While we all need a fair share of news to keep up to date with the world around us, the truth is, we don’t always benefit from that emotionally. Quite often the opposite happens. What we read or watch or hear may upset us, leaving us anxious and irritated for the rest of the day.
Sometimes it’s the sheer facts that trigger us negatively, like Russia’s invasion of Ukraine or the dreadful plastic pollution in the oceans. And other times, it’s not the facts but rather the presentation of how one thing or another is told to us.
The headlines, for example, are notorious for inflating and misrepresenting things and we always have to take them with a pinch of salt. And even if we do, they may still frustrate us, as they did to people on the Trashy community on Reddit. Below we wrapped up the headlines that, according to people, have maddened them the most.

Sweet christ on a cracker...measles can kill. Why would you want to intentionally put your child at risk of death (not to mention others who are vulnerable and rely on head immunity)??? I cannot for the life of me understand how people can think this way and then believe in it so much they are willing to literally gamble with the lives of their children. Not their own lives cos I bet most of them had the vacancies when they were children...which thinking about it does kind of prove the link between vacancies and brain damage 🤔🤔/s. Some twat of a woman decided her kid didn't need to be vaccinated for whooping cough in a school near were we used to live. Almost shut down the entire school when not only did his classmates get sick with it, but several teachers and the families of students and staff became ill. One of my husbands friends had a wife that worked in the school. She said one teacher whose family went under quarantine had a new born baby at home that was too young to be vaccinated. The baby got really sick. The mother of the unvaccinated kid felt she did nothing wrong.

Food for thought: what everyone remembers about polio is actually more like long-polio. 98% of cases presented as a mild diarrheal illness. We knew then that a 2% rate of life threatening complications was nothing to screw around with.

I live close to the area in the article (I'm in the next county over)- there is a very large religious sect that doesn't believe in any sort of vaccine. They don't want to be held to the same guidelines (like children in public schools being vaccinated) as the rest of the public because they consider themselves to be their own entity. We have that group to thank for the resurgence of freaking POLIO in New York now. They don't do any of the typical childhood vaccines and now diseases that were thought practically eradicated are coming back and spreading. Polio has been found in the wastewater in my town now, but so far they say if you've been vaccinated as a kid you don't need to do it again.

Measles can kill. The child who gets it or an adult who gets it. Not to mention taking the chance that before it’s evident they’re sick they are around a pregnant woman and therefore a chance the child will be born with deformities. Nope. In the days my mom was a child, there was a sign put on your house door that this house was under quarantine until the health department says they don’t need to. But OMG! The invasion of privacy. This was before any vaccines. They did it to help stop the spread of what can be deadly.

My dad was nearly blinded because of measles (before there was a vaccine). My mom had diabetic retinopathy so bad she had to go on disability & her vision was STILL better than his! Needless to say, my sister $ I were vaccinated for EVERYTHING.

I got Tuberculosis after having the measles. It was from milk. My resistance to illness was depleted due to the measles - 65 years later (Was 3 when it happened) I am still suffering from low vitality and disease resistance

When my son was 3, he managed with one swing of his arm to knock multiple bottles of lotion off a low shelf causing one to crack open and spill lotion all over. I was very much watching my kid. He wasn’t goofing off. Genuine accident. We (he helped, kinda) put the non-broken ones away and we went up to costumer service to pay for the broken lotion. It was a weird conversation. Me: My son broke this lotion. I think I’m supposed to pay for it. Employee: Do you want the lotion? M: No. E: Then you don’t have to pay for it. I told him which aisle so they could clean it up and we continued shopping. You are responsible for your kids and their actions and mistakes. Our family phrase is: Look with your eyes, not your hands. when we’re in public, at stores, etc. I didn’t understand why we didn’t pay for the lotion. Felt guilty. I very much don’t understand this headline, but I also don’t know what I’d do if my son broke something I couldn’t afford to pay for.
