Massive areas of the Earth are believed to have been swamps for millions of years. Swaps are known for biomass build up since the dead plankton, weeds, trees, and algae never bread down very far under water. Judging by how much algae builds up in my AC condensation pan in just a couple months, it's mind numbing how much must have built up over tens of millions of years. After smelling swamps in Louisianna and Florida, I for one I am glad that tens of millions of square miles of swamps are left in the distant past.

If you’re addressing me, I have to let you know I was born in 1960, so am also of that “parents’” generation. I always drove small, fuel efficient cars, because I knew fossil fuels were going to start running out by the time I got old. The fact that we still haven’t switched to green energy yet—-because of the greedy machinations of the way too powerful few—-pisses me off. Every ocean fouling oil spill, every strip mining operation, every other method of destroying the planet to gut it of all its resources in pursuit of wealth, pisses me off. I would hope I’m not alone in that.

You are not alone. As a soCal child in the 80s, I was raised to respect the planet. I've seen firsthand how we have cluttered up absolutely everything. We've put so much nonbiodegradable trash on every sq mile of the planet, that unless the earth experiences a complete molten event, it's unlikely our presence will ever be erased. Nothing pisses me off more than people who think nothing about throwing trash out of their car window. It's astounding that so many people do it. Even cigarette butt tossers suck. I've confronted many of them in non-aggressive form, and they ALL respond with, "It was just a cigarette butt." And...??? It's still trash that belongs in a trashcan. Everyone is going to be getting out of their car when they get to their destination, so it makes no sense why they cannot take it home and throw it in the trash. Littering is something I have never been able to do. I would feel like pig, and rightly so. It takes no effort to put the trash in a trash can.

I hate that littering cigarette butts is not an enforceable crime. Try a citizens arrest, or bring it to the attention of a nearby police officer....they would laugh in your face. Personally i would like to empty an entire cigarette receptacle down these peoples throats ^-^

It should also be pointed out that vehicles are not the only thing that relay heavily on petroleum. Almost all plastics in the home are from oil, as well as several varieties of fabrics for clothing, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals (yes, petroleum products can be found in more than a few prescription drugs, carpets, tires, roadways, food (yummy),...basically everything. Even if there is no petroleum in a product, you can rest assured that all items exist and/or are transported by vehicles that guzzle crude oil and drive on road made of crude oil , manufactured and otherwise treated with or by crude oil. Fact of the matter is, there is nothing in this world that IS NOT touched by petroleum in some way. Most things are touched by oil in countless ways. It is impossible to avoid oil in our lives at this point.

I say the same of city slickers who own Jeep Wranglers even though they never leave he city. I told my wife that our new Wrangler in 1998 was going to spend hours on end playing in the desert. That is what it was made for and what I do with it. My new Jeep was off road before I had it even 2 weeks.

I drive a pickup truck because it's useful. It's not a monster, it's a small truck (Chevy S-10). I haul stuff for everyone because no one else has a vehicle that can handle the stuff a truck with an open bed can. I don't drive it for work, I drive it for me because I enjoy it.

@Just Carmen Yes, but as you said, you actually make use of it. That's different from the people who only drive such vehicles as status symbols & never even get close to using it for anything other than to say "look at me, look at my big, manly truck. It's huge & manly, and anyone who doesn't like it is really just jealous!". Like, it's great that you do use it to actually get things done, but so many people get big trucks or SUVs just to stroke their egos.

So many of them say they paid too much for it to go offroad with it. That makes absolutely no sence.

I would be willing to bet that the owner of the small car is also a male. Nobody said anything about the race of the person and nobody knows the race of the persons who own the trucks. However where I live, the people who have jacked up trucks that are completely incapable of doing any work are mostly driven by white men and also driven poorly. Because unlike the work trucks that have some place to go and something to do, many of these individuals are out to mess around and think it's hilarious to menace a little car like the one in the middle. Also for all the people complaining about folks picking on Americans, I think we are all so accustomed to Americans driving that kind of car that nobody noticed those are not American license plates.
