Welllll, I don’t know about that… I own several books that have LGBTQIA+ characters, and I’ve read plenty from the library. So far I haven’t had any banned books for sexual orientation.

Hitler declared himself a "German" Christian. So type of protestant. So Christian. And the Catholic Church had been demonizing the Jewish people for centuries. Also the Pope did was Catholics do, as little as possible to protect the bank. He never overtly opposed anything. Because, you know, gotta protect that money

Lots of people — like Hitler — claim the Christian title, but do not act like Christians. If someone is being cruel to someone else for no reason, they’re not Christian. Christians — ACTUAL Christians — are actually really kind and sweet. At least all the ones I’m around. Also a lot less stuck-up than people tend to think. I don’t know what kind of Christians other people are around, but the ones I’m with are super nice to everyone, regardless of differences in beliefs.

I can provide you with hundreds of links to child rapists who were priests and the like. Also anti trans, anti LGBTQIA groups. Pro-lifers who kill people. Or the crusades. Or the inquisition. I mean, come on, there is no hate like Christian love. Take your blinders off

Stitch- I always am confused by the hate and negativity my fellow US citizens direct towards LDS folk. I'm a totally open atheist, but my interactions with people of the Mormon faith (and I lived in the 4 Corners) have shown me that they are kind, generous to a fault, and possibly the most Christian of all those claiming that label. My atheism made them sad, but no one pushed their faith on me, they pretty much just led by example. And I don't need comments about how "weird" these folks are from second handers- I lived among them for a few years; been there, shared meals. Oh- and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is just awesome, even if you're not a fan of religious music. Very kind, family oriented, generous folks.

@Rostit....Thank you for saying that, as a gun owner. I am not a gun owner and I have problems with the current laws and processes. But you have said what I think quite well.

You're welcome. I wish more gun owners would speak out like that. I enjoy guns. Its a fun hobby and I really like the history and engineering of firearms. That said, I can also clearly see that there is a problem that should have a reasonable solution if people would get off their asses. Believe it or not there is already a pretty comprehensive background check system. Where is fails is that a lot of the smaller police agencies are not linked to the central database that background checks use. It is called the NICS system. If the BATF had the funding to link all those systems that are not linked, the amount of domestic abusers and mentally ill people with access to firearms would be reduced immensely. that is still not a full solution though. While that is happening we also need to address the root causes of gun violence in general. fix the basic socioeconomic problems that lead to violence and even insurance for gun owners. I already have them insured if they are stolen so...

@Rostit: Really good, thoughtful explanation. I have guns because everyone else does, and I feel at this point they're essential to protect my family - but I absolutely HATE them. I wish more of the people who like guns were like you.

@Saint Tim the Godless, serious question, you get out and train with your gun right? You take your family and teach them how to handle it safely as well? If not or if you haven't in a while, I would seriously suggest doing so. Its a fact that children who are trained and taught to respect weapons at an early age do not have the fascination with them that other kids do. It demystifies. Plus, if a situation occurs where they need to use it, they are then properly trained and able to do so safely. I see too many people who are in your situation but don't train. It's not a judgment towards you either. I don't even expect an answer(none of my business). Just wanted to put the thought in your head if it wasn't there already.

Rostit- I find it very sad that your common sense and well thought positions on guns, law, and the hobby somehow are NOT the positions of the NRA. As a combat vet, I can't really support the idea of kids doing home defense ops (I've seen well trained and experienced military operatives break under fire), but I sense your heart and head are in the right place. One thing: it's never "safe" engaging another in a gunfight, no matter how well trained you are... Pray to whoever is your God that no kid "needs" to play guns for real. I saw child soldiers in Africa; they either quickly became psychopathic killers or they were mown down like grass, both outcomes were negative and preventable, if there is will. Have you considered countering the NRA with common sense? You have the platform, and I suspect many gun owners, even NRA members would support you. Think upon it. Cheers from North Dakota!

You missed my point or i wasn't clear enough. I don't think kids should have to handle a firearm in a safety situation. However I do think that if parents keep firearms in the house their kids should be trained on handling them. There have been many situations where a kid did have to defend their home and knowing how to safely operate a weapon is key to that. I don't mean we want child soldiers. I mean that if an AR-15 is in the house the kids should know how to make it safe and how to shoot it. Then they know it's not a toy. It's not something you wave around to threaten the kid at school you don't like. That's what I mean about training. Learning how dangerous and how final a gun is can go a long way. I'm talking about safety and responsibility.. not creating seal team six years old.
