People Remember Watching These 35 Movies As Kids But Nobody Else Seems To Recall Them, As Shared In This Online Group
Human memory is an extremely bizarre thing. It happens that sometimes we forget very important facts and moments that took place quite recently, while for whole decades we remember to the smallest detail all sorts of films or cartoons that we saw only a couple of times in our childhood.
We remember well the names of the characters of these films, their signature lines, and as soon as someone sings just a couple of notes from the musical theme of these films, we happily pick up and sing until the end of the whole day. We may even forget the name of the film, but we will never dismiss from mind our emotions when watching it.
The AskReddit community once asked the question "What's a movie you saw as a kid that only you seem to remember?" and the thread went viral instantly, with nearly 13.4K upvotes and over 20.6K comments across different generations of redditors. At least among the answers there are films from the seventies, as well as relatively recent ones that came out at the beginning of this century.

Basically all these movies are just dances with wolves. Fern gully, Atlantis, avatar, the last samurai, pocahontas and quite a few others all follow the same premise. Good guy from bad group gets enmeshed with locals, usually falls for a girl, discovers their magical culture, ends up joining them and defends them from his group.
If you were an 80's kid, you knew this movie even if you never saw it.

This film was so traumatizing even tho it was a kids movie, its seems like a nightmare that just became a movie.

My grandparents had this movie and the vhs case came with a key and a tiny figurine. The opening of the vhs had a “keyhole” and the backside of the cover insert looked like wood paneling so you could flip it backwards to make the entire thing look like a cupboard and then put the figurine inside

For years, none of my friends believed that The Black Cauldron existed. I saw it in the theater, and never saw it again until several years ago. Convincing my friends that it existed (before the internet) was no easy task.
Based of Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain series, a YA fantasy sequence of which The Black Cauldron was the 2nd of 5 books.

This movie hits so differently when I was a kid, versus when I was an adult.
I always knew there was something wrong about Faye's issues but I didn't understand/couldn't process what it was. But I was a kid, and WOO alien spaceships.
Watching it as an adult I realize how broken she was.
To this day I cannot fathom how they managed to inject such powerful emotion into the near death of what was virtually a flying saucepan. You fight for your life little dude, we're all rooting for you!!

Pippi Longstocking! It was an animated movie from 1997 that I loved as a kid, and I’ve never heard anyone ever mention it before.
There's also the tv-show from the 60's. Yeah I was a fan as a kid, especially after I learned to read so my parents didn't need to read the subtitles

Hey! This is like national required reading for us Swedes, but I had no idea it made it over the borders! Astrid Lindgren, the author of the book this was based on (Pippi Långstrump), wrote so many fantastic childrens books it’s awe inspiring. Awesome woman. Dead now, unfortunately.
This version of the Pippi stories is terrible! Not at all how the author saw her. Astrid Lindgren wished she hadn't agreed to this. The television series, and movies, from the 60s are a true treasure! Just in Lindgren's spirit.
Astrid Lindgren wrote several great books. Another has been made into several video adaptation called Ronja, the Robber's daughter. Studio Ghibli made a 26 episode TV show.
I'm just realising now how many kids' shows and movies I loved were dubbed (badly) to Afrikaans. haha
I had to watch this in 1st grade and it was very cool to see a girl that was completely different then all the other girls in my private school. I think I liked that movie a little too much because I have a similar style to her now!
I read and loved all of the books. This series did not do the books justice. Worse, one of the main characters had the screechiest voice! It made it un-watchable.
I went to school dressed as her for school one year, pipe cleaners in my hair and everything with those stripy over the knee socks with toe like feet gloves 😂😂
LIve action one was better. The Swedish live action ones were even betterer. And the BOOKS WERE THE GD BEST!!!!
The live action series is actually really well known in the Netherlands, it's my childhood! :)

No body I know personally watched anything from the busy world of Richard Scaryy. Not a movie but I bought a DVD copy of the entire show series and my wife had 0 clue what it was.

Something Wicked This Way Comes. I loved it, and I think I saw it alone because my friends bailed on me.
I obsessively watched “Bedknobs and Beoomsticks” and “Pete’s dragon” as a kid, and have never met anyone else who’s ever watched either of them. I recently watched the original Pete’s Dragon and realized I still know it off by heart. And still sincerely enjoy it. Better than the remake.
I also once watched “Wild Hearts Can’t be Broken” as a kid and LOVED it. Thought about it for years afterwards but whenever I asked anyone else about “This movie about a girl who performs a stunt where she jumps on a running horse at the top of a tall tower and jumps with the horse into a pool. And then goes blind but does it again anyway.” Everyone thought I was crazy. Thank you Disney Plus for confirming it DOES exist, I DIDN’T make it up, and got major nostalgia watching it again.

I would add Fantastic Voyage (1966). The brilliant scientist Jan Benes (Jean Del Val) develops a way to shrink humans, and other objects, for brief periods of time. Benes, who is working in communist Russia, is transported by the CIA to America, but is attacked en route. In order to save the scientist, who has developed a blood clot in his brain, a team of Americans in a nuclear submarine is shrunk and injected into Benes' body. They have a finite period of time to fix the clot and get out before the miniaturization wears off. Edit: Okay, not a children's movie but I saw it when I was about 5 because my older brother -15- was watching it and I got hooked. Saw it 3 times before I turned 12.

The fact that Song of the South isn't on this list says it is the most obscure of them all. The list is nowhere near complete without it. Not many banned Disney movies out there but this is one. Remember, "Zippity-do-da, zippity-a. My oh my what a wonderful day. Plenty of sunshine heading my way. Disney made a movie about a Siamese cat owned by a little Scots girl. The cat died and the girl and her brother buried her, but she was "resurrected" with no memory of her former life. It was called The Three Lives of Thomasina. I loved it! It starred the same two children from Mary Poppins. Where is it, Disney+? Also, Ring of Bright Water, about an Englishman who raises a pet otter. I have such a soft spot for animals & this one made me cry too. Can't find it anywhere.

Anybody remember "Young Einstein" with Aussie Yahoo Serious? Nobody I know (I'm from the US) has ever seen it. I was obsessed with Yahoo Serious as a kid and loved "Reckless Kelly" as well. Nobody seems to know him or his movies. Ugh, in "Young Einstein" when the chef at the asylum puts the kittens in the pie to bake crushed me as a kid and still does. The ending when he sings Chuck Berry's "Rock and Roll Music" was my favorite part. According to the movie, Einstein is from Tasmania and he split the beer atom. Lol.
When I was a kid I loved this movie about a golden retriever puppy who climbed in a balloon basket, and journeyed through Australian wilderness to get back home. The movie was called "Napoleon" I think. My mom had recorded it on a VHS tape but sadly it was lost at some point. Anyone know the movie I'm talking about?

OK. So I have two TV shows where I seem to be the only one who remembers them: The first was a Steven Spielberg production called Road Rovers, an animated show about dogs who are the pets of world leaders, who band together to fight the evil General Parvo. The German dog was a Doberman who sounded a lot like Arnold Schwarzenegger. It only lasted about one season. Another show that only lived for about 2 seasons was Histeria. The focus was world history, and it's still one of the funniest and best presentations of history.
I used to be obsessed with an obscure little Disney movie called the Three Lives of Thomasina about the adventures of a little girl in Scotland and her cat.
Not a movie, just cartoon, maybe early Disney: Tubby the Tuba. About an instrument who isn't appreciated in the orchestra, until he finds(?) a piece he can play. Saw it on early television, and never since. It woke me up to classical music.....

Wizards (1977). A bizarre post-apocalyptic animated scifi-fantasy film with magic, elves, wizards, fairies and robots. Featuring Mark Hamill's very first role (Wizards was completed before filming began on Star Wars). The film was made by Ralph Bakshi, who would make the animated Lord of the Rings a year later.
The Hugga Bunch and Unico were both big faves of mine growing up. Oh! And Rainbow Brite and Jem! I also grew up watching and loving Beanie and Cecil; then I tried watching it as an adult. I'm not sure I made it through the first five minutes - it did NOT age well! Puff the Magic Dragon I loved, too. Gumby was also one I enjoyed.

The Great Mom Swap (1995) was one I used to rent from the video store often and then when they were going out of business and selling their stock I bought it. No longer have a VHS player to watch it with though. Wish it was on dvd! Another is a Christmas special called Christmas Eve in Sesame Street (1978). I watch it every year (usually multiple times) and do the sign language along with my favourite song.
I've only seen a few of these, I forgot about a lot of them. Wasn't until I started getting towards the bottom that for the most part I'm like "hey I haven't even heard of these." - I don't know if this unknown or not, but I feel like the only people who remember (or talk about) the last starfighter is me and my parents.

I remember watching a movie when I was a child that had pirate ghost a young boy and girl evil foster parents a old man and grog. The thing was for the life of me I couldn't remember the title and nobody I asked had any idea what I was talking about 🤣. Anyways one day I figured it must be a Canadian movie so I looked up movies from different years and sure enough I found it🙂. The movie was called George's Island I was so happy to finally find the name and to top it off it was on YouTube
While I haven't seen all of these, I still knew most of them existed... so I think people are just dumb and like to ignore something they don't like instead of acknowledging they existed lol

I had a video tape from The Wizard of Oz that I watched over and over and over again. I couldn't care less about the original movie, but I had this obscure anime-like version from 1982 (I think) that I loved to pieces. I still have it somewhere, but since it's a video 2000 tape I have no way to play it anymore (which is probably for the better, because I would probably explode from the nostalgic impact). (Edit: Ha! I absolutely loved this film as a kid called Rainbow, no one else has ever heard of it. It's from 1996 and had Bob Hoskins and Dan Aykroyd in it. I remember watching it loads but whenever I've seen reviews it's been absolutely slated, so I don't know if it is good or I just like it because I was a kid. Every time I see one of these lists I wonder if anyone else would mention it.
Here's a few i didn't see mentioned from when I was little that no one Ever remembers... 'Moon Madness' 'A Witches Night Out' 'Unico & the Island of Magic' 'The HuggaBunch movie' ..... And in high school I saw 'Meet the Feebles' I have never met anyone who has known any of these movies. Just like people don't remember the Nerfuls toys. If I didn't have the movies on vhs and the Nerfuls in my attic I'd think I was crazy.

Does anyone remember The Black Hole? It was Disney's answer to Star Wars, complete with a 'cute' robot. It was so boring to twelve year old me, and the robot was just the most annoying character and kind of acted stupid.

Benes, who is working in communist Russia, is transported by the CIA to America, but is attacked en route. In order to save the scientist, who has developed a blood clot in his brain, a team of Americans in a nuclear submarine is shrunk and injected into Benes' body. They have a finite period of time to fix the clot and get out before the miniaturization wears off. Edit: Okay, not a children's movie but I saw it when I was about 5 because my older brother -15- was watching it and I got hooked. Saw it 3 times before I turned 12.

Disney made a movie about a Siamese cat owned by a little Scots girl. The cat died and the girl and her brother buried her, but she was "resurrected" with no memory of her former life. It was called The Three Lives of Thomasina. I loved it! It starred the same two children from Mary Poppins. Where is it, Disney+? Also, Ring of Bright Water, about an Englishman who raises a pet otter. I have such a soft spot for animals & this one made me cry too. Can't find it anywhere.

I was obsessed with Yahoo Serious as a kid and loved "Reckless Kelly" as well. Nobody seems to know him or his movies. Ugh, in "Young Einstein" when the chef at the asylum puts the kittens in the pie to bake crushed me as a kid and still does. OK. So I have two TV shows where I seem to be the only one who remembers them: The first was a Steven Spielberg production called Road Rovers, an animated show about dogs who are the pets of world leaders, who band together to fight the evil General Parvo. The German dog was a Doberman who sounded a lot like Arnold Schwarzenegger. It only lasted about one season. Another show that only lived for about 2 seasons was Histeria. The focus was world history, and it's still one of the funniest and best presentations of history.
I used to be obsessed with an obscure little Disney movie called the Three Lives of Thomasina about the adventures of a little girl in Scotland and her cat.
Not a movie, just cartoon, maybe early Disney: Tubby the Tuba. About an instrument who isn't appreciated in the orchestra, until he finds(?) a piece he can play. Saw it on early television, and never since. It woke me up to classical music.....

Wizards (1977). A bizarre post-apocalyptic animated scifi-fantasy film with magic, elves, wizards, fairies and robots. Featuring Mark Hamill's very first role (Wizards was completed before filming began on Star Wars). The film was made by Ralph Bakshi, who would make the animated Lord of the Rings a year later.
The Hugga Bunch and Unico were both big faves of mine growing up. Oh! And Rainbow Brite and Jem! I also grew up watching and loving Beanie and Cecil; then I tried watching it as an adult. I'm not sure I made it through the first five minutes - it did NOT age well! Puff the Magic Dragon I loved, too. Gumby was also one I enjoyed.

The Great Mom Swap (1995) was one I used to rent from the video store often and then when they were going out of business and selling their stock I bought it. No longer have a VHS player to watch it with though. Wish it was on dvd! Another is a Christmas special called Christmas Eve in Sesame Street (1978). I watch it every year (usually multiple times) and do the sign language along with my favourite song.
I've only seen a few of these, I forgot about a lot of them.
