social media allows you to get validation quickly and easily.
I totally agree. The problem is the scale between authentic & superficial validation. We all have varying needs for validation. When it’s inauthentic or or superficial we still crave it. It seems most overshare on social media is just a constant chase without ever feeling successfully validated. But maybe for some that’s enough.
Load More Replies...As a rather young person, I don't understand this either. I like keeping my life private, and I don't like comparing myself with everyone on photos and s**t
I don't get this at all. I don't care what you had for breakfast. Or that your kid pooped on their own for the first time. Or that you just got on the bus.
I will never understand the need to put everything on social media and I feel so sorry for little kids who are plastered on their parents social media...where is their right to privacy
My SIL had her 9 year old daughter hold a "I Love Donald Trump" sign and posted it. Burrrrr!
Load More Replies...Likes and nice comments on social media = validation = happy hormones (dopamine) get released into your brain = perpetuating whatever it was that got you that dopamine rush. The same reason people gamble, the dopamine rush they get from winning. Social media companies are using the same tactics that gambling bases its premise on to keep you addicted to their product.

Talking loudly with your phone on speaker while in public. Older people do it, too.
WTF is *that* all about?
I don't know about other places, but around here it seems to be Millennials that do it.
I usually see older people (50's-60's) doing this and it ticks me off! It ticks me off when anyone does it, but why do you have it on speaker? Put it up to your ear you'll hear better and hopefully not have to yell to be heard yourself!
Load More Replies...Why do people think this is ok!!! I don’t want to hear your conversation while I am on a bus, at a restaurant or just walking past you. I think we all need to join in on these conversations and respond as if it is a group call. If the are going to include me without my permission, then they are going to get my input without theirs. *rant over*
And holding the darn phone like in the picture - it looks so stupid walking around with a phone projecting from your lips!
Just this week, I saw a guy holding the phone horizontally to his ear. It looked so ridiculous!
Load More Replies...Who evens talks on the phone? Shudder. Phone calls are invasive for me, so I rarely call anyone.
I sometimes comment on the conversation going on. Some people start talking with me and the person on the phone and some just give me the d*ath stare.
If I feel like having a little fun, I jump into the conversation too. Never got the d*ath stare yet but probably because I'm 68 and live in the South.
Load More Replies...I don't do it in public but I always use speakerphone at home. I don't like holding modern phones up to my ear. It's uncomfortable, my ear gets sweaty, and yes... MRI scans have shown that the part of the head you press your phone up to gets lit up like a Christmas tree. We don't know yet if that causes cancer or if it's harmless but why chance it?
You mean the section of the brain near the ear. So the bit that's doing audio processing. The bit that lights up even if you're just listening to speakers twenty feet away...
Load More Replies...Again, no one wants to listen to your conversations! Turn off the damn speaker function and lower your voice! "Indoor voices, children, indoor voices!"
Nah, this unfortunate trend applies to ALL age groups and I *hate* it
According to redditor u/VisibleConfusion12, they personally find TikTok, the video-sharing platform, to be one of the oddest things that the younger generations enjoy.
"I would have to say TikTok as a whole," they told Bored Panda what they find strange. "There is a TON of stuff that is considered bad," they said, referring to videos full of hate speech, as well as dangerous trends and challenges that nobody should do.
"I would also add newer fashion which is pretty strange. But compared to older fashion, it might beat it by a mile," they said. Though the OP admits that both "older fashion and newer fashion" confuse them either way.
Social media celebrities.
Stop making stupid people famous....stop following them or paying attention
The term "celebrity" is now so diluted. At one time it was someone famous for a talent, whether it was in the arts or business etc. Now it's anyone who's pretty, generally has the intellect comparable to a goldfish but looks good in designer clothes. There's too much consumer-led fakery these days.
I enjoy a few interesting people that are super funny ... there's a gal with a homicidal emu that has a 'farm.' Aussie grandmas that rescue wombats and fruit bats. I love seeing people helping animals.
They're not celebrities; they're nobodies with a five year shelf life.
Long a*s fake nails. How do you even go to the bathroom with those things without hurting yourself? They’re not even attractive. I don’t get it.
Edit: To be clear, I’m talking LONG here, like inches long. I have longish natural nails and I love getting them done, but I’ve seen people with nails that are over 2 inches long and I don’t understand how you can be productive with nails like that. I’m not mad about it, I just honestly don’t get the hype.
Plus it's not hygienic. You'd be surprised the bacteria that is found under one's nails
Yes, and no matter how well you think you washed your hands, your nails did not get clean enough. Especially if you just used the bathroom
Load More Replies...I think it's a status symbol of looking like you are a person who doesn't have to work?
It shows everyone that you aspire to be a "decorative" person, and have everything done for you. Even if you never gain that station in life.
Load More Replies...If they extend out away from the finger, it should be easy to clean them. My natural nails just grew all of a sudden (body chemistry I guess) and I find it a bit of a problem when I scratch myself on the face or try to chop food. Then I know it is time for a trim.
Load More Replies...Coworker had natural nails were 3x longer than in this picture. Nails *curled at least once, maybe twice. Don't know how she functioned in an office, drove her car, or got dressed.
i cut my nails short regularly because it's impossible to play piano or violin with long nails
I play violin but I love long nails and I’m always getting told to cut my nails in my lessons
Load More Replies...They're gross to me, but to each her own. Some people think it's a status thing. Not only are nails like that expensive to keep, but it says that they are a "kept" woman who has a man pay everything for them, including pampering. Their thinking is that nails like that are so impractical that they have absolutely everything done for them in life by other people (or they want strangers to think that way of them).
The videos where they say it's a "life hack" when it's just common sense.
Aka "try out this crazy life hack for perfectly cut bagles, EVERYTIME!"
Proceeds to use a bagel cutter.
Like, seriously??? You need someone to tell you that?
Or a life hack about how you can repurpose a barrel into a chair for NO MONEY! Take a perfectly good new barrel, use tools that every professional handiman has lying around (like a fully stocked workplace with every machine possible) and make an ugly chair with sharp edges, which you'll cover up with tonnes of hot glue....
5 min. crafts! "Here are 5 more horribly ugly and inconvenient uses for cement!"

Load More Replies...It's the life hack of making your own take away food and saving money. Yes that's called cooking.
I used to think this way, too. Then I watched a video on TikTok of a man showing me how to coil a hose when done using. And it hit me. Many many people did not have someone showing them these "hacks" when they were growing up.
Honestly that everything is a "hack" now. Yes, language changes but this one is super annoying.
I had surgery on my wrist that made my dominant hand useless, I was out of work for 4 months. The day after surgery, I wanted a bagel. I couldn't even grasp my bread knife, and there was no way I was going to attempt to cut it with my right hand, I couldn't even hold the bagel with my left. I had to break down and buy a bagel cutter. It didn't cut the same as using a knife, but it worked. As soon as I was able to use my hand again, and hold a knife safely, I have no use for the cutter. I really don't think this was made for laziness, but as a device to make life easier and safer for people who may not be able to use a knife.
Load More Replies...The thing I hate about these kind of criticisms is that not everyone knows, and some do need to be told and shown how to do certain things. Duh...young people starting out on their own, for example.
The post is specifically about using a bit of equipment that is purpose-built for the job, and calling it a "life hack". (And probably because they're being paid to advertise said piece of equipment.) However, your point is also valid - some kids do not get taught certain skills before leaving home, and they need to learn somehow. I absolutely agree with that. I have dabbled in online "how to"s myself, and I've taught teenage boys let loose at university to cook (because I was the mum of the dorm, older than the senior resident (RA)). A lot of the failings are that skills are not being taught by parents, but a bagel slicer? A "life hack" it is not.

We were interested to find out what inspired redditor u/VisibleConfusion12 to ask such an interesting question in the first place. They were happy to tell us all about it.
"I came up with the idea with the help of my nephew! He was scrolling TikTok and came across a 'cringey' video," the OP told Bored Panda that their 14-year-old nephew then showed them the video clip which got them thinking about the (sometimes vast) differences between generations.
"The video in question was a girl complaining, saying she will be upset if you misgender her. My nephew then told me that his generation was probably the most questionable, which gave me the idea which I later posted later on Reddit," they shared what led them to spark the discussion on r/AskReddit.
In the OP's view, it's difficult to find a definitive answer as to why each generation criticizes those that come after it. In their opinion, it all comes down to what the members of each new generation do and how this clashes with what older generations enjoy.
Film random strangers without consent to make fun of them online all for internet 'clout'.
Isn’t it illegal in like Korea and other places in Asia (I don’t know much about other countries)
Load More Replies...Had this in the motorway services. I have severe anxiety and dissociative motor disorders, for me, think severe Tourette’s like symptoms(wave, point, shout, repeat, make noises, twisted into painful positions and I have a stuttered gait) that are exacerbated by how anxious I am, so small noises, words and movement even when calm. I was waiting for my wife to come out of the ladies when four late teen/early twenties came in. Most youngsters are really nice and actually more sympathetic than older people but these came over telling me that they wanted to film themselves with me, very loud, very insistent, phones up ready. My waving and shouting increased significantly which they thought was very funny. My wife came out, shouted at them and we had to leave with them still laughing behind us.
This is so disgusting and I am so sorry you were treated like this. May this group of rats step on Lego barefoot daily for 3 weeks.
Load More Replies...I once watched a video where a dude went to two women in a blue porsche and pestered them with questions about what they do for a living and how much the car was and such. They got pissed at him calling him a creep and to stop filming. And in the comments the people defended the guy filming and started calling the woman in the porsche all sorts of names. Like, What the heck? Whats wrong with people?
I hate this. Men will take upskirt photos and other perverted videos that were taken without consent, and then try to defend themselves by saying "It's in a public setting, I can film what I want!" No, dumbass, her panties are not public property. And if you think nothing is wrong with it, why not go up and ask for some wank pics. Because y'all know it's wrong.
And refusing to help in dire situations, but instead, continue recording. Humans really are animals these days?!
I can't believe this is legal but it is. This is a fine example of freedom of expression and speech gone too far!
Its generally perfectly legal to film people and property excepting when its specifically not allowed. Eg kids change rooms upskirt and other lewd purposes. Most people think its illegal. Being in public means there is public domain.
Those large, spider-looking, over-the-top fake eyelashes.
Oh, yes, this is a good one. They look like giant doll eyes, the kind that blink whey you move them. I don't know what I dislike more, those awful fake eyelashes or those giant stenciled on eyebrows people have now. eyebrows3-...a83931.jpg
Gotta go with the electrical tape eyebrows. The natural fluffy ones are very nice, but the painted, waxed up ones....nope.

Yeah I don't get it. Do their friends and family like the look? Are they all delusional? Most look like caterpillars.
Facetiming people instead of calling them. Unless you have to show me something, I prefer not to show my face on screen
My oldest granddaughter (17) only ever facetimes me, at first I couldn't understand why, and then realized that is the way she talks to her friends so it's the way that she does it. I actually don't mind.
If you have a granddaughter at 17 that calls you, you've done something really right. Good on you!
Load More Replies...I have to disagree with this. Humans have layers of communication: words, tone of voice, facial expression, gestures, other body language, etc. This is why misunderstandings are more common in audio-only communication such as phone calls and transceivers compared to face-to-face, and miscommunication is even more common in text, where the lack of facial expression and tone of voice means and absence of emotional context for the words.
Although doing it for every single call may be a bit much. I videocall family or coworkers (through the work-app), but am not going to videocall the garage or the dentist.
Load More Replies...FaceTiming allows for a deeper connection as you can see the emotion/emphasis on someones face.
I FaceTime a fair bit (especially to my parents who don't always check their phones for text) as I'm deaf so can lipread/ sign that way, but I'll mainly text to those who I know will check their phones regularly
To put it simply, people tend to feel nostalgic for those times in our lives when they were happiest and most carefree. We might associate that period of time with certain activities, people, shows, or even products and we come back to them when we’re feeling down and need a boost. That’s why you might have a sudden urge to plug in an old console or find a very old movie to watch when you’re blue.
And though nostalgia can help us power through tough times in our lives, it has some destructive potential as well. For example, if we constantly daydream about how things used to be (and how awful everything is now), we might miss genuinely good opportunities in the present. It’s fine to reminisce about the past, so long as your present and future don’t suffer for it.
Yes, the entertainment industry may have had far better standards back when you were a young adult! But it doesn’t mean that absolutely every film, song, and game that’s crafted these days is an abomination. As in every area of life, there will be a minority of truly high-quality products, surrounded by a vast majority of junk. It’s a widespread phenomenon known as Sturgeon’s law.
All these s****y prank videos on people in public.
The public tik tok dancing.
I can't handle the second hand embarrassment when someone is dancing in aisle 5.
In the UK there is some kid called Mizzy filming himself breaking into people's homes. How no-one has actually punched the little f****r is astounding. He was arrested
Please don't encourage him by watching his video's...I am curious but I won't give him my precious time! (and view)
Load More Replies...I like FUNNY pranks. I don't like cruelty, gaslighting and bullying called "pranks" in order to hide what they are. But dancing? I think the world needs more dancing.

Load More Replies...I'm glad I've never seen it happen. I'm too much of a Gen X extrovert to not to start acting like a d**k in the background and ruin your video.
I swear if I came across that I wouldn't be able to hold my tongue. Saw a vid of some narcissistic low rent Ariana Grande wannabe tiktoker seizure dancing in a big box store while shoppers tried to get around her. I was equal parts embarrassed for her and enraged.
I don't mind the dancing so long as they aren't in anyone's way or like in the middle of a busy street or something. It's dancing, have fun. The pranks tick me off when they are just plain mean and not funny. There are some funny pranks but the majority are so mean or even physically painful and I don't like that at all.
Making tik tok dances are fun, but not if you're gonna be an a*s and disturb people
Yeah, some kids in my middle school film themselves dancing and filming their phones in the hallway. Like hello? I am trying to go to my classroom, and you are blocking my way while dancing a dumb tik tok dance DURING SCHOOL WHERE PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE HALLWAY, bro.
*filming with their phones, not filming phones, sorry

Extravagant proms and baby showers.
I mean… they don’t even KNOW what gender the kid is. Sex, sure, but gender? How would they possibly know?
Load More Replies...I utterly despise gender reveal parties. Al that fighting and protesting for gender inclusion, and then this s**t? You should be celebrating a baby, a tiny human. Not gender.
Okay, I think some people need this explained a bit. The gender of the baby is usually found out at the anatomy scan. The anatomy scan is this terrifying moment when you get to learn if your baby is going to be okay. Many many many people get horrible news at the anatomy scan. The 'gender reveal' aspect is small, what people are actually celebrating is the baby being healthy. It's a turning point where people can start to put their anxieties away, and tell extended circles of people about the pregnancy. "Gender reveal" gives the party a lighthearted theme, and gives the parents something to focus on other than the very real and very terrifying possibilities waiting at that appointment. Pregnancy is tough, people deserve to celebrate the additions to their families in whatever ways they want.
Load More Replies...And all the entitlement it comes with. The latest thing I'm reading that a lot women do is tell people they can't ever use certain names because they have it earmarked for their future kids, should they have any. Or that they can't get married within a year of them having a baby. The best is when they tell someone with a pet that they have to change their name because they want to use it for their kid when they have one. The narcissism going on in the world today is just insane.
I'm...I don't know I'm on the fence with this one. While I'm not an extravagant party kind of person I understand some people are. So long as Prom doesn't make it so people can't afford to go I'm ok with it, and baby showers if it's their first kid and they want it to be a bigger deal, that's up to them.
well baby showers are so people give gifts to help with their first baby. usually they don't happen past the first kid anyway

These are quite often the same people who think it's acceptable to "cancel" others because they have different opinions.
Because we're trying to normalize people having emotions because earlier generations made it so that people were emotionally repressed and what we got out of that was some of the most horrific and prolific serial killers of all time.
I’m older and I was often told that I was being “dramatic” when my tears fell. It was my parents specifically that made me feel there was something terribly wrong with me, although my younger siblings didn’t help either. Now I embrace anyone who is emotional as a sister or brother.
Load More Replies...The simple fact of the matter is that everyone is getting older. And no matter how awesome your metabolism is right now, you’ve got to sit down and think about the future. Consider what habits you need to start developing right now so that you age with dignity and can maintain a high standard of living.
Some of the best things that you can do to maintain your physical and mental health as you get older include getting plenty of exercise, eating well (avoid processed food, added sugar, and saturated fats as much as you can), having an active social life, and doing activities that bring you joy, whether that’s meditating, hiking in your local woodlands, painting, or collecting vinyl from the good old days—when music used to sound better!
The Andrew Tate style of misogynistic alpha male b******t that so many young men seem to buy into. I guess I kind of get how they're susceptible to that sort of stuff, but the ideology doesn't really make much sense.
I think most of the rest of the stuff like tik tok, hairstyles, and clothing is just a "kids these days" kind of thing where people aren't open minded enough to realize the stuff they were into as kids was seem as being just as stupid by the older generation. Because really, it boils down to it just being different and new.
I'm gen z and the vast majority of people hate andrew tate
Load More Replies...As a young guy I learned how to work with grown men without getting fired, and how to drink with them without getting punched. I can’t imagine someone like Andrew Tate lasting half an hour in either of those environments.
The alpha male b******t is selling because it basically says "People (women) owe you by default for the rest of your life so there's little you have to actively do to get ahead because you were already born a man and that's all that's needed." He sells it as a cheap ticket to wealth and fame.
I think real "Alpha Male" people I have met are supremely serene and self-confident. They never ask for validation from others, don't advertise their wealth/strength/achievements, and are supportive of others. Needing to show off muscles/cars/put down others seems to be a sign of deep insecurity if anything.
If you are something you don't need to tell people they already know. If you have to tell people what you are, you definitely aren't that. Talk is cheap. Show yourself through action not words.

Im still young, but Mukbang videos. I like cooking shows, but watching someone pig out on camera is just gross.
It’s true; I just learned about youtube channels where the only thing the person does is chain smoke and talk about their nicotine intake and some people LOVE it. They fantasize about when the smoker gets cancer and dies…

Load More Replies...I looove mukbang videos where people try/enjoy (new) food like those from Korean Englishman and Jolly. That kind of mukbang videos like from Nikocado Avocado on the other hand are just gross and disgusting.
Absolutely disgusting. I hate hearing people smack their lips let alone hearing so-called "ASMR" of a slob gorging on way too much food.
Never heard of this so I'll just compare it to Man vs Food. So, agree. Pretty gross.
Man vs Food is more of a person accepting a challenge that a restaurant has prepared (whilst disgusting to watch, it's usually properly prepared food). Westernised mukbangs are just people eating a large amount of what they would normally eat, such as fast food or other unhealthy rubbish as noisily as possible (usually with a load of internet drama, too, especially in the case of the person in the picture above - Nikocado Avocado)
Load More Replies...I would clarify that the original Korean thing, where the word "mukbang" comes from, is nothing like the horrendous Westernised version which is simply obese people becoming more obese while screaming, having breakdowns or just plain shoving as much as possible in using as much slurping/munching noises as they can.
I can't even stand the sound of chewing. Those videos make me want to run my laptop over with my car. JUST CANNOT STAND IT!

If camcorders and vhc cassettes were as cheap and readily available as cell phones are now, they would be recording everything too.
Husband and I were at the mall recently when the fire alarms went off,we started going to the closest exit ,people were standing there phones out filming it ,blocking the others trying to get out.The wardens sorted it but seriously why film it ,umm get out asap
This is how fools get run over and killed.

I saw someone filming themselves on the bus the other day. I was honestly dumbfounded. It was 730 in the morning and they were going to school but somehow felt the need to film it???
Why not? I was "stuck" at Stockholm airport last weekend after the most fabulous day in my life. I was in such a good mood that i took a 15 minute video while walking up and down between the terminals. Just so that i would never forget the night. Ive never had so much fun being "stuck" somewhere. I travel a lot and like to take silly video's that i dont share with others. Like just filming out of the window from a bus. no one has to get it, no one else but me has to watch it.
...I don't think that's what they're talking about. I think the post is talking about normal, everyday situations that aren't particularly exciting or special.

Going on vacation and watching it all through your phone’s camera instead of looking up and seeing it “live.”
Referring to anybody people don't like as narcissistic. Every form of lying or even just disagreement is gaslighting.
And triggers. While I get it and have my own mini-traumas I work through, I recognize my triggers are no one’s responsibility but my own. If you feel you’ll be triggered by what happens in public or life in general, prepare yourself to deal with it. Just stop demanding others inhibit or repress anything about themselves simply because you find it triggering.
Like on another site I frequent where people can write their stories about stuff they saw in life. For the last two or three months they started adding trigger warnings at the top of stories like "This story contains a death" where it is simply a story about a hotel worker discovering a guest dead in their room. No descriptions about how the body looked, if it started to rot, maggots eating it up, etc. It was just "I opened the door and found that unfortunately the guest had passed away overnight." and some people apparently need a warning for that.

I am scared of large bodies of water, specifically swimming pools. I have reasons for this. But I know that even though I am definitely scared of them and have little wish to be in water, it's not a full phobia. It's not that severe.
Load More Replies...The term “Gaslighting” in particular is not understood by many. It’s when someone tries to convince you that something you know is true, isn’t , and makes you feel crazy for your belief. It came from the film “Gaslight” about a man who made a woman feel crazy for what she knew to be true.
Or how anything they don't like is "toxic" . Sometimes you have to wear an entire shirt and pants that don't have holes or give you a permenant wedgie...it's called professional work attire, not a toxic work environment
It is a very real thing. It's ok to not understand something, but simply denying that something doesn't exist just because you either don't believe in it or haven't experienced it is wrong. Maybe it's a newer way of describing it, but it's a very real, well established manipulation technique that will be discussed in any psychology textbook.

The new Disney remakes.
"Hey guys, I have an idea. Let's get actors and remake our cartoons. We don't have to think of anything new for a decade."
They're only cranking these pieces of c**p out to make a quick buck and renew their licensing/trademarks on them so they can't enter public domain.
The live action remakes are about copyright law. It allows them to extend the copyright on their previous movies and preventing them from entering public domain.
To be fair though, most of their biggest hits are based on stories available for the Public Domain - like the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Cinderella or the Little Mermaid. There is basically no way to stop anybody from creating movies about those stories as long as they don't exactly copy Disney
Load More Replies...Ok seriously guys can all the hate against this movie stop? Really, they JUST changed the protagonist's upper-body skin colour. Pathetic.
To be fair we also hated on Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin.....Hate against Disney remakes isn't exclusive to The Little Mermaid.
Load More Replies...Sometimes I wonder if they only do remakes so they can hang on to the copyrights for the characters longer.
Granted, none of the live action remakes have been nearly as good as the classic animated movies, (I have not seen all of them), but they will probably give the kids the nostalgia we feel about the older versions. And most of them were not original stories to begin with, most were based on fairy tales, fables, or books.
The only "remake" of a Disney cartoon that was amazing was/is the Broadway version of The Lion King. I was taken away by how they could replicate that on stage, especially the scene with the wildebeest.
Load More Replies...Should black actors play mermaids??? This is besides the point. If actors are not allowed to portray someone they are not in real life (only gay people should play gay people?, only mothers should play mothers?, etc...), then perhaps only mermaids should play mermaids. Period!
Thank you. It was fun the first couple of times, but it's just tedious at this point.
I hate ALL remakes/reboots, unless they're treated more like a sequel. Like, there's now four different versions of A Star is Born. Why?!

When one feel little power or control within the context of how they fit into a society, especially when they feel powerless due to socio-economic reason or an “otherness”, they tend to exercise their power in interesting ways. Walking across or in traffic, forcing cars to stop. Making people hear their music. It’s a form of power, or control. Imagine you felt you had such little affect or agency in the world which you exist that your only outlet is making strangers respond & react. I’m convinced this is why we have so many “Karen” outbursts & tantrums: they feel an utter lack of control & agency in their lives.
Oh, I've said this before...If I have to listen to your rude a$$ rap music then you can hear MY tunes! Thrash Metal is my answer to rap "music".
I have to admit that I do this when I'm walking my dog. As a female, I do not feel safe having earbuds in while walking at night but I love listening to music while walking. It keeps me motivated. Women have to be aware of our surroundings when alone, so it is what it is.
yeah we hate this too. it's the modern equivalent of someone carrying a boombox everywhere.
I wish people-especially women- were taught more vigorously that it’s a big no to walk around in public while unable to hear someone approaching.
Self diagnosing their mental illnesses.
Unfortunately in most cases I've seen, getting a professional diagnosis is a privilege most cannot afford
Also in NZ you would wait a long time to get to see a Profesional publicly. Our mental health system is shocking especially when you consider the high rate of suicides we have

I told my dad that my friend says she THINKS she COULD have Falling Snow Syndrome, and he said she was self-diagnosing. There ain't no way I'm telling him I think i might have ADHD ._.

Hello. I have been struggling with depression, hallucinations, delusions, self harm, nightmares and identity issues ever since i was 12. I am 20 now and even after extensive therapy, various prescriptions and even a stay in a psych ward, i am yet to be diagnosed with anything at all. I never needed anyone to tell me something is wrong, i can tell that myself, but the doctors failed to figure out what it is. Hell, some of them thought i was making it up for attention. If i myself had not researched things and figured out ways to keep myself grounded, i would be dead. Sometimes, this is the only thing you can do to keep yourself from falling over the edge. Of course, i do not claim my own findings to be actual diagnosis, duh, but sometimes, there is simply nowhere else to go.
Or just throwing around diagnoses without having the qualification to do so
Funny how their self diagnosis always plays to giving them an excuse not to try, or an advantage over others.
To be honest, I self diagnosed my ADHD and was assessed by a specialist who agreed. I'm currently on medication and more stable than I've been for a very long time. I was 47 when I was diagnosed and getting into trouble at work. Had I been diagnosed at a much earlier age, things could have been different for me. I might not have struggled so much or burned out as much.
Such as the number of people who claim to be bipolar because they get sad or mad sometimes. And everybody who claims to be OCD because they like their dishes clean or their medicine cabinet straight.
As a teacher, I get enormously annoyed by the idea that it seems cool to be stupid for a significant amount of teens. Like being actually proud of lacking or pretending to lack basic knowledge or primary skills. Over the last 2 weeks I had a 14 y old pretending not to know who the figure of Christ was, a kid claiming not to know how to use a ruler and one who claimed to never have used scissors…
Update: 5 min ago a 14y old asked me wether pigs have ears…
Yes, pigs have ears, so do wethers (but not some other parts of their anatomy)
Of course pigs have ears, kid. That"s what they flap when they want to fly.

YouTube reaction videos. I don’t understand what’s interesting about watching someone react to watching a different video.
Depends on what you are watching. Some of them are discovering the music I discovered when I was a kid and watching their excitement is refreshing these days. The Charismatic Voice for instance is a professional opera singer and she reacts to metal but explains how the vocalists make the sounds. If you look at them as people going on a musical journey, it make more sense. Some have also interviewed bands and they ask more interesting questions that music journalists.
Same, Charismatic Voice, Tank the Tech and Chase Carneson, Julia Nilon, in the beginning of the pandemic were really nice to watch. I wouldn't call them reactors though. More like.. explainers. They explain the music, explain the technique, give more background info about insruments or the history of the band, while discovering a band. You learn from them.
Load More Replies...YouTube reaction videos are popular for the same reason we show our favourite songs/movies/whatever to our friends and family. It feels great watching someone else enjoy something you like and then you're presented with a comment section made up mostly of people sharing that exact experience. It's not for everyone, but it's the thing on this list I'm most inclined to defend.
Agreed, and seeing them go insane over the same things you went insane over just gives a boost of euphoria because you can go through the “omg cool thing!!!” experience all over again
Load More Replies...It kinda depends on the genre they react to. And if they `react` at all. Some of these `reacters` just sit there and stare at you, not moving an inch, not whispering even a word, nothing.
The flip side are the ones that immediately start bobbing their head when it's not humanly possible to have already "gotten into" the song 50ms after it started. And then there are those that say every song is great. I like the genuine reactions, even sometimes saying they dislike a song. Lost in Vegas, for example, don't pretend to like songs. I'm bored of them now, though. I just watch Virgin Rock because she doesn't actually "react". She analyzes mainly.

It was fun watching some 20-something Americans listening to 'Lola' by the Kinks. They both enjoyed it, but the best bit was when one caught the line 'I bet I'm a man, and so is Lola.' and the other one didn't. The astonishment as the truth dawned, then the conversation afterwards as she explained to her oblivious husband was great. They still loved the song, too.

I actually love watching people react to movies and shows that I love. I want to know what they thought of it and if they loved it as much as I did.

The idea that shame shouldn’t exist.
No, we're just not okay with shaming people for things like weight, sexual orientation, gender identity, being sexually active or not, etc.
No one should be be shamed or feel ashamed for those things you mentioned and I don’t think the original poster was thinking of these. No one should feel ashamed of what they cannot change. I feel shame should come into play is when people who do things that are nothing to be proud of like insulting or assaulting people for views on a Tik Tok video, treating waitstaff like jerks, etc.. Older generations were often taught by their parents to be ashamed of their bad behavior and their bad behavior could bring shame to their parents and family as their children represent and are the product of their teachings and examples. We should attempt to show consideration and respect for each others, time, feelings, property, and comfort when possible. Etiquette and formality has gone out the window, yet many of these rules are about showing respect and extending comfort to others. When we blatantly disregard or hurt those around us for our own amusement, we should absolutely feel ashamed.

Guilt is about something you've done/said - shame is about who you are as a person. This is why they're against shaming people for one aspect of themselves - and good on them!

Filming everything they do and putting it online. I prefer to be mostly anonymous
When there is nothing in your life worth anything, you gain currency by showing off what you do, however incompetently you manage to do it.
I like watching people draw and tell stories like Thestarfishface does or watch gaming but I don’t like vlogs
Same here. I don't even post any photos of myself online. I use drawn avatars that are close to what I look like in real life.
Watching unboxing videos.
I like these because so many things are ordered online now, it is nice to know EXACTLY what is going to be in the box, the size it is in comparison to normal hand/desk/table/whatever. It can be useful.
Agreed. Sometimes with new stuff us old farts don't even realize what are parts and what is packaging. Yes, I have watched out of the box videos, sometimes multiple times. There i said it.
Load More Replies...Unboxing videos give you a quick glance at the product in regular environment as opposed to photoshopped / studio renders, and a person can tell you whether it feels cheep, plasticky, whether it's heavy and how it compares to different things around the house. They can let you know their first impressions and inform you about what to realistically expect when ordering a product online. I cannot travel at all and our city has like no good stores so I got to order everything blindly from interwebs, and these videos really help.
Not as dumb as they sound IF the product is something you might consider buying. I've run across them when searching for info on something I was actually planning to purchase and seeing exactly what I got, how it was packaged, and the steps to get it up an functioning were all useful information to me.
Hm, I disagree. They are good for you to see new stuff for example. Maybe you are planning to replace your phone, but have no idea what to get next. So this videos might give you some ideas.
OK. I might have to disagree a bit with this. Some are really cool to watch. Probably have to do with the degree of delicacy and care employed in these videos and also the appreciation of the nuances. Some are quite funny too
I think I've been exposed to too many kids opening up toys.

I dont understand certain genres of tiktok/YouTube videos. Who is entertained by those videos where it's a robot voice reading out reddit comments while subway surfer is being played on screen? Who is the audience for those videos where some dude with an awful haircut asks people risqué questions either on a college campus or at the beach?
Nobody enjoys robot voice subway surfers videos... nobody makes them either they just spawn.
I seem to remember a story about a lot of the content not being produced by random people but almost being "factory produced" by a few content creation companies. Can't find a good link now. Not quite the same as Troll Farms, it was about monetization.

22 here so this definitely applies to older folks as well but for the love of all things large and small: **why the hell is mumble rap still a thing**. I'm not talkin Eminem, Tupac, Biggie, etc. I'm referring to the untalented, autotuned nitwits that try to pass their 'gangta' mumbles off as music. Now granted, I know I have a rather eclectic taste in music, but holy c**p some of these 'artist' somehow are both autotuned and still sound like their actively riding the dope dragon in the studio.
I just don't get half the "music" nowadays. It's all just s****y remakes
Every generation has said this about young people's music.
Load More Replies...Hate it too, but cant help laugh whenever i hear "chacaron" by el chombo. A radio dj tried to get it to number one in the uk so the bbc would have to play it all the time, just to prove how c**p music is these days.

Load More Replies...Why do people think it's ok to talk c**p about different types of music. It's not like it's hurting anyone. If you don't like it, don't listen to it! Music is so subjective and I do think it gets fashionable to look down on particular genres but there are fans of all genres, just find like minded fans of your favourites and let other people enjoy their favourites!
This person wasn't referring to Eminem, Tupac, or Biggie as mumble rap but "to the untalented, autotuned nitwits that try to pass their 'gangta' mumbles off as music"

Why do so many teenagers and people in early 20's spend so much money and time on Starbucks? I am from Europe and the first store opened in my country only 2 years ago. Tried it (not only the coffee, some other things too) and it was absolutely awful. I am sure all bigger cities have a place with better coffee or sweets 2: Underage girls dancing on TikTok - now I understand the other comments here defending how creating videos and pics and posting them constantly on social media can be a coping mechanism, but what kind of coping mechanism is being 16/17/18, putting on a crop top and ripped jeans or a mini skirt and dancing in front of a camera to a song which often has very sexual and mature lyrics? Are they the type of girls who are too afraid to go outside and talk to guys/girls or are they part of a scheme to catch pedophiles?
Pretty much every generation has had some version of #2. When I was that age it was friends taking pictures of each other in 'cool' clothes/poses. The difference is that social media allows for a huge audience.
Umm…no one in my gen X experience did it, And I can’t think of how previous generations managed to get their bits out for complete strangers (or people they knew). Until IG and Tik Tok, behaving like like this was pretty much unthinkable, and I was a kid in the 70s and 80s.

Not doing things because of pedophiles is f*****g ridiculous. Pedophiles will masturbate to random images from catalogs. You should be far more concerned with ol' uncle Jim. Not some random that is hundreds, if not thousands of miles away. A child and a teen are far more likely to be groomed and assaulted by a family member or family friend than a random person.
1.) Starbucks is overhyped. 2.) They don't fully realize that it's not just sharing with friends, (At least, the younger ones). I mean, they do, but numbers and pixels are meaningless. They don't understand the songs fully (on non=english speaking countries) and just want to participate in a hype. Like collectiong bean babies, wearing a certain type of bracelets or shoes (the clear plastic glitter shoes many girls had in the 90's)... the things we did, but now it's following along digitally.
Starbucks failed in Australia because their coffee is c**p, and we have soooooooo much better coffee

Snapchat and location sharing. It's so vain. Humans are not meant to be that connected.
Humans used to live in small tribes that spent most of their time together and had little privacy. We’re a very social and connected species.

wait, is OP talking about dreads? they look dumb? and it's for f**k boys?
I haven't seen that. But I do see way too many "man buns", and desperately hope THOSE will go away.
It's ugly as hell, all of it. Porn stache reminds me of awful people I've met, the broccoli haircut is just the top of the iceberg. It's horrifying. Not too mention the chola look from 90s and early 2000s I've seen around, 🤮
Watching gaming streams. Watching your older brother hog the controller instead of being able to play yourself was considered torture when I grew up. Edit: a few of you have mentioned that it's like watching sports and that is a good point. Since I don't do that either, I guess it's just lost on me.
I would compare it more to watching a show, how people do something different and such - and in case of live streams it's very interactive. Also a great way to look at games that maybe can't be run on the own system
It might a good thing if it´s about a game you can´t play yourself, because I doubt anybody has all the consoles. I am not a gamer and normally don´t care at all, but one time I actually watched a six hour game stream because I was interested in the game, but couldn't play it myself. It was Stray.
Sometimes it to watch someone who is better than you so you can see how they do. It's called LEARNING.
It really depends on the streamer and what their content is for me. I don't watch many gamers, but I do like CallMeKevin and DarkViperAU. Also Biffa Plays Indie Games I find almost meditative to watch.
For me it depends on what they are doing with the game. For me, I like watching the Spiffing Brit, because he finds exploits and bugs in games, leading to a completely different way of playing the game. He even occasionally gets asked by developers to play a game pre-release so he can 'break' the game so they know what to patch. Also with console exclusive games, some people end up missing out on games they would have otherwise played. I'm a massive fan of the series, but I'm not buying a Nintendo Switch just to play Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom; So I might watch someone play it, to check out the storyline and gameplay.
If you like the Spiffing Brit, You'll like Let's Game it Out. He's hilarious.
Load More Replies...Nope not like sports, not everyone is good at sports or has the stamina to do it. Sports will bring insane amount of people of different origins together. Gaming is something you do yourself and anyone can do. Doing it professionally i still find it weird but ok you earn something so cool. But watching someone playing videogames just no, tedious. Also i understand the walkthroughs if they are recorded makes it easy to process when stuck but to watch the entirety absolutely not. It's rather play (and i do)
Not everyone has the money or the consoles to play certain games. And I like watching streams of horror games because I know I'd be too scared to play them myself.
Load More Replies...It's exactly like watching sports. In both instances you're sitting on your a*s staring at something happening on a screen you have no control over.
Load More Replies...Vaping and TikTok.
My partner is vainglorious coz he is trying to quit smoking. It definitely smells a whole lot better and I'd rather kiss grape than ashtray.
Say what you will, but vaping is the only thing I ever tried that actually helped me quit smoking. Now I don't do either.
For anyone interested in whether vaping will help you quit smoking. Edit spoiler alert, it won’t. https://www.vapetruths.initiatives.qld.gov.au/dr-karls-vape-truths
It helped me and it helped others I know (and in fact was the only thing that did help), so apparently there isn't a lot of truth in that article. I didn't bother checking it out, because my own experience tells me otherwise. As with any other cessation aid, you have to genuinely *want* to quit for it to work, but vaping *does* work, whereas most of the other methods don't.
Load More Replies...Shorts. I do not have any idea how TikTok or Facebook reels are so popular. All I know is they are almost always more annoying the shorter their length is.
For a sec I thought someone had a problem with the CLOTHING shorts and was very confused before reading the second sentence.
I also dislike the youtube shorts. I wish there was a way to filter them out when looking at updates.
The educational shorts are good. If you see enough of them, the algorithm will automatically remove the useless ones. ( No offence meant though ).
Load More Replies...Because they are trying to train us to have the attention span of a goldfish.
I actually like YT shorts...for certain things. It's a quick way to see what's in a dish I've never tried without watching a 20 minute video on the entire recipe, for example. If it looks good, I can click the link to the full video. Shorts are like previews.
putting random cooking or “satisfying” videos next to the main video on tiktok. i don’t know if it started as a trick to keep people’s attention, but as someone with diagnosed and lifelong ADD, they’re only distracting and take away from what the main video is. it drives me up the wall and no matter how many times i press “not interested” i still get videos like that on my fyp. i hope this trend dies out sometime soon
I found that on youtube it actually respects it if you keep following respectable stuff... BUT if you watch EVEN ONE b******t video it starts offering those en masse.
Fr like I have adhd and when they do this I just look over at the slime and miss lie half the video
People, if you are interacting in any way with content, you are adding it to your algorithm. Like, dislike, upvote, downvote, not interested, comment...it doesn't matter. To the algorithm, any interaction is positive. Just like (for some people) the way negative attention is better than none. If you ignore the content you dislike, you'll see less of it.
I don’t know if it’s the misanthrope speaking or the aging millennial or what but I can’t f*****g STAND the “look at how good of a person I am” type s**t. It’s not so much the videos. It’s people writing these lengthy a*s stories including things that were “said” quotes and everything about how they helped a woman at a gas station because three OTHER dudes were harassing her (that’s just the most recent one I saw earlier today). And it’s like…cool man, none of that probably happened…BUT if it actually did, why do you feel the need to write a lengthy post and then admonish people not doing the same? Personally, if I saw a woman going through something like that, I’d probably silently try to make sure she’s okay if that doesn’t work, then I’d step in. I’d probably get my a*s beat if it were actually a dangerous situation. And also, I’d be afraid the woman would think I’m just joining in with the other dudes and freak her the f**k out even more. But regardless, I sure as f**k wouldn’t feel the need to announce it. HEY LOOK HOW GREAT I AM! DID YOU READ MY STORY ABOUT HOW IM A BETTER PERSON THAN YOU!?
The videos of trying to see who is a good person, by pretending to have an injury and trying to go down steps and watching if someone offers help. Then one person helps, and they point out the camera. Next time that person sees someone with a broken ankle going down the steps, he might think: probably fake again, I don't need to help". Or the: look how good I am, making a homeless/poor person break down in tears because I give them money. Look how I post all about you being in a bad place, and how much of a good person I am for sharing 1/10000ths of the money I have.
This entire complaint is an announcement about how much better they are for not drawing attention to how much better they are.
OK, but... if we only ever tell people about the bad stuff, and we only ever hear about the bad news, because good news doesn't get views, then the world is going to seem like a terrible place. When actually good stuff and kind deeds happen all the time, we are just too ashamed of feeling like bragging if we tell anyone, so noone ever hears of the good stuff around them.
The videos of giving a homeless / disadvantaged person something. (Money, clothes etc) "Look what a nice thing I did" Err... I regularly used to grab the two-for-one deals on some stuff, just to hand the extra to the homeless guy who sat outside. (He wasn't begging, didn't bother anyone.) I used to sit with him when I had time just to have a chat, and make him feel that someone SAW him, and cared. Lovely guy, quite intelligent, we had interesting chats. He preferred living this way. I asked numerous times if he needed help to get into accommodation, and he always declined.
Also the GoFundMe pages for people who have done f**k all. Yeah it's bad that the (insert victim and form of abuse here) had to deal with the a*****e, but why am I expected to give £10 to someone who was bullied so they can walk away from the past £20,000 richer? Are we going to raise that amount of money for every bullying victim, or just the ones filmed by some dude who was around when a "Karen" entered and started kicking up a fuss?
YES! "Oh, look at this person/animal suffering, I'm going to help them but gotta make sure my phone is out and video is running leaving me with one hand to try and help first." I don't understand that. I love feel good stories don't get me wrong, I love seeing good in the world, but when it's like accidentally caught on video by a random person or someone sharing about something someone did for them as opposed to someone bragging about themselves, those are what I like.
yeah, some peope find these things inspiring, you know. if i would help someone in danger i would share it too, most of all to get it off of my chest, and also to show you can help others, or just a reminder that it can be dangerous, i dont know. I every now and then buy a homeless person a sandwich or something (is that ok with you to share it?) Then i saw someone telling how they gave someone HALF of a sandwich package they couldnt finish. I always asumed it would be rude for some reason but then I got a sandwich i didnt like. threw it away and asked a guy if he wanted to have the other one and he said yes. I dont understand the problem.
It's called virtue signaling and it's ubiquitous. Jesus warned about these people in the Bible, yet we see it every day in the US Christian community. Look at De Santis, he's proclaiming his virtue by flying immigrants around and taking on companies for trying to be diverse and inclusive. Yes, it happens with influencers, too. All types of people do this.
F*****g squash mallows. I thought they at least did something. They're like $25 a piece! IT'S JUST A PILLOW. that being said i was a product of the beanie baby generation so what the f**k do i know
I have been called out. I have like 5. One huge one(legit the size of a pillow), one medium size, one large one, and 2 mini ones I got in a Christmas stocking this past Christmas. The medium one I bought at kings island for an embarrassing price 😬
Not for US or some EUR countries, no, that's a fair price imo. For countries that have to do hefty conversion, the value can be up to couple times higher, making it an extreme investment. (For me, for example, this is cost of of half a week of food for whole family).
Load More Replies...I'm a tactile person and I love the way they feel. And they're cute. :) But not everyone likes stuffies or wants to sit and pet them for minutes on end so I get where you're coming from!
They just give me joy. Even i don't know why I'm so f*****g obsessed with them! Its just diving into my pile of Mallows and i feel so much better.
Prime - the drink. Simply don’t understand the hype. Snapchat and streaks.
Prime is for kids. Like actual kids, 12 and under or so. Kids get excited about stuff, particularly stuff that feels like a "score." Prime is available plenty of places, but sells out fast, especially the popular flavors. Finding their favorite flavor is a win for them. I have a lot of time to think about this while restocking the Prime yet again.
The energy drink version is not suitable for people under the age of 18 though....so their target market is iffy.
Load More Replies...Every generation has this, though. I loved Spaghetti-Os and Hawaiian Punch as a kid. I'd probably spit them out now.
The urge to follow social media trends.
The Ice Bucket Challenge raised millions of dollars for ALS Research. The #MeToo movement exposed a lot of predators to the light of day and victims were able to find solidarity. They're not all bad.
I like doing trends where I have to edit or it has really good music like roblox trends and stuff but I don’t like trancing trends
Thank God past generations never followed trends! The only reason why they weren't influenced by social media is because there wasn't social media. If there was, they also would have been influenced by it.
I don't understand the search for friendships, validation and approval via sharing themselves online. There's something so paper thin about it. I understand the irony of replying with this on a social networking site like Reddit.
I’ve made some close friends online and it really opened my horizons. I don’t like shallow online communications but I don’t see the issue in making friends online, it can be a really good experience.
Yeah it's like pen pals back in the day. Just a lot more convenient.
Load More Replies...In real life I don’t meet many people because there’s hardly any students in my class and all the kids in my neighbourhood are rich entitled twats so online is where I can find people who I can actually relate to instead of hiding my true self in real life
Met my husband online, and not on a dating site. We started as pen pals. We’ve been married 22 years.
Ive met some of my dearest friends via online communities, esp in music. Some of them ive known for 25 years. Like mentioned here, its like penpals back in the day. I would go meet my friends that i never met and my mom was ok with it. I remember our neighbours going "oh how nice!" when i was about to make a 3 hr trainride to meet my friend. Now if you say you're gonna meet a friend you've met online everyone freaks out. Chill, its the same fans of indie bands im getting in contact with, its not that im on my way to Nigeria to visit the prince that promised me a lot of money!
Yes, I'm sure psychologists and behavioral scientists know that this is ultimately destructive yo a person's sense of worth, lovability,
Vanity mixed with incredibly low self-esteem and -respect. They cant find friends in their real lives so onto the computer they g.
Most Tik Tok videos. Imo it’s just mindless entertainment. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a place for entertainment that allows you to completely check out and just absorb just complete stupidity. That can be fun. But children waste hours of their day just mindlessly scrolling on tik tok when those videos have absolutely no substance.
Its not just kids; I have a loser co-worker a few months older than me who is absorbed into the app.
I'm on a completely different side of Tiktok I guess- my fyp is mostly art, pets, and Zelda stuff.
Cosmetic stuff in video games, some of it is kind of cool but I don’t understand the amount of value people put on it.
Video games are a hobby, and I like having aesthetically pleasing things to look at while I'm doing this hobby.
Dopamine drip. I’m thankful my kid finally grew out of Fortnite. We were spending way too much money on this c**p.
Voice messages. Unsearchable, time-consuming, why?
Ok, that's legit. But it also means you have no record either.
Load More Replies...it depends. I use them when I am driving. Typing while driving is much more dangerous. YES I know should not use phone at all while driving. However my job is WAY demanding and I get calls and messages from "important" people like every few minutes and they karen out if I do not reply.
Cocomelon
It keeps my toddler entertained long enough for me to sh!t and shower in peace, so I'm all for cocomelon.
Roblox. To me it just looks like it's a game based on a Chinese Lego rip-off, but I'll admit I haven't really looked into it. My nephew is obsessed with it and plays it pretty much every minute of his free time.
You admit you haven't looked into it, yet you still take the time to criticize it. Nice admission of ignorant judgement.
I'm not familiar with it, but apparently it lets people program games and play games created by other people. It's both learning coding and gaming in one hobby.
Well you can’t blame roblox developers for pay to win games, roblox is a platform where you build a game for other people to play if it’s a pay to win game that’s because some player made it a pay to win, too many people get mad at the platform developers , it’s not their fault it’s whoever made it’s
Tbh I love roblox and I’ve gotten some robux before but I won’t be like some roblox players who spend THREEE HUNDRED DOLLARS just to get one stupid skin that takes away you’re limbs, and I hate people who use their robux to win or get boosts, but then again i am a child and don’t know much yet.
It's a trap engineered to convince kids to spend $100s of their parents' money on virtual hats.
I don’t play it much, but it’s the only game I and my friends have to play together. I never get to see them so it’s fun to hang out with them in games like bloxburg and royal high :)
ur nephew is me. i started playin it since 2016. Till now, but i dont have anything other than my school laptop:(
It's a simpler and more complex version of minecraft, which is just a sanbox - like literally when you were playing in the sand you could make whatever you wanted, within some constraints. Minecraft is like that, but it's really basic (you make the electronic circuits yourself which makes it complex). Minecraft is more like BASIC computer programming, while Roblox is more like the shell around it with premade buttons and controls. I have a feeling I am not explaining this properly... Anyway, yes, graphics are bad, but it's the gameplay that is the right mix of free creativity within set boundaries and more or less playing with others/friends.
I understand some of this stuff, like respecting other people's rights, and not disturbing public, but some of this stuff ... well, let's just say I'm a lot happier since realizing that if someone is doing something and it doesn't actually impact me, I don't have to worry about it. Sometimes joy and peace are found in not worrying about what other people do.
I'm an old. (64). Most of my friends are old. All of my siblings are old. I work with mostly old people. And I can guarantee that none of us care about any of these. I wish BP would stop perpetuating this made-up c**p.
And here we are, yet another BP post to stir up resentment and ill feeling towards others and stop you all focusing on the real problems the world faces. Just stop the infighting and focus on the very real villains in this world. Let me tell you it's not young people sharing things on their phones or old people who can't switch on a computer that are the problem.
Don’t like it? Don’t watch it, read it, engage with it, be involved in it, simply walk away. There were things you did in your youth that would wind you parents up, they let you explore the world your way, let the younger generation do the same. Just because you don’t understand it doesn’t me it’s wrong. If it’s harming no one then let them enjoy their lives and you can stop being so judgemental of others, everyone wins!
Honestly live and let live, as long as its doing no harm to them or anyone else and they enjoy it then go ahead and enjoy that thing

And like, we don’t wear eyelashes and long nails for any of you, we wear it bc we feel shown and comfortable like it, it is expressing ourselves. Showing ourselves.
Load More Replies...A lot of these are not generation specific. It's a d**k move to be on speaker phone or have your music playing in a public place. Doing/filming pranks or others for financial or social gain - been around for a long time AFV, Jackass. Starbucks or other overpriced coffee - started in the 90s.
Tiktok dances are actually fun though when you're not disturbing everyone. Let teens have fun. Don't like it? Don't watch. And no I'm not defending tiktok challenges that are illegal or promote health risks. I'm just talking about dances.
