Turns Out, There’s A “You Had To Be There” Trend On Twitter And Here Are 75 Of The Best Tweets About It
Nostalgia is a powerful and, quite frankly, fun thing. Many of us likely have a favorite TV show we watched the first thing in the morning while preparing for school, the same one that influenced our personalities. Or perhaps you can recall the lighter things, the ones that make you laugh and grant some respite from the hectic pace of the world. And then there are the light mistakes, like the popular candy that left a sour taste in your mouth. Basically, nostalgia comes in many forms, we each have fond memories related to childhood (or not-so-distant youth!), and from time to time, it's nice to recall the carefree days of our lives.

Yes I remember making these, but what did you call them? In the UK where I lived we called them scoobedoo, but wasn't that the name of a dog in a cartoon as well?
These were an absolute fad in the mid 1960s, and I and all my friends - boys and girls - were constantly making things with them. Decades later, I taught my daughter how to make them, and she took them to school and viola!, another craze was born. I still have a huge bunch of the strands in my man-cave, and occasionally use them in model making.
Twitter users jumped right on the ongoing trend of "You had to be there", posting pictures that encapsulate certain times in their lives. Some of the posts can involve things from a few years ago, while others go back decades—and each of them is accompanied by the feeling of nostalgia that's attached to the pictures.
Plenty of people are jumping in on this trend, from regular folk to official and certified accounts, each post presenting a blast from the past that was somehow special for them, be it TV series that aired a decade ago or a newer movie that's only a few years old. Time is a flexible thing, and the trend reflects different periods that people grew up in.
And there's an unspoken rule to these posts—you shouldn't add a description to the pictures. Basically, if you know, you know. If you don't, don't worry about it. The variety of the posts—containing old movies, physical items, or discontinued media—apply to people of different ages. So, there's a bit of everything for everyone.
Man, this reminds me of my first car (an Acclaim). Like driving a pillow with better safety ratings.

I was not there. I was born in 2000. I am too young to be a millenial, but I am too old for gen z... I am like a ghost, stuck between two worlds but belonging to neither.
