We’ve all been there — our parents do something so embarrassing that we can’t help but cringe and hide our faces. But after an hour or two, we calm down and we realize that we may have overreacted. What’s more, we realize that we’ll probably end up with a few embarrassing stories for our kids as well. It’s just the natural order of things. But some kids can’t forgive their parents for what they’ve done, and went for public shaming online for their ‘insane’ behavior.

Behold! Here’s a list of the craziest, most jaw-droppingly, and unbelievably crazy stories kids have chosen to shame their parents online for, all found on the popular Insane Parents subreddit, which has lots of bad parenting stories. From overprotective parents tracking your location on dates to asking for money, there’s hardly a kid alive who could stand for this nonsense! So upvote your faves, share with your friends, and drop us a comment below. Oh, and scroll down to read our interviews with the head moderator of the Insane Parents subreddit, a Redditor whose mother put cameras in their bedroom, and another Reddit user whose mom asked for a huge loan!

We know you like our awesome posts about parenting and raising kids, so also be sure to check out our lists about the funniest parents ever, jerk parents who ruined their children’s lives, and the times parents shared the most messed up things their kids have done.

Sometimes Insane Is Just A Birth Defect!

hooman26 Report

Now, some of us have heard our parents joke about how they’ll install security cameras in our rooms if we can’t behave ourselves. Well, that’s exactly what one Reddit user’s mother did. Fortunately, the internet user didn’t give in. They wrote online that they’re doing something about it: “I've got into the account she’s using for the camera and disabled playback and sound recording. I'm also trying to move the camera to a point where it doesn't actually see anything.”

“If you haven't done anything to provoke [putting up] cameras or helicopter parenting, then I'm pretty sure you can call CPS [Child Protective Services] and they will help,” the Redditor told Bored Panda some advice on what to do in situations like this one.

Well that's a nice start she's giving her daughter. I looked Monat up and it's just another pyramid scheme that sells useless hairproducts. The mother will end up with a shedload of "hair care" products and the daughter will pursue a career in the fastfood business. Nice going, mom.

My Mom Is Putting Up Cameras In My Room Now

My Mom Is Putting Up Cameras In My Room Now

The Reddit user talked to Bored Panda about the unusual situation: “My mother is out quite a bit, so maybe that was the reason she put up the camera. Maybe she felt that she needed to watch me while she was out, but she never told me the exact reason.” They also said that they have “already confronted” their mother “with the argument that what she's doing is illegal and an invasion of privacy. So now I've taken them down and plan to keep taking the cameras down if she puts up more.”

Meanwhile, Redditor CHIEFXx posted how their mother asked for a 600 dollar loan, even though they work a minimum wage job.

“My advice for others dealing with the same [crap] is to just push through it. If you know you’re right then you’re probably right. Don’t get pushed around, stand up for yourself and make your feelings known, regardless of how your parents may feel,” the Reddit user explained their thoughts to Bored Panda.

Another mind-boggling case of ‘insane’ parenting happened to Reddit user TheCityKitten, who couldn’t believe that their father was tracking them while they were out on a date.

Anyone else here a parent? Cuz I have 4 kids. And the oldest is 40. (I have 5 grandkids too.) Being a parent is HARD. You love them and you worry about them. But you cannot cannot control them. You have to teach kids by setting a good example of how to live, not by spying on them. That shuts down open communication.

I'm a parent and yes I would have location on my kids' phones. I have one with a cell phone actually right now. He is aware of it. He also knows that I absolutely respect his privacy and would only use it in case of emergency or a real need. Yes being a parent is hard and everyone in the world will tell you how to do it. Just like anything else there are good parents and not so good ones. Having technology to do something doesn't mean you have to abuse it either. Case in point the dad that shot up the laptop. I have a gun but i would never do what he did. That's being irresponsible and abusing your authority/power/resources

parents are not just "people." they're your parents, and they have absolutely every right to know where you are at all times. you're their child. i dont understand the outrage but this must be one of the latest left wing trends. there is reasonable outrage over some of the legitimately bad parenting in this article like the mom who wasted her money on weed and xboxes and put her power bill in her daughters name, but i dont understand why you guys are attacking a parent for wanting to know where their daughter is. if i had a daughter i know i would want to know where she is too, especially with all these nasty teenage guys around these days who take advantage of young girls

How in the world did parents raise their children to be responsible adults before cell phone tracking? I was the oldest of 6 kids and I parented 4 children (now parents themselves), so I've been there on both sides. Emergencies, yeah, right. It's all about control.

I can understand wanting location turned on regarding children's phones just in case. Hopefully never need a reason to have to look at it, which I never had to. It does not mean for a parent to abuse it like this parent obviously does by stalking. Also, he is not trusting his daughter, but he sure is setting up for her to not trust her dad.

I agree. I have tracking enabled on my daughter's phone but I've never checked it. I haven't had a reason to. But it is peace of mind for both of us that I could find her in an emergency. I don't like being pessimistic or paranoid but what if she ended up in an unsafe situation? What if she makes a bad choice and doesn't know where she is? This way, if she's not home on time and not responding to me, I can find her. I don't use it to spy on her, it's a safety precaution

So my husband and I have 2 grown kids. We had rules but were never overly strict with them and gave them them a lot of freedom and trust. We have friends who also have 2 kids. They were a lot more strict and restrictive with their kids. My kids are 26 and 24. My son son (24) was valedictorian hos high school class, served 3 years in the army is currently in college for astrophysics and in a long term relationship with a girl he's known since middle school. My daughter (26) was almost valedictorian of her class (she didn't want to give a speech), is currently in school to be a psychologist, happily married to a high school history teacher, donated a kidney to me, became a mother this year and with her husband is a homeowner. Our friends kids are 17 and 19. Their youngest has been in and out of mental hospitals for the past several years. She has a track record of lying about any and everything including accusing her brother of molesting her. He's currently inderninvestigation for inces

Part 2 our friends son denies the accusations and I tend to believe him. He has attitude problems and anger issues and will barely graduate high school. His parents currently have him enrolled in an unaccredited Christian school. My whole point here is that raising a child with a lot of rules and in a very strict environment doesn't guarantee that they will do well or succeed any better or be better people or have any better morals than kids who's parents don't shelter them or who are given trust and more freedom growing up. My kids knew what was expected of them as far as how to treat people and how to behave. We taught them right from wrong.

Well, in the parent's defense....I'm betting they wouldn't be tracking the kid if they didn't have a reason. My kids didn't lie to me because we live in a small town and my oldest learned the only time he tried that, when I asked him where he had been, I already KNEW. He later told his brother "Don't ever lie to mom because if she asks you a question she already KNOWS the answer." LONG before cell phones became ubiquitous.

As the mother of an 18 yr old, this is not okay. My daughter is on our iPhone "find my phone" family location app, but it is only ever used in an emergency. The three times I have used it, is when she was walking home and got caught in a storm and wasn't sure of the road she was on, when she went out partying with friends, got drunk (she's legal drinking age in this country) and couldn't remember the address of the house when she wanted me to pick her up, and when I hadn't heard from her after 3 hours into a first date - and that one was pre-arranged; in every instance I had her permission. How are we supposed to expect them to grow into healthy adults if we won't loosen the apron strings?

If I was a parent of a teenage girl on a date, I'd want to know where my kid was, too, and if they were safe. If they told me they were going to a movie, but their location says they're in the middle of the woods, I'd want to know about that. There are thousands of missing girls in that age range out there. I wouldn't grill them like this though. That's too much and of course they're going to push back. I'd want it as a safety measure only. How old is the "child"? If they are 12, keep a sharp eye on them, always know where they are. If they are 16, keep tabs, but give them a lot of freedom, unless they are working to regain your trust after some very poor decisions (legal troubles). If they are 18, they are adults, LET IT GO.

Uh. No. The father should take a chill pill and stop worrying about if his daughter is getting laid by a teenage boy or not. Either he raised her right (probably not,) and she's not going to until she's ready, or he didn't and the only thing this kind of stalking is going to do is push her further away.

I always let my parents know where i am when I'm out, not a big deal. You wouldn't be hiding such unless you were doing something wrong? It's all safety measures. Your parents know the last place you were if something bad happened to you, and it lets the company you keep know not to do any funny business because your communication is good with your family

We can understand why kids would be ashamed of their parents when they monitor them or ask for ridiculously large loans. But why is it that kids are embarrassed by their parents in general? Well, Fatherly writes that this embarrassment usually starts appearing between 9 and 13 years of age, right when a major shift in attitude occurs. As kids become more independent and try to figure out the ‘rules of the game’ in society, they reject what their parents stand for.

Meanwhile, Empowering Parents suggests that parents shouldn’t take things personally when kids act up and should give their offspring some space grow. And, whatever happens, we can all agree that setting up cameras in someone’s room should be avoided at all costs.

My mom told me to "stop pretending" and "stop having an existential crisis at such a young age" when I told her I was struggling with depression. I will never forgive her for making me feel worse when she should've made me feel better. Never told her about my anxiety attacks either. Once she saw me having an attack and just kept saying "what's wrong" in a very authoritarian tone. I didn't even want to tell her.

Ok, I'm going to step out here and I know a lot of people with get mad at this. I am Christian, and a strong believer. It is my life not just a faith. BUT, even the bible states to give with a cheerful heart. Meaning, if you are FORCED to donate time, money, effort, ANYTHING then it is useless. You volunteer that time gladly, willingly, and of your own free will without any reservation. There is no negative for not doing so other than you may regret being so busy later (and...maybe not). There is only judgement shown here for one person being LOGICALLY unable or unwilling to donate their time. Acknowledge this and move on, a guilt trip like this person did is very un-christian like behavior.
