Here Are 30 Of The Most Interesting Things I’ve Found On The Beach While Looking For Treasures (New Pics)
I spend most of my days beachcombing and searching for sea treasures to make beach-themed jewelry.
While searching for seashells on the beach in Ankaran, Slovenia, I was finding a lot of glass, ceramics, old coins, silverware, and other amazing 100+-year-old finds. With some research, I found out that I find so many amazing historic items because in the past (around 100 years ago), Italian ships would come here and dump trash in the sea. Over the years, with the waves and many storms, historic finds that are hidden under the mud in the sea wash up on the beach.
One of my proudest finds is a 200-year-old undamaged Maraschino bottle from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After finding it, I returned it back home to the Cosmacendi Palace, where the maker of the bottle once lived, and which is now the Museum of Ancient Glass! It was not only an incredible find, but also a bottle without any proof that it even existed.

All Of The Bottles Were Found On The Beach
Wow, I'm jealous! The closest I ever got was finding a perfect half sphere of a Japanese fishing float on Jewel Beach on Kodiak Island, Alaska. I wasn't even on Fishing Float Beach!! The islands currents are situated such that certain things end up on certain beaches around the island. Jewel Beach is covered in sea glass, Fossil Beach has... well, fossils and dinosaur bones, especially aquatic fossils. Fishing Float Beach has lots of glass fishing floats, there's one beach with white sand (all the sand/ dirt on the island is black, courtesy of volcanic eruptions from Mt. St. Helens), there's a beach that has fossilized wood/ plants, etc. In 60 m on Jewel Beach I filled up a 3 gallon bucket with sea glass, and I was being picky!

These are gorgeous!! Where I grew up it was only 40 minutes to Galveston Texas. I would walk up and down the coast and find shark teeth. I have a handful of teeny tiny ones and the way up to one the size of a quarter. I never knew till a Rice University professor walked up to me and explained that I had a handful of ancient (BC) petrified sharks teeth

For me, this is the only joy of being on a beach, is to find such treasures. I especially enjoy the Gulf coast of Florida which has so many different prehistoric sharks' teeth, but I would love any beach where you can find beauties like these. I don't understand how people can just lie on a beach all day doing nothing!

Reminds me of my grandma's house. It was a bar/restaurant in the 30s and 40s. Every year we would dig the garden and find pieces of pottery and glass. I had the most fun digging in the dirt for treasure
Loveeeeee. My favourite thing on the beach- seaglass finds and sea pottery. Never had a pleasure to find a red one tho. Do you have any red one for sale? x I got those blue ones and was so happy- normally just clear ones, green and brown :) The white disk was a treasure too- never found anything this round and frosted.
gosh these were all so beautiful! you're incredibly lucky to be able to go on mini adventures on the beach and come home with these amazing treasures. these pictures felt so magical, when i imagined all the places these curio's could've been to, and where they came from. thank you for sharing them! they were gorgeous :)
Where is your beach? I definitely need to go there one day. I love to find tiny shells and collect Echinocyamus pusillus skeletons...
Facinating. I find looking for shells on the beach very therapeutic- you can walk for hours and just enjoy the simplicity of it.

It looks like this beach may have been a dumping ground years and years ago hence so much sea glass. There is a beach in California that has the same. There was a small town built by the cliff and folks discarded their garbage by dumping it over the cliff onto the beach/ocean. It's actually called Sea glass beach but so many artist found out about it and raided the beach of all it's glass.

While I found beauty in all your findings, it saddens me that we (humans) throw too much garbage to the ocean.
I agree with you... sometimes when collecting these "treasures" I think that in a way I am cleaning the beach :) At first, I started to collect these because I was sad to see little kids swimming and jumping around this "trash" and started taking them to the trash can until I learned how old these pieces were. Now I display them at home.

My bf gave me an abalone shell from when we went on a picnic last year with his sister, his Mum and her partner. It sits in my little box of treasures that I have put away. I would love to go beach hunting when it's safe to travel again..
I grew up near the beach in southeast Queensland and I don't think I've ever seen sea glass! :(
These were all quite nice, but my favorites were the tiny shells and sea stars. 🐚 ⭐️ I am so jealous. xD
