This is the real question that needs to be asked.

My son was on 3 different chemo meds. Two were given intravenously at the hospital, but the third chemo drug was a pill he had to take at home. Each caspule was $500. It was absolutely ridiculous. This happened at the same time I was trying to help my dad pay for his heart medications to keep him alive. He never had enough $ for all his prescriptions. I hate this country's healthcare system.

How do American hospitals and drug companies even come up with those insane prices? Especially when they know there’s no way an average person can afford a lot of treatments? Is it like throwing darts at a dartboard with random numbers on it? “Ah yes, this one will have a 2800% profit margin, very good, you have great aim Mr Business Guy!” (And for what Lucretia said - f**k the shareholders. To be fair to the criminal, he likely is desperate himself and had no idea he wasn't stealing an XBox game or something. On the other hand, we have a drug company that absolutely knows they have a family trying to save a child from certain death so they extort the hell out of them... the criminal, on realizing he stole a (useless to him) drug, may have remorse. The drug company?

And why in the h*ll is the pharmacy shipping 40k worth of meds cheaping out on the shipping and not requiring a adult present to accept the package?

exactly why cures are locked away in a vault. No money in cures. My son delivered some cancer machinery to a hospital up north. The bigger machines have to be assembled onsite and then the hospital is built around them. The larger machines are north of $100M each, they have 10 of them. The smaller ones like he delivered go for $8-10M rebuilt. Ever notice people at big pharma never contract anything? There's a cure for everything we know.

There is a device he can wear on his head that, from what I understand, will send electrical pulses to disrupt the cancer cell division thereby lengthening his survival rate. He is waiting to hear back on whether or not his insurance will cover it...it's $21K per MONTH.

That the pharmaceutical companies actually get away with charging people this amount for life saving and life sustaining medication, that's the problem

Playing devils advocate for a moment: not all expensive medicines are overpriced. Quite a few are very difficult and expensive to produce and are used only in very specific cases (making it much harder to get a return on the development). It's why health insurance exists and why, in many countries, governments pay part of the costs. It's very likely this is one of those cases. Specialist cancer medication is ludicrously expensive to produce.

When you spend billions of dollars and more than 10nyears bringing a drug ti market, I think they have a right to charge whatever they must to turn a profit for their shareholders. If it wasn't for big pharma, the drug would not exist so stop b*tchin' about high prices in the most capitalistic nation on earth. Don't like it, move. Lots of socialist and communist countries you can go to.

Some of us are so beyond ready. I cannot fathom how conservatives can possibly defend our healthcare system in cases like this.

So mom or dad should take a day off from work to wait for the postman? That’s not really doable- especially if the kid receives multiple deliveries. Porch pirates can stalk delivery drivers. All it takes is 5 minutes.

Don't victim blame. They've loosely been getting the same medicine every month since he was a baby and it's the first time it was stolen. Are you going to sit home every time or do you expect someone else to do that?

My pharmacy requires a signature if you live in any type of communal living like an apartment, dorm, or condominium. If you live in a freestanding house, it’s up to the recipient. If you live in a safe neighborhood and get shipments all the time and never have a theft, why would you expect for this to be the first time? Mom and dad have to work. We have a hustle culture in America with very few days off compared to the rest of the developed world.
