People Remember Watching These 35 Movies As Kids But Nobody Else Seems To Recall Them, As Shared In This Online Group
Human memory is an extremely bizarre thing. It happens that sometimes we forget very important facts and moments that took place quite recently, while for whole decades we remember to the smallest detail all sorts of films or cartoons that we saw only a couple of times in our childhood.
We remember well the names of the characters of these films, their signature lines, and as soon as someone sings just a couple of notes from the musical theme of these films, we happily pick up and sing until the end of the whole day. We may even forget the name of the film, but we will never dismiss from mind our emotions when watching it.
The AskReddit community once asked the question "What's a movie you saw as a kid that only you seem to remember?" and the thread went viral instantly, with nearly 13.4K upvotes and over 20.6K comments across different generations of redditors. At least among the answers there are films from the seventies, as well as relatively recent ones that came out at the beginning of this century.
Bored Panda made a selection of the most popular, touching and nostalgic comments for you, so feel free now to scroll to the very end, and then - who knows, maybe you will take an old and dust-covered VHS player with your favorite cassette from the attic, plug in the cables and, for an hour or so, go back to that beautiful, unattainable childhood...

Ah yes, the animated mouse musical that taught me about immigration at the turn of the century. Pogroms, "no cats in America and the streets are paved with cheese" random Ellis Island name changes, the rise of social justice, suffrage, labor movements, and Tamanny Hall! "Are we men, or are we mice?!" "MICE"

Basically all these movies are just dances with wolves. Fern gully, Atlantis, avatar, the last samurai, pocahontas and quite a few others all follow the same premise. Good guy from bad group gets enmeshed with locals, usually falls for a girl, discovers their magical culture, ends up joining them and defends them from his group.
If you were an 80's kid, you knew this movie even if you never saw it.
All dogs go to heaven
This film was so traumatizing even tho it was a kids movie, its seems like a nightmare that just became a movie.
Basically about dogs that are gambling and taking drugs lol

My grandparents had this movie and the vhs case came with a key and a tiny figurine. The opening of the vhs had a “keyhole” and the backside of the cover insert looked like wood paneling so you could flip it backwards to make the entire thing look like a cupboard and then put the figurine inside

For years, none of my friends believed that The Black Cauldron existed. I saw it in the theater, and never saw it again until several years ago. Convincing my friends that it existed (before the internet) was no easy task.
Based of Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain series, a YA fantasy sequence of which The Black Cauldron was the 2nd of 5 books.

Watching it as an adult I realize how broken she was.

Edit: Big thanks to everybody who commented. Makes me feel a little more normal hearing the similar stories.

Something Wicked This Way Comes. I loved it, and I think I saw it alone because my friends bailed on me.
I obsessively watched “Bedknobs and Beoomsticks” and “Pete’s dragon” as a kid, and have never met anyone else who’s ever watched either of them. I recently watched the original Pete’s Dragon and realized I still know it off by heart. And still sincerely enjoy it. Better than the remake.
I also once watched “Wild Hearts Can’t be Broken” as a kid and LOVED it. Thought about it for years afterwards but whenever I asked anyone else about “This movie about a girl who performs a stunt where she jumps on a running horse at the top of a tall tower and jumps with the horse into a pool. And then goes blind but does it again anyway.” Everyone thought I was crazy. Thank you Disney Plus for confirming it DOES exist, I DIDN’T make it up, and got major nostalgia watching it again.

A movie that took place on the Ewok planet (not Return of the Jedi) where a little girl and her brother crash land and are helped by the Ewoks, and they get caught in a giant spiderweb, and one of them gets sucked under a lake and can't break the surface of the water because it'a like glass.
Oh wow! THAT’S what it’s called. I remembered that there was another Ewok movie that I liked when I was little.

I am adamant that this movie has to exist. It’s about two cats, a white girl cat and a black male cat. It’s some sort of oldies French setting where the female cat gets stolen by a villain cat and the black cat goes after her and tries to save her. I swear to god this movie exists but I have only ever seen it once and it was back when I was like 6 or 7. But gosh sometimes bits and pieces of that movie will pop in my head and I just can’t place a name on it or it could have been something I dreamt up..

The name of the movie is Gay Purr-ee.
The female cat (Mewsette) was voiced by Judy Garland.
The hero make cat (Jaune-Tom) voiced by Robert Goulet.
The villain cat (Meowrice) was voiced by Paul Frees.
And one of the writers was Chuck Jones.
If you couldn't tell, I adore this movie.
Stanley's Magic Garden (also known as A Troll in Central Park in later years).
Edit: Apparently it was Stanley's Magic Garden in the UK and A Troll in Central Park in North America.
Edit edit: there seems no rules to what name you'd get lol. I'll leave this alone now.
This movie is Don Bluth’s weakest by a lot, but “Absolutely Green” is a banger.

There was a really good lesson about acceptance of oneself in Quest for Camelot! And I recall the forest being rather beautiful.
It was a fake documentary on Animal Planet about dragons. It’s like archaeologists finding a frozen dragon skeleton and talking about how dragons were able to fly, breathe fire, etc.
I apparently missed the part where they clarified that it was all a dramatization, because this movie had me CONVINCED that dragons were real, extinct animals for awhile.

I’ve been trying to figure out what this was for the last 25 years. This is it. I couldn’t remember that it was a Ray Bradbury book. I certainly didn’t remember Leonard Nimoy voiced one of the characters.
God damn, thank you. I thought I was crazy. This is the line that I always tried to remember because as a kid I thought it sounded cool:
“The day Joe Pipkin was born all the Orange Crush and Nehi soda bottles in the world fizzed over…”
I cannot convey how loud my gasp was just now. I watched this movie RELIGIOUSLY every Halloween. EVERY. HALLOWEEN. And then they stopped playing it and I never could find it again.

I saw that movie when I was about 10 years old. My family was on a road trip, and we were staying in a motel one night. My father decided to find a movie to watch on TV, and he chose that one. I'm pretty sure he knew it was definitely not for kids and just wanted to mess with my brother (4 years younger) and me. I don't know how it affected my brother, but it took till my 20s (currently 36) before I was comfortable around clowns again.
Best part of that movie were the killer clowns costumes. I'd say it's where 75% of the budget went

S Club 7 is one of those things I feel like I imagined, but then someone somewhere references it and I'm like, oh, good, I'm not insane
It wasn’t a movie it was a f*****g cartoon tv series spinoff of Toy Story (2?) called Buzz Lightyear of Star Command

Loved this cartoon!!! I still have a gargoyle's toy that you push a button and it swirls open a boulder to expose a gargoyle inside.
Load More Replies...Most of these weren't even a little unknown. Like top rated and best selling movies.
The top ones are most well knows, but as you go down the list, it does get stranger.
Load More Replies...This is a strange list for me. Most of these are very, very popular movies or shows I vividly recall. I think it's an age group thing - many my age remember these and a lot are huge cult classics! How about Rick Moranis in Gravedale High, though? That's one I remember only because I had a crush on him as a kid, lol
I remember watching a movie called The Cat From Outer Space back in the late 70's
Anyone else here remember a film from 1973 The Belstone Fox?? That really got to me as a child!!
Did it have Dennis Waterman in it? If so, vaguely remember it.
Load More Replies...It took me a long time to find anyone who remembered the Gummy Bears TV show. I loved it growing up. Now, I just like the theme song.
What about Labyrinth? Jim Henson production that NEVER got the recognition it deserved. Details go on and on. Hypnotic. Beautiful. Find it and treat yourself!
Reboot anyone? A cartoon that took place inside of a computer, I think? I absolutely loved it, it was a unique CG cartoon at the time.
It was cutting edge at the time. I liked the early seasons until Enzo grew up. Then it became darker.
Load More Replies...YES!!!!! I recently bought it because, well, nostalgia.... its so awful but in a fantastic way!
Load More Replies..."Where the Buffalo Roam" starring Bill Murray. The intro song, sung by Neil Young, brings tears to my eyes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_the_Buffalo_Roam
Does anyone remember The Black Hole? It was Disney's answer to Star Wars, complete with a 'cute' robot. It was so boring to twelve year old me, and the robot was just the most annoying character and kind of acted stupid.
With the horrifying Maximilian robot. I really liked it as a film. Shame that they couldn't make more of it.
Load More Replies...I would add Fantastic Voyage (1966). The brilliant scientist Jan Benes (Jean Del Val) develops a way to shrink humans, and other objects, for brief periods of time. Benes, who is working in communist Russia, is transported by the CIA to America, but is attacked en route. In order to save the scientist, who has developed a blood clot in his brain, a team of Americans in a nuclear submarine is shrunk and injected into Benes' body. They have a finite period of time to fix the clot and get out before the miniaturization wears off. Edit: Okay, not a children's movie but I saw it when I was about 5 because my older brother -15- was watching it and I got hooked. Saw it 3 times before I turned 12.
You know I think I have heard of this. Even still, I can't help but think of magic school bus
Load More Replies...Dragonslayer, The Sword in the Stone, James and the Giant Peach, Lord of the Rings (animated), Watership Down, Harry and the Hendersons, Legend, The Neverending Story, Clash of the Titans, Willow, Wizards, Uncle Buck, Pete's Dragon and Fairie Tale Theatre (series). I'm sure there's a gazillion more.
Do these really come under 'Examples Of Movies And Cartoons That Very Few Remember And Still Love, Yet Many Don’t Even Know Of Their Existence" though? these are, by and large, pretty well known.
Load More Replies...The fact that Song of the South isn't on this list says it is the most obscure of them all. The list is nowhere near complete without it. Not many banned Disney movies out there but this is one. Remember, "Zippity-do-da, zippity-a. My oh my what a wonderful day. Plenty of sunshine heading my way. Zippity-do-da, zippity-a" In fact I think this song still plays on Splash Mountain in Disney World. Splash Mountain also features animatronic characters from Song of the South. How is this not on the list?
My brother and I were each able to buy a copy from an obscure Christmas store a number of years ago.
Load More Replies...Anyone remember Practical Magic? None of my friends know this movie and it my absolute favorite
Disney made a movie about a Siamese cat owned by a little Scots girl. The cat died and the girl and her brother buried her, but she was "resurrected" with no memory of her former life. It was called The Three Lives of Thomasina. I loved it! It starred the same two children from Mary Poppins. Where is it, Disney+? Also, Ring of Bright Water, about an Englishman who raises a pet otter. I have such a soft spot for animals & this one made me cry too. Can't find it anywhere.
The Three Lives of Thomasina absolutely destroyed me as a little kid. And don't get me started about A Ring of Bright Water. I'm still traumatized.

Thumbelina. Secret of nihm. Once upon a forest. Little monsters. The princess goblin. Sword in the stone. Witches. The secret garden. Dunstin checks in. Blank check. Richy rich.
I guess I watched a lot of movies on TV when I was 7-8 years old, but mine are: 1) The Hugga Bunch (1985) 2) Follow That Bird (1985) 3) The Journey of Natty Gann, (1985) 4) Alex: The Life of a Child (1986)
We had a copy of follow that bird for a while but it scared me.

I was obsessed with Yahoo Serious as a kid and loved "Reckless Kelly" as well. Nobody seems to know him or his movies. Ugh, in "Young Einstein" when the chef at the asylum puts the kittens in the pie to bake crushed me as a kid and still does. The ending when he sings Chuck Berry's "Rock and Roll Music" was my favorite part. According to the movie, Einstein is from Tasmania and he split the beer atom. Lol.
When I was a kid I loved this movie about a golden retriever puppy who climbed in a balloon basket, and journeyed through Australian wilderness to get back home. The movie was called "Napoleon" I think. My mom had recorded it on a VHS tape but sadly it was lost at some point. Anyone know the movie I'm talking about?
I remember a cartoon TV show about the Olympics, I've asked retro gurus, whatever they say it's not the one I remember.
I do too, only it had anthropomorphic animals in the Olympics! Never saw it again!
Load More Replies...Okay, but someone please tell me you wished to see Little Nemo Adventures in Slumberland??? That movie felt so unknown but I rented it from Blockbuster like every Friday through grade school!
Happily Ever After oughtta be on here. The one with the seven "Dwarfettes" and the Cigar smoking owl. XD
OK. So I have two TV shows where I seem to be the only one who remembers them: The first was a Steven Spielberg production called Road Rovers, an animated show about dogs who are the pets of world leaders, who band together to fight the evil General Parvo. The German dog was a Doberman who sounded a lot like Arnold Schwarzenegger. It only lasted about one season. Another show that only lived for about 2 seasons was Histeria. The focus was world history, and it's still one of the funniest and best presentations of history.
I used to be obsessed with an obscure little Disney movie called the Three Lives of Thomasina about the adventures of a little girl in Scotland and her cat.
Not a movie, just cartoon, maybe early Disney: Tubby the Tuba. About an instrument who isn't appreciated in the orchestra, until he finds(?) a piece he can play. Saw it on early television, and never since. It woke me up to classical music.....
Is it rather like Willie The Operatic Whale? That cartoon had me in tears.
Load More Replies...Anyone remember The Flight of Dragons? It was an animated movie with John Ritter and James Earl Jones. Anyone remember a show called TranzorZ?
Wizards (1977). A bizarre post-apocalyptic animated scifi-fantasy film with magic, elves, wizards, fairies and robots. Featuring Mark Hamill's very first role (Wizards was completed before filming began on Star Wars). The film was made by Ralph Bakshi, who would make the animated Lord of the Rings a year later.
The Hugga Bunch and Unico were both big faves of mine growing up. Oh! And Rainbow Brite and Jem! I also grew up watching and loving Beanie and Cecil; then I tried watching it as an adult. I'm not sure I made it through the first five minutes - it did NOT age well! Puff the Magic Dragon I loved, too. Gumby was also one I enjoyed.
Maybe yall can help me with one. I can't remember the name of it. But it's about this kid who has a cartoon alter ego. Like lizzie Mcguire does. But this is before lizzie Mcguire. They both enjoy skateboarding and it's Christian based.i remember my grandma having a few of the vhs

I have a lot of these on dvd I watched them with my kids then grand kids now great grand kids. I still have school house rock as well and Fivel goes west
The Great Mom Swap (1995) was one I used to rent from the video store often and then when they were going out of business and selling their stock I bought it. No longer have a VHS player to watch it with though. Wish it was on dvd! Another is a Christmas special called Christmas Eve in Sesame Street (1978). I watch it every year (usually multiple times) and do the sign language along with my favourite song.
I've only seen a few of these, I forgot about a lot of them. Wasn't until I started getting towards the bottom that for the most part I'm like "hey I haven't even heard of these." - I don't know if this unknown or not, but I feel like the only people who remember (or talk about) the last starfighter is me and my parents.
Anyone else remember The Electric Grandmother? The library frequently played it & I absolutely loved it.
Once upon a Forrest, The Magic Voyage are ones I get weird looks for. Still randomly quote.
Sooooo... this is a list of movies everyone's heard of and seen multiple times. There. New headline. **eyeroll**
Enemy Mine and Mac and Me, I used to think these were both the same movie but they are different.

My favorite movie that people forget about is Little Nemo. I loved that movie when I was a kid.
I was wondering if anyone was going to mention this one. I hated this movie, it was terrifying. I still own it.
Load More Replies...Some movies that I’ve seen but probably aren’t well known are The Guardian Brothers (at least where I am. Also called Little Door Gods) A Monster in Paris. Such a good movie and a shame it doesn’t seem well known! Missing Link (2019) I think is somewhat popular
Missing Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland... the most unforgettable movie of my childhood...
Asterix is a huge one for me. For a long time I thought I imagined it.
Does anyone else remember The Princess and the Goblin?
I remember watching a movie when I was a child that had pirate ghost a young boy and girl evil foster parents a old man and grog. The thing was for the life of me I couldn't remember the title and nobody I asked had any idea what I was talking about 🤣. Anyways one day I figured it must be a Canadian movie so I looked up movies from different years and sure enough I found it🙂. The movie was called George's Island I was so happy to finally find the name and to top it off it was on YouTube
While I haven't seen all of these, I still knew most of them existed... so I think people are just dumb and like to ignore something they don't like instead of acknowledging they existed lol
Anyone remember a movie from the 80s called Flight of Dragons? I think John Ritter did a voice.
I had a video tape from The Wizard of Oz that I watched over and over and over again. I couldn't care less about the original movie, but I had this obscure anime-like version from 1982 (I think) that I loved to pieces. I still have it somewhere, but since it's a video 2000 tape I have no way to play it anymore (which is probably for the better, because I would probably explode from the nostalgic impact). (Edit: Ha! Found it! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wizard_of_Oz_(1982_film)
time to share one of my own: Once upon a forest. I remember watching it at my grandma’s house when I was younger and really enjoyed it
I absolutely loved this film as a kid called Rainbow, no one else has ever heard of it. It's from 1996 and had Bob Hoskins and Dan Aykroyd in it. I remember watching it loads but whenever I've seen reviews it's been absolutely slated, so I don't know if it is good or I just like it because I was a kid. Every time I see one of these lists I wonder if anyone else would mention it.
Here's a few i didn't see mentioned from when I was little that no one Ever remembers... 'Moon Madness' 'A Witches Night Out' 'Unico & the Island of Magic' 'The HuggaBunch movie' ..... And in high school I saw 'Meet the Feebles' I have never met anyone who has known any of these movies. Just like people don't remember the Nerfuls toys. If I didn't have the movies on vhs and the Nerfuls in my attic I'd think I was crazy.
'The Devil and Daniel Mouse' is another movie
Load More Replies...Galaxy High School. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6HgSELD_DA I remember the theme song slapped. It reminded me of The Jetsons. There was one part where Aimee was at the mall and one of the beauty treatments was dying your skin any colour you want, like purple, blue, pink, green, etc, to match her dyed hair. I thought that would be a thing in the future lol.
Does anyone remember one about a guy befriending a sentient green blob of slime? I remember it being on a video tape when i was little but i cant remember the name
Are you talking about Flubber with Robin Williams.
Load More Replies...Nobody ever remembers A Simple Wish too! I absolutely loved watching the video of it growing up but none of my friends (UK) had ever heard of it!
Gargoyles the TV show on Disney doesn't get the love it deserved either
Load More Replies...The Secret Garden is another one...so good as a kid(sorta sad, but good)
"a cricket in times square" and "phantom tollbooth" could be on the list
Does anyone remember Lamb Chop's Play Along??? This show was my Barney lol. They came out around the same time and people only remember Barney.
Yes I do. I don't remember too much of the series, but still watch watch Lamb Chop The Haunted Studio (with Alan Thicke and John Byner) every Halloween.
Load More Replies...Wow that brought back so many memories but I was hoping to see that movie I know exist of a black space cat crash landed on earth... it was a 60s flicked. I loved it can never find it because I don't know the name and when I ask no one knows what talking about. I know it exist.
Ok so I'm an 80's babe (also from the UK) and I still find people who have never heard of The Poddington Peas, The Shoe People, Raggy Dolls and Funny Bones!!!
Do you remember Jamie and his magic torch. You have reminded me of ones I'd forgotten about
Load More Replies...This is basically "movies you saw if you were a kid in the 1980s or 90s". I know all of these. Some I saw in the theatre. Others only on VHS. I had a record read-along-book of The Rescuers
Not a movie but it was Super Ted for me... rented that vhs soooo many times. My mom found it on dvd many years ago and bought it for me 😊
SuperTed is still often spoken about here in Wales. There's been rumours of a reboot for about 10 years now, he may be back one day.
Load More Replies...Remember all of them. If I haven’t actually watched them (and ai have watched quite a few of them), I’ve either seen bits of them while changing TV channels, or heard about them from friends with small children (mostly talking about having to watch it AGAIN because their kid loved it and has now seen it like 100 times already).
Why is Robotech not on here? Everyone remembers Maccross, which isn't the same thing. Welcome to my hill.
I remember Robotech! I actually liked the"Masters" part best! Loved Zor Prime!
Load More Replies...Thumbalina! "Let me be your wings! Let me be your only love! Let me take you far beyond the stars!" I adored this movie as a kid.
Load More Replies...Anybody remember "Young Einstein" with Aussie Yahoo Serious? Nobody I know (I'm from the US) has ever seen it.
I remember this, but not the title. Blonde kid, right?
Load More Replies...Not a Show/Movie, but does anyone else remember the children's network called Qubo?
yeah!! they played that s**t at kids gap all the time!! /pos
Load More Replies...The Secret Of Magic Island, In color. only a very few people i know have seen this movie. The adventures of real live duck and a monkey with a magic wand and other real animals acting like people… need i say more
I have a lot of these on dvd I watched them with my kids then grand kids now great grand kids.
'I just had to see another face, even one as ugly as yours'
Load More Replies...Wow I could do a list of shows I remember that most people I know have never heard of. for example Ulysse 31, Jayce and the wheeled warriors, Centurions, Attack of the killer Tomatoes (Film and series)
