Shopping for everyday items after a long day at work is that mundane task some of us truly dread. There's just something so annoying about an overly helpful shop assistant when you just want to shop in peace. And some supermarkets are so big that you can spend 20 minutes just looking for the cheese section.

However, some stores have found ways not to only solve most of the problems, but to make shopping more fun. These genius ideas collected by Bored Panda, are found in various superkarkets and stores all over the world. Which ideas would you like to implement in your local supermarkets? Tell us in the comments below!

Is it such a big deal to say that instead of selling this to their patrons, who then will donate it to a shelter, supermarkets should donate the food directly themselves? Not exact on the figures, but I read that supermarkets throw away like a third of their products simply because it does not look appealing. Not expired, rotten, or smells bad, just does not look appealing.

Our local store works directly with the food bank and has premade boxes. You can pay for the box and they deliver them directly to the food bank.

We did this at a store where I worked. The meal boxes were only $10, and were behind the register. So many people would say "...and I'll buy x of those boxes, too."

This is so genius. Sometimes I enter a store, especially perfume or makeup, and the assistant follows me like a shadow of mine. What I do is just leave, even if I really wanted to buy an item. Shops should realize that this hurts their profits rather than increasing their sales.

If I need assistance, I will ask for it! I don't like an employee chasing after me. In several cases, they're hoping for a commission, but in my opinion, that's not the way to earn it!!

In most make-up stores (like innis-free) the employees don't commissions at all, just hourly wages. They are still encouraged to "help" customers. It is the worst in make up stores in Seoul. Leave me alone, I can pick out a lipstick shade myself, thankyouverymuch.

Once a checkout lady while scanning my groceries (at Waitrose, UK) asked if I wanted a different bag of pears (prepacked bag of organic pears) because the pears in the bag I picked looked like they had a few faults/marks on them. There was absolutely nothing wrong with them. I told her that I'm fine, that I don't expect them to be perfect looking, as they are organic. I think she was just trying to be nice and attentive but it's sad that she thought that there was something wrong with the pears just because they didn't look perfect. We've got wrong standards re food these days. I'd take a fallen and beaten natural organic pear from a garden over a perfect looking one from a mass producer sprayed with god knows what every time.

Now THIS is a good idea! Usually, when I tell a store clerk about a cart, their reaction is "Meh." Perhaps if they have this repair tag on them, the appropriate person will notice and act. Good idea.

No but my buggies broke. (Actually had this problem. I'm from East Tennessee, I live in Oak Ridge. My first visit to California I went to the local store in San Bernardino and asked were there buggy's were. She said I'll get the manager to see if we sell them. Out West you need a cart, and we need buggies. Can't wait to use a trolley with wonky wheels!) I'm the redneck with a beard in my bibs. You can find me easily...I'm the one with the duh look 😂

In China, as soon as it rains there are 300 people at every corner streets selling umbrellas. Where they are hiding is still a mystery, but they're always here. The same thing in summer with fans (the hand ones, not electrical) but those are free.

In my country one retailer tried to do "borrow the umbrella" promotion. Basically, they had a bunch of umbrellas with their advertisement and if the rain came suddenly while you were in the store, you could borrow the umbrella from the shop and return it back later. Not sure if they still do that.

In our city they have free umbrellas you can take with you when you're in the city, almost every store and place has these "umbrella stations" so when you're done you can put it back anywhere you want. Many of these do get stolen though since it certainly rains a lot here...

We have these in some westfield malls, I think it is a horrible thing, to show kids that adults just cannot cope with going to do shopping without drinking ? sure go sit in a cafe, sit on a bench seat whatever. Then also the fact that the majority of these people will end up driving the car home...how is that in any way responsible service.

That's a good idea, if you want to try something new but aren't sure you want a whole bottle of wine, or a whole six-pack. Years ago, one of my husband's friends bought a six-pack of chocolate stout. The friend drank one, hated it, and passed it to my husband. My husband drank one, hated it, and passed it to another friend. That friend drank one, hated it, and passed it to yet another friend, who then gave the remaining two bottles back to my husband (who wasn't even the original purchaser). My husband gave the last two bottles to his aunt, who'd drink anything. She happily consumed those two bottles, and wanted to know where she could get more. :-)

Oh, we have them too, but he difference is that we have way stricter rules and nobody but the Police is legally allowed to cary a firearm on the streets without a special permission, even if they have a permit for possession. Unfortunately, it’s too easy for illegal ones to cross the border from the States and those are the problem.

Years ago, I read a makeup tip that said basically the same thing--if you're going to be spending most of your day in natural light, do your makeup near an open window. If you're going to be spending most of your day under office fluorescents, bright bathroom lighting works well. If you're getting ready for an evening out, dim your lights to simulate candlelight. You'll get better results if you apply your makeup in lighting as close as possible to where you'll be wearing it the most.

Wow, this definitely seems more hygienic than when they just sit uncovered all day (especially in the heat of summer when there's flies about 🤢)

It would be cool if you can say what bread you like and make it for you while you shop and when you are done you can pick up fresh made bread.

this became popular in big stores - you scan your goods while putting them to trolley and then just pay the sum calculated by the device. this a very smart idea too

I like them ripe, but I also like them a bit unripe. Then they are tart, but still very flavorful. Slightly unripe is also best for pies. Besides, I think they normally are totally green on one side, and kind of dark orange on the other, so the best way to know, is to fell them.

When I worked as a grocery store cashier, apples were sold by piece, bananas/grapes by pound. If someone told me their kid ate a banana, or a handful of grapes, they almost always had the rest of the bunch in their cart. I'd ask them to show me which of the remaining bananas looked closest in size, or I'd ask them to break off a bunch of grapes that looked like the amount their kid ate. I'd weigh the bunch *before* breaking off the extra banana/grapes, then I'd weigh the broken-off fruit. That way, they paid fairly for everything they consumed/intended to consume.

Jeezum Crow! In New Hampshire, outdoor patios have to have boards at head level so no one walking down the street can see you drinking! Hard to get the view when there's a big plank at your head level!

I've found that all the grocery stores I've ever shopped at often change up where they stock their goods. This is to force the shopper to then have to "explore the store" to find what they want. I'm told it's done so that, hopefully, shoppers will make additional purchases by coming across items they wouldn't have otherwise thought about. Frankly, this pisses me off.
