No matter how beautiful and ‘perfect’ the photos on your Instagram feed might look, not all of them are real. Some are so heavily photoshopped, edited, and altered, it’s borderline ridiculous. I know, it sounds unbelievable that somebody would lie on the internet like this!
This is where the Instagram Reality subreddit comes in. It’s a community that finds and shames the most heavily photo-edited IG pictures. Check out their newest pics below and upvote the ones that blew your minds the most, dear Pandas. Moderator Cluelessnumber7 explained to Bored Panda about the two main negative effects of heavily photoshopping photos. "The first? The unrealistic expectations influencers purport to their impressionable followers. The amazingly smooth skin, suddenly common almond shaped eyes, pouty lips, sharp jaw lines, slim hourglass shapes, and so on," they said.
"What’s being lost by just posting that photo for the masses is the time it took to pick the outfit, hunt down the right lighting, pick which hand to take the selfies with (yes, seriously), and that’s all before smoothing, refining, and resizing in Facetune. Without disclosing that, there is now a countless amount of people comparing themselves (and perhaps spending money to look like) a person who doesn’t exist," the redditor pointed out one of the dangers of influencers heavily altering their own appearance.

So, they would rather enjoy the false fame, than risk losing it over integrity."
We also wanted to find out what steps could be taken to reduce the amount of photo-editing that people do online. "This is a very complicated question, but one step that we should fight for is to get rid of all filters that alter the shape, size, or proportions of anything to do with someone’s body," Cluelessnumber7 told us.
"Filters have become a crutch for so many people on Instagram that they now edit their still photos to look like their filtered Snapchat videos; adjusting their noses, tone of their skin, smoothing all blemishes, adding lashes in post," they said. "These filters, while fun, are surprisingly insidious. You don’t realize that you expect to look like the filtered version of yourself, until you attempt to take a photo without them."

Peoples idea of beauty nowadays is so distorted that this looks normal to them. It’s the same reason super rich women can walk around with larger than life lips and faces so worked on they can’t move them and not feel embarrassed. They all look like that so it begins to look normal.
While there’s nothing wrong with putting an artistic filter on a photo to slightly change the colors, it’s easy to go overboard. A handful of changes can become a dozen which then become a hundred and soon enough, you’ve airbrushed yourself so much, you can’t even recognize yourself anymore.
According to Brooke Erin Duffy, an assistant professor at Cornell University studying self-presentation on Instagram, “Nobody wants to be called fake.” So deciding how much to edit your photos is a huge dilemma for influencers.
“Influencers very much feel they need to present themselves authentically while getting the best image possible,” she told The Guardian.

Okay, wait. This one... I don't think it's photoshopped, or at least it isn't photoshopped much. Speaking as a pro photographer who DOES do retouching, but also works ALLLLL the angles, this one looks like she's sucking in and twisted so the reflection makes her look much thicker in the waist than what you see when looking from this angle. There's also something dark just behind her elbow in the reflection that makes her waist look thicker too. It's just a shade lighter than the dress. This one doesn't belong here, I don't think.

This one is totally photoshopped. It’s just a better job than the others. For one thing, look at how choppy the back of her arm is. That’s like a stamp tool gone wrong. For another, from an anatomical standpoint, this woman’s human proportions are on the verge of virtually impossible. Look at the healthy size of her upper arm compared to the almost-dead weight around her stomach? All she has there is a rib cage and a pelvis. That’s not the way bodies work. They took in her waist way, way too much.

Until recently I've been referred to as the skinny friend and some people were envious. I've started to put on weight (not much, I'm a healthy weight) and I personally think I look much better, and instead of being a stick, I have some curves
Meanwhile, the Instagram Reality community moderators further shared their own thoughts about photoshopping pictures in a previous interview with Bored Panda.
According to them, Instagram users want to see influencers post natural photos of themselves, not something that’s been “edited to hell” and back. The mods remain optimistic that influencers will eventually realize that, especially with part of the global population still stuck at home due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Well, everyone these days is saying they find a slender woman to be attractive. The girls are trying to be as attractive as they can be. They can’t read your mind to know what you personally think is “too far”. They aspire to be anorexic or bulemic so they can impress people like you who prefer “slender women”. The truth is, the slender attraction has been brainwashed into us by the media. Both men and women are afflicted. It’s not typically natural for an adult woman to have thigh gap or a tummy that indents. These are traits you see in young girls before they’re fully developed. A healthy woman has stores of fat that boost her immunity in her thighs, stomach, and rear. Unless she’s of certain Asian descent, she probably doesn’t naturally have a body that’s slender in the right way.

These pictures are from different time of her life. There is maybe 10years difference bettween these photos. Yes (on the left photo) she has a lot of plastic surgeries and use filters on social media now. I am not fan, but it is not accurate because right photo is not her in real life. It was but long time ago.

Not in her defense, but as we have seen in recent /other posts, the way you position yourself helps a lot. It's all about the right angles - both body and camera. If I with EU size 42 twist my waist put out and up a foot, let some fabric hang over my a*s, i'd look better too. (Except for the 3-kids big belly, that is only hide-able by NOT going for a side view.

She has double neck quadruple belly and triple legs size. She appeared as is in another bp thread. I notice those people pursuing an influencer career are really a lot. Bad use of filters aside, does that really work ? They make an income ? I think they're just wasting some money in professional photoshootings, all to use filters and not having a minimum of requisite to pursuit a modelling career. That's not good, not good at all.

These asmr girls are not what they look like. They have filters built in their cameras from Asia countries and use them when they do their asmr vids. But yes, the pointy jawlines, necks and color of skin is very much done in every video. Also, they use makeup lines on their faces, necks, etc to define parts the way they want too

Actually I follow her on Instagram and she's absolutely amazing and I truly believe that this is just due to video moment between shots. She workout like 5 hours a day and there are thousands of her videos there and she is not only beautiful outside but also an incredibly positive person. If a body is made of mostly muscle, a leg does look this way.

This one got me. Body positivity doesn't mean photoshopping the curves you don't like and so on. But I doesn't always mean thin either. Just because the boys who commented here don't like curves or a bit of extra weight doesn't mean others don't find it beautiful. This is NOT disgusting. Their bodies are not an abomination. They are their bodies. I think it's beautiful that someone, thick or thin- short or tall can have the courage to post anything like what this woman posted. Beauty comes in all forms. Just because what you find attractive is different from others doesn't make it not beautiful. The other two comments are just mean. Point blank. Respect others. Did Bambi not teach you anything? Don't have something nice to say? Don't say it! For anyone who's interested, I recommend living by the 5 second rule. If they can't change something in 5 seconds, don't tell them about it. Chances are they know, and are on their own journey to change or accept it. End rant.

Beauty, for how I see it, is a matter of harmony. We see examples any day. It's not about weight, shape, fit, or colors. One can be not slim, ugly and without makeup or far from canonical looks, but still entriquing much more than a "perfect" shape or makeup, and shine.

You are welcome to have the opinions you have. Chances are, the women that you find so disgusting probably return that sentiment unto you. I do hope that if there is a “special” person I your life, that they never stray from perfection. Not for your sake, but for theirs. I can only imagine what hurtful words you peg at them. And to be clear, laziness is not always the case. I’ve known some people who were quite thin and yet the most lay people I’ve known to exist. They were literally a waste of air. I’ve also known hard working people who just could not lose the weight. Whether it was a medical condition such as a hypothyroid issue or one of the other numerous reasons someone could have extra weight on their person, they were in no way, shape, or form lazy as you say. Just— do better.
