To expand, when you drop I to such a hole at the centre you will be at the fastest speed as all the potential energy had been turned to kinetic energy and if not for air friction and other loses once you reach the other side you would return to the exact same height you dropped from and that's when you would have zero speed. Like a pendulum. Now with energy loses you would return to a position close to the centre and if you leave it long enough you would stop at the centre.

Eventually yes but not immediately. In a very simplistic model you would first end up into an unpleasant phase of oscillation back and forth. In practice that would be way more complex if we forget the fact that the hole is impossilble. If there would be air in the hole, you won't survive for a long because increasing air pressure would crush you way before you even reach the center. If vacuum, you probably would be crushed to the wall due rotation of earth..

Assuming that the temperature in the core of the earth is not a factor you would actually have an oscillating motion in which you could almost get to the other side but then come back almost to the initial side and then oscillating smaller and smaller until you would float in the middle off the planet

I think the point was the time it would take to fall that far if it were theoretically possible to drill through the earth.

Assuming the tunnel has been filled with air so you could breathe and other factors, such as the Earth's molten core or the enormous pressure, have been dealt with you would gain velocity as you fall up to terminal velocity. As you approach the centre however the pull of the Earth's mass evens out (as much mass below you as above), friction with the air will then cause you to decelerate. Ultimately you should come to a smooth halt somewhere near to the Earth's centre.

You would go past the middle and oscillate like a pendulum for God knows how long and then eventually stop.

Nope! You would have quite the velocity by then but once you passed the center the combination of gravity and wind resistance would cause you to come up short. Of course, it really doesn't matter anyway because you would be nothing but base elements before you even reached the core due to the heat. That aside, how are you going to drill a hole through the outer liquid core and not flood yourself with lava?

You've going so fast by that point that you would travel almost the whole way to the other end before it brought you to a stop. However, there'd still be air resistance, sou you'd have to jump from a high platform into the tunnel to give you enough speed to counteract that drag, and of course you'd be cooked on the way through unless you wore a special thermal suit. Also, if you didn't make it out at the other end, gravity would pull you back down into the tunnel, and you'd end up hurtling to-and-fro until all your kinetic energy was used up and you came to rest at the core.

Who knows? But if it didn't the heat would kill you anyway.

I think the only idea is traveling across the earth from end to end through the core. but yeah your question makes a lot sense

The biggest misconception is that constant gravity will always pull you into the middle of the earth. Grabity is the attraction of matter. Hence in the middle of the earth you will be equally pulled in all directions..
