Welcome to r/EntitledKids! The subreddit where people share stories about all the spoiled and whiny children they encounter. It's hard to accurately describe its menu, but here you will find a range of behaviors that vary from small daily displays of spoiled-ness (trying to blow out your sibling's candles on their birthday) to full-on schemes (ordering $300 worth of toys without your parents knowing) that are supposed to get the world dancing according to your tune. Here are some of the all-time most-upvoted posts you can find on the sub!

Saw This On Facebook Today, Made Me Giggle A Bit

queenboogie67 Report

Parenting expert Amy McCready calls this type of behavior “The Me, Me, Me Epidemic,” and believes it happens in tiny little ways every single day, even when parents aren't conscious of it.

"We've all known kids (maybe even in our own families) who feel entitled to have things go their way, who expect the best of life without rolling up their sleeves, and for whom gratitude is not a part of their attitude," McCready wrote in TODAY

"While these kids can be hard to live with now, over-entitled kids eventually become high-maintenance employees and demanding spouses with the same childish attitudes, only on a greater scale. It’s a big problem because kids who feel entitled to call the shots all the time are unable to handle it when things don’t go their way (like here in the real world)."

The good news? She says it's totally curable.

I wouldn't call this guy entitled, he is to young to understand how selfish he is. If his parents won't let him get away with it, he will be just fine.

"While we can point fingers and blame social media, reality TV, and a host of other outside influences, one of the biggest factors in the spread of this 'epidemic' is us — the parents," McCready explained.

Of course, moms and dads want the best for their kids and none of them intend to raise an entitled child, but McCready believes that often in their loving attempts to do the best for their little ones, people over-parent.

"We over-indulge, over-praise, and mow down any obstacle in their path with ninja-like swiftness. And when we do? We rob kids of the opportunity to do for themselves, learn from mistakes, or overcome adversity."

It IS ILLEGAL! It's called destruction of private property and the store owner can total up the cost of damaged goods and sue the parents for it. More than $500 in my state is a criminal offense.

Easy solution, grab a couple of carts, fill them with all the items and invoice he parents. They are okay with the kids playing with the toys, then they bought them.

And above all..I have 2 kids (2y.o and 5 y.o) ..the NEVER touch anything in shop without my consent..I tell them "until we pay it it's not yours ,you will oper it when we are outside the shop" ..no opening of toys , no eating of food.. if a 2 years old can understand it without tantrum every child could.. the few time they tried to make a scene, we left the shop, it lasted very little... and I NEVER leave my children unsupervised...my children, my responsibility

As someone who works retail, there is a smidge of blame to be put on the store. Obviously the workers can't be everywhere monitoring everyone, but the fact they let it get to half that point is a little on them.

I do a lot of thrift shopping and have seen aisles like this. It isn't caused by one kid or one family. It is more a chain reaction where one kid didn't put something away, but it isn't a huge mess and no one thinks anything of it. The next kid comes along and starts to play, then another, and because no one put anything away, they don't think they need to either. Enough kids and it eventually culminates into this. My bet is that it took most of the day for the aisle to descend into that chaos.

I’ve definitely been in stores where the huge mess was caused by one family. Usually the parent is just like “go play in the toy section” and the one or two kids decides to pull everything off the shelf.

I swear there needs to be some sort of application or test in order to be allowed to conceive and be a parent. Some people should definitely not be allowed to have and raise another human being.

a little off-topic fun fact; people used to have to fill out requests for reproduction, to be reviewed by the king. the paperwork, called 'fornication under the consent of the king,' became the beautiful acronym we still use today.

Keep in mind that this probably isn't one kid, but all the kids over the course of an entire day. Yes your kid should not make a mess/clean up after themselves, but it's unrealistic to expect a parent to clean the whole lane just because their kid walked down it. I've not seen thrift stores like this, but usually Marshall's/ Burlington are disaster zones like this.

If i even tried to do that when I was young, I'd be dragged out of the store by my ear. My parents wouldn't let me even roll my eyes at them. Look where I am now though. The parents that let their kids scream and carry on until they get something are ruining their children. Sterner parents are good.

I don't understand this at all, much like parents who let their kids trash a restaurant and leave the mess for the staff b/c "it's their job." Everytime I let my son play with toys like this, he picks up. We leave things as we found them and sometimes, in better shape.

I used to work at a Walmart in Toys section and my departments assistant manager would always respond to this by informing the parent that they can either clean it up with their kid or he would call assets protection and have them charged with destruction of merchandise and let me tell you LEGOs are not cheap. Are we all in agreement that the perfectly calm child in the middle had probably nothing to do with the shredded toys everywhere? A child that created that much destruction Is not in control, and would likely be on the floor crying after. Also, it appears to be a thrift store? Note how parts for things are in ziploc baggies? Perhaps many children played in the aisle that day, and their entitled PARENTS didn’t require that they clean up.

This has to be a ROSS DRESS FOR LESS in the U.S. I say this because I've personally experienced seeing this chaos in person. I don't understand how parents think it's ok to treat any store as their personal toy bin so they can shop then proceed to leave a disaster in the end. My kids always wanna look at the toys at ROSS and are gobsmacked when they see how the "Toy AISLE " was left before they got to see anything. This just a shame. 😒

Here you have to pay for a item if you take it put of the box without asking the employee flrst (include makeup. If you don't see a tester you can't open one yourself without paying for it). I thought it was like that everywhere. I mean it should be. Look at all these toys, taking out of the box, they can't even sell it... The parents of the brat who did this should paid for every single thing AND clean this mess up! WTH is wrong with some parents, where is this okey to do??

That took a LONG time to do. I have 4 very wild children and we have to work very hard to keep them corralled while we shop-it is a continuous, exhausting effort until they grow out of it, but you just do it and shopping just takes twice as long-that’s how it is with kids. Even so if I spaced out I still can’t imagine them doing this. I can’t imagine how long the child must have been left alone to be able to do this-this person has a neglected child and was not prepared for parenting…

I work at a thrift store and once I was putting away toys in the toy section and a little guy, about four, started helping me. I said "Thank you so much for helping." I also think that if we could play "Clean up, Clean up, everybody everywhere," a song we sang when I taught preschoolers in the toy aisle, we'd get some kids to clean.

Ohhhhh you can even ask my daughter No Way in Hell would She have ever even tried that she knew if she did she would never be allowed to go shopping or anywhere with me in public again her choices would have been stay home with a sitter, go to a friend of mine who had 3 daughters older than her so pecking order well established or no one goes until we run out of everything period Good behavior gets rewarded this shhh stuff here nope no tolerance AND I'd ask store management if we could stay and clean it up and if there was a damages bill I would need it itemized and she would have to earn the money (on my cousins farm) to pay for it herself ... kids learn fast when you make them pay for things themselves

Parents leave their kids in the toy department when they go off to finish their shopping. It's not a day care center but they don't care...they just have peace and quiet while the kids destroy the toy department. If any department needed locked cabinets this is it. Look but don't touch.

I don't understand how that family was allowed to get away with that. Was no one working in the store at the time? I've worked in Retail as well. If you open something, and take the content out of the packaging you are required to buy it. That kind of situation is why stores have managers. Why is everyone so down on thrift stores? I've been in many of them and never seen a mess like that. More like the Dollar store. I have seen some of those stores look about that bad

If they had a security camera there, I would have followed their progress through the store and when they checked out, gotten their information, and sent them a bill with pictures attached with a note 'pay for the damage or see you in court'. I would imagine the rest of the store doesn't look too good either. Here's a tip, if you see something like this in a store call the local fire department. I did to complain about Joann's some years ago and the fire department was waiting the next day for the store to open! Joann's has been clean and organized in our town ever since.

There need to be new laws that if you don't supervise your kids and let them do this you go to jail for destruction of property and your kids to CPS. And the first one to yell 'do you know how awful cps is'... I hope you realise what making that comment says about your personal parenting skills. Good lord I'm genuinely starting to hate humanity.

Stupid parents. There are those rope barriers There for a reason.

    View more comments

For everyone's sake, McCready suggests considering these five strategies:

    1. Expect more and give your kids some credit. "They can and SHOULD make meaningful contributions to the family. Expect your toddlers to teens to do Family Contributions (not “chores”) on a daily basis and expect them to take on increasing amounts of responsibility through the years. After all, they are part of the family and everyone’s contributions matter. When you hold your kids to a higher standard, they WILL meet it — and often exceed it. What they’ll get in return will be life skills they need to head out into the world as happier, more successful and self-sufficient human beings. And you? You get to know that you helped to make that happen. (Way to go!)"

    2. Give up on giving in. "Do you ever say YES when you really want to say No? Cave at the candy counter at checkout? Pacify with the treat when your kid is throwing a fit? It’s time to turn over a new leaf and have the courage to say “NO” and mean it! You’ll teach your kids that life won’t always go their way and that’s OK. You’ll be establishing — and sticking — to healthy boundaries. And your little ones and big ones will learn that fit-throwing, eye-rolling, and pouting isn’t going to do the trick. Now, for all of you who struggle with this — repeat after me: I’m NOT being a bad guy — I’m being a good PARENT. You can do this!"

I would have tried to return them or donated them just to teach a lesson. Although I'm curious to know how kids are purchasing things online? If a child can do it, what's stopping others who may get hold of your phone. Not very secure.

    3. Hand over the reins. "Every time we rescue our kids from their mistakes, intervene on their behalf, or smooth the way so things are easier for them, we rob them of a learning opportunity — the chance to be responsible, to figure it out for themselves, or to face a scary situation. Little by little they just stop trying. It’s time to hand over the reins to their rightful owner. Instead of rushing the homework to school so your kids don’t get in trouble, let them know with love (and plenty of training so they can be successful) that it’s their responsibility to remember what they need each day."

Instead, let them know that having their own conversations with teachers, coaches, and peers about issues that arise is a powerful part of growing up. "You can help prepare them by role-playing so THEY can have respectful conversations and learn problem-solving skills," McCready said.

"Trust in your kids’ ability and turn over the reins so they can learn from their successes and failures. You’ll be there to support them — but they’ll feel so much more empowered by handling things on their own without you intervening or rescuing."

    4. Shut down the ATM. "Instant gratification is king in today’s society. 'I want it, I get it. Now.' The best way to fight this phenomenon with our kids is to stop handing over $20 whenever they ask for it."

"Set a specific allowance amount per week and a list of expenses your child is now responsible to cover. Little kids can use allowance for 'treats' when they go to the store, big kids can be responsible for school lunches, school clothing, and entertainment. Allowance is an essential tool to teach delayed gratification and fiscal responsibility — how to spend wisely, save, budget, and give charitably. How will our kids be successful with a real paycheck and bigger expenses if they don’t learn those important life skills at home? Teach them the tools and help them flourish."

    5. Un-center their universe. "The research is clear that those with an 'attitude of gratitude' in life are happier, less depressed, take stress in stride, and see life with healthy optimism. In our over-indulged culture, we know that gratitude takes practice. It’s something we have to teach our kids."

Try to model for kids and let them know the world doesn’t owe anyone anything — we all have to do our part to make it a better place.

"Help kids learn to appreciate their circumstances. When you practice daily gratitude rituals at home, actively seek to do random acts of kindness, and find opportunities to serve others throughout the year (not just during the holidays) — you are helping to set your children and your family on the path to a much more rewarding life," McCready concluded.

Of course, these tips may not solve all your problems. Every child and every situation are different. But they can lead to huge improvements.

I kind of get that it's really hard for a 15 year old who has been an only child for 14 years to suddenly share everything. And I also think it's the parents fault if he or she has to include the sister in every plan. Still, saying something like that is really the worst. But also, kids need to learn and say mean things in the heat of the moment

Something similar happened to me on DeviantArt. Someone stole a painting of mine to pass off as their own, then had the audacity to start attacking me on my page saying I stole THEIR painting. Then they got their little scumbag friends to start attacking me calling me a thief and liar. It got so bad that DA contacted me about it wanting to ban me, until I told them what happened and showed them proof I painted it. Next day the scumbag was banned.

That's not the kids fault. It's the lousy parents who didn't educate their kids AND didn't make them clean the car before they traded it in. But the joke is on them. That's at least $500 less on the trade price for cleaning costs.
