This Twitter Page Shares Historical Pics, And Here Are 50 Of The Most Interesting Images
We’re doomed to repeat the same mistakes that humankind has made, over and over again, if we don’t have a solid grasp of history. But learning about the past is far more than just skimming through thick, dusty volumes. Seeing a quality photo from a specific event or time period can help you understand the atmosphere in a way that mere words can’t on their own. An image can really be worth a thousand words.
Though historical photos might be (mostly) black and white, we shouldn’t ignore the nuances and shades of grey that we might come across. The past is a very strange place, full of joy, despair, and change for the worse, as well as for the better.
The ‘Historical Pics’ Twitter page has been sharing powerful and impressive photos from the past in the hope of educating and entertaining social media users around the globe. Today, we’re featuring some of the top photos that the account has posted in their feed. Upvote the ones that really wowed you, Pandas, and let us know how they made you feel.
Meanwhile, scroll down for Bored Panda’s interview about historical photos with professional photographer Dominic Sberna, from the United States.

The ‘Historical Pics’ social media project has been sharing what it feels are the most iconic photos from the past since joining Twitter in October 2013.
By its own account, it only focuses on “the most magnificent and breathtaking” snapshots from history. Some of these photos might be completely fresh and unseen to you Pandas. Others, however, are so iconic that you’re bound to have laid eyes on them in history textbooks and in news articles.

Then he closes the door on them before eating a bon bon and returning to his chair.

He also pointed out that black-and-white photography is still very much viable even in 2022, though it takes more effort than just putting a filter on a digital image.
“I think a powerful image makes all the difference and in the same vein, what the subject matter is,” he told us.
“For example, an image of bar patrons after the repeal of Prohibition in the United States or equally when Prohibition was enacted and federal agents dumped thousands of gallons of beer and distilled spirits. Those images are powerful because they represent a period of history so well.”

Load More Replies...According to photographer Dominic, in this day and age, it all comes down to a photographer’s choice whether to go fully digital or to shoot on film.
“Nowadays, it's all about personal preference. Film still remains a true art form, whereas digital is quick and easy,” he summarized the difference.
“The quality of digital may or may not have surpassed film, but both are great mediums for different reasons,” he told Bored Panda.

What’s amazing about this, to me, is that even though you cannot make out the face at all, I instantly new is was Princess Diana. She was so prolifically displayed in the media that even those who only knew her through the media lens can instantly know this is her. The silhouette, the posture, the halo of her hair and, especially the way she holds her head, make her definitely recognizable without seeing her face.
Indeed. Though because of what Diana went through rules were changed that the British Press do abide by (Editors code ratified by PCC). To quote one key change: "Princess Diana's death raised concerns about the behaviour of paparazzi-style photographers. To address this, the rules on Harassment which became Clause 4 were revised to include a ban on information or pictures obtained through 'persistent pursuit'. The new Clause 4 also made explicit an editor's responsibility not to publish material that had been obtained in breach of this clause regardless of whether the material had been obtained by the newspaper's staff or by freelancers."

“Black and white photography is an art form in its own right. Many people will take a photo, convert it to black and white, and call it art. It's simply not that easy. Some photos just truly work better that way, while others not so much. At the end of the day, the decision lies with the artist/photographer.”
This was Aloha Airlines Flight 243. Fuselage joint metal fatigue exacerbated by crevice corrosion due to being operated in a costal environment. 1 fatality, 65 injured, 8 serious. It’s very human to look back at the past with a certain amount of nostalgia. We miss the days when we were happy, content, and loved. Usually (though not always), people yearn for their childhoods.
And though nostalgia has its upsides, you can easily get lost in it, and your quality of life in the present might suffer. It’s essential to find a healthy balance between the two.

"Nostalgia has the 'super power' of helping us feel better about the 'now' by connecting us to positive feelings from the 'then.' Nostalgia can help us feel better about ourselves and more in control of current situations if we're able to channel that positivity into concrete actions or a reframed mindset about the present. However, when we begin 'living in the past,' we may be inviting into our lives less than optimal mental wellness and potentially compromised physical wellbeing, too," Suzanne Degges-White, Ph.D., from Northern Illinois University told Bored Panda during an interview a while ago.
If they're going to West, why is there jam in both directions? 🤔 All roads lead to West?

Load More Replies...So weird this happened the same year that Pink Floyd was having a concert in Venice from pic above. Feels like it should be lifetimes apart.
Well I did some research and this pic was indeed taken in Berlin, but this traffic jam was on the West Berlin side. And 90% of the cars you see are western cars. However you see a significant amount of eastern cars. So it must be after 1989. But I assume, it had nothing to do with visiting each other. Residents of Berlin would not take a car to visit East Berlin and they pile up close to the Brandenburg Gate, but there was no big car check point for transit. So I assume it is just a usual traffic jam in early 90ies in Berlin.
I am sure that not everyone in East Germany had the ability to go West to see their relatives. So naturally the line would go both ways.

Certain historical events tend to attract conspiracy theories. And they’re more common during times of crisis, upheaval, and when people don’t feel safe. The desperate desire for clarity leads to some people more readily accepting conspiracies.
“Over the past 60 years, the assassination of JFK, the death of Princess Diana, and 9/11 are the most obvious examples of national traumas surrounded by conspiracy theory beliefs,” Joseph M. Pierre, a professor of psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, told Bored Panda some time ago.

So, it should come as no surprise that conspiracy theories might sprout up from World War II—a real-life apocalyptic battle between good and evil,” he explained.

Load More Replies...You sure that's '49? Those are awfully model-T style cards for nearly 1950.
OK, so let's start by saying these are not cars, they're Hackney Carriages. Their design was standardised and based on a Victorian specification. The 1920's approved design was taen up by Beardmore, Morris and Austin and therefore very similar looking cabs were in use throughout the 30s and 40s. The war stopped any further development until1948, so pre-war cabs hung around well into the 1950s.

Note the fact that ALL the cars are pre-war. When Britain geared for war they switched all civilian production to military production. They did it fast too. Within a year after Dunkirk factories that were producing cars were producing tanks. Factories that were making toasters were making ammo.

To think it almost didn't get built. A lot of people opposed it. Can you imagine the Bay area without it? It's a critical transportation artery and San Francisco could have easily been rendered a backwater without it.

I never realized how soon after completion this failed. I have worked in nuclear plants and the control room here looks kind of ancient (could just be the ravages of time after the disaster) so I googled when it was built. Plants 3 and 4 were completed in 1983. The disaster was April 1986. So barely 3 years of service on the second two plants.

The instructor decided it was a teachable moment, and so for about an hour we watched the "chase" and discussed how we would handle group dynamics if OJ was in our abusers' group. Fun times.
I heard, and this makes sense, that the jury found him innocent to pay back whitey for the injustices done to blacks. The jury knew he was guilty.
it’s like… waterskiing.. but with a horse and snow. i’m in.
Somewhere on YouTube, there's a video of an Amish horse and buggy doing donuts in what looks like a rest area. There was a driver, they weren't alone. /s

While I didn't see or read the interview where she said this, it's still plausible to me. She could know that they exist and where they live, maybe even know what they look like, but still have no clue about any details or what all is entailed in being a member of the family. I have no skin in this game, I just don't think that having taken a photo of yourself outside Buckingham palace means you automatically know anything about the royal family.

It is suspect that MM would not know or research her inlaws. Really how many women marry a relative of THE Queen? She is an actress and knows the value of preparation. MM spins her image to suit herself. Harry is a follower. Kinda relieved he is not in line for the throne.
Wait, why does everyone on here hate her so much? /gen, I legit want to know. I'm honestly so bewildered because she always seemed like society's hero or something
Because she’s so obviously fake. Because her behavior is textbook narcissistic. Because she is inventing being hounded by the press because of her endless need for attention, when she was never hounded by the press. Because she’s done everything to look like a white woman, yet now pulls the race card, when no one cared(s) that she is bi-racial. Because she acts like she’s she significantly “influence” when she’s actually done nothing charitable or newsworthy, except marry Prince Harry.

The monarchy needs to be abolished. (Please vote me down as you see necessary.)
You may be right (I don't know enough about how it works to make a definitive decision) but we should still maintain the castles & palaces because they are historical sites and pieces of architectural art.

The real perversion is: Carnegie earned much more money than Rockefeller ever did, but because he reinvested in his employees and was a big philanthropist, he only was richer than Rockefeller for a short time when he sold his steel company, but he gave away 90% of his fortune to others, so he's never ever mentioned although he earned much more money than all of them. The world pretends to celebrate success, but that's not true, it loves to celebrate egoistical A$$hats who brag loud and does it's best to hush everything about the people who were successful, wealthy and still decent enough to share their excesses. Carnegie died wealthy and in well deserved comfort while sharing with those who made his fortune and those who were less fortunate. But no one ever talks about Carnegie.
Andrew Carnegie is still celebrated in Scotland. He was born in a humble little cottage in Dumfermline. He did not forget Dumfermline, and Scotland when he made his fortune. So many schools and libraries bear his name. He advanced education of the masses.

My father was a gentle Slav from western Pennsylvania. One of the few people he hated was Rockefeller. He always quoted this line when Rockefeller was mentioned. It seems Rockefeller not only wanted to drive others out of business, but also wanted to make it hurt.

It took us 100 years, but there's finally more disparity in wealth than during the gilded age of this time. I was hoping the one redeeming trait of a populist movement in US conservatism would be scrapping trickle down nonsense. Nope. They ignored the one aspect of their angst that would help them, and just embraced the bigotry and ignorance. Quite the surprise.
A horrible human being and family. Contributed to many wars - on both sides...
A woman found that dress in a box full of crushed dresses in an opportunity (charity) shop in Victoria, Australia. No-one knows how it got there.
That would be a very interesting story! And TIL charity shops are called opportunity shops in Australia!
