The funniest or most romantic wins!

My beau took me to aen exhibit in ancient jewels at a museum in the hopes of finding a pretty place to propose. Unfortunately, all the jewelry, to quote him, "was far prettier than the ring"... i think he expected tiny gems or metals not massive emeralds and rubies sewn into elaborate headdresses and such... anyway, so we left there and walked a really long walk to the waterfront. I was hot and sweaty and looked awful lol.
We sat on a bench but there were bees, so we moved. We went to another but a kid came over and pushed his way between us so we went to another. The third bench had a squawking seagull. On the fourth bench, breath and he pulled out a book and it was one of those lovebooks and on each page had a little cartoon version of us and something he had written about all the reasons he loves me. I thought it was super sweet. He pulled out the ring and knelt down and told me about his vision for the future, and how he knows he loves me etc. The entire time a fly kept buzzing in his face so he kept swatting it away.
It didn't matter though, it was all so nice.
I couldn't stop crying but somehow choked out yes.
I'm elated, called my mum, she was in a starbucks drivethru and she was very quiet and seemed very confused. I called my dad, my dad was like "hell no" and hung up.
We went for a nice lunch at an incredibly snooty restaurant that didn't want us there.
I cried literally the whole time over my parents' reactions.
The worst part is to go on this trip we met up at a train station so he went home and I went back to deal with my parents... was the worst night of my life. They were very angry. Turns out, knowing they are traditional, he asked their permission, and they said 'not yet' as I was still in school. They liked him but just didn't want me to leave school for him. He hadn't at all expected that answer, but had already planned everything out in his head so asked me anyway. Made the entire engagement awful tbh.
But... almost 3yrs post-wedding my parents still adore him and have built a bridge and gotten over it. I'm still in school, and I still have that book he made.
We are opposite personalities in many ways. I am an early riser, and very punctual. He is perpetually late to everything and rarely in bed before 3 a.m. If we go anywhere, he will always find something he HAS to do right before we leave, and about 50% of the time, it's taking our dogs on one more walk.
Anyway, it's 9 p.m. and we are on our way out the door to visit his brothers when he says we need to walk the dogs first. It was late and cold, and I was already tired, but I love our dogs, so it's hard to say no.
As we walked in front of the church near our house, he handed me the second leash. I assumed he had to tie his shoe, so I kept walking. A moment later, when he hadn't caught up, I turned back, and he was down on one knee with a ring, and written in sidewalk chalk was "[My name], will you marry me?"
It was simple and perfect for so many reasons that would take pages to gush over, but I loved it and him. We had a pandemic elopement in 2020!
He was due to go to Iraq and randomly said I should book the Registrar for us to get married before he was deployed. He was worried that if anything happened to him I wouldn’t need the stress of trying to get death benefits from the MoD on top of dealing with the kids and everything else. Romantic? Possibly not so much but practical. Sums him up so well. We had no pomp and circumstance and celebrated with an impromptu bbq in our garden. We celebrate our 20th anniversary in April 2023.
We'd been together 3 years and had a son. Driving home from his parents one day, son falls asleep so we keep driving around. Drove for almost 2 hours and had the best talk ever about our relationship. We get home, I put son to bed and get to the living room to find him kneeling in front of the couch. Tells me he doesn't have a ring yet, but puts a fancy cigar band on my finger and asks me to marry him. 5th time he's asked (I was divorced, scared to mess up again), but somehow it seemed right this time, so I said yes. He was so stunned he fell onto his bottom. Then snatched me up saying he knew he'd wear me down eventually! 29 years together, married for 25, 2 great kids and 2 amazing grandchildren (1 this Christmas!).
A couple of weeks before the pandemic started, my partner and I embarked on a round-the-world trip and I wanted to propose while we were away. My friend’s Mum crocheted two mice that were dressed up like us on our travels for us to take with us and I hid the ring in one of the teeny backpacks. Due to the swift onset of Covid and Claire being a doctor in a hospice, she was needed back home and we flew back after three weeks, way before I’d planned to propose.
We lived in a one bedroom apartment at the time which was cramped during isolation, so rather than waiting for our next trip, I set about adjusting my plan. I secretly converted our loft into a second bedroom of sorts, with an airbed with white sheets. I hung some fairy lights and drapes and made it really cozy. I put rose petals in a heart on the bed and our travelling mice in the middle. When she got home, I told her to get ready for a date but led her ‘upstairs’. She loved it! Once she’d explored, I told her to check the backpack of her mouse and popped the question. I have never been more nervous in my life. It was even more special that the ring had joined us on our trip without her knowing.
She said yes!
She proposed to me a few months later when we were putting our Christmas tree up by hiding the ring inside a bauble.
That Christmas, she contracted covid and ended up very poorly, in hospital for several months. I couldn’t see her for the whole time she was in. Two years later she is still suffering from chronic lung problems, but she is also the strongest person I know.
I will always be glad I didn’t wait for the ‘right’ time to ask her, and just did it. She is the best thing that ever happened to me and I am so lucky, I still can’t believe she said yes.
Well, I was the one doing the proposing, but it was fun. A few weeks into dating my girlfriend and I were watching the movie "Mallrats" and decided to go to Universal Orlando the next day. So, early in the morning we go to Orlando, get a hotel room, and head to the park. The first day we went to Islands of Adventure and had a pretty good time, but the second day was the one we were both waiting for.
All day, I was nervously heading toward the Jaws ride and my girlfriend knew what was going to happen, so she kept moving me in that direction as well. Being a bit nervous, I finally suggested we go on the ride and just as soon as the shark jumped out of the water I said "So, do you want to marry me or what?". She expected something more romantic, but I was a bit worried that she would say 'no', so she made me wait a full ten seconds before finally saying 'Yes!'. Two months later we were married and had our honeymoon at Universal...
