Hey Bandas, (Pun Intended) Tell Me Your Best Band Stories!
Mine are:
The time out percussion started a fund for “Fredrick, the spider that lives in the band room”they actually managed to raise 20 or so bucks before they were shut down. Then they created a memorial for him in the back of the room with leftover Christmas ribbon.
A trumpet learned to play “final brain cell” on his horn, and each time someone does something boneheaded we hear “ittttsss the fi-nal brain ceeeeell.’ in the back.
So, what’re yours?

Well...Years ago,I played bass and was in a metal/rock cover band. Mostly 90s and 2000s sings, but an odd mix of styles. Cranberries, Audioslave, Tool, Metallica, and a couple of Skynard tunes. It was more for fun and giggles and we just wanted to play tunes we like. Anyway, we got a chance to play this little hotel bar one night. We load up, get there to set up and realize the drummer forgot his cymbal bag...füuuuuuuuuk...An hour or more to go get them so off he went, gets back and we are READY TO ROCK! We go out to take the stage and *insert record scratch sound* see nothing but older folks wearing cowboy hats, country/ western wear and giant belt buckles....hoo boy...Decided to open with Gimme 3 Steps, and it went over well...the rest, not so much. 3 songs in and they kicked us off. Folks in the audience said we sounded great...just the wrong kinda music. Lesson learned...know the vibe of the venue.😉👍
At the end of "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson, there is meant to be a trumpet playing a trill that sounds like a horse whinnying. We agreed ahead of time that every other instrument in the symphony would play that bit in rehearsals. It drove our conductor nuts! We'd get to the end of the piece, and she'd just brace herself. Would there be a viola whinnying this time? Or an oboe? The tuba player was the best, though; it sounded like a brontosaurus whinnying!
