Love can be such a sad and weary game to play. We struggle between an uncontrollable desire to make things work and nudging our egos up to the point we burn out.
Paradoxically, it’s never been so easy to feel this lonely in the age of dating apps when your love interest is available a swipe away. So we all need a gentle reminder not only for a dentist’s visit, but also so that we know that true love exists and that we all deserve it.
And for this reason, Bored Panda has compiled some of the most beautiful and heartwarming couple posts to lift up our spirits. Most importantly, it’s little things that seem to keep the flame burning, like a plastic cockroach you've put into each other's shoe for the past 20 years or playing Mario Kart over a cup of tea since 2001.

Marie's Family Abandoned Her After She Married Jake, Her True Love In 1948. They're Still Happily Married For Over 70 Years Through The Power Of Love
Her dad told her, "If you marry that man you will never set foot in this house again." Mary soon learned that most people felt the same way. The first years of their marriage living in Birmingham were hell - no one would speak to them, they couldn’t find anywhere to live because no one would rent to a black man, and they had no money. But they didn't give up.
Gradually life became easier. Mary got teaching jobs, ending up as a deputy headteacher. Jake worked in a factory and then got a job at the Post Office. Slowly they made friends, but it was difficult. Mary used to tell people, "Before I invite you to my home... My husband is black." Some would never talk to her again.
Last year they celebrated their 70th anniversary and they are still very much in love, and never regretted what they did.

In 1975, my white 24 year old doctor dad's mother gave him an ultimatum. Either end things with my brown mum, or she'll never speak to him again. He chose the latter. After being together for only six weeks they got married and last month celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. They're living out the rest of their lives in their beautiful farmhouse in the middle of nowhere in the French countryside and still act like loved up teenagers. That woman is a f***ing c*nt, once she even beat my mum up when she barged into my parents' flat while my dad was at work. He.came home to that scene, so he pulled his mother off my mum and literally threw her out. There is a happy ending though, when I was 4 she had cancer and died. Silver linings!

This Is Who I Married
I was painting my nails and made a comment that I forget I don't have to paint my pinky nail on my left hand. I simply forget that I lost my pinky, but it is always kind of a bummer when I am reminded. Matt said "I will be your surrogate pinky. You can paint my pinky to match your nails for the rest of our lives"
And so we did...

My parents disowned me for marrying my husband because my father is a narcissist and didn't approve of him. This happened when I was 39. Hard to believe that this still happens but it does. The story behind this picture of my grandparents: They have been married for over 60 years. My grandmother is suffering from dementia and has recently had a stroke. But as soon as he walked in she said “that’s my boyfriend Willis” and he laid there with her.

I think a close friendship is a sound basis for a successful romantic/intimate relationship... I had parents who often didn't like each other very much (apparently that trend started soon after they became engaged). It certainly created a lot of tension and unhappiness in our familial home.

Some do so through their actions. My husband will say it if I say it first, but he always does things to make sure I’m safe and happy. He does things like making sure the car is in good repair, full of gas, and with all the fluids and oil checked, changed, or refilled—-so I won’t get stranded. He’ll come home with a little something for me, like flowers or something else he knows I like. So, even though he’s not very verbal or demonstrative about it, he shows me he loves me, which means even more than words.

this is refreshing and rare. Photography was new then and the fashion was to not smile for a picture, which is why so many are dour. Queen Victoria apparently was cute and twinkly and smiley in real life but found it more dignified to be solemn for a photo. Which is why we have such a biased view of her being humourless etc.

It wasn't a fashion. A picture took a long time to take, and they were serious because they had to hold the same expression for ages otherwise their face would show up blurry, and being serious was less taxing than smiling.

They had to hold still for a long time so that the photo wouldn't blur and that works best with a neutral facial expression. That's why people in old portraits look so grim.

Unusual for them to be touching foreheads in the first picture (assuming they're in sequence)... you don't see that in usual Victorian pictures. Couples do not touch and have sombre expressions as a general rule. This rarity is lovely to see!

I rode the first Covid wave and it was baaaad. There was little testing and no medical protocol. My ex boyfriend moved in, living upstairs while I lived downstairs. Lying prone on the sofa, I'd catch his bed head peeking around the corner every morning. "You all right?" "Can I get you anything?" " I'll be back xyz time." Our break up was bitter and painful, but he stepped up to the plate when I needed him. We're so much better as best friends than a couple. And he makes me laugh. A lot.

My parent's song was "Waltz Across Texas" and it didn't matter where it played, grocery store, Walmart, etc., dad would always take hold of my mom and they would dance. It was embarrassing as a kid but I would do anything to see it again. When we buried my dad, we played the song as everyone filed out of the funeral home... we will do the same when mom's time comes.

This was another Bored Panda article. The couple arranged a photoshoot and each told the photographer separately that they planned to propose to the other. Photographer thought she'd let 'em sort it out and surprise each other and was on hand to get the photos of it. (Fortunately, she knew the outcome!)

We weren't even engaged yet. My sister died. He spent so much time with me for two weeks that he was fired from his job. I felt like absolute crap that he'd lost his job, and he just said, "I'll find another job, you need me". i bawl my eyes out just thinking about it, and it's been 30 years...

The little inside jokes between me and my husband are what I live for. Even something simple as we always ending a chat convo (whatsapp, messenger) with 'codi'. It was from when I mistyped 'doei' (bye) on my keyboard and just stuck. It also has a different meaning from just bye. Codi means it's really the last message we sent and the other shouldn't continue the conversation either, because the one that said codi will be unable to respond (afk, going to sleep, at work, etc). Ah yeah, little things, they still make me smile, after being together for over 20 years now :)
