‘Millennial Misery’: 40 Of The Best Posts To Make Millennials Laugh, Then Cry
Interview With OwnerMillennials don’t have it easy, it can feel like you don’t even have two coins to rub together to make rent (don’t even think about owning property,) but simultaneously you have single-handedly wiped out half the industries on the planet. No power, great responsibility.
The “Millennial Misery” Instagram page shares funny, relatable, and perhaps painful memes about those born between 1981-1996. So get comfortable with your favorite latte or some avocado toast as you scroll through, be sure to upvote your favorite memes and comment your thoughts and experiences below. We got in touch with Jamie Jackson, the page’s administrator and creator to learn more.

Bored Panda got in touch with Jamie Jackson, the person behind “Millennial Misery” to learn more about the page, why it was created, and their thoughts on being a millennial. So we started by asking what actually inspired the creation of the page.
“I created a corporate meme page called @Humorous_Resources first but being an elder millennial myself, I had nostalgia content I wanted to create and share. Millennials have really experienced some pretty wildlife events growing up and we could all use a little humor to survive the trauma.”
If I could borrow my body as a teenager even just for a day, I'd be happy.
Naturally, we were curious to hear what they believed set millennial humor and life apart. “We (millennials) love to make fun of ourselves. From our fashion to our lack of money to afford a home from all the avocado toast we eat! Millennials have received blame for killing so many things from department stores to the doorbell – I love joking about the idiocrasy of it all.”
Remind them of that when they're old enough to ask to borrow your (gas) car...
Despite being, in theory, a very niche brand of content, millennial humor is wildly popular online, so we wanted to hear the admin's insights into why this was the case. “Millennials love to submerge themselves in nostalgia, I believe it makes us feel safe like we are kids again. It’s not about your political stance, religion, or race – it’s about remembering the innocence of our childhood.”
So they'll teach us how to do drugs because "knowing how and knowing the consequences will keep you safe" but they won't teach us how sex works because "knowing how and knowing the consequence will make you do it"?
You're applying logic to conservatism, it doesn't work like that
Load More Replies...Hahaha. Underrated comment. You win the internets for the day.
Load More Replies...I was always told that, one day at a party, I will be offered my first drugs for free! I'm still waiting for this day to come (btw. I was never offered drugs anywhere, free or otherwise)
These cops don’t know false advertising is a CRIME
Load More Replies...D.A.R.E- To resist drugs and violence, that's the slogan that was on my t-shirt IIRC..Also who remembers Stuff McGruff the crime dog??
"Gruff McGruff, Chicago, Illinois, 60652--and help take a bite outta crime"
Load More Replies...My DARE instructor told us we could get high if we "sucked the air out of a can of whipped cream". At the end of the day the grocery store next to the school was sold out.
I remember hearing about "coke" for the first time: "Don't do it." "What does it do?" "Gives you confidence and energy, make you the most popular person in the room, but you'll die." "Yeah...but about the popularity thing..."
They also gave us T-shirts I assume to identify us to everyone as the lame narc kids.
Yet everyone I know myself included wore them while doing drugs
Load More Replies...My friend and I tried to steal the briefcase of drug samples when we were 15.
The way they explained lsd to 12 yr old me was funny, I couldn’t wait to try this drug when I got older, and I did, and I loved it, thanks police ❤️ I’m an artist and they said in class - if you take this Bart Simspon paper with lsd your cartoons will come to life - well f**k me he wasn’t wrong 😝
Yea, our generation got hit with D.A.R.E and Just do it! Really confusing times
My parents said “if you're going to do any drug do marijuana but not too much” 💀
Yep. They could have shown us the outcome of what drugs do to people were. Like what teeth look like from a method head. The unhealthy overly skinny bodies with sores on it. The I lost my mind part of the situation. The parts were people do unimaginable tasks together the drugs. Many kids weren't sheltered to beging with. If you show the effect, nobody will want to be in that situation. When the emt came to our school and shown grafic photos of someone in an accident that weren't waring a seat belt look like, every kid in mu class on Monday said that they stared waring their seatbelts.
Yup the police officer actually introduced me to my future pot dealer. I never did thank him though 😔
They shouldn't have had the people whose job depended on drug users to be around to teach about the dangers of drug use.
They made us curious. They also promised a lot of things that the actual drugs couldn't deliver ... not even close to. We were disappointed. Also, nobody starting shooting up Heroin after trying out weed, at least not within the next few years. Something about what they told us might have been slightly off, I think... But, within a week after Drug Ed in 6th grade, we tried weed for the first time. Would have taken another year or two otherwise, I honestly think...
But they also had the sleekest cars in town painted in D.A.R.E. colors. Drug dealers cars that had been confiscated during cases against some of the high end dealers.
One time in highschool they made us watch a video about ecstasy. At the end of the video my take away was the drug is super fun and ultimately safe so long as ya stay hydrated and it isn't cut. I left wanting to try it. XD
Yeah, they gave me a lifelong fascination with hallucinogens, hilariously...
This is one of the funniest Saturday Night Live skits ever. DARE program gets derailed by an adolescent girl with a leadership personality: "Shallon: drug safety"
DARE was a complete failure, but, at the very least, they RECOGNIZED it as a total failure.
I remember those stupid googles that made you appear drunk...I walked like a drunk without them.
I was the dare program, scared the s**t out of the teacher and had a lovely conversation with the officers afterwards. They thought my parents were involved in drugs it was really because I wanted to be a cop so I explored and asked questions till I got answers from adults
my fourth grade teacher helped cops with a DARE program, she made it in the newspaper
I read an anti-drug book that gave me tutorials on how to make jello shots and the most effective way to huff paint
Uk here we also did a day of death by electricity, fire and drugs ect... Called Crucial Crew... Each room in a warehouse was set out as a crime scene with realistic sounds/smells and videos.. They also locked you in prison cells... I will never forget that little girl on the scooter being ran over then trying to revive her.. 👀 😳 We were just 8years old. And yes I am traumatised lmao
Because of DARE and my severe lack of drug knowledge I thought my parents drinking a coke (coca cola) while driving was going to get us killed.
The only drug I ever did anyway I can get in multiple forms at my local dispensary. Gotta ask Officer Fitzgerald how he feels about that next time I see him.
I remember one of the cops telling me about what people can see and feel on LSD and my first thought was, "that's so cool!"
If you are interested in more humor of this type, check out their other pages on TikTok, Twitter, and Facebook. You can also find “Humorous Resources” here and the very niche Horrendous HR here. Feel free to give them a follow and remember that DM’s are open if you want to submit a meme. But despite the plethora of memes, debates about being a millennial and their “impact” still rage online.
While the presence of gen x on one end and gen z on the other helps establish who millennials are in terms of age, there is obviously still some confusion for people born right at the cusp of one or another. This is where terms like “zillennial” come into play. But age is actually one of the defining characteristics of a millennial, as currently many have been adults long enough that it’s impossible to hide behind the shield of youth.
Sometimes we got it in Hungary, too. We were so scared we immediately made a copy of the VHS to warn our friends :D
By one’s thirties, which most if not all millennials already are, there is this pressure to know who you are, and to have an established career and life, but let’s face it, the world has been going from one chaotic event to another nonstop for half a decade now (or longer, depending on where you are from) with the result that most millennials simply do not feel their age. This normally is a blessing, but as usual, a monkey’s paw is curled somewhere.
One thing millennials can pride themselves on is being the first, truly digital native generation. While gen z may be at the cutting edge of understanding content and social media, asking them to delve into the depths of their computer will often be met with blank stares. Perhaps this skill is just not that important, but millennials have had a tough turn of the millennium, they should at least get a consolation prize.
I feel like I need to be lifted into bed like that these days. I'm 33....
Live in Colorado. The day before Ramsey was killed, a black girl the same age got killed the exact same way but her parents weren't rich white people in Boulder. When Lou Smit, the detective on the Ramsey case, was asked about a possible connection, he replied that they didn't have the manpower to contact the other girl's parents. Her case is also still unsolved.
Only thing better than a crisp sandwich is a fish finger sandwich.
