Everyone can find a way to spend their free time that’s both entertaining and useful to them. The options for this are unlimited, from reading books to exercising and crafts. It all comes down to figuring out what you like so you deem that activity worthy of your time.
As we said, one of these options is crafts. Like knitting and crocheting. That’s what we’re focusing on today. To be more specific: these memes perfectly summarize what it’s like to be an enthusiast of these crafts.

*gasp* THIS is why I've always felt a sense of... accomplishment with knitting... it's now been put in words. YES!
I wish this kind of instructions would help me learning this kind of stuff (handicraft)... but I just don't get them and then throw everything at the wall after 2 minutes :-( too bad, I'd really like to learn such nice things
I've had (still have) a bunch of hobbies, and I suspect that I've not really learnt a new skill until I've produced at least 10 pieces of work where even I can see at least one mistake. "Ever tried? Ever failed? No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better."
Load More Replies...There are lots of little poems to help one remember the steps. My favorite is "Go into the house, grab your scarf, take it outside before the cat barfs."
Yes I can see that, in fact I may never forget it....
Load More Replies...Strange how I feel this would make more sense to me having never tried knitting before.
Here I sit. Surrounded by ufo's (unfinished objects). Wasting time with this stuff.
oh.. but that's still a good one... for me, it looks like there's this deflated watermelon sitting beside a massive pile of yarn-guts.
I am so there. I have more yarn pulled from the skein than what is left in the skein.
I have a ball winder that does this. I don't know how it works, but it does.
While, sometimes, people tend to think that crocheting and knitting are the same thing, they actually are not. Basically, the many differences lie in the processes. For instance, knitting is done by two needles, while crocheting is done by one. Also, knitting moves sets of live stitches from needle to needle, and crochet works with one live stitch at a time.
Both of these crafts work with yarn and can create various objects, from sweaters and scarves to dolls or home accessories. The sky's the limit.
A whole basket full of shawls completely done but for the end weaving. Some so old I don't even remember knitting them.
Ah, I show things to my mother, she says, I can tuck those ends in for you now if you like
Load More Replies...My craft room is also the home office, the library, the ironing room, and Mr Auntriarch's shoe collection. It's not a good solution, which is why my sitting room is now covered in balls of wool and patterns
Load More Replies...Bored Panda reached out to Norman from “Nimble Needles.” Norman has been knitting for over 30 years, so we asked him some questions about this hobby.
He said that the most fulfilling aspect of knitting for him is the process itself: “It’s almost like meditation to me, and it really helps me to unwind in the evening.”
Norman believes that planning every knitting project with your time constraints is a must: “If you know that you will be very busy the next month, I personally would pick a smaller project. Otherwise, it can quickly lead to frustration.”
Yet, sometimes, when he feels frustrated with a project’s challenges, he doesn’t overanalyze it. He declared that it’s a hobby. It should bring joy, and if there’s a period where it doesn’t -- it’s not the end of the world.
Unless it's a big mistake, just let it be and say, "that's how you know it was hand made and not on a big machine."
but only I will notice it and it will haunt my days forever!
Load More Replies...I don't make mistakes in knitting, ever. I make unique stylizations and artistic changes which make a piece truly my own.
this :-D i dont believe in God but thats what i say when it happens :-)
Load More Replies...That’s what makes handmade so wonderful. Also, there are cultures that deliberately produce a flaw in everything they make. Perfection draws the Devil’s eyes, you see?
Frog it. You'll notice the mistake every time you wear it, and it will drive you crazy.
4 Happy, 3 neutral, 2 not pleased at all. I'd say overall Grandma did good!
Unfortunately, some people still believe that knitting is only for old people or women. Norman debunked this claim, saying that, for centuries, knitting was a predominantly male occupation. As a matter of fact, women weren’t even allowed in medieval knitting guilds.
He also added that in today's world, he feels things like this shouldn’t be restricted to any social group: “I find the very idea that any hobby or craft was limited to a certain age group or gender preposterous.”
yeah why buy it ?when grandma can make one nothing like this
But is is made out of plastic and will not last a season much less a lifetime. And every stitch that is knitted with the $200 worth of yarn is made with lots of love, curses and wine. So much better than just handing over a ten dollar note.
Love, Curses and Alcohol... the 3 staple ingredients necessary for anything homemade, from cooking to crafting and everything in between.
Load More Replies...If you could buy one made with the $200 quality yarn, it would cost twice the price, still be made by underpaid workers, and be too long in the sleeves
Load More Replies...A machine run by little children in a sweatshop.
Load More Replies...Because usually the one that's 9.99 is made out of the most disgusting feeling, cheap acrylic that will look good for approximately 2 wears before pilling and matting so badly that it's unwearable. If I make it, I can use wool or viscose or cotton that doesn't feel like I'm rubbing a bin bag on my skin.
The $200 yarn is probably much better quality, real cotton or wool instead of recycled rubbish. The garment was made by you instead of by a semi-slave worker in a sweatshop in China, Bangladesh or wherever. It's unique, it fits you perfectly and you can choose the exact colour, thickness, length, etc. Yours, if you get good quality materials, will last forever, while the cheap one from the shop will start to lose shape and colour after the second wash. The process of making it will help your brain and your hands to keep active, and, if it's a hobby and your next meal doesn't depend on finishing a certain number of pieces every day, it's relaxing.
With that $200, you are not only buying a sweater, you are buying hours of entertainment, fun, and sense of accomplishment.
Inconthseevable!” “I do not think that means what you think it does!
Load More Replies...Yes, but first I'll put it off until that yarn has been discontinued at least 2 years.
For those who worry that knitting might be a dying hobby in the current times, Norman has some good news. He thinks that there wasn’t a single time in history when knitwear was consumed as much as in these days. “Go to any cloth store, and you will find knitted garments. A lot of people may forget that even a jersey is a knitted fabric. In the case of luxury labels, some of their knitwear will even be hand-knitted or hand-crocheted.”
Knitting can also be an answer to the fast-fashion dilemma. As Norman said, it can reintroduce value into people’s wardrobes: “If you’ve spent 40 hours knitting a sweater, you probably won’t discard it at the end of the season. And being aware of that fact, you will spend more time on picking a material that will last and a design that will still be relevant next year.”

Girl math is taking advanced algebra a year early and then turning my template and my amount of each colour of yarn into an impulsive unsolvable equation with exponents and variables.
Not me. Obsessive Compulsive Aspie girl knitter here. Always swatch.
Could be. Can compare yarns, colors, thread count/weight, color batch against color batch, finishing techniques. My co-mother in law quilts, I do old fashioned embroidery (copy photos in threadwork, , heirloom christening gowns, tapestry work, rare cross stitch (prize piece was 5’ by 2,5’) are seriously bonding and rivaling with our 9f grandchild who was given a sewing machine as our skills are different but complimentary.
That sounds like a wonderful environment for the grandchild!
Load More Replies...Crochet is like tying a series of knots, and knitting is more of a continuous set of loops depending from one row to the next. I don't know a single crocheter who doesn't correct the person that calls it knitting. Kind of a sensitive comparison.
I knit and crochet. Both have their place. Irish crochet is one of the most intricate fiber crafts there is. That said, I do prefer knitting.
We call 'em WIPs (works in progress) or UFOs (unfinished objects).
This is me for any craft. Should I finish one of the other hundreds of crafts I have already started? Absolutely not, just start something new. Joys of being ADHD!
My biggest fear: finishing a project and having nothing else to work on.
The older I get the more I avoid those fluffy, feathery, fancy yarns for that precise reason. Besides being dam near impossible to pull out a mistake, keeping track of stitches you can’t see gives me heartburn…
every now and then i forget that "frog it" only make sense with knitters and crocheters and not with normal people :-D
It's not a mistake, it's a design element. Or a gesture to the Goddess of Crochet to keep her from cursing us for the presumption of perfection. We'll call it an Arachne's stitch.
Does "frog" in this context mean "un-knit"? I didn't know there was a word for it. The funny thing about foreign languages is sometimes you learn big words with complex meanings, and then, when you need to talk about really simple, everyday stuff, you can't find the right words.
Sort of but it's kind of niche and if you aren't a knitter or crocheter then unlikely you would have come across it whatever your native language is. To unknit, that is to undo the knitting stitch by stitch to work back to a mistake, is "tink" or "tinking" which is knit backwards.
Load More Replies...Was thinking that knitting and no cats seemed odd, somehow
Load More Replies...Yes, but with additional bag of wool on the floor by my seat
Load More Replies...this is part of a stupid tiktok trend of cutting things in half to "save for later" most of the time it makes the item go to waste cause that half tube of paint will go hard and this wool can't be used for knitting and crochet now. Could use it for stufffing.
Load More Replies...Wrap some tinfoil over the cut, so it doesn't get dry when you put it back into the fridge!
I'm sorry but that's a crime. Someone needs to be in craft jail for this.
This makes me angry. But you could make some yarn tassels with the cut side!
Still useful for: pom poms, fringing, cut pile and loop pile carpets, candle wicks, paint brush, follow me for more totally useless ideas.
Load More Replies...Yeah, and most of the time they are ‘fake-knitting’, or knitting so slow it’s impossible they have achieved this beautiful long scarf
Haha I still do that. And my mother gives me the stink eye, but she still knits the hat. In 15 minutes. With a duck on it. Cos she remembers I once said my friend likes ducks. Yes my mother is a legend
my mother handmade almost all of me and my brother's halloween costumes. She's a wonderful knitter, crocheter, seamstress, and quilter, and I hope I'll manage to follow somewhere close to her footsteps.
Load More Replies...I would just like to point out that that sweater is crocheted, not knitted.
It's good to know I'm not alone... even though I never put down my needles long enough to go out and meet other knitters.
Remember when so many women decided to knit Püssy Hats that there was a nationwide shortage of pink yarn?
So why are knitting memes headlined as "possibly lol-worthy"? Don't think I've seen that on other meme lists, ever. Also too many references to "grandma" (such an overused stereotype), and the only mention of men knitting is the one with Jennifer Coolidge talking about "gays."
So Bilbo and Gollum aren't men? Most of them don't directly mention women either...
