There's no one in the world who doesn't know what fast food is—some love it, others detest it, but the famous brands are almost seared into our brain. Certain fast food chains operate at a local level only, and then there are those that are spread all over the world. McDonald's is perhaps one of the few brands that even people who have never tasted fast food will recognize.

With such popularity comes variety. The chain's restaurants can be found in the middle of bustling cities and in remote places, with fascinating designs and astounding architectural decisions. And one Twitter user decided to collect the pictures of these unique restaurants in one place. This user going by the name of Nonstandard McDonald's (@nonstandardmcd) dedicated time to preserving the only architectural heritage of the western world—McDonald's restaurants! Since its conception, the account has gained 101.6K followers as fans of the fast food chain happily shared their insights, opinions, and pictures. And here are some of them.

Unfortunately, it is inaccessible to humans. In honour of World Bee Day (who knew there was such thing), the McDonald's franchise commissioned Swedish designer Nicklas Nilsson to create the world's smallest McDonald's. The interior of this tiny McDonald's contains rows of honeycombs instead of seats.

We have this design where I live in the UK. They're both drive through restaurants. There are window slats in the outside wood style that you can move across the windows inside the seating areas to block out the sun if you need to.

These lunatics might be serious. The article also mentioned someone who joined the Facebook group thinking it was a joke, but then spent time there and came to believe they're serious. I also found this image in the article (a banner pic of their Facebook page at some point.) IS THAT JUDAS HOLDING A TOY STEGASAURUS?!?! Why ‘Christians’ against Dinosaurs? They don’t speak for all Christians. It’s a narrow-minded very small group! This kind of thing makes me mad and can affect others’ perceptions of how they view religious people.

    A. I just want to say I live near Tucson and see these dinosaurs all the time! It's amazing! Even, since the pandemic, they've put a mask on the one facing the street (I don't know about the other one though). B. I am a Christian and when shown the Christians against dinosaurs trying to remove the statues i initially thought it was a joke because it was ridiculous, but did some research and NO it was real and I was infuriated pretty much everyone in the Tucson area! Pleases know we are not all idiots! :)

Now... now... people. Those aren't real christians since the don't really read the whole bible. Those guys only pick out the choicest bits and regurgitate them to fit their view points. Which in the end only creates chaos and misconceptions. Besides that little group is forgetting the most important stuff....and it doesn't involve dinos, cartoons and other.

In Washington, we have a similar looking McDonalds in Leavenworth, although it isn't a historical building-it was built to look old and Bavarian lol. All the other stores in town look that way including the Safeway - it's literally a law there that all buildings have to be built in a style like the picture above.

As someone who works in historic preservation, you are looking at this all wrong. The building was saved in large part to it's new use. Preserving and maintaining historic building is very expensive and without a moneymaking use, no company is going to be willing to do it. If this was any other kind of business that wasn't fast food, I suspect you wouldn't have the same issue with the new signage... yeah they are golden arches but those golden arches saved that building.

@WilvanderHeijden In France, since decentralization in the 1990s, the State no longer takes care of the maintenance of buildings which are not classified as historical monuments. This maintenance is now devolved to the mayors of the cities where the buildings are located. And this maintenance is expensive. This is why the mayors prefer to rent the buildings to companies (here Macdonald's) which will be responsible for maintaining the building at their expense.

Because unlike in North America, many other countries do their best to preserve their historic buildings; so when a company like McDonald's wants to open a location, they need to work with the confines of the original building. Personally I'd much rather have a McDonalds that looked like this than one of the many ugly flat-front concrete ones around me.
