Many of us come from humble beginnings. We make something of ourselves with hard work and a bit of luck and have every right to be proud of our success. But it's important to remember where we came from. It keeps us down to earth and doesn't let us take anything for granted.
A recent trend online is dedicated to just that. It has people making "How It Started vs. How It's Going" posts, sharing photos before and after they succeeded. Some are revealing their own roots, some are showing where their role models began their journeys, but all of these posts are 100% wholesome and inspiring.

Key things to know: 1) she's a fashion designer 2) she's opened the first luxury durag store in Melrose in LA. 3) she funded it herself (no loans) (according to her statement) 4) it's been a year in the planning 5) she's planning a furniture line 6) she's 20. Now I'll admit that there can be a lot of hype around things, and a lot of that hype can fade quickly as a new "flavour of the month" is discovered .... HOWEVER.... I hope that she has amazing success and this is only the beginning of a fabulous career.

In most parts of the world — especially, the United States — it seems as though every 10 minutes yields another dire post on Reddit or Instagram.
Scary news puts our brains on high alert. As Rebecca Renner wrote in a wonderful piece for National Geographic, it was an advantage to our early ancestors, guarding them from predators and natural disasters, but now it leaves us “doomscrolling” through endless social media feeds to stay abreast of the latest threats.
Is that what the soccer world cup looks like? (Sorry I'm uneducated in this field) They could at least make it look nice and not like a piece of scrap metal poorly wrapped in gold leaf. Congrats on winning tho! :)
Our hearts race, and our minds keep looking for the next big catastrophe. We want to feel prepared, so we become addicted to the updates, coming back for more until the world seems far worse than before.
In Western culture, people usually tend to interpret present events negatively and often prefer the past, according to the research of Carey Morewedge, a professor of marketing at Boston University. That is because our autobiographical memories are highly programmed toward positivity -- when we think about the past, we mostly remember positive experiences. This is called "rosy retrospection," or "nostalgia bias."

Load More Replies...Even historians fall victim to this trap as well. It might lead to glittering terms like the "Gilded Age," says Erika Harlitz-Kern, a historian at Florida International University in Miami. In American history, for example, the Gilded Age refers to the period between 1870 and 1900, when the Industrial Revolution resulted in huge advancements in technology, culture, and the arts.
In 1888 Berta Benz took the first recorded road trip. Apparently she was fed up with her husband's conservative approach to careful (and therefore unprofitable!) testing of his automobile, so she and her teenage sons decided to shake things up a bit. At 5am one morning she took Karl's automobile, without asking, in order to demonstrate what it could do out on the open road. It was illegal at the time to drive on public roads. She had to get local cobblers to repair the leather brake linings on the way. She fixed a leaky valve with her garter and used hairpins to un-stick the valve ports. Her 60 mile road trip was a publicity sensation. Proper respect for her!!!
Very interesting indeed, I recently learned that from QI myself.

I wonder which is worth more? The ultra modern car or the antique value of both the lady's costume and her vehicle?
"But this time period was also a time of social inequality, great poverty, and the continued genocide and displacement of Native Americans," Harlitz-Kern pointed out. Nonetheless, the term Gilded Age refers to the period in an obviously positive light.
It looks like we will always be facing one issue or another. Or a few really big ones at once. So we really need to learn how to deal with them and not let them crush us. To quote Ernest Hemingway, "Man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated."
If making posts online in honor of even the slightest achievements gets us closer to persevering, let's do it.
Omg I hated that damn purple dinosaur. I think I was in 2nd or 3rd grade when he premiered. That song... and that voice! *cringe*
This is awesome - and would be even more inspiring if it showed an 'even earlier in the career of'. ie: before even getting on a popular, well-known kids show...
will you stop I keep seeing you here spreading hate this is about people's accomplishments.

Zoe's Mom, he sounds like a typical misogynist, that was probably beaten in sports by a woman, and is bitter.
Load More Replies...What is with all these misogynistic pigs on here? What the hell do you want and why are you all spouting these untrue opinions? Not to mention you all sound pissed. What the hell is the deal? Instead of praising this young woman or saying congrats to her and good for her; you’re all coming out and bashing women in sports for literally no reason. Why are you guys getting so up in arms about it? Do you not realize that women are human beings too? And we’re not a damn monolith, we’re individual people too. For gods sake, seriously what is going on with you people?
Joseph Kony, So what if they lose money? You don't have to be so rude about it to everyone who calls you out for being rude about it. That will just get more people to call you out.
Thenatural you are a misogynistic moron and everything you said was bullshit. Not facts at all just typical sexist crap. You seem to not understand that women are human beings too. And 12 13 boys who are, you know, still CHILDREN, have no chance of beating grown and experienced women you s**t.
@Joseph Kony I'm a veteran and am particularly offended when some snowflake troll describes themselves as "fighting a war" when they're sitting at their computer (probably in mom's basement). But you're just plain wrong according that bastion of capitalism The Wall Street Journal: It is currently estimated that the WNBA generates approximately $60 million in revenue, while $12.3 million of that revenue is distributed to its players.
this is Von8... creator of VCN Clothing. (Vision. Create Network Clothing) https://vcnclothing.com/
what kind of business is this for? Edit: I googled & found out. :)
So... she changed her mind about being a Bioengineer and now wants to do medicine instead? Okay, nothing wrong nor amazing about changing one's mind on what to do
In North America, in general you need to do a degree in any field to even apply to an MD program. Generally grueling process to just get in. It's not a great system IMO, although having different backgrounds before going into medicine can be a good asset.

If you don't know, this is Geno Auriemma, legendary Univ of Connecticut women's basketball coach who's led them to 11 national championships in the last 25 years.
I'm just gonna assume he's a coach or something cause otherwise this is way to painfully stupid to look at
As they say: Those who cannot do, teach. He can't play women's basketball, but he sure can coach it. The 16 championship rings speak to that pretty clearly.
Load More Replies...You are implying that women are worse than men. You could just point out it is a boy/man and not be rude.

First there were two of us, and now due to secret cloning technology, there's an even dozen!
I personally think that Beyonce's music is ok, my problem is just how overhyped it is
I feel the same, I get it she's good, but they've made it out like she's the queen of everything (eye roll) same with Oprah. Sure yea they're talented and have used to system in their favour but they're still human and honestly not that great

If my google search is right - these guys are all from Government Housing in the UK (the british equivalent of the ghetto, in the US), and had never acted before they got their roles in The Top Boy (Netflix show, in its 4th season). One of them is named Hope Ikpoku

finding your niche and your audience is no bad thing. Few successful people woke up and just nailed their craft, almost everyone had to adapt to suit their talents and what the world wanted from them.

Nicki Minaj from pop to rap.... love her...all others imitate....
Sad that people that make garbage music for retards or people that don't have pubes yet are called rapper of the decade. The industry still is about quantity and not quality. Same goes for that men-druggin' ex-stripper...
No, just based on that fact that Nicki Manaj has the most hits that have been in the top 10 for a female rapper (17)

Dean Smith - Michael Jordan's college coach, led the University of North Carolina to many national championships and made the university into a college basketball powerhouse which has produced many other famous NBA players like James Worthy, Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, and Sam Perkins.
I can explain this one!!! The Rangers sent out a letter a few years ago admitting to the fans they were going to go into a rebuild mode. They won the draft lottery this year and chose Alexis Lafrenière. One of those I get it but a bit meh compared to some of the others imo.
He looks like the reading rainbow dude. Upvote if you know what I'm talking about.
The hat’s not big enough for Doug Dimmadome, but there’s a definite Col. Sanders vibe as well.
Would be great to have context for these, because a lot of these are very genre-specific, and unless you have some idea of who these people are, there's little, if any real understanding to what the progress actually is.
Some names and context would be great. I have no clue who 90% of these people are.
The only disturbing thing was the EXTREMELY random bashing against women in sports in one of the posts for absolutely no reason at all. Once again just showing that women apparently can’t do anything without being hated on by certain men. Like they don’t like the idea that we’re human beings as well.
Would it be too much to ask to have descriptions on each of these? Some are fairly obvious (Beyonce, etc.), but the sports ones and many others were just young people and then older people, no context at all for this non-sporty person. And some of the others could have benefitted from some backstory.
This are... cute... some are truly amazing - many of the "famous" ones though.. like Don John mentions - yeeeah... so you mean they had a megaton of support from family, family friends, etc... hugely lucky breaks, enough money to go through whatever training/exposure was needed... aand they basically are doing well because they didn't manage to 100% screw it up? Okay... yes, wow... ?
Each (if not all) of these people: 1. Was at the right place, at the right time, to get noticed by the right person. 2. Knew someone who helped them early on. 3. Never suffered a setback which completely derailed them. --- Now list the 300,000 people who wanted to achieve their goal, but failed due to circumstances outside their control...
