And they are correct to do so. People who have no access to health care can't afford to get sick - and if they get food poisoning, they CAN die of dehydration or sepsis if they don't have access to antibiotics. ...///... If you've never had food poisoning, you have no idea just how sick you can get. Food borne illnesses kill homeless people in the US all the time. ...///... And YES, I do know people who have gotten sick at three starred restaurants because of bad food handling.

After being in a business that searches travelers every day, I've seen some creative ways to deal with problems. Some have been sad and unpleasant, others refreshingly innovative. Maybe people mean that the latest and greatest might be a luxury. Everyone should have access to a phone. But not an iPhone X.

I'm a woman and I'm all for paying less but... I think it's considered a "luxury item" because it's a hygienic product that helps us reach a higher quality of life. Third world countries don't have the luxury of soap, shampoo, pads/tampons... The majority of items are taxed. We pay taxes on soap, shampoo and other hygienic products... what makes everyone feel tampons and pads should be exempt from taxes? Most of the time, only prescription meds get exempt on taxes for EVERYONE. For example, Viagra and birth control is exempt from taxes because it falls in the category of prescription meds. Anything else that falls under "hygienic products" is taxed... I think the explanation is that simple but I could be wrong. EDIT: I wish I could reply to people below but my comment was downvoted so I can't... @Tammy Chapman - From my understanding, whether you feel Viagra is necessary or not, it falls under the category of "prescription medication" therefor it is not taxed. Tampons do not require a prescription and fall under the category of "hygienic products" which ARE taxed (along with male hygienic products as well). As for your argument on the "Pink Tax", you have the option to purchase male products. They aren't closed off to you and they do the same job. But marketing has realized women prefer different scents therefor they need different and more expensive ingredients to create these scents that are more soothing to our skin (women care more about their skin). These products cost more to make, therefor they will cost more to the consumer. It's simple economics - not gender discrimination. I'm a woman and I go to the store and buy men's deodorant. I have that choice and so do you. But women obviously prefer different ingredients and scents that cost more to make. We tend to care more about our skin and how we age. It's verified data that we spend more on these kinds of products. It's completely marketed towards us...

What's the argument for toilet paper, soap, toothpaste and every other hygiene product. If your vagina bleeds then pay to clean it up. As a man I'm not going to expect women to pay for my condoms for me to jerk into every day because I'm wound up and don't want to make a mess or buy them myself. Pony up. Support yourself.
