Picture 746 million people living in 50 (+6) countries, speaking 24 (official) languages in a continent that stretches 3,930,000 sq mi. Yep, we’re talking Europe. The precious land of long history, incredible culture, countless destinations, and people, the majority of whom are bilinguals.

But in order to really get the European lifestyle and all the quirks that come with it, you have to step outside the tourist comfort zone. Luckily, there’s a whole subreddit dedicated entirely to all things European, so we can get a better glimpse of the sung “old world.”

With a whopping 2.9M members, r/Europe has a collection of some of the most interesting things that happen here. Be sure to upvote your favorite posts!

A very laudable decision. Cities shouldn't be looking like shopping malls. Getting rid of all those eyesores improves the quality of life. Well done, Poland!

Some Pandas are finding this too plain. That can be changed a little ( a LITTLE) later on, but this is such a bright up of this building. How was it ok to block all the light from those people's windows? I'm sure they appreciate the light they get now! But to me, compared with the previous picture, it looks so peaceful and does not assault the eyes. Great job Poland.

Ah, a breath of fresh air! I like the art and history of some advertisements. Pompeii had some cool ones, and there are a couple lingering in my city that are over 100 years old, but too much is definitely overwhelming.

I've always thought that some of these companies were in bed with the insurance companies. And they put those ads up to distract us so we will have accidents. Because when you're driving you're not supposed to be focusing on anything other than the road and your surroundings within your car. Those billboards are terrible distractions.

Greit!

That’s not entirely true, only a few cities made this decision and in most places there are still tons of new billboards displayed every week. Where I live, there are more and more of them, especially in the mountains and that just completely ruins the look of those places.

According to Pew Center, views of the economy play a large role in how people generally view the European Union. According to their study, those who think their country’s economic situation is good are more likely to have a favorable opinion of the EU in most countries surveyed.

“In Sweden, for example, 81% of those who think the Swedish economy is in good shape also have a positive view of the EU; just 42% of those who think the economy is functioning poorly share that sentiment,” the study stated.

Most likely to discourage German bomber crews. It didn't protect them completely though as Dublin was bombed (accidentally). Downed aircrew (from both sides) were interned in a pretty agreeable fashion until the end of hostilities. Most (upon their personal assurance and personal guarantee that they wouldn't do a runner) were allowed out of camp - even down to the pub in the evening! How civilized!
