35 Times Bosses Wrote Such Delusional Notes, These Employees Just Had To Shame Them Online (New Pics)
I’m sure being a great boss isn’t easy. Managing a whole team of employees while attempting to keep morale high and turnover rates low could be stressful for even the coolest of cucumbers. But keeping your team from hating you shouldn't require winning any awards for being the World's Best Boss. Just refrain from posting passive-aggressive signs in the workplace, and you should be okay...
Below, we’ve gathered photos of some of the most infuriating and insulting messages bosses have posted for their employees that have later ended up on Reddit. We’ll warn you right now, pandas, that scrolling through this list might make your blood boil, so be sure to upvote the messages you find most egregious. Keep reading to also find a conversation we were lucky enough to have with career coach Sarah Archer, and if you ever find yourself in charge of employees, remember these examples of what not to do!

If this is in the US, that is an OSHA violation and you have it in writing.
Water fights? Communal showers? Indoor kayak races? The mind boggles.
Load More Replies...Since the "we" in the second sentence must refer to the author of this statement, that sentence says that management has abused its privilege in doing so. I'm sure that's accurate. Management often abuses its privileges by withholding things from employees. Here is just another case.
Reads as "the management is not providing water because the management abused their privilege by providing water", WTF does that even mean?
So of course this is not okay... But the first thing I thought of when I read it was the fact that my work provides water during the summer and every morning we come in there are water bottles everywhere. Instead of refilling them with our cold water fountain, they just grab more bottles and then continue to make them everybody else's problem. But that's the only time I could see this being relevant.
To gain more insight on why it's so common for bosses to leave these terrible messages, we reached out to London-based career coach and founder of CareerTree Coaching, Sarah Archer, who was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda.
"In my experience, these kind of messages are becoming less common as employers become more conscious about wellbeing," Sarah noted. "However, when they do happen it’s usually managers who essentially don’t know how to manage! Often employees can be promoted into managerial roles without the necessary skills and experience. And if they are then not trained or supported this kind of practice can emerge."
You Could Say There Are Perks
That's why the artist taped it to the wall and sold it for lots of money!?..

You made me spit out my water! That's probably water abuse. Great! Now I'm in trouble.
Load More Replies...This would be alright if it was an everyday thing. But no, it's just one day, for God's sake!
I worked in hospitals for over 20 years on the night shift (7p-7a) and they would announce that they were doing things like this for the staff. Usually what the night shift got was the leftovers from day shift.
We also asked the career expert what kind of impact these messages can have on a workplace. "[They] often have the opposite effect to what the manager wants," Sarah says. "People generally are not motivated to perform well, adhere to rules, etc. by being humiliated or threatened. They tend to result in feelings of anger, resentment or fear, which will not increase productivity, result in higher levels of absence or higher turnover of staff."
Thankfully, however, Sarah says that there are plenty of fantastic ways to engage and communicate with employees that managers can use instead of these hostile messages. "Firstly, it would be about treating them as adults and showing respect! If as a manager you’ve got a difficult message to communicate, then it needs to be face-to-face and with compassion."

I don't have a car, so I guess you can lock my asthma inhaler in your office. I'm sure it will be fine.
Well this is ridiculous. Hope they don't have employees who; have periods, have asthma, have allergies, have diabetes, have a life.
Nah you can easily hide things on your person, job like this your most likely need weed and/or nicotine just to be able to bear work, my trick, keep it in your bra
Load More Replies...Sure, I'll work naked, but it'll take longer since I had to leave my glasses in the car.
So anything stolen out of the car will be replaced by the company due to this “policy?”
Sarah also shared some advice for anyone who finds themselves in a work environment where higher ups post messages such as this. "First, recognize that this is not acceptable behavior from the employer (who is vicariously liable for the actions of their manager), so feel empowered to call this out. No one should have to be subjected to insulting messages from their manager, and there are laws and policies in place to protect employees. They should seek advice from the HR department if there is one, or from a staff representative or trade union."

Job Called Me In. First Day And I Found This. The Wall Of Fame Had Nothing On It. There Were Many Other Notes Basically S***ting On Everyone. Left 30 Minutes Into The Shift… No Regret
My daughter's teacher posted a "wall of shame" in her classroom. I pointed out to the school that violated the FERPA laws, since she was publicly displaying educational record. I hope they stopped it. Unfortunately, workplaces don't have privacy regulations.

Awful. Why blame the employees if the sheets are dirty? Is that their job?
Well, sort of, but not really. For example, at my motel, there was a major road construction going on down the street, and most of the workers were staying with us. They would come back and ruin bedsheets and towels with tar that we simply did not have the resources to get out. I tried to alert management to the problem and suggest solutions, but it fell on deaf ears until it became a crisis.

What is it about respecting employees that some bosses find so difficult to do? It feels like every day there’s another story going viral of a toxic employer who’s treating their workers horribly, and as the photos on this list go to show, there are plenty of bosses out there who continue to get away with it year after year. According to a survey from GoodHire of 3,000 Americans with full-time employment, managers as a whole are failing miserably. Only 39% of workers said that their managers are open and honest about promotion opportunities, and only 44% consider their supervisors to be transparent and honest during conversations about salary and compensation.
Less than a third of these workers say that their managers actually care about their employees’ career progression, and less than half believe that their superiors respect their personal time away from work. According to those surveyed, the most annoying things bosses do are micromanage workers and request that they work outside of their regular hours. But 82% of American workers say they would quit a job where they had a bad manager, so this treatment of workers clearly isn’t sustainable.
So This Is The Sign Posted On The Bathroom Door At Work Today
This establishment must have no female employees or if they do, have no concept of the extra steps they need to get the job done. Untuck this, tuck that, tights, bodysuits, monthly cycles, etc. Hell, it can take longer than that to locate the seam on the TP, and if they have the cheap stuff that's not strong enough to not tear from the weight of it, women don't stand a chance.
Um, with my IBS, 3 minutes is not viable. Employers have to be reasonable with everyone and every condition.
Yeah my employer came at me about my bathroom time. I explained that I have IBS and that the most common accommodation is that I am to clock out for any #2. I get that, I have days that I spend enough time in there that it's fair to the employer to not pay me that time. Their solution was that any bathroom time went against my lunch break. Thankfully that was illegal. They had to honor the ADA most frequent accommodations. I guess if one of those fit theyhave to use that unless the employee agrees to something else. They can't force an alternate accommodation
Load More Replies...what if an employee is on their period though? 3 minutes isn’t enough
Now I wonder if they employ someone to time employees in the bathroom. And yank them out if they take too long.
Searched before going in and stop watch started when you enter bathroom... work=jail 🙈
While the time limit is not enough I can understand the no cellphone thing. We used to have a guy who would literally take a novel with him and vanish into the loo for half an hour each time. So he basically got paid to sit in the toilet cubical and read for an hour a day.

Corporate humor, right!? Humor is such a personal thing, I for example do not find this funny at all!

Always check all information available before accusing "horrible" others. If I was management and would be accused on SM of treating my employees badly, with evidence falsified by employees by this kind of joke, the respective employee could expect a serious chat and in Germany woukd be sacked. Place it at your workpace if you think this is funny, but be very careful with accusing others just because of an image pisted on social media.
i worked for a company that had these policies. i got in a bad car accident ( not my fault) and was written up for being taken to the hospital instead of working. my vehicle was totaled, 3 cracked ribs, a bad concussion. almost got fired.
This has to be satirical. Looks like something you could get at a gift shop.
It's not, don't worry. At the bottom, it says "Signs 4 Fun" So it isn't real. I was afraid it was too.
Load More Replies...I really hope this is satire. I have worked thrift stores for years and see something like this come in.
Surveys such as this raise the question of whether or not employees actually quit or if their bosses drive them to it. How are they supposed to feel satisfied, appreciated and optimistic about their futures when they’re told they’re not allowed to have water or take any breaks during the day? Apparently, most employees find themselves annoyed by their managers at least one day per week, and 84% of American workers feel their managers are redundant, reporting that they believe they could fill the role themselves. In fact, 89% of hospitality workers say they’re even more qualified than their superiors to do their jobs.
Aside from all of the small annoyances and frustrations employees have about their bosses, the vast majority of workers actually consider their employers to be toxic. One survey from Monster found that 76% of American workers say they have a toxic boss, and many of them describe their employers as power-hungry, micromanagers, incompetent or simply never around. A very small minority, 5% of workers, report that they’re actually great friends with their bosses, but clearly, there’s a problem in the American workplace. And considering how much material we have for lists such as this, I would say that there are plenty of toxic bosses out there.

My mom got fired for this in the late 50s. Working a conveyer belt in a vegetable cannery. Pregnant with me. You stand the whole time. Nope. Absolutely illegal. Tips are compensation. You can't withhold a week's compensation.
Load More Replies...You don't need your phone while working. It's a new phenomenon. You can keep it on vibrate in case an emergency arises. Simple. There was likely a problem to warrant a sign.
But if your spouse calls you during worktime, how are you supposed to know whether it is about the need for you to buy toilet paper on the way home, or if that was to tell you that your daughter was hit by a car, and is in the hospital, if you don't take the phone? Life does not go on pause, just because you are at your workplace, and having a way to contact you in case of an emergency is important.
Load More Replies...It's sad that it comes down to this I hate to say it but a lot of people that should be working are busy on their phones and not taking care of customers something needs to be done but I don't agree with the post
Y'all talking about losing the tips but what's wrong with the "no phone" rule?
Not legal at all! Take a picture of it, consult a lawyer and have said lawyer contact manager. Explaining that if this is done, you will be contacting his boss and explaining this situation and how it violates certain laws, and that from this point on, a suit will follow. If you are fired or let go, in retaliation, wrongful termination suit will be filed against the company and the manager!
There is absolutely no need to be on a private phone during work. If there is an emergency (kids etc), they can call the business number. It's crazy how attached people are to their phones. Work time is not private time. You sold that time to the company.
Speak for yourself. At my workplace we are expected to have our phone in case management needs to contact us on night shift. Nobody is sitting around playing on their phone

What about those emergencies that happens to all of us from time to time, and where you have to act on a very short notice?
Load More Replies...When defining what makes a toxic workplace, employees describe it as being disrespectful, abusive, non-inclusive, unethical or cutthroat. Women are more likely to report toxic experiences at work than men, and white workers report having an easier time moving on from toxic employment than employees of color. And if you’re a manager or boss who’s wondering if you fall under the umbrella of toxic leaders, Kathryn Minshew wrote a piece for Yahoo! Finance breaking down some of the signs you might want to look out for in yourself. First, consider whether or not you always speak first. Toxic managers tend to “stay within their own brain bubble” and fail to give others a chance to share their thoughts and ideas.

Employees Need A Doctor's Note To Eat At Work
Guess it would be pretty easy to get a doctor'a note stating that as a human being you actually do need to eat ;)
Depending on your shift, free breakfast/lunch/dinner has ALWAYS been a perk of working in a restaurant. Like one of the unspoken but understood agreements. You’re surrounded by food. Restaurants generally cook more than they sell—-and throw that excess away. Why not feed their employees with it instead? It’s cruel to tell the very people who do way more to make the restaurant profitable than the f*****g management ever does that they can’t eat some of the food they’ve been selling, prepping, cooking, serving, seeing, and smelling for 8 hours. Imagine being hungry and working around all that food. Some restaurant employees are college students living on very little, and that meal at work may be better than they can afford and will save them a couple bucks a day in groceries. F**k this greedy, selfish, and cruel restaurant boss.
While I agree with you in principle you don't know what prompted the message. They were obviously providing some sort of meals to staff then something happened they weren't happy with. Maybe it was employees abusing the privilege and instead of just eating a meal they were making a week's worth and taking it home. Or deliberately making mistakes on orders so there'd be something they wanted to eat. Or maybe they were just slacking and wasting too much time. I will say too, that it could be that the boss is overreacting badly and the staff don't deserve the treatment. But neither of us know for sure.
Load More Replies...Doctor note: It is highly recomended that people eat and drink at least once a day. Dr. Feelgood.
Where is this "restaurant"? I worked in many and every one provided a fee meal per shift. In one place a new owner tried to change the rule only to be put in his place by a very angry chef who threatened to leave and take all the staff with her.
They aren't required to give you a meal break in the US unless your state says different. And they can absolutely say no outside foodon site. It isn't right, but it's 100% legal
Load More Replies...I'm guessing the back story involves significant abuse of the privelege.
Minshew goes on to note that you might be contributing to toxic leadership if you find yourself constantly checking in with your team. Micromanaging can make employees feel suffocated and assume that you don’t trust them. Communicate deadlines clearly and keep your employees accountable, but don’t breathe down their necks. It can also be frustrating for employees to be stuck doing the same very specific tasks day in and day out. This can stifle creativity and eliminate any chances to grow and improve. Great managers think of new ideas often and keep an open mind to how their teams can move forward.

It’s also an incredibly toxic trait if you, as a manager, feel the need to put your employees in their place. You may be in a leadership position, but you’re all adults. Having a higher salary or being the one to delegate tasks does not make you any better than them. Never take out anger on employees, speak to them in a condescending manner or project your own insecurities onto them. If you want your team to respect you, it’s crucial that you treat them as equals and afford them the same respect.
A Note And Bonus Math Lesson From My Manager. My Addition To The Sign Was Not Appreciated
I think Manager is just smart enough to remember how many degrees are in a circle, and too dumb to know how many days are in a year.
Load More Replies...Me: So “Boss”, this applies to all of us, right? “Boss”: Yes. Me: Well then, on the average you take at least 3 coffee breaks every morning, an extra hour for lunch every day, plus you leave an hour early every Friday. That’s 8.5 hours every week that YOU are not at your desk working. A half hour more than a full workday. 8.5 x 52 = 442 hours every year that YOU are NOT working. Divided by 40 for the full time work week, that’s 11.05 WEEKS every year that YOU are stealing from the company, yet you get paid full time for 52 weeks. Makes the lower level employees’ 72 hours look like nothing. Don’t you agree? (Yeah, they f*****g HATE it when you turn their idiotic rules around on them. Last Summer, the AC went out in our store for weeks in the Deep, humid US South. Rhymes with "Hollar General." At one point, we recorded a temperature in-store of 115°F. Our District Manager's solution? "If it's hotter inside than outside, just prop the door open!" Why don't you come down here and prop the door open yourself, Derek! Corporate's response was to email us a flyer to print about the importance of staying hydrated. A Thank You Note From My Job To My Husband For My Mandatory Overtime

Honestly, I see this as a very kind gesture. One derived solely from gratitude and appreciation. Perhaps it could have been worded a bit better but any gesture of appreciation is soooo much more than many others get.
I got one of those once, but it came with a $200 gift card to a SUPER fancy restaurant. That was kinda nice, have to admit
Overtime is paid at 150% of the normal rate, so this is not in lieu of a bonus. The wording is a little odd, but the sentiment is kind; someone in management was actually feeling a little grateful and wanted to express that fact. Given that it's the "patient experience" office, this probably even had something to do with covid-19.

I never, ever, ever give to charity in shops. They'll donate as if it's their money, and get a tax deduction. With my money. Not a chance in hell.
Is this a store where the customers have an option to donate to a charity the store supports? If so they I guess the "Not optional" part means you need to ask every customer if they'd like to donate to that charity. Woolworths supermarket has started doing that. But most times the cashier doesn't ask (not sure whether it's mandatory for them to do so or not).

ALWAYS.
This entire note sounds like a random train of thought - there's absolutely no cohesion and that incomplete sentence makes me want to scream.
It’s always best to take the high road when your employer stoops down to the passive-aggressive route. Remember that their behavior doesn’t actually have anything to do with you, as it stems from stress, insecurities, their upbringing or something else out of your control, so try not to take it personally. It can also be helpful to over-communicate with a passive-aggressive boss to ensure that there are no misunderstandings. Put everything in writing, keep paper trails, and make sure that you’re always on the same page.
I Got Back To Work After Being Very Sick And Found My Wall Calendar Hidden In My Desk With This Note. I Am Pissed
Oh? turn up to work every day with a bright rainbow calendar with unicorns and glow in the dark writing so it glows when they turn the lights off that says ' f homophobes ', that'll be more work-appropriate
A t-shirt that says only queer in the office should shut them up
Load More Replies...Again: politics and religion are personal choices. Sexuality is not. Don't equate them.
This. But also, hijabs and crosses and other such commonly worn religious items should also not be an issue. It's when people (regardless of religion or politics) make religion or politics constantly into arguments ("there's only one way of thinking" or "that's wrong because I think it is, usually based off of incorrect fear-mongering")
Load More Replies...Honestly I would rather that everyone leave their political and personal agendas at home, religion, politics, and sexual preferences are triggers for arguing and fighting. It's bad for everyone.
Oh no, not a rainbow calendar of people who exist. Shall we also not bring in female hero calendars too, because we can't possibly know that women can do things? Someone's personal space isn't forcing it on anyone. No one is forcing any other coworker to look at their personal calendar. Don't get me wrong, definitely leave your biases at home if you can't do your work and have to badger everyone with it, but you have to also be understanding that other people have their own thoughts ideas and lives outside of work. Sexual preferences is a very slippery slope argument there. People are allowed to post their family photos in their own space, yes? Talk about their families when and where appropriate, yes? And what about people who wear hijabs or crosses? They can't work with you either?

What A Day To Know How To Read
If you cant afford to pay workers a proper wage then dont open a restaurant
the hell? how about you pay your workers properly? It's a bit hypocritical to call the customer's ' cheap a*s ' when the management also is.
If you can't afford to pay your staff you probably shouldn't own a business.
Waiters and bartenders make more than minimum wage. It's the best kept secret.
Load More Replies...I agree with this sign. In USA tipping is the custom. If you can't afford to pay the tip, you can't afford to go out to eat. If you don't want to abide by that, that's fine, but everyone knows you are a disgusting piece of s**t person because of how you behaved.
Yes! It's part of our culture and it's sooo American. Work hard =more money. Want to slack and go home early=less money. No judgment. Most of my peers at the Chicago restaraunts I worked at in my 20's were actors and artists. Not only did we make more than minimum wage, but we had the flexibility to pursue other interests outside work.
Load More Replies...Interestingly enough, this system keeps the prices on the menu itself low. Whereas in by example the Netherlands many overseas tourists are shocked that everything is expensive and not realizing they might pay less in total in comparison. As said many times here on BP: In Europe tips are left as an ptional extra "thank you". 10% are totally okay.
Also, the tipping culture is great for flexibility.Managers let servers leave early if it's slow and it benefits everyone. I was a bit of a "party girl" in my 20s and if I came in tired I could always find someone who needed extra cash and switch roles. I'd go home early and sleep and that person stayed later and went home with a few hundred. Never could happen If I was working minimum wage at Target.
Load More Replies...Oddly, this is probably a business that actually pays their staff well. The owners at my place do right by us, but will also empathize about regulars who don't tip. Sure, it's a thing that shouldn't be a thing, but at least they're saying explicitly what all industry folk say when cheap jerks have a $40 groupon, and leave nothing.
Actually it probably isn't. There are a few that do pay their staff well. And a few that pay so well they actually tell customers it's not required to tip. That's how you know a restaurant is paying their staff properly. for example: https://scoop.upworthy.com/no-tipping-restaurant-praised-for-creating-tip-free-model-by-paying-a-living-wage-benefits-557969-557969

I would have had to move in with my mother if I worked for minimum wage. This was Lincoln Park Chicago(Very expensive).
Right there with you lady. I work in Chicago too. Working at a rooftop bar in the summer I made crazy money. It was hard work and no one has time for cheapskates. You don't want to honor the tipping custom? Get the frack out of my bar. Trust me, you want to get offended and complain on the Internet? Bring it. No one cares. You'd have better luck screaming into the wind. And when I travel out of the country I always tip 20%. Why? Bc it's the nice thing to do. Is giving an extra $5 gonna ruin your life? Bc that $5 means a lot to a server. I'd rather leave a place where both i AND the server are smiling.

My department is getting a new manager on Monday. I hope he doesn't pull something like this. There's already dissension in the troops. Long story.
If a toxic or passive-aggressive boss is starting to really take a toll on you, don’t be afraid to speak up. Whether that means having a conversation with HR or expressing your concerns directly to your superior, it can be important for your own mental health to seek a solution to these problems. Going into work stressed and anxious every day, unsure of how your manager will treat you, is not healthy. Request a meeting with your boss or HR representative to share how you’re feeling, and work together to find a solution. And if common ground cannot be found, it may be time to move on.

It's not. Management can be incredibly stupid. NAME AND SHAME, FOLKS!!!!

No, it absolutely will not. Again, this is the cost of business! Stop passing these asinine issues to the employees! This is your business and you take responsibility for this stuff! Otherwise, we must only assume a full investigation will be conducted, witnesses, interviews, crime scene assessment, product autopsy, statements, etc
OK… as bad as this might sound, I’m not necessarily in disagreement. HEAR ME OUT… I teach high schoolers, who returned to school after COVID, almost feral (obviously, not all of them… but a LOT of them). They INTENTIONALLY cause damage (remember last year’s TikTok bathroom challenge? Sinks busted off walls, soap dispensers ripped off walls. We had $30K in damage to just one bathroom). They’d ask for a pencil and instead of returning it… they’d snap it in two and throw the pieces on the floor. Sooo… what if you have immature employees breaking the ice cream machine, so they don’t have to make a shake? You could fire them if you have evidence… if corporate lets you. But maybe a note like this will save you from having to take it that far? Maybe. I’m just saying I could see a frustrated manager writing something like this.
You teach in my school? We had the same stuff happening. Feral yes. Its due to parents actually working for a living, no adult supervision for extended periods of time, no personal responsibility being taught and these "children" are being raised by tiktok and youtube. It is so sad. I know the world is going to kick these kids straight in the face and they are SO unprepared.
Load More Replies...Work Wants To Charge Us 0.50 Cents Per Shift For Our Tips Or Have Us Wait 2 Weeks. Wtf!
For those wondering… KickFin is a service provider that instantly tracks employee tips and pays them directly into their bank accounts, where they have immediate access to them. By contrast, an employer doesn’t have to wait until a manager counts them out or closes things out for the night in order to be handed their tips. In the service industry, sometimes you have to wait until after your shift or until the next day to see your tips. This service eliminates that wait. BUT… it also cuts down on management time, hence saving the company money. It cuts down on management errors… so, no accidental over/under payments (no arguing over under payments, where a manager is double checking the books… resulting in even more company time). Bottom line… it saves the company money. So, to make employees pay for it is really despicable!!
Thanks for the explanation. In the industry, is it normal for the company to pay the $.50 charge?
Load More Replies...I always tip cash, directly to the server and a little on the table for the others.
Load More Replies...That is not too bad, only .50 a shift. I worked at a place where the business passed the credit card processing fee onto the server. This Childish Sign
This sounds harsh in the way they yell it, but it's also basic work etiquette for a busy restaurant. I've worked places with people who have no interest in working where they sit around and ignore customers and the work piles up. Most of these are awful, but this is basic "have you ever had a job before?" c**p.
I agree. It comes across as severe and it could have sounded better, but they're just listing basic work rules...except for the cogrigating part. I'm not touching that.
Load More Replies...In other words. Don't act like an entitled teen. Work when at work. So they misspelled a word. It's sad that they have to tell people what is a proper way to behave in a work environment. Grow up people!
Aside from the dummy spelling and grammar, what is wrong with this? Seems reasonable for a restaurant or other workplace that doesn't require collaboration.
Nothing wrong with this. Do you not get annoyed when you see a bunch of workers standing around when you need something? No one on this thread would think"Oh yeah,I'm so glad the workers are enjoying themselves" when you need another round of drinks or the bill. I'm Gen X so the obsession with the phone is lost on me.Why can't someone go a few hours w/o their phone? Are they really that important?
Which employee is being referred to as "The Bar POS" and why are they so down on them?
Well that's fine boss. I can assure you I most decidedly will not congrigate.
I don't care if that guy in the bar really is a pos. Stop using him!
If any of these photos remind you of your own boss, pandas, I urge you to get out of that toxic workplace as soon as possible! They're talking about payments, not orders. It seems people were careless and voided payments instead of running them properly, so people got their orders free. But still this is not the way to go. The right way is finding the people doing it, retrain them, if they are not more careful, give them a warning and show once more, and if they still don't get it gire them. But don't harass all your staff because some are stupid

Why Do The Lowest Paid Jobs Enforce The Most Draconian Rules? No Sitting For Cashiers At A Quick Mart
I worked at a large grocery store chain in the cash office. The cash office is out of view of customers and has no windows. My entire job was counting up money, checks, etc. and balancing the books. There was no chair and I was not allowed to sit all day - just stand in front of a computer. I never could understand why.
That was a terrible plan for two reasons: 1. Fatigue promotes errors (which is very very bad when handling money). 2. Expressing disrespect for employees promotes turnover which costs a company in lost expertise, training costs, and newbie errors. My sympathies for working for dumb employers.

Even though the poster is still slightly messed up, it says “personal conversations” not talking.

Chances are you will be too busy to use it anyway and if not you can be at a moments notice. Now if it said never use your phone that's one thing but it is a job and you are getting paid to do that job properly when you need to.
The three blackouts correspond to breakfast lunch and dinner rushes, so it makes perfect sense. A sign like this shouldn't be needed, but maybe they've had bad employees and this just makes the rule concrete so you can't complain if you get written up.

Came In To This Today
I hope they are getting paid for those 15 minutes prior to the shift. The US Dept of Labor would eat them alive otherwise.
Checking in with the supervisor daily sounds like something a parolee is required to do
This one, in comparison to the hellacious mess above, isn’t so bad. It’s ridiculous and micro-managing, yes, but at least when clocking in early, you get paid for it!
So, If I clock in when they request (15 minutes before) I'd be considered tardy as tardy is more or equal to 15 minutes!!
Well, no. It reads that you’re tardy if you clock in 15 minutes late. But I see what they’re doing. They want you to clock in 15 minutes early, so they can count you tardy if you’re 1 minute late, instead of 15. Let’s say you start at 3 PM. They want you clocked in at 2:45. If you clock in at 3:01, it’s now more than 15 minutes, so you’re tardy. I’m betting they pay employees in 15 minutes increments and/or they only get in trouble for a tardy at the 15 minute mark. And if I’m docked 15 minutes of pay by clocking in at 3:01… may as well grab a coffee and clock in at 3:14. Right? So, they THINK by forcing employees in early, it’ll combat this “problem.” But no matter what… if company policy says I’m late if I clock in 15 minutes beyond my START TIME… If I start at 3:00… I’m late at 3:15, not 3:01. I don’t care what their stupid paper says.
Load More Replies...I'm amused that they actually *want* employees clocking in 15 min early. I used to do that at one retail job, until they noticed and started whining about how I was basically getting "overtime pay" for clocking in early. I stopped clocking in early, they stopped whining.
0 unplanned absences equals extra PTO... that you'll never get to use. What a joke that place is.
It flat out doesn't say that. You can take unplanned leave as a PTO, less than three days don't need a doctors note. All you have to do is call in and say "sorry boss feeling crook". Holidays just need a month's notice. So you can take your time off there too.
Load More Replies...Nice of them to put in writing that they require 15 minutes of OT per shift.

Look at the last line. The poster basically says be healthy so you can work
Load More Replies...Random caps are weird. It should be *you're instead of *your. Dadgum it, a manager should know how to proofread.
At least they r providing snacks. Most other places seem to forbid eating regardless of where the food comes from
It's "you're," and you can't rhyme "all" with "all!" Otherwise, this isn't a bad thing, they are giving free snacks!
Did they try to write this in rhyme but rhyme "all" with "all" AND "day" with "day"???
I think it seems off because it is reminding you that you are expected to be on your feet all day and it supposes that adults need to be reminded like children to only take a little and not be greedy. It's not a note that says "We appreciate you and want you to have a great day." It says, "We think you are greedy children, but we don't want you to have hunger as an excuse to slack for even a moment on your shift."
Am I Losing It Or Is This Insane?
Wait, so even if it's an "excused" absence, you get in trouble? What the eff?!
When I worked for the government they didn't care if you had a note or not. If you didn't show up for work you would get in trouble.
Load More Replies...Um, then all absences do not need permission if I’m reading the right? 🤦🏽♀️
Yes, and no. Depends on if the person is trying to use paid time off for it, and it requires that. However, the way they wrote this, the employees probably are underpaid, don't get any paid time off, and they basically treat "excuses" as also being unexcused. I understand this stance for unexcused and a need for a warning at least if someone wakes up sick and won't be able to come in that day because of it, but considering excuses absences as a problem is definitely a sign of a toxic workplace.
Load More Replies...Hmmmm.... The best employee they could ever ask for gets into a car accident and is broken up beyond the ability to work for several weeks. Does this mean they lose their job too? Business may wanna re-think this policy.
Heck it doesn't even need to be that serious. Bad cold/flu and you're down more than 3 days a lot of the time. Either that or they're expecting you to bring it into the office and make everyone else sick.

In actuality, there's is obviously nothing legally binding, they have zero authority to do so, LET ALONE MAKE you sign it. Yeah retail, food, tourism, and entertainment don't get holidays off. The only people getting holidays off are like, office and government workers.
Load More Replies...If I am remembering correctly American companies set their own rules, most corporate jobs u will get most of the federal holidays, which are actually quite a few that not government jobs don't recognize (whatever Columbus day is called now, veterans day, MLK and now juneteenth (basically anyday u dont receive mail)), then some jobs that require staff everyday will pay extra time and a half or even double and triple time for people who work on recognized holidays, but other jobs like food service, hotel, gas stations non union care facilities will be like ur scheduled so ur working at ur regular rate. But technically the 4th of July is a "national" holiday but that just means it's a day off at the federal level but there is no requirement for private companies to give I that day off.
MOST states require extra pay on holidays for wage workers. Not all.
Rhode Island is the only state iknow that requires overtime pay on holidays and that just started this year

Only points legal are the ones that pertain to substance abuse and theft. Everything else is completely delusional.
I distinctly remember working at an Arby's as a kid who didn't know any better, where they had me sign a sheet saying if I didn't give notice of my quitting they wouldn't give me my last paycheck. Doubt they ever tried to enforce it, cause that would be monumentally stupid. But I've always been nice enough to give notice, even to places that didn't deserve it More for the coworkers to not be left hanging than management.
Totally illegal. This amounts to a contract. And for a contract to be valid, there has to be a benefit to both parties. So if the employer wants to make this official then go the opposite for each line. For example, $100 deduction for shifts you don't show up for means there is an implied $100 for those that you do. Etc.
In america that is not true. For there to be a valid contract there must be a "meeting of the minds" meaning that both parties are on the same page and reasonably understand the contract. Parties must also be of legal age to sign a contract. But they do not need to be mutually beneficial or a give and give equitable terms. Unfair contracts are regularly enforced in the courts because. Also if ever u are backed against the wall and basically forced in to signing a contract for whatever reason, after ur name (even on a check, or endorsement) u write the words "under duress" u can then fight to have that contract later nullified. And there is no legal requirement in the USA to give an employer any kind of notice of ur quitting, that is a courtesy u are giving ur employer.

Is this legal? Dude, look up what your rights are! If you don't have an employee handbook, states (united states) have labor laws that employers are required (at least in my state) to be posted in the employee break room or other common area. Sometimes you HAVE to grow up and look out for yourself!
So Basically Even If I Have A Doctor's Note, I Am Still Required To Find My Replacement? Is This Legal?
What if I told you that NOBODY working above minimum wage gets paid holidays? They just get their pay prorated over the holiday time. (After all, it's not like you can take the FIRST 28 days after you're hired off...)
Load More Replies...Holiday pay depends on the state or if you have a negotiated contract. You are not required to find a replacement worker. That is the duty of a manager, and the manager's salary reflects that. They want you to have the responsibilities of a manager without the monetary reward of being one. They can't have it both ways.
Last time I needed a "Doctor's Note" for something, my doctor wrote something to the effect of "Trust your employees when they say they're sick so they don't come to work and spread it to others. Please save doctors time for patients that have something more serious than the common cold." Followed by the cost of the note and a request to reimburse me for it. They never requested a note from anyone again.

Be nice. You will be nice until it is time to not be nice. Roadhouse.
This could have been presented a little bit better but they're not wrong: If you can't engage the public with a pleasant demeanor, you're not going to do well in hospitality, customer service, etc. It may even be 1 specific employee with an attitude problem but they don't want to give the appearance of targeting someone in specific so it becomes a guideline for everyone.
And they wonder why the staff looks miserable working there... I'm sure the management pays the staff at least $0.25 more than minimum wage, and probably shares at least half of the tip pool with the workers

Should not have to be a problem, if you have some kind of break-room/ break-corner with a coffee-machine, a kettle, some not too expensive cold drinks or even cooled water and a small fridge for food or drinks the employees could bring themselves.
Oh, anyway, the drinks that are served in restaurants cost normally not as much as they are being sold for. I would say, a happy employee makes much better service, which means more satisfied customers coming back and bringing their friends.

Don’t kill the messenger… but in the U.S., if it’s a right to work state… employers CAN reduce an employee’s wage (to no less than minimum wage), provided they’ve given the employee notice to do so. In #7, they are providing that notice. It sucks, but in a lot of states, it’s not illegal. By the same token… I feel like it only causes issues for the employer, because as an employee trying to avoid #7… I’d use vacation/sick days and/or call out sick until I collected my check with all my previous earnings on it… ensuring I got my full pay… then I’d quit on the spot.
Load More Replies...Some of them (#4) seem a little harsh, but the only one which seems illegal on this post (as opposed to the first several dozen posts) would be #7, and even that's only if I interpret it correctly.
Sorry, but I’m not going to the doctor for a stomach bug or a cold. Sheesh!
This Note Left By My Boss (And The Correction Left A Few Hours Later) At A Privately Owned Dmv In Minnesota
I have stapled things in the upper left my whole life. What kind of witchery is this?
If you actually go to the Reddit post… there’s a 2nd missing pic… it shows how the manager crossed out “right” and wrote “left” above it (hence the part of the title “and the correction left a few hours later”). 😂😂 When you accuse your employees of being defiant or stupid… but you’re really the stupid one. 😂😂
Load More Replies...Wait.... a PRIVATELY-OWNED Department of Motor Vehicles????? From the only state that never voted for Ronald Reagan (or any other Republican president in modern times)?
The correction… 🤣🤣🤣 https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating/comments/13btcj6/this_note_left_by_my_boss_and_the_correction_left/

For context: airline pilots were refusing vaccination, on the grounds it caused a LOT of people to suddenly black out, which the airline pilots thought was an unacceptable risk. So many thousands quit over the issue, that airlines were grounding flights by the hundreds in the rush up to Christmas. Tens of thousands more pilots were using phony sickness claims as a labor action in support of those that left their jobs. Turns out that the vaccines were never tested at all to see if they prevented transmission, and the blackout problem was real, but the pilots never got their jobs back.
Came In The Morning Before Thanksgiving At A Grocery Store To This Note From Our Gm. They Were Short Staffed From Cut Hours The Night Before. We Were Short Staffed Again Today. Thanksgiving Is The Busiest Day Of The Year For Grocery Stores. Next Time Just Say Thank You
How Do You Go From Requesting That We Be Soul-Less Worker Ants, To An Inspirational Speech? I Hate Ppl
I actually don't see anything wrong with this. Cleanliness is important, proper accounting is important, and you shouldn't be on Facebook, watching videos, or using ear buds if you perform customer service.
Yeah cleanliness is really important esp if there's food involved. Too many people act like safety and health rules are optional when social ones aren't. It's the reverse! Down with bans on tattoos or sitting; but please for the love of F$%# follow the safety and health rules so people don't DIE

Boss hands you this with no context. Whats your take? This is the second time this has happened. I'm in California. Medical and dental were the reason I switched to this job full time.
They cover 100% of it for me. We are a staff of 5 people. One of two full time, the other being the owners kid.
After speaking to them, its their way of showing the monetary value they put into me hourly ontop of my wage.
Forced To Use Pto For "Company Holidays"
It does. Instead of declaring the bottom 2days holidays, they are defining them as vacation days which means employees lose 2 PTO days unless employees intended to take those days off already. Employers can't dictate which days employees choose for their vacation.
Load More Replies...In the UK there are only 2 days of the year that legally shops of a certain size have to close and that is Christmas day and Easter Sunday and you had to either book the day off as part of your PTO or work another day in the same week. If you don't do either of this you take it off unpaid.
Lovely Notes My Sister’s Boss Leaves.i’ve Been Telling Her To Quit For 2 Yrs
I never understood the obsession anyone who has ever lived in Germany has with Haribo gummy bears. (I live in a part of the U.S.A. where a LOT of people lived in Germany for a few years while growing up.) They've been all over the U.S., also, for decades. Frankly, most vitamin pills taste better. They don't have a very accurate flavor, or a very strong one, so it's no wonder why most people don't seem to care for them. Except those that lived in Germany who lose their s**t over them. What addictive additive do they have?
Load More Replies...Somehow I feel that most of these are USA notes. Where I live most of this would be illegal and/or impossible. For example, our doctors do not give out notes for employers. If you're home sick you might be checked by the company doctor.
Free clue. Most of these are illegal in the US too.
Load More Replies...I worked in a nursing home and they stopped accepting doctors notes. You HAD to come in to see a nurse and the nurse (who would have to actually help the NAs if we were short and therefore had an incentive to say you were ok to work) got to decide if you were ok to work. A girl passed out one day after being to told by a nurse she was ok to work (9 hr shift, no sitting down allowed) and they still kept doing it.
If they treat the staff like that, how do they treat the residents?
Load More Replies...I honestly had to stop after just a few of these because it triggered flashbacks to horrifying anxiety and even full-on panic attacks caused by overwhelmingly toxic work environments. So many jobs where I wish I'd rage quit by putting an M60 into the electrical box and lit it before calmly walking to my car and driving away forever. (Note: I have not nor would I ever actually do so, but it's nice to fantasize.)
I bet these are the same managers/ owners that complain that nobody wants to work these days.
And then demand more illegal immigration from their government officials to solve the problem.
Load More Replies...Unions stop this kind of BS. Along with OSHA and other state and federal laws.
In the US? Nah. These corporate motherf*ckers OWN us, and they make sure the fascist cop watchdogs immediately smash anyone who displays true disobedience. This kind of bullsh*t is de rigueur in the US of A. I'm just glad that my current bosses are genuinely NOT like this, because SO many in the past were. Think about it this way: if you steal $5 out of your employer's cash drawer, that is *criminal theft, * which can result in jail time. If your employer fails to pay you thousands of dollars in overtime (or any other pay you are legitimately owed), they may have fines levied against them, but they can NEVER go to jail, because WAGE THEFT IS NOT A CRIMINAL OFFENSE. It is a civil offense. That should tell you all you need to know about who's in charge here.
Load More Replies...As a medical doctor, I can tell you right now that when someone has to drive you to the doctor, no, you can't go to work. And shouldn't. Working while sick makes others sick, slows your healing, and if the boss doesn't like it, call a lawyer (US) or make a stink in the media. Media pressure is, in my experience, more successful than a lawsuit. You can get out-sued, but it's hard to out-media the "bad impression". :-)
I get a vibe that some of these are real, but I'm starting to feel like "name, or it didn't happen." Seriously, you walked out of a job because of a mean-spirited, hate-filled, ENTIRELY ILLEGAL policy that was publicly posted, so you could get a camera shot, and YOU DIDN'T NAME THE ABUSER? To be clear: I absolutely believe that there are bosses who could be stupid and cruel enough to enact these policies. I suppose some of them may just be stupid enough to actually post these policies. So BURY them!!!!
None of these were that far out of the norm in the US. Especially for service or retail work of any kind. In fact most of it is considered horrible, but standard.
Load More Replies...Almost all of these posts: Wouldn't it be some much better if these bosses actually sat down with the employees and told them what the issue was? Why they can't use their phones while standing behind the counter, what the reason is why they are sick so often and why absence is such a challenge for your colleagues and he business etc. This looks all too often like the absent-boss syndrome.
