    I hardly ever walk by roses without having a sniff. It is one of the pleasures that cost nothing and is not harmful in any way.

    That’s what Erik, the Phantom of the Opera, did in Leroux’s original novel. It was representative of the many mental disorders the poor man had acquired over his many years.
