Kids are everything. Their big hearts, tiny heads and overwhelming cuteness are something capable of melting the coldest souls.
But when you’re a parent to one, or two, or a few, things are a little different. The little ones suddenly turn into daredevils, with crazy adventures that never end without consequences and rules that exist only to be broken. In the world of parenting, nothing seems off limits even when the term itself is basically setting the limits in order to raise a great human being capable of achieving big things and making their parents proud. And sometimes, things get creepy.
So today we’re diving deep into the moments when kids really spook their parents. A doll lamp the kid made at his after class that looks like a prop from a Saw movie? Check. A drawing of an imaginary friend? A-ha. A nanny cam record showing a kid dancing in the middle of the night? Yup. Well, at least their lives are far from boring! Psst! To find out about that and other aspects of parenting, Bored Panda spoke with Anisa Lewis, a positive parenting coach who was happy to share some insights.
If a child suddenly starts acting out of the norm, parents should trust their judgment. “It really depends on your child and what it is that they are doing that has alerted you to their different behavior. You know your child best and if you are concerned in any way and the behavior has not changed for the better then it is always best to intervene.”

One night laying in bed, my daughter started talking about the woman in the corner of the room. I felt my blood run cold, but I kept calm and asked her to clarify, "what woman", hoping it was just a misunderstanding. She says "the woman right there. The one with no eyes". I'm like oh hell, no. I was two seconds away from packing us up and having a sleepover at my parents house. Like nope nope nope. Alexa. She was talking about the Echo dot. The woman she talks to with no eyes. 🤦♀️😅

My 7yo got a Michael Myers mask last Halloween. Apparently, he put it in his pack & put it on while we were driving home in the dark. I had no idea. He sits in the backseat. Imagine if you were driving in the dark & pull up next to someone with a mini Michael Myers sitting in the back seat?

“Depending on the age of the child and the behavior, you might wish to start with open-ended questions ‘What is going on for you?’ ‘How can I help?’ as a starting point,” Anisa explained and added that more serious behavior changes may need a different approach.

So we asked Anisa what role it plays in a child's development and how parents can have that quality time. “Quality time with your child is important no matter their age. Anisa explained that parents often believe that they need to give their child hours and hours of time. In fact, that’s not true since “it is the quality of time over the quantity that really matters.” It may be that “ten minutes of focused attention (yes, phones away), leaning into something your child wants to do or being available at the same time every day to chat is just as effective as hours of time spent with them where you are distracted, on your phones or juggling many aspects of your day.”

On the other hand, everyone knows that some parents and children never grow close together. This lack of connection follows them to their adulthood, and rebuilding it may be hard, yet possible. “There is always a possibility to change this when they grow up. It is about communication, listening and forgiveness.”
Anisa also said that reasons that parents and kids never become close could be due to so many reasons: trauma, personalities, life stresses and circumstances. “Healing is two-sided and both need to be willing to do the work in order to change the foundation and boundaries of their relationship,” she concluded.

When I was a kid, the trim in my room began peeling, because my dad used oil paint and maybe didn't prepare it properly underneath. It was fun finding an end and peeling it (when my parents weren't watching). Was a pain when I repainted years later cos I had to do coats and coats of remover in some places still. I never called it skin though...

When my daughter was little, she would hang her Barbie's by the neck from the kitchen chairs. She never really said anything about it, and I never asked. I was just glad she was learning to tie knots. She's 12 in July, and relatively normal these days, and the funniest person I know.

I worked at a group home for developmentally disabled and I would stay the night to find a full grown man standing over my bed. It was creepy but those people were my family (I loved them as family) and he just slept walked but I'm not going to say it didn't creep me out each time.

I was downstairs the other night after everyone was asleep, and I took my glasses off. After a few minutes, I looked up & saw something at the top of stairs. I turned my flashlight on & had a heart attack. It was my son. Another night I came downstairs & my daughter was standing at the entrance of the hallway. I screamed out of terror.

Holy freakin crap you know that was buried because it's cursed right?!! Bury it again. Like right now. Also, for above - a lot of older dolls had solid heads (and sometimes hands and feet) but then had soft cloth bodies) I guess, cheaper, easier, more cuddly and soft for a kid to cuddle. Also disintegrates much more quickly when cursed and buried and infested with mould and moss. Hope that helps!

My brother could catch flies like that, also wasps, and once a large freaking hornet. He kept her for hours. And at first we thought she was dead, as she NOT reacted at all to him petting her!!! Like while he was petting her and talking she didn’t move. Like 20s later she flew away. BUT like an hour later he had her again under a bowl???! I always said he is vermin and that’s why he could do that...

That was entertaining for me. For the most part. I used to be a very weird kid at 3 or 4 years old I developed an obsession with cemeteries. I would make my grandpa take me to different ones so I could look at the headstones. But what I liked is when he would read them to me and I would make up stories about them to myself trying to imagine what their lives must have been like. I still don't know how I became obsessed but I still love graveyards and the peacefulness.

I was a weird kid too. We had these curtains that we took down one day so i took all my barbie dolls and tied them so they were hanging upside down from the rod. It freaked evryone out lol

Lol! My sister's friend once did a very similar thing, I was in the garden and looked up to see my poor barbie dangling from the balcony rail 😬. Freaked me at the time but I get it now lol he and my sis were winding me up 😄 Do u remember why you tied them to the rod, or it was just a fun idea?

So I used to believe in ghost’s so one day (I was about 4 or 5) I went in my basement,then a few hours later I go upstairs for a snack (I loved and still love Cheezits) and I said “mommy I need 2 bags of cheezits” and she said “no just one” and I said but I want to give one to the man in the walls” mom always freaks out when I remind her about it

I'm totally confused. I'm almost 80 and my kids are in the 50s. So children of now are completely outside my expectations. Where do they get it? From TV? or what else. I'm not being critical just surprised. ps I loved it
