Do you know the capital of Australia? Many people mistakenly think it's Sydney, but the real answer is Canberra! Established in 1908 as a compromise between the rival cities of Sydney and Melbourne, Canberra was designed specifically to serve as the nation's capital.
It’s not just a political hub; the city is home to stunning architecture, including significant government buildings like the Australian Parliament House, all set against beautiful landscapes.

In a historic move, Australia became the first nation in the world to grant women the right to vote in federal elections back in 1902. This groundbreaking legislation was a significant step forward for gender equality, inspiring similar movements across the globe.
Australia’s progressive stance not only empowered women at home but also set a powerful example for other countries striving for equal rights, highlighting the importance of inclusivity in democracy.

Of A Kangaroo
The Dingo Fence, the longest fence in the world, built to keep kangaroos and dingoes away from crops, runs through Queensland and is approximately 5,600 kilometers long. It is not just a mere fence; the structure symbolizes the country’s lasting determination to effectively manage both its farm fires and wildlife.

Bloody Cockatoo Stole My Thong
When we were kids (early 1960's, Pacific Northwest, US) we also called these cheap rubber flip flops thongs. Going to Woolworths 5 and Dime at the beginning of summer, you could get a set of 2 pairs for 15 cents. They almost never lasted the summer. The end of the strap in the middle (the one that went between your big toe and the other toes) would wear thin, and then pull through. You'd be walking (or running) along and, BAM!, the strap would pull up and the thong would go flying from under your foot, and more than likely you'd scrape some toes in the rocks or on the concrete. We learned to fix the strap by making a slit in a cardboard milk bottle cap and pulling the rubber end through. That usually worked for a while. Ah, memories...
You might know that Australia is home to many snakes, but surprisingly, in places like Tasmania, you can stroll around without encountering any at all. If you’re a bit wary of reptiles, this makes Tasmania a fantastic spot for enjoying the great outdoors without the worry!

Only In Australia: A Plant That Can Cause Severe Pains For Over A Year!!
According to wild life officer Ernie Rider, who was slapped across the torso and the face in 1973:
“For two or three days the pain was almost unbearable; I couldn't work or sleep... I remember it feeling like there were giant hands trying to squash my chest... then it was pretty bad pain for another fortnight or so. The stinging persisted for two years and recurred every time I had a cold shower...There's nothing to rival it; it's ten times worse than anything else.”

Their rich cultural practices encompass a multitude of languages, art forms, music, and traditions that are deeply intertwined with the natural environment, which are inseparable from the natural environment.

Pretty young bird. The grey feathers tell you this. We've always been friends with the magpies wherever we live. The older generations tell off the younger ones if they get stroppy with us. Any outsiders who don't pay their magpie tax are not welcome. That's the magpies' rules, not ours! 😋

Almost a decade ago my sister used to work for a mobile service provider. For certain areas where service was really bad they were told to inform the customer that a new tower is being built so soon the problem will be resolved. One such time the caller asked her 'you have been building the new tower for 2 years now, why can't I see it yet.' She was on notice period (toxic boss, unsupportive upper management, you know the usual reasons). She told the customer that we are lying and it's better he switch to another company.

Job Posting For A Care Job In Victoria
Not justifying the racism but I have a friend in aged/ dementia care here in Australia..... this isn't legal but I suspect this is an internal request...... when caring for dementia sufferers your number one concern is the patient and their need for familiarity....... my friend, being a large Caucasian biker looking guy, works mostly with veterans..... and I'm afraid you have to aware that race can be an issue with WW2, Korean war and Vietnam veterans with dementia....... a lot of them in homes have it in their files that only certain carers deal with them...... it's not right to advertise it in such racist terms but unfortunately it is a lot more complicated than it first seems.......

Meat pie and sausage roll. Mostly eaten for lunch, but with a lot more sauce than that. Meat pie is minced meat and brown gravy in pie pastry. Sausage roll is really fine minced meat (and filler- god know really) in pastry.

There is nothing wrong with this. Section 12 is just paraphrasing clauses from the relevant legislation saying that the rules changed on 19 June 2019 to prevent landlords increasing the rent every six months. The only thing which is noteworthy is how modest that rent increase is in this day and age

Can Someone Please Explain To Me What Script All These Men Are Following
In between pictures 9 & 10 you state Australia was the first country to give women the vote at federal levels. You are very wrong. Aotearoa New Zealand was the first to do that in 1893, 9 years before our Aussie neighbours
The only thing I take away from this is that it's mildly reassuring to know that pretty much everyone is well f****d off with their own country at the moment.
I agree!! Food prices are outrageous here in the US.
Load More Replies...While I think Australia is a beautiful country overall, I still can't get past the huge spiders!!!! I will just take y'alls' word for it.
Big spiders are generally okay...it's the little black ones with red dots on their backs you need to watch out for and stomp on.
Load More Replies...I hope to visit Australia and New Zealand someday, hopefully soon! The land is incredible, the people are awesome, and their accents are just..aahh, indescribably amazing to my dumb, uncultured American ears 😹 the most International travel I've ever had has been to Vancouver, Canada (not dissing Canada, I absolutely love Vancouver, I've been a few times as it's only about a 3-hour drive from my home in Tacoma) but I really do want to travel further, I'm just working the "American Dream" lol 🫠
I was lucky enough to go to Vancouver in 2019 and it is very similar Melbourne (although we haven't legalised weed so that is one stench not as prominent).
Load More Replies...Sorry! Last country I would visit. It's a beautiful country and the Australians seem friendly... but too many insects, dangerous animals and crabs for me! 😅😱 I prefer our geese and skunks.
A country so hot but all the water is filled with crocodiles, snakes, sharks, and giant crabs that look like spiders?
We also have 9 out of the 10 most venomous snakes in the world. And you can't forget things like box jellyfish (invisible, deadly jellyfish in the tropics), and blue ringed octopus... let's just say it's much safer to stay out of the water!
Load More Replies...Thank you for writing such a positive article about Australia! I love the beauty and humor. Imagine if someone wrote something nice like this about the US.. unfortunately, this site doesn't seem to be about that. - That said, some of this stuff is freaky af and would scare the bejeezus out of me. But it's so beautiful it might be worth dying from a snake/spider/platypus/bug/plant/crab/shark/etc encounter just to see the good stuff and have fairy bread. 💙
Tasmania DOES have snakes, and they are also pretty venomous, but because of the different climate there are not as many species of them, same with the lizards.
