Honestly, I would never vote for Doug Ford. He *is* part of the reason why things even got as bad as they did here in Toronto, but I gotta say... he could have gone one of two ways on this: the Trump way, or the Canadian way. He chose the latter. He is graduated in my books from "Go away forever" to "I generally don't like your politics or your policies and I will oppose you at every opportunity, but we could have a beer together".

I agree about the mindset difference (I'm also CDN). I also think it's madness to vest so much power in one man. Their system of supposed "checks and balances" and undemocratic electoral college have allowed all their institutions to be subjugated by a dictator.

Also long lines and wait listed for surgeries etc. how do I know I spoke with a few foreigners (England, Canada, poland and Ukraine)all of them said if you want better care, you pay up. And they prefer the US healthcare system over their own. Sooooo

Sonika, I think you make some excellent points. When you are unwilling to cooperate during a pandemic and your actions harm others (I'm thinking of the people who won't wear masks, such a simple thing such a small sacrifice, because this is a free country and you can't tell me what to do) then you have forgotten that freedom comes with responsibility.

She didn’t consider it sexual assault and said so in interviews. It would probably be considered sexual assault now though, and definitely wasn’t romantic.

@Ben Smith. Well, the story stood for a good part of a century, no matter what anyone said, and since so many men do not seem to get what unacceptable behavior is, it should probably be shared EVEN MORE. You don't get to dictate, with your snide comments, what women do and feel.

That's a very different version of the story from the quotes I am finding. She said it wasn't romantic, but sudden and unexpected .. so not an okay behavior, but he's not grabbing her breasts.

I'm not sure a woman back then would have the same view of what constituted sexual assault. They probably would have thought only of an actual rape. That being said, yes it was. But I don't believe that the intent was to assault, but the person was carried away in the moment of victory. Still wrong, no matter what decade. And Hillary Smith - excellent reply to Ben Smith.
