If I asked you to picture an exotic country, you'd probably go with something like Australia or Japan. But after this exclusive list by Bored Panda, you'll probably consider South Korea one too.

To show how unique this country really is, we put together a collection of pictures that vividly illustrate its everyday life. We're talking solar-powered benches with USB and wireless charging, onion-flavored cereal, and pretty much everything else you can find there.

Continue scrolling to check out the images and the conversation I had with Hammer and Guillaume, A Fun Couple from Hong Kong and France respectively, who have been traveling the world and documenting their adventures on their blog and Instagram.

That's something I've seen in real life, some Asian women of a certain age and social class were put to work as soon as they were old enough, and never taught to read or write.

This country in East Asia makes up about 45 percent of the Korean Peninsula and faces North Korea across a demilitarized zone (DMZ) that's 2.5 miles (4 km) wide. The DMZ was established by the terms of the 1953 armistice that ended fighting in the Korean War (1950–53) and runs for about 150 miles (240 km).

"We have been calling South Korea our home for 3.5 years now," A Fun Couple told Bored Panda. "What we liked about the idea of moving here was that this country is still not on most people's bucket list when traveling to Asia. Many travelers would rather prioritize neighboring countries such as Japan, China or Hong Kong when visiting the continent."

However, according to Hammer and Guillaume, South Korea has been making a name for itself over the last few years, with the K-phenomenon on the cultural side and large companies such as Samsung and LG on the business side.

"We were excited but also curious to live in a country that continues to develop fast yet remains a bit unknown to the Western world."

One aspect that really impressed the couple once they came to this country was the strong sense of solidarity amongst Koreans. "An aspect that's really astonishing and will help you understand what we mean by that is the gold collecting campaign."

"In 1998, South Korea was about $304 billion in debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). As a national sacrifice, 3.5 million Koreans donated their gold to the government to repay part of the debt. About 227 tons of gold were donated voluntarily during that event. Impressive, right?!"

"This sense of solidarity can be felt in everyday life in Korea. For example, during the pandemic, people were very supportive of each other. Koreans made a joint effort to keep social distancing rules and wear masks at all times. This is also why South Korea was seen as a benchmark when managing the COVID crisis in its early stage."

Of course, settling in another culture takes time. Hammer and Guillaume said the 'work hard, play hard' concept was probably the trickiest thing to adjust to.

"Koreans are very hard working. The maximum number of working hours per week recently changed from 63 to 52, but it's still a lot. Although the work-life balance got better over the last few years, working overtime (and not being paid for it) is still pretty common."

"It is also very common to go out with colleagues multiple times a week after work and have dinner and drinks until late at night. We definitely had to cut down on our sleeping hours, but it's a lot of fun to live and work in South Korea!"

Opening a bank account, getting a local driver's license, getting a phone plan, using different apps; these things weren't always easy," A Fun Couple said.

"Besides there is still a language barrier and most of the documents are rarely translated into English. However, we've noticed that it has become easier for a foreigner to go about their daily life than when we arrived here 3.5 years ago. So we hope that this trend will continue in the future as well!"

I don't think they should put that one there like that. There are people that may have physical disabilities that can't walk steps. It doesn't mean that they choose to be fat or being lazy. Not a good idea and I born in S. Korea myself.

There is an issue with the design of this passage. The escalator is closer than the stairs which makes it a decision between taking the escalator now or the stairs later. It also doesn't help that the stairs are partially blocked by the column. Moving the stairs closer and to the right while relocating the escalator behind the column would greatly improve the situation without a need for the signs. Speaking of the signs, if it would work and make many people healthier at a cost of several people getting unreasonably offended, it is a good trade off. Unfortunately, the photo is an evidence of a failure, therefore, the signs are no good.

People need to chill out. Not everything in life is about you. If you can’t use stairs, then don’t. It’s not personal. Sometimes people just need to see humor for what it is and quit being offended by everything in life. I’m no model size myself… I laughed out loud when I saw this. Genuine response. Geez people.

And the happiest, and mentally healthiest, people are generally those who are able to laugh at themselves. I’m a reasonably bright person, but I’ve told the occasional blonde joke about myself (especially when I do something particularly dumb!) because I can laugh at myself and I’m not so narcissistic that I believe the whole world is referring to me with every comment/sign/look, etc. The self-esteem movement in America has done far more damage than it’s treated, because now it’s not considered ok to even THINK that being morbidly obese and out of shape are not healthy lifestyles. We are supposed to support and respect everyone, regardless of poor choices they may have made, so as not to offend anyone. 🙄 Perhaps that is why the obesity rate in first-world countries has sky-rocketed at the same time the “you must respect everyone’s choices” [no matter how bad they may be] mantra became the focus in schools and society, at large.

For everyone being offended by this sign,it shows that disabled, old or fat people should use the escalator so they dont go out of breath, trip and fall down the stairs. This is not shaming this is injury prevention.

I encourage this, where I'm from in the world, we are not allowed to mention weight of an individual as an issue I feel. It's okey to say "obesity are on the rise" but never call someone out for it. Due to they we are body shaming. To be fair, we are at the point soon as a society where we cant have doctors say "your too fat for this surgery" without offending patients. If the caption only say "Remember to be healthy at all times!" and not directing it towards an individual I'm fine with it. the only reason people are questioning this is for the subliminal message that being large might not be health. Well the answer to it is: It in most cases are not and in those cases where morbidly obese people are that large or close due to a real sickness is in relations to % of people that are lazy actually very small. Being to skinny or to big are 90%+ not a natural medical condition but a personal issue or choice. those that are affected by a real medical condition are not majority by far.

Stairs are often a better option than an escalator but this picture doesn't show how MANY stairs one might have to climb. That could explain the crush for the escalator...

Where? No one's walking except those at end are stepping on. In NYC subways, people leave left side of escalators free for those walking up escalators. Every1's happy w/that custom.

Omg - why do people have to be so overly correct these days! The escalator is built fo people who have difficulties climbing stairs, carry luggage, are accompanied by a small child, wear high heels ;+) or are just tired. But I would say within that daily commuter at least 80% could walk - I think it is a funny reminder...

Regardless of what any sign says, an overweight person has next to no chance of either being motivated or fit enough to climb a set of stairs when there is a perfectly good escalator right next to it.

I am not offended and wow some these comments are just ridiculous. I weigh about 96 pounds and am 5 foot 1. My mom is obese, but she is nit lazy, she works her a*s off every day at work, her feet are all f****d up from standing on them so long, sometimes her legs swell up really bad, she has even had water leak from her legs and s**t she refuses to go to the doctor, but she is not lazy and hardly eats. She used to be an alcoholic but she recently quit drinking, she also started exercising and she has already lost 6 pounds this week. I honestly winder how she even got to be that big because she never even really ate much, an has always been far from lazy. So people need to realize this can happen to anyone and it isn't always from being lazy, it can be genetic. I am the only small one in my family, everyone else is overweight.

This is what is wrong with the world. Too many people getting offended over silly things - and before I get slammed - I am disabled. I am obese. It is what it is. If you're fat because you're lazy - you can do something about it - if it's through illness, you're slightly more restricted about what you can do. Accept what you are and what you can do and stop getting mortally offended if somebody states the obvious.

Other cultures are not shy about letting you know if something is not “right” with you..if you’re fat, they will let you know to your face that you are fat, stranger or family. Only in N America ppl are very polite and super conscious about not shaming for any physical or mental issues🤷‍♀️For those of us that are from other cultures living in N.A. we know the reality of it!

Well, by the fact everyone is taking the escalator, they are getting the message backwards, and think its telling them to take the escalator. No one is walking up no stairs when an escaltor is right there. so, they are welcome to consider themselves heavy weight people, besides the escalator is faster unless your 14 and can run all the way up without stopping.

When is the last time you did see a S. Korean of normal weight, anyway? (In the US, the average is 180 lbs and 5'8" for women, 200+ lbs and 6' for men.)

So typical of Korea. Fat shaming and constant discrimination against those that are deemed failures.

If you read the caption, it says "Remember to be healthy at all times!" It isn't used to body-shame someone into using the stairs. So please learn the facts before judging

Fatphobia is real and dangerous. It shouldn't be government sanctioned too.

Obesity is also real and dangerous. Sadly it's hard to find the line where concern turns into judgement.

No, not usually. Sometimes that is. Usually, you only get a free plastic knife, but the rest depends on the shops individually. In bakeries they will, however, ask you if you need candles and how many, these are free and come with a free match as well. Unless you bought the fancy ones separately. Still, you'd get a free match to light them.

This is in fact a "premium" bus, not a train. The seat is similar to business class in planes I'd say. You can lie almost flat and the seat is really comfortable. Also, bus or train tickets are always the same amount, even if you buy it an hour before. I personally prefer travelling with these buses, because they are more comfortable than trains, sometimes even faster, and they stop at highway rest areas where you can get great food!
