National Parks in the state of Georgia are starting to offer these thru the Aimee Copeland Foundation: https://www.ajc.com/inspire/aimee-copeland-helps-bring-outdoors-to-disabled-community/NA6EQZCQZRGHHPIWK75MXVGFAM/ And I believe national parks in other states are starting to as well. Not to discount what this gentleman did for his wife; just wanting to let other people who might not have the same resources know that is starting to become available ❤️

Genius doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, it often isn’t! Often, the very best product designs are the ones that solve the problems that consumers have, whether they’re consciously aware of them or just sure that something is wrong.

The reality is that far from every product designer is in tune with what the end user actually needs or wants. Sometimes, their vision is at odds with practicality.

The solutions themselves don’t have to be marvelous feats of engineering that would wow and dazzle the entire world. All it can take is a slight change to the design: altering the shape, angles, and lines of the item in question to make it more user-friendly.

At the core of ‘Redneck Engineering’ lies simplicity. Redneck engineers (who don’t actually have to be rednecks or even engineers at all) are big fans of Occam’s razor. They take the most straightforward and obvious approach when solving a problem.

Went to high school with a kid who broke his arm playing mailbox baseball. Parents tried to sue and the judge referred the case to the feds (crime up to 3 years in prison and/or $25K for vandalizing a mailbox). Kid ended up getting probation and community service. My dad lived on a country road where this was a common occurence. He and a friend created a mail BOX made out of 1/4" plate steel welded together. Never had an issue after that. He sold the house and gave the mailbox to me and it was all I could do to lift it up to install it on the post (a railroad tie). It must weigh 60 lbs.

I knew some kids in high school who would drive around and throw a grappling hook at mailboxes and rip them off of the posts. One time the grappling hook came flying back at the car. Another version of this "game" is kids putting fireworks in the mailboxes to cause them to explode.

My grandfather did something like this after somebody kept hitting his mailbox with their car. Grandpa made his new mailbox out of a heavy ammo container, put it on a post so that it could swing back and forth, and then filled the post with concrete so it couldn't be knocked over. That way, when someone hit it, the big heavy ammo container would swing back and knock a massive dent in their car! It only got hit one more time after that...

Does someone keep stealing the remote at your local laundromat? Instead of stressing about how you’ll have to work years and years to change how locals approach property rights, you could simply weld a little soap holder over it.

Or if you don’t have a spirit level with you while working on a construction project, you could just use a small bottle filled with some water.

I bought an air mattress. The picture showed a dog standing on it . Pet safe! Yay! It came, I put it on the bed and inflated it. Laid down, very comfortable. Thrilled to death. Nice, solid, padded everywhere but the edges. My two-month old kitten (not Bouche, years ago) went on zoomies and landed horizontally on the edge of the new mattress. The thing hadn't even lived an hour before it was so cruelly put to death. The kitten was tried and convicted of mattress slaughter, and was given a life sentence on apartment arrest.

Redneck engineering is about simplicity. It’s about being straightforward. It’s thinking on your feet and using whatever tools and materials you have at hand to jury-rig your way out of a problem.

It’s humankind summed up incredibly well because it showcases how flexible we can all be when the circumstances demand it. Sure, it might not look pretty! But don’t knock it if it works.

Street food like this almost anywhere is fantastic. In Los Angeles we used to get bacon wrapped hot dogs with bell peppers, chilies, and onions. The only problem I would have that would stop me from purchasing food from vendors like these is if the shopping cart was obviously stolen. (I saw one using a Costco shopping cart and avoided them.) Fortunately, at least in LA, carts were easy to buy new or used from restaurant supply stores and business liquidators. Great little businesses. I have no respect for thieves, but tons for entrepreneurs.

You know, at one point I wanted to start a food truck but ended up not being able to because of the ridiculous amount of regulations and fees associated with doing so, including health inspections and licenses for selling in particular places that you have to get ahead of time before you even drive into a city. And here this guy is with a shopping cart, a cooler and some Tupperware he brought from his house.

I don’t understand why more places and things don’t have built-in adjustable universal phone mounts. Like grocery carts, for example. I use an app to make my grocery shopping list (because I can enter prices and estimate my total bill), and it is a royal pain in the a*s to either try to hold the phone, push the cart, and grab groceries with only two hands, or try to prop it up on my purse and manage to see it without it slipping down into my purse, or worse, risking it falling all the way through the cart to the floor and smashing.

I don’t know? I watched air crash investigation where they’d used the wrong type of tethering system for a vehicle and it still crashed the airplane, killing everyone sadly. It looked more secure than this house too. But I hope they were all safe in their home.

Hopefully the caravan has some way of being raised up in the event of needing the snorkel. I could be wrong, but from the photo it kinda looks like if the air intake is going under water, so is your bed, and all of your possessions. Other than that, I definitely want one also. Pretty sure 4WD recovery airbags would do the job.

We don’t have this problem in the UK. Sometimes it does get VERY windy and you can guarantee there’ll be a trampoline and numerous wheelie bins in the middle of the road.

Tell that to Turkey and Syria. 50,000+ deaths from an earthquake, and the count keeps going up. With a hurricane, you know well in advance and can prepare and evacuate if needed.

Perfect for camping. If you are going to someplace like Sequoia National Park or Death Valley there's not a local charging station. On top of that, the generator runs your other gadgets like the grill or air pump for your inflatable air mattresses.

At least my squirrels and at least two rats eat the hot pellets as well. I just have a dedicated rodent feeder (with a lid so most birds can't figure it out) with monkey nuts, it's the only way they keep away from bird feeders. They all part of wildlife anyway!

You can just buy a squirrel proof feeder. We have one. Unfortunately there's a deer who lives in our woods and she figured out how to empty the whole thing out using her nose. Understandably she's quite popular with the squirrels. They have learned to show up when she does because they know there will be birdseed on the ground. :)

OK, so I'm an elderly Brit. Why would one EVER hot glue anything to a plastic lighter that is full of gas? I'm obviously missing something.

    Alex Boyd
    Community Member
2 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

If I understand it correctly, they didn't hot-glue anything to the lighter--they're using the lighter to melt the hot-glue stick. I guess it would sort of work in a pinch--but it would be a lot harder to use/easier to burn yourself on, and actual hot-glue guns are not expensive, so unless whatever you're using this for is the only thing you plan on hot-gluing ever in your life, I'm not sure what the point is.

real electricians use the water pipes as a ground source when retrofitting old buildings, so this is perfectly fine other than wire size.

    Rostit .

the wire size is fine. A ground wire should never be carrying current during normal use. In a service panel the ground wire is much much smaller than the line and neutral wires.

The power supply for your laptop should be mains-isolated by its nature as a switch-mode power supply. If you are using an power supply other than the one that came with it, it could be a very shoddy non-isolated design.

Perhaps a small attachment on the tool or the belt holder for tweezers/a pair of small tongs? Btw, I'd say make the base of the holder out of sturdy leather and the details of lightweight metal.

In the old days when cars had metal bumpers you could do this trick with one wire. Just touch the two bumpers together and run one wire positive to positive. Takes a while to recharge the dead battery but it works.

We used a very large screwdriver with the end touching the "pole" of the battery and a part of the screwdriver neck touching the side of the metal body. Started right up!

Short explanation is, voltage, not enough of it to shove enough amperage thru your pasty skin to hurt you. Lead/acid car batteries are quite safe to touch.

No, barbed wire is plenty thick as long as your are just charging and not jumping. Connect it up, drink a beer or two and then the battery will be charged enough to start.

Grill at work - they are a. Chef or a cook and it’s just how you do it, you don’t have time to stop and baby it properly, your work environment is already between 45-60•c mid service, the ice cube is perfect for when your sticking your hand over the grill or deep fryer for the rest of service. (Definitely not recommended out side of the industry, and I was treated by Fiona wood herself, so I’m in the know on proper care, but the kitchen is a different world and requires a lot of innovative thinking

I was helping to set up for a bridal shower and I fell and tore a chunk of flesh out of my knee. I refused to go to the dr until we were done (alot of work and too few people) so i put a wad of paper towels on my knee, then wrapped it firmly with plastic wrap and secured it with duct tape so i could help finish setting up. Once we were done I went to the doctor but they couldn't stitch it because too much flesh was missing but they had a good laugh at my makeshift bandage and bandaged it properly for me (took a few months to completely heel but the scar looks like my dad's home country so I'm cool with it)

In a kitchen mid service you don’t have time and you have to keep working over the grill and fryer, it’s the best way to keep doing your job till you finish service to deal with it. Kitchens can get between 40-60•c and you constantly shove your hand over grill into oven and over fryers. It’s the only kitchen solution

Just a note that ice also helps the mosquito itch. I had one mosquito bite the bottom of my foot 3 times. (Obviously had my feet up.) Also my face, but I could deal with that. I'm ticklish and scratching the bottom of my foot was right out, but the itch was unbearable. Foot in a bag of ice. Sweet, sweet relief.

Not in a kitchen, sorry if I’m repeating this everywhere 😆 I was treated by Fiona wood herself. But I also work in kitchens, and mid service this is how you deal with it, your work environment is 40-60c degrees and you still have to put your hand on the grill, in the oven and over the fryer, you don’t have time to deal with it properly till after service. Never met a chef or cook with permanent damage from this and i never met one in the burns ward when I was set on fire. If anything after a few years you develop ‘chef hands’ where the elbow down is pretty much immune from burns, pain and blisters from oil, from repetitive burns on a daily or weekly basis.

Nope Nope Nope. You already did some damage to the skin (how much depends on burn]. Now you want to tape ice to it??? It feels good now but you are further damaging the tissue/nerves. Don't even use cold water.

Oh no. The ice is too much. Luke warm water (or a bit colder, but not very cold. Should be comfortable to touch with intact skin) is better.

You should have a shutoff for that in the basement. Close the valve inside then open the outside spigot and no freezing issues.

Where i live there are no basements. In much of the local area 3 to 6 feet down you hit rocks and caliche. Putting in a basement might be easier with mining equipment orbexplosives. 1 shutoff for the entire house that is located at the street often. In all honesty it has only gotten that cold here about 3 times in the last 50 years.

It's an optical illusion. The taller gate is recessed and the car is parked very close to the fence so the view is blocked. Look how far the back of the car is to the gate to get an idea of how far the front of the car actually is from the gate.

If you can I'd tell him you're going to replace it yourself and take it off your rent the following month. I get maybe waiting a few weeks but if he's collected rent from you and others, he has the money to replace it with a fully working appliance. That's the cost of being a landlord. And document it all because you may end up having to sue him if he says no or tries to keep your security deposit.

Probably a minimum of several hundred. I think they wanted about $300 to do a vacuum evac and leak test on mine, without any fixing. A compressor is at least $1,000 to replace, and on some cars a *lot* more. This they probably already owned and just added a voltage inverter, which might be $50 or so even if they don't already own one.

Note from the OP: This did absolutely no harm to the bees, in fact it did nothing; they just slid deeper inside. Had the same effect of a hive smoker - which mask alarm pheromones and so calms them. Call a beekeeper.

Killer bees are a thing where I live. They can destroy the local hives and landed an elderly person in the hospital and k8ller their dog. That was outside a retirement center. That said, call a professional. Locally we can call the county extention agent for advice and a list of beekeepers.

there is a bridge rectifier right after the inrush resistor. 13 x 9v is 117v. This could definitely work. Its stupid though because two or three of these batteries in parallel would work far more efficiently to charge the phone directly.

My mail person has the same get up in her mini van. The gas and brake pedal was done with a "conversion kit" she bought and paid a local mechanic to install. There is a cable on the pedals that has to be replaced once a year.

no way that is $5. That Type c adapter is $10. You can literally buy a working iron for $20 instead of this junk monstrosity. The amount of stupid here is off the charts. Nothing but a monster waste of money here. There is no reason for the large gauge cables. The Type C limits the input power to well under what those wires can handle. Such a waste...

The capacitor is an output filter for the switching power supply circuit which is presumably to control iron temperature (which would work very poorly. Good irons have thermostatic controls).

USB-C has provisions for providing higher voltages to devices capable of receiving them (5, 9, 15 or 20V at up to 100W) . I have a hot-plate for SMD rework that uses a UBS-C power supply drawing 65W at 20V.

This is the standard method for attaching a "dinghy" hitch to a vehicle for flat-towing. Used car dealers use this method all the time when bringing non-running vehicles back from auction. It's very hard on the transmission in front-wheel drive vehicles.

Most popular backup camera on Amazon - $40.99. That Canon camera on Amazon (didn't look up the extra lens or mount) - $399.
