NOTE - This is my limited understanding of islam , correct me if I'm wrong. Please don't call them jihadists , greater jihad is the inward struggle to do good whilslt lesser jihad is a need to defeat outward threats , occasionally in war. It’s easy to assume that antiques are highly valuable. However, several factors affect their value, making it quite challenging to determine. According to Five Katz Antiques owner Edmund Kindle, market trends are one variable.

In an article for Florida Today, Kindle explains that younger people who inherit these old items from their grandparents aren’t fond of them, so they sell them for cheap.

Provenance is another factor, as it determines the history of the object’s ownership. According to Christie’s New York Department for Chinese Ceramics head Vicky Paloympis, older provenance from a prestigious collection does boost the item’s value.

But if you want to be absolutely sure, you can consult an auction database. Heritage Auctions' head consignment director, Samantha Robinson, explains that auction results within the past three years are the best basis.

This is a Worth dress, and what makes it so amazing is the fact that fabric back in the 18th century were woven very narrow 61 - 91,5 cm (24-26 inches) So to piece this fabric together so the pattern lines up (at least in the front, the back side pattern does not line up as much) is quite amazing and a testament to not only the value of the garment but also the visual message it would send. It would have generated a lot of waste cut of fabric in a time where usually no fabric was wasted. That alone would have told other people that this dress was expensive. What a wonder it has survived all these years.

According to Chicago-based antiques dealer Erik Retzer, bronze holds a lot of value in terms of item material. Whether small sculptures or ornate chandeliers, bronze remains a precious item in the antique market because it is highly coveted.

The same applies to Suzani textiles. Originating in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, they were initially used as protective wrapping panels for ancient tents known as yurts.

These days, people have found ways to repurpose them by using them as wall art or pillow designs.

It was about the size of a fist and was on sale in a very high-end jewelry shop in Manama Bahrein. I didn't bother to ask the price. The popularity of period pieces has revived the popularity of Georgian and Regency furniture. According to Los Angeles-based designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, today’s younger generation has embraced mixing these old pieces with newer ones for a fresh look.

“Chests of drawers, dining chairs, secretaries, and side tables—mostly English and even Irish—are still very reasonable at auction and have such beauty,” he said.

I come from a family that lives to 100 and beyond. My husband comes from a family where an 80 year old is an oddity. We’re in our 60s now. When I plan for the future, I always have Plan B in mind for a future without him. I don’t talk about Plan B with him.

Nowadays, women are more likely to live longer. Knowing this, I still always said that I wanted to be the first to go. Unfortunately, my husband died at the age of 68 after years of slow decline from dementia. I had years to prepare myself, but I really never could prepare for his leaving so soon. 4 years afterward, every day feels like my life is missing an important part and thus can never be healed. I just hope that I will find him again someday in another life.

@EJN, I’m so sorry for your loss and having to suffer a long goodbye beforehand. It’s so very hard watching a loved one leave us and being powerless to stop what’s happening, to cure it, to stop their pain. And knowing the inevitability of the end. No, this isn’t preparation, love. This is devastation on a daily basis. You *are* missing an important part - and always will be. It’s ok to know that and feel that. Grief takes its own path and is different in each of us. You’ll heal at your own pace. And you *will* be reunited with your beloved again. And it will joyful. God bless you 🙏🏻🕊xx.

Not so fun kinda fact: many farmers have incentive to cover up any finds. If you can't use your farm for farming for the next 1-5 years while teams take their time excavating the site and surrounding areas you do not feed your family. I learned this when my family was discussing the indigenous burial they found, and their indigonous neighbor told them to burn the bones in place to return the body to the earth.

It's the Arabic script. Since it's 17th century I'm guessing Persian or Moghul.

Carbonized Loaves Of Bread From Pompeii And Herculaneum!

All jokes aside, it’s pretty cool that these loaves, and other food and everyday ordinary things survived and are being excavated in Pompeii and Herculaneum. We’re always taught about the huge major events of history, but learning about the everyday life of the time adds context, humanizes it, and makes it real, because it gets you thinking about the person standing at that oven putting raw dough in and taking cooked loaves out, and the people buying those loaves. It makes you think about their lives and what might’ve been going through their minds as the ash fell and kept falling. History affects everyone, rich and poor, powerful and powerless, famous and unknown. Those individual stories are often way more interesting than the dry facts about the few famous people who generally have statutes made of them, that are often taught, which then turn kids off to learning about history.

In the height of Rome's history the city was populated very densely, so lots of flats in the big "Insulae" did not have room for a kitchen. Inexpensive fast food stands were a necessity. So were public toilets.

Not " it was occupied by the Jews of the Timimoun region" but that area the oldest known records was that there was a Jewish community in the Touat Region (where Jews lived since refugees fled after the Roman Destruction of Jerusalem in 70CE) that fled to that region around the 12th century escaping a unknown persecution. And we know the Jews lived there for 200 years before they moved back to their older areas and abandoned this. This structure dates to the 12th century. But it doesnt match any known architecture styles from the time, or any Jewish style. So the question is, did those jews build it, or did someone else do and they took it over. The running theory is, it was a watch tower, but no one knows for sure.

I'm sure if you used a magnetometer or ground penetrating radar, you would probably find that there were villages and such, around this building. I watched a youtube where an archeologist used this around the pyramids and found whole villages and towns around them. Evidence of a large population in their vicinity. Climate change would have been the cause of the deserts and people leaving.

Maybe that is because it is, indeed, more of a storage than a well planned burial site. Theory is that because of Tut's early death his royal tomb was not ready yet, so he was interred in a much smaller one that had originally been built for someone of lesser standing. They had to fit all the grave goods in somehow. That's why it looks so crammed.

I do appreciate archeology and all we learn from the past. But it does bother me that we dig up and open things we probably shouldn’t. I’m sure the intent was that this would never be opened once it was sealed up.

I'm guessing not much. The brain is mushy, so if the skull was reshaped over time, the brain would just have been displaced . Plus, the infant brain is still wiring itself, as it were, so it would have adjusted. Adults can make amazing recoveries from brain injuries by "rewiring circuits".
