New Google App Finds Your Museum Doppelganger But Not Everyone Is Loving The Results
A while back, we made a post about people who were perusing art museums and galleries and spontaneously stumbled upon their famous doppelgangers, in a fine art form.
Perhaps inspired by this, Google has decided to add a feature to their Arts & Culture app that uses facial recognition technology to match your selfie with classical art. The portraits are pulled from a database of celebrated works collected from over 1000 museums worldwide, so the chances of a half-decent match should be fairly high, shouldn’t they?
Well now the results are in, and it’s fair to say that they are mixed, at best. This seems to part of the appeal, however, as people have begun posting their funny photos online and they are proving to be wildly popular. You can see why!
Sadly, the feature isn’t yet available outside of the U.S. so if you’re not stateside and would like to give to find who's your look-alike from classical paintings, you’ll have to be a little patient. In the meantime, however, you can scroll down below and check out what others have been compared with. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite!

They just picked an Asian art piece ... She doesn't resemble that in any way 😂😂
I'm sorry but the only reason that you got matched to David is because you're naked and have a towel or whatever it is draped over your shoulder.
This one is photoshopped or something. They don't show the museum where the art is located, unlike with the others.
Well spotted! Another indicator is the "100% match" - on the other pictures the % sign and digits are the same height.
Load More Replies...Actually according to what I just read David may have been better endowed than his statue shows. Haven't you ever wondered why almost every old statue is graced with a rather underwhelming appendage? According to How To Talk About Art History, it turns out that back in the day bigger was not always better at all. In fact, bigger was actually frowned upon – as the majority felt a big penis was synonymous with a man who was ‘foolish, lustful, & ugly’ – according to art historian Ellen Oredsson. Back in the ancient era’s, the smaller a penis was, the more rational & intellectual the owner was – apparently. these ideals were even documented in ancient literature, such as in Clouds by Aristophanes
Add to that is that it was considered poor taste to put large penises on statues in the time David was done. So why you Happy?
Yes, isn't it funny we have to pixilate his privates, but not David's. David is more musclecular.
So, back in the day when this sculpture was made, it was fashionable to have a small d**k. It supposedly meant you were intelligent and cultured, as having a big one obviously meant you'd be a crude beast obsessed with sex. That's why all the sculptures from that time and place have small..ahem...packages. It was actually desirable and preferred.
Well, how can we judge the accuracy of the match when half the photo is blocked out?
Having seen the real thing I would not be to happy with being matched with Michelangelo's David. He's not exactly blessed in the manhood Department.
You don't want to be compared with David! He has a small wee-wee! *LMAO*
Do the same pose please! I think there really is a strong resemblance.
wow, thats a good one. I cant put my finger on what exactly makes it such a good match but theres definitely a strong resemblance
I want someone to recreate or even take a picture of a famous piece and see if it's 100%
There's one in the list of someone using a picture of the Mona Lisa (did not match the Mona Lisa) but that would be interesting to see with someone recreating something or taking an actual picture rather than using a pic off the internet.

I was wondering why it would not work for me. That's c**p.
Load More Replies...Oh yeshhh, give them more image of your face, and keep using faceID :))
WTH is this c**p? This app is broken. Very few entries resemble each other.
My dad got this creepy little henchman guy and it creeps him out. I think he's secretly disappointed tbh
Damn, some were so accurate and funny but others were quite disapointing indeed.
I think the museum portrait in #10 looks like the V.P. on "Scandal"!!!
I am in Netherlands.. i have the app but cant find the part to find your Art double. :-(
I think several people are using the app incorrectly. If you are wearing glasses, or have hair dropping over your face, or the photo is marred by light reflections, or you are at a weird angle, or whatever---then, of course, you are not going to get any sort of accurate match. On top of this, not everyone has had their twin painted during the course of the history of art, so some of us are just SOL.
I remember there was something similar to this when I was a kid, but it was online and it would match your selfie with a famous person... It matched me with Saddam Hussein.
I hope people are using this app for more than pasting their mismatched mugs online. Sigh.
This function is currently only in the US available, at least that's what google says on the app description
Trump is similar to the fourth US president James Madison https://twitter.com/userkc/status/953791687674888197
I don't see the part of the app that does this. How do I get started on this?
As people mentioned above, it's only available in the US :(
Load More Replies...So, it looks like the app is mainly matching color rather than shape when it can't find a match that closely matches... that's where a lot of the wtf ones are coming from.
