Woman Adopts Elderly Dog From Shelter And Finds Out It's Actually Her Lost Childhood Puppy
Bit of a misleading title here. The dog wasn't lost, she was given away when she was a few years old because the dad worked from home and the dog barked too much. The dog also wasn't at a shelter, she was being adopted out by a family.
It's from the epoch times, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't totally misleading

Only sad part is that at some point some heartless jerk is gonna see that and just dump out the bottle for malice's sake.
I dunno. For every truly nasty person there are probably 1000 cynics presuming the worst. Which is more heartless? Imagining some jerk might do it, or spreading the idea of that ugliness with countless others? Sometimes cynicism is just as mentally unkind to strangers as a physical deed done.
Load More Replies...I love this. This is how I want to be sent on my way. In a nice shiraz bottle 😃
These ashes aren't actually from someone named Dorian, they are actually the ashes of Nancy Gant Swanson. They were found in the Cumberland Harbour near St. Mary's North Carolina by a group of friends who were beach combing after Hurricane Dorian swept the East coast of the US
We're Remodeling Our Bathroom And Our Contractor Just Sent This
Growing up my mom changed the contact paper in the bathroom several times (stick backed, not "good" wall paper). She would let me draw on the walls before putting the new stuff up. I can only imagine the next home owner thinking they would take down the old paper and finding my artwork lol

Load More Replies...Thing is... you'd probably buy the rolls before you start tearing the old paper off and finding that message.
But finding out as you start rather than at the end of doing all that work means you can go get more before you start doing anything, or if that was all there is in that particular pattern, exchange the ones you have for credit toward a different choice.
Load More Replies...I thought about this and looked it up to confirm. Rolls of wallpaper are not all the same length. Yes, it's probably one length or another (unless it's a "double roll"!), but did you get the 13.5' length or the 16.5' length? Sheesh!
Doesn't it depend on the pattern too? You have to match the pattern at the correct place, meaning you may not start at the top of the roll each time.

Why is this a bad question (people downvoted). At least here in the USA, construction and other companies can be fined massive amounts for causing ecological 'disasters' such as this. Yes, it's an incredible archeological find, but the company still lost a LOT of water. Where did it go? What harm did it do? I think that's what Thomas may have been asking. The company obviously screwed up- even with a find such as was uncovered.

$5.99 for me in Feb ;72, and I met 'em after the show. Concerts were cheap, albums were expensive.
Load More Replies...I had to know where they were hidden all those years, so I found the Reddit post - "They were stuck in between the side of a pull out drawer in his old dresser."
$6.75!!! I just looked up what $7 in 1975 equals to in 2022. (Would let me use decimal points) Apparently it's only just over $37 today. Which for the UK... is £28. I can't get over this. I honestly expected it to be a couple hundred at least. What the hell happened to music concerts to mean that the actual young crazy obsessed fans can't actually afford to go / bankrupt themselves in the process! This is absolutely nuts. And kind of makes me wish I lived in the 60's / 70's. Yes. A lot of horrible s**t happened. But there's also a lot of horrible s**t happening today, so....
I think the main reason is not just inflation, but how much the band grew in popularity and fame. So, while yes, it would be about $37 today, because they lasted so long, kept creating great stuff, and became one of rock and rolls' voices of a generation, the price went way up. I also feel that bands sometimes don't have much of a choice as to how much is charged, not to mention the audiences grew so much, spanning more than one generation of fans. So while albums were much more expensive that a concert back then, now it's the other way around.

Wow, that hurts to even look at. Especially given the date - when they were at their prime.
They were also at their highest around that time. That may have been good for creativity, but not so much for technical proficiency. Shortly after seeing them live in '75 I saw them on one of the mid-70's TV concert shows and wasn't impressed, but having also been high for the live concert I hadn't noticed.

Eisenhower Dollars are worth at least 3 times face value, depending on the year.
Load More Replies...And some are bicentennial Eisenhower dollars... You have much more than you realize!
Bored_as_heck, they’re one dollar coins! No matter what year they are, they’re already worth more than $.50. Actually, at least twice as much !
Check to see if any of them are below the date 1979, then they are pure silver and worth way more than $.50
Serious question. Do multi-level houses have crawlspaces between floors? Or do they mean the attic?
I assume the latter. Crawlspaces in between the floors would be a lot of work (and money) for almost no added value.
Load More Replies...I looked up the article and the money isn't silver and its 404$ in dollars
A very small attic, if it is above - not big enough to stand up in, only crawl. We tend to refer to crawl space under the floors in the UK.

Found An Over 100 Year Old Time Capsule In My Backyard!
I absolutely love stuff like this! So cool to uncover items from the past.
I would always love to find something like this. My mum used to collect antique books and one of my personal favourites is a child's geography/history books from the mid 1800s. The little boy who owned it must have been quite the character as there are little drawings he did inside, cut-outs from old newspapers, and a little paper-doll of a soldier. It was a really neat and fun find.
Wonderful find! Makes me think of an archaeological find from around 1000 years ago, where a school boy had drawn pictures of himself fighting dragons. It makes you feel close to people from long ago.

I Might Have To Do This One Day
I won a contest (as a teacher) to be the "principal for a day." Totally abused the privilege, but the shenanigans that went on is too long a story for this post. Main point is I filled the principal's office with dozens of koala bear memes. She was finding them in drawers and cabinets and random places for 2 years after. After I left that school for another - so maybe 3-4 yrs after initial planting, she sent me a msg saying, "Guess what I found today?" with a picture of that koala bear lol! Have no idea if she ever found them all 😂
Found This “White Couch” In A Free Pile Years Ago And Saw A Rip In It Last Night When I Was Cleaning To Find It Was Reupholstered Over Gorgeous Emerald Green Fabric This Whole Time!
For me the one looks blue the one looks green. Camera and lighting makes it change fuzzy fabric like velvet to me change colour depending on angle
Load More Replies...I went shopping for a new/used dining room set for my first house. I found a beautiful burled walnut set with upholstered chairs. They matched the couch my mother had given me. We brought the couch from Indiana to Florida in 1960 and had it re-covered. It was meant to be.
I would never grumble about cleaning again, if it led to a discovery like this.
Why does it look royal sapphire blue or peacock blue. It most definitely does not look like emerald green.
The plant is clearly green so the fabric is clearly blue! What are they color blind? Fun fact: 60% of men are color blind. 20% of women are color blind.

Found These 110(?) Year Old Crayolas In The Back Of A Family Secretary Desk. The Pack Still Has The Crayons
Be careful with old artist supplies (even crayons). Some of them can have dangerous ingredients. Lead, for example. The kinds of ingredients in some colours are unreal. Arsenic, mercury, chromium, radioactive materials... and then there are the morally objectionable ones, like 'Mummy Brown'- made from real, ground up mummies! Or Indian Yellow - made from the urine of cows only fed mango leaves and water, which slowly killed them. I'm sure there are more, but the point is; be cautious!
I wonder if there is a different package for recreational colour work?
Have you contacted the BINNEY & SMITH, CO.? They might be interested in having these back as an advertisement for the longevity of their product. Who knows, they might compensate you monetarily…probably not much, but something, the box being an original and having all of the crayons intact. See #28 in this thread. Yours could be an important find, too.
These Medieval Ruins Randomly Found Under A Schools Gym Hall
It's so odd to imagine that one day something completely different could be built on top of the spot where your house was, and people don't even know about it. (If it was my place, they'd have the Random Pop Culture Artefacts of the Past dig to end all Random Pop Culture Artefacts of the Past digs.)
I... have the feeling something similar is under my house (farm built in the 1900's). I mean, the location is too good not to have had previous buildings built there, through the Roman era and Middle Age. Plus, sometimes we can hear some weird muffled sounds of water and rocks falling underground...
Load More Replies...I am from Rome. People there are afraid of digging. You never know what priceless mosaic you are going to find and there goes your new house.
Same here in Augsburg (Augusta Vindelicum). If something gets dug up, not only will it delay your construction work, but you'll also have to pay for the archeologists' work.

Birth Announcement From 1988

It somehow it made it to the town where I live several hours away. I was so shocked to find it, I had to buy it back. $2 well spent to preserve my legacy
Right ? This deserved a negative review on yelp not a kind post on bored panda :) Jkjk but for real if I was the shop owner or even just a cashier I would have gave it back
Load More Replies...I have a good story kind of like this. My mom got rid of my old clothes from when I was 6 or 5? But in that box was a dress with cats on it that she made for me that she meant to keep. She found it at a goodwill about ten years later and it is now in my keepsake box.
Wow! Do you live in a small town or someplace quasi-rural?
Load More Replies...This looks like some cross stitching projects that I used to do, even the same time period. I made something very similar for my sister commemorating her wedding.
Myself and two of my brothers were made very similar cross-stitch when we were born ('89-'92) by someone from church. Mum still has them on the wall. When I got interested in cross-stitch in my teens I decided it wasn't fair that my younger two siblings (who were born '99 & '00, after we left that church) didn't have one so I made one for each of them too.

RIDICULOUS that they made you pay for it!!! I had something similar happen. In the late 60's I met a British professor who had written a ground breaking book on anthropology for lay people, called "We the Tikopeia." I bought a copy and he signed it to me with my name. I must have loaned it to someone who gave it away and life went on....25 years later I was in a used book store and OMG, there was my book!! What I had paid 95¢ for in 1969, I had to pay $3.50 for later. The jerks.
Found A Drawing Of A Robot In A Chemistry Book From 1918
His Tin Man predates The Wizard of Oz movie by 20 years.
Load More Replies...So fascinating that this predates the use of the word Robot. People didn't start to call them that until after the play Rossum's Universal Robots from 1920, hence why the old word Automaton is used on this 1918 drawing.
The first use of the word robot came from a Czechoslovakian book in the 1920s
Load More Replies...This is the Automaton from Harry Houdini's 1918 movie "The Master Mystery" it was the 1st robot ever to appear in the movies. https://www.flyingcarsandfoodpills.com/houdinis-film-robot
So it turns out that school boys have always been drawing robots in class.
The book must have been purchased in 1918, but the paper could date from any time between then and when the poster acquired the book. It's probably from a similar period, as it seems to be a drawing of the automaton from a 1918 film (according to another comment), but that's the only potential proof of its age.
Looks like it was based on the 1910 "Macduffee submarine armor" diving suit.
And I wouldn't put it past Houdini to base the Automaton on that diving suit. In 1921 he patented a new design for a quick escape diving suit.

And don't forget your pencil in the roof...
Load More Replies...TIL a large deposit of graphite was discovered in Borrowdale, England, in 1564. People soon figured out that graphite was better than lead for writing, but it was soft and brittle, so it had to be encased in wood. Wood/graphite pencils were first mass-produced in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1662. Faber-Castell was an early pencil company.
I like this. Interesting to see the shape of pencils, before the wood could be wrapped right around the lead.

My Uncle Found A Bag Of Volcano Ash From Mount St. Helens With A Note Tucked In The Back Of One Of His Cupboards
Numismatist here: absolutely do NOT polish old coins with volcanic ash. That will definitely make them worthless.
I'm not sure that "shining dentures" is a good idea either
Load More Replies...was there when this happened. it may have not been mt. vesuvius but it was pretty scary. was in the process of moving to the coast and i couldn't pack fast enough. ash kept clogging the air filters of cars. but, it was kind of fascinating at the same time, seeing nature do it's thing. really nailed the point that the planet is a living entity and we need to be respectful and aware.
I have some beautiful glass ornaments made from the ash from Mt. St. Helens. Flying over what once was so many years and then seeing it gone was so weird. I flew in helicopter out to the first puking of the volcano that erupted for months after I left was amazing as well. Thermal pockets kept pulling the helicopter down was spooky. I was showing a kid on my flight back to San Diego thinking I'd impress him. He was like, yeah so, great, and went back to his game boy or whatever gadget was more interesting than lava barf.
There was a photographer on Mt St Helen's the day it blew. Everyone had evacuated. Ash was everywhere and he realized there was no way he could outrun the massive amount of stuff headed down the mountain like a flash flood. He hunkered down and wrapped his camera up and covered it with his body to try and protect the film. He saw the initial eruption and what no one else could ever see what he saw. He was killed but somehow his camera survived. The photos he took are nothing short of miracle. I'm sorry I can't remember his name. I'm sure google can find.

My husband still remembers, very un-fondly, shoveling ash six inches deep off his mom's roof in Vancouver, Washington (just across the river from Portland). That volcano put out a LOT of ash.

Every year on New Year's Day she would transfer last year's calendar to this year's. It's fascinating to look back on.
My dad recently found his old diaries from the '80s-90s, read them to himself, and then threw them out! I would have loved to read them myself, as I'm sure they would have mentioned things like the date of my eye surgeries. I'm hoping mum has hers some where.

My Grandpa Gave Me A $2 From 1953
Years ago on a trip to the US we got a two dollar note. We weren't sure if they existed so we paid with it asap just in case :-)
what?! You should have kept it! Even for me ( somone who lives in the US) those are super rare!!!!!!!!
Load More Replies...I looked this one up. Sadly, the one OP has is only worth 9$ according to https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/red-seal-two-dollar-bill-4782928 as It is 1953 A and has no visable star. It would be classified as "very fine" due to the visable use. Still a rare treasure I would py more than 9$ to get my hands on!
My grandfather used to give us $2 bills for birthdays, etc. Our mom always said we should save them, because they're rare, but being kids who only got 50 cents a week allowance, of course we spent them. (He passed when my sister and I were 12 and 13, so by by the time we had the maturity level to save them, we weren't getting them any more.) Still, I think about him whenever I come across a $2 bill.
That should be a "Silver Certificate". While technically not worth more than 2 dollars, collectors are looking for those.
A bit more, actually, since it will have stayed constant with the value of silver at the time it was printed.

Oldest Door In Switzerland, ~5000 Years Old, Found In 2010 In Zurich
Have you never seen a horror movie? There's obviously a trapped evil demigod in there. Do not let him out!
Load More Replies...Archaeologists have found a "fantastically preserved" 5100-year-old door in the Swiss city of Zurich. The door could have been made in the year 3063 BC, chief archaeologist Niels Bleicher said. The find is one of the oldest doors ever found in Europe and remarkable "because of the way the planks were held together", Mr Bleicher said. The find was made at a dig preceding the construction of an underground car park for Zurich's opera house. The door, which is 153cm (5ft) high and 88cm wide, was among the traces of at least five Neolithic villages believed to have existed at the site. It is made of poplar wood and "solid and elegant" with well-preserved hinges, Mr Bleicher said. The door would have been part of a wooden stilt house designed to keep out the cold winds blowing across Lake Zurich, the archaeologist added. "It's a clever design that even looks good," he said. The archaeologists plan to exhibit the door once it has been carefully removed from the ground and soaked in a

there could be another reason too, like a fire... since the '70s and 80s pictures are not safekeeped in the cloud.
Load More Replies...Damn, that hits hard. Hurts to hear of so many people that have little to no pictures of themselves as kids. I've been deemed the family memory keeper (only child, so it kind of fell to me by default). I have a box full of unsorted pictures and "only" 1 hour of videos, all silent color clips from the 60s-70s we had converted to VHS and now need to go onto a DVD for safe-keeping. I spent hours making a soundtrack a friend burned onto a CD for me, it's been a whole project. Mum and I are the only ones left now. I send her .jpgs of some of the pics now and then and she's delighted to see them again. It gets her talking about the old days. I weep for today's kids who will only exist years from now in filtered Instagram pics looking like dogs or something. Take some REAL pictures of your family and friends, even if they're never shared online. You'll treasure them in your old age, trust me.
Reminds me of the treasure I found in the chest of drawers I've had since I was a baby. The top drawer never quite closed all the way, but that's the way it had always been, so I disregarded it. Then when I pulled the whole drawer out to more easily organize what was in it... I discovered a TINY pink hand-knit sweater that my Oma had knitted me for when I was a baby - jammed in behind the drawer. So precious, as she's been gone for quite some time and I think my mother passed on most of my baby clothes. We carefully put it away in a ziplock baggy to preserve it.
Most children's passports were on a parent's passport. May be more to this.

That's exactly what the cost should be today. 100% of the equipment used for your birth was used for 1000 births before yours and will be used for 1000 after. The same is true about most medical equipment. They just simply put it through a washing machine or a dishwasher and it's good to go.

My Very First Find! And Kind Of Funny Because My Brother Lost This 25+ Years Ago
My mom had a set of marbles, when she was a little girl, that her sister (my aunt) buried in their yard, playing "pirate treasure". My aunt then forgot where she buried them, and the marbles were lost. (Yeah, Mom lost her marbles, LOL!) My mom and her siblings grew up very poor, and they didn't have many toys. So this loss made her very sad, as well as angry at my aunt, for a while. They eventually got over it, of course, and her family always was, and still is, very close. But I've never forgotten that story. And when I was a little girl, and we visited Grandma, I'd often dig around in her yard (not big holes, or anything, lol, mostly in pawing around in bare patches around the trees, and in the dirt under her porch), hoping I might one day find those marbles for my mother. Unfortunately, I never did. But it's a nice, if somewhat bittersweet, memory, for me.

Of course it's good, it's matured, like Grandma!

That's the year I found 1952 gravy browning in mum's larder. They had moved at least 6 times since the early 60s, with mum doing all the packing (woman's work) whilst working full time and then being a mum as well.
It certainly wouldn't be harmful (unless mold had grown inside), but it probably wouldn't taste like much of anything.
I Bet It Tastes Great
So is that the real reason the dinosaurs disappeared, they drank too much Coke?!
Load More Replies...An ancient Coke is better than just about any beverage (As I type this I am drinking my delicious Mexican Coca-Cola with REAL sugar and a glass bottle LOL).
Osmanthus coke tastes the same as I remember… but where are those who share the memory?

I was thinking that. There might even be photos alongside names.

I Was Cleaning Out The Closet In My Classroom And Found 50 Year Old Teaching Posters!
I kinda think we should make "ads" out of some of these and use them with apps that are geared toward children.
Teachers never throw anything away. And those are actually still relevant.
I have (I hope still) a stack of my grandfather's old chalk teaching stencils. They were large sheets with perforations that made a design. You stuck them on the chalk board, traced them in chalk, then when you took them off you joined the dots to make the image, for example Australian maps.
But it’s wrong. Homonyms are words with the same spelling and sound. Homophones sound the same but are spelled different, while homographs are spelled the same but have different pronunciations. The fact that iPhone autocorrect tried to change all of them while typing this probably says something..
Imagine if native language classes (english in us, uk, nz etc) taught grammar, homonyms etc rather than jumping straight from spelling and free reading to literature study
I really like these. Do American children today learn about homonyms and synonyms? Because growing up in the UK, I didn't hear the word homonym until after leaving school. I think I'd have remembered, because I'm fascinated by language.
Found This Under A Picture Today! 7/21/69
I wasn't able to find out how that specific voyage went, but the November timeframe coincides with a festival celebrating an ancient trade connection between the people of Cuttack and the people of Bali. More info about that here: https://www.hindustantimes.com/art-and-culture/baliyatra-the-little-known-connection-between-india-and-indonesia/story-pEv8JbhcTTWzjYfSJ7CUSP.html

"Found in supposedly empty equipment". And yet it must have happened often if they had a whole ass stamper for it.
At this very moment, I'm looking at the machine that cancelled this letter. "PM 5" in Buffalo, NY.
Cleaning Out Cd’s. Damn I’m Old
I remember I was taking those free trial CDs from the supermarket, because it was the best way to keep my PC up to date without internet (they usually included Windows Media Player, Internet explorer, Real Player, Flash, etc.)
Idk why but I always loved the Musicmatch Jukebox that was installed on the PC more. It was not the preferred method for most but I thought the skins, visualizations, and settings were better for a long time. I had a lot of fun with mine. It was my go to meditating, chill, and relax in the evenings choice back in 99-2000+

I Found A Citibank Charge Card Buried In My Yard That Expired In 1979
What's a "charge card"? I looked up on Wikipedia but it's not helping
The difference between a charge card and a credit card was that charge cards were expected to be paid in full monthly while credit cards allow you to carry a balance and pay more than the item is worth via interest.

When I was a kid I had some little toy mice I loved to play with. I came to live with my dad when I was 12 I packed the mice up in the pocket of an old red plastic suitcase I had 3 of these suit cases When I got to my dads I couldn’t find the mice ! I looked for these mice for years ! My dad died when I was 29! I was cleaning out the attic of his house and I found a red plastic suit case I opened it up and the pocket looked fat but I knew not to get my hopes up. I opened it up and sure enough my mice were there just like I left them ! I still have them :)
Like a little shout out from kid you to grown up you. I love it!

We still HAVE of Beetle. 1964 . Bought new and continuous registration though they made us change the number plate when we moved States, It now has "historic registration" as we wanted to keep it 'original' :-) Lovely cars :-)

The small theater I'm doing a play with has this thing where the cast of the play will sign the walls of the backstage with their name, play, and date. The oldest signature I found was from 1972!
I currently have a gas receipt for about $100. It will be cool to rediscover in a few decades
