I have Type 3c Diabetes and it's free for me and Type 1 and Type 2. Insulin and the Creon vital for my condition is completely free. A bill to cap the price on insulin at $35 per month has just passed the House of Reps in the US. With the majority of Republicans voting AGAINST it. An example of our corrupt representation in government:. 1 in 10 people in the state of Michigan requires insulin to survive, yet every Republican representative for Michigan voted AGAINST this bill. So, it did pass the House, now it's got to get through Senate. Fingers crossed.
How people can vote against lower cost (should be free) medication that people need to stay alive is absolutely beyond me. Utterly disgusting. I really hope this does get passed - good luck to the US with this.

I live in Canada and my insulin ALONE is well over 300$ a month even with two types of extended health insurance. All of my supplies is more than 700$ a month. Easy.
It's so sad, my best friend who recently passed away was diabetic and his insulin was so expensive sometimes he would go without it or have to wait until it was out of control and go to the ER. But they wouldn't take him until it was so bad that he was almost going into shock.
My type 1 diabetic friend is losing his coverage in September. I'm so worried about him :(

in russia, due to all the sanctions, the people are unable to have enough insulin. although putin is an a*****e, this doesn't mean that the everyday people, who have done nothing wrong must suffer. also in the US the insulin is way too overpriced.
You can't fully understand the power the pharmaceutical industry has in the U.S until you've sat through a couple of hours of American cable TV. The sheer volume of ads for all kinds of drugs for all kinds of ailments are just obscene imho. To top it off the list of possible side effects for each drug are often worse than the thing it's supposed to cure in the first place. It's mind-boggling.
In my country, which is not a rich super nation, is free. You have to fight against these ridiculous prices.
Drives me insane. My niece in the US uses the same insulin I do. The retail price here is $35/vial, there it's over $300. Same exact brand, size, etc.
I am diabetic and it takes about $5 to manufacture a VIAL of insulin, yet they charge f*****g ridiculous prices.
In Turkey it is free, as well other medicine and a doctor visit cost less than 1 dollar. But at the end, people do not diet because they can use free medicine. They even do not do what doctor says because it is free and just go to hospital nearly every other week just because they can. There must be a middle point. Both extreme does not help to elevate health of the public.
This one makes me foam at the mouth. The gentlemen who invented insulin, Frederick Banting, Charles H. Best, and JJR Macleod, sold their patents to the University of Toronto for $1.00 each. At the time diabetics had a life expectancy of only 12 months after diagnosis, and the guys that discovered it wanted everyone to have access to it.
As a Type 1 diabetic on insulin for over 40 years, when I was first diagnosed it was $10 a vial and was available without a prescription. It's a crying shame now how much I have to pay just to stay alive.

My daughter is a Type 1 diabetic and her insulin is crazy-expensive. The United Way helps low income patients without health insurance obtain drugs such as heart medicine, insulin, antidepressants, seizure drugs and chemotherapy drugs for little to no cost. However, the program has suffered logistical issues during the supply chain debacle and sometimes has shortages, and we're forced to pay for her insulin. Over four hundred dollars neither of us can afford, but she will die without it. Prescription drug prices are completely out of control and there aren't enough programs to assist patients with obtaining their medications.
There is only one reason for inflation , rising cost , empty shelves , high cost of fuel and infant Formula shortage . There is not enough space to describe the damage that has been done to this country and the American people in the recent year .
I am prescribed the pens. I pay for a month supply but because of my dosage, they won't break open a box anymore. That means I am short insulin for 5 days every month yet I still pay full price.
Remember though that there are many drugs that GoodRx won’t cover if your insurance doesn’t cover any of it. I have this problem with one of my scripts. Insurance won’t cover it because I haven’t tried at least two other drugs in it’s class first. $1,600 for one month of anti-psychotics for my bipolar disorder. People and corporations should not be profiting off of the illnesses of others!

We have this great system. If you have a chronic disease you get "discount" from your meds. The percent is from approx. 50 to 100%. Diabetics here pay around 2,5€/insulin for max 3 months. This system is kept with taxes we pay

This is great advice! GoodRx can be a life saver. Also many doctors offices have discount cards available if you ask. Insulin prices blow but for nearly any other med always ask if they have samples, drug reps hand them out like the Halloween candy you get in the fancy part of town.
Insulin is necessary for some people to live. It should be illegal for necessary items like this to cost so much. It should honestly be about the price of a water bottle or even less.
Insulin is like the only pharmaceutical where being under patent was a good thing - because the University of Toronto was gifted the patent and Canadians have had cheap plentiful insulin ever since.

Running for office in America.
The cost to run a successful campaign in America for virtually any state level or higher political office is simply unattainable for the common person and prices out anyone but the ruling class of oligarchs and those with connections to it. Sure there examples of candidates outside the typical wealthy and ingrained political establishment, but they are the rare exception, not the rule.
With US House races costing over $2 million and Senate races costing over $16 million the average person, no matter how well educated and how well qualified, is automatically eliminated without a vast amount of personal wealth or connections to the individuals, corporations, and parties that do hold that power. So the halls of congress and the seat of power is never filled with our best and brightest, but instead those with the wealth to attain that power and the conviction to maintain that status quo at virtually any cost to the people.
This is a big part of the reason campaign reform is so important... nice normal people can't successfully run most of the time.
Drugs. They say it's to pay for R&D but there were meeting minutes leaked from a big pharmaceutical company where they were like how much should we charge for this drug? $20? How about $50? Why not $100? Why not $300??? So they went with $300/pill.
The real kicker here is that most R&D is funded by the NIH, or in other words OUR TAX DOLLARS. This needs to end ASAP

Even with 'sales' Lego is expensive, but I think it is better quality than the knock offs as it doesn't break as easily. Being reusable and having lots of open-ended (ie pieces that can be used for a variety of representations) pieces means you can buy a couple of sets and leave it at that if you can't afford more. I think people are willing to pay Starbucks prices for a daily coffee must not have any need of the money. What you are generalizing might be true but most designer clothes, while might not be worth their price to the penny, are still made with high quality material and a lot of designer products are hand made which would make them more expensive. Most of these are people complaining about the exo expenses of things that they do NOT need. I mean Modern "Art", bread from a fancy bread shop, Nintendo games, Fancy funerals and wedding receptions!! Wealthy people's problems!

Online subscription services for consoles- Older consoles with just as good online functionality can go online completely free and have free online multiplayer. These days you have to pay a stinking subscription fee for it. It's like they went "we don't need to charge you for this but huh you'll pay it let's do it". They're not that expensive I guess but considering it's a service they could offer for nothing, it's stupid
To be *at least slightly* fair to them, old online games were pretty much all peer to peer connections, the most the game really did was find your opponents. That's still common in PC games but console versions often set up central connections. I doubt it justifies the cost per person, but at least they also throw a bunch of free games in.

Credit card and loan interest rates are way, way, way out of line, especially since banks give virtually no interest on deposits. I saw a US bank offering a 'generous' 0.5% interest rate recently and wondered how anyone could think that is OK. I live in South Asia. My new account has a 6.5% interest rate, which is actually quite low for here—but it sure beats the USA. I didn't even realize when I signed up for it that I could actually qualify for a savings account. When I was growing up, interest rates were more like 10%. 20 years ago, a jumbo CD brought in 20% interest. People complain about prices being high where I live, but I am paying $200 for a little cottage overlooking a lake, and maybe another $100 a month for food, so it's much more livable than the USA, Canada or Europe. I'm happy to live a simpler life. Medical and dental expenses are much more reasonable here, too.
I don't know how it is elsewhere, but most banks here make all their money on loan/credit card interest, with a smaller amount on fees and such. Despite it seeming like fewer people can afford things with their own money, I think it's also the case that fewer people can or will get credit cards, so they had to lower interest rates on cards, and offer Cashback benefits, meaning they also had to lower positive interest rates on debit accounts. That's really me taking a stab in the dark, but I know the only reason I signed up for a credit card at all was 2% cash back on purchases, and I do not plan to leave a balance to charge interest on.
