There have been a lot of talks and discussions about how different generations are and how that affects them understanding each other and getting along. Having this in mind, Reddit user @Prolificvisions decided to ask: “Gen Z, what are some trends, ideologies, social things, etc. that millennials did that you're not going to continue?” The question that got 12.4k upvotes got generation Z naming things that they find weird and annoying, such as not having any privacy or choosing a stable job that they don’t like instead of going for their dream. They also named some of the rather funny answers such as getting rid of the fashion of “weird-a** eyebrows.”
If you are Gen Z, what things would you say “bye” to? Don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below!

Identity politics. F**king hate it. I don't give a s**t what your skin color is, what your genitals are, or which genitals you want to f**k. I'm just gonna treat you like a person.
If only you WOULD treat them like a person. That's the problem. Good for you if you truly treat each person LIKE a person. "Identity politics" are necessary because enough people DON'T treat each person like a person. This whole article so far is getting a little disturbing at what is perceived to be some kind of "injustice" that we need to get rid of, when many of them are, actually, injustices we are working to correct.
I get it. Being a black man, I totally understand the fight for equality. But there's a point where it becomes TOO much. I've always treated everybody equal anyway. Doesn't matter what/who you are. But i believe that if the cause is being rammed down everyone's throat hardcore everyday, that impedes the progress of making said cause more acceptable. IMO
Exactly, if everyone was treated equally, things would be a lot special.
Load More Replies...No sorry, this is still really important. We aren't yet in the ideal society where everyone is equal, and until we get there we need to support minorities and give them a voice. Saying 'I don't care' is just another way of suppressing other people's perspectives, and ensures you remain ignorant to the suffering minority people experience. Everyone needs to check their privilege.
Sometimes without an existing label you are lost and not sure who you are. For example - many asexuals have no idea they're not hetero before they learn about asexuality. And it might be unpleasant when you don't understand why your relationships don't work.
Identity politics simply separates people, rather than bringing them together
Dependance on social media. When you take a step back and realize how ridiculous its gotten.
Umm...that is definitely a Gen z thing, not a millennial thing. Gen z is the generation that is glued to their phones and obsessed with the "influencer" life
IDK, seems like I would have to be on social media enough to notice. Pretty much only use bored panda and messenger so don't see it as a problem. Don't understand the endless criticism of it because it is easy to just not use it.
F**k social media. It's pathetic that for some people, instagram likes are their only source of validation. Get a life.
Yeah but then who would they get all their facts from....books, actual experts, real people .....now that would be a change
I only use it for business and sending pictures of my kid to the aunties. I've seen a LOT more social media stuff from Gen Z kids. Tik Tok counts, you know.
I'm hoping to God that this whole 'getting offended on other people's behalf' is not something you guys are continuing.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. You don't get offended on other peoples behalf. You stand up for what is right because it is right.
The OP is talking about people who pretend to be offended on behalf of people who are not themselves offended. It's nothing more than virtue signaling, and it's as empty and meaningless as a politician's promises.
Load More Replies...It is extremely condescending. I hate when I hear/read people talking for disabled people or migrants or whatever without knowing what they are talking about. It always sounds patornizing and insulting; like we arent intelligent enough to speak our minds. From all the people I know in person, the ones who are always offended are pretending to be woke when in reality they are as discriminatory as the bigots they fight.
Exactly. These people make it worse! "You're not disabled, you're differently abled; you can do anything if you put your mind to it!" No. I am disabled. I cannot do what you can do. That's the f*****g point. Erasing my disability just makes it harder for me to conform.
Load More Replies...I take this on a case-by-case basis. I'd rather speak up. How I do that depends on the situation, the other person, my mood, etc. I've only had one person double-down, attack my views, and try to convert me to their way of thinking. After a while, I kicked them out of my life; better for my mental health.
jfc, yes. My elder-millennial in-law caught this from someone and I just don't get it
as millennial i'd say this is something Z'ers started (or maybe some other letter) because for sure this didn't exist in my days
It sounds as if you grew up in a time when no one complained. As a generation-X/boomer cusp, in my growing-up days, outrage was reserved for gay people, feminists, and Black protesters. Later, immigrants from South Asia were added to the mix. On the other hand, the vice-principal at my high school was free to hug and physically pick up female students.
Load More Replies...It’s almost fun to people get offended for someone else. Case - Britney Spears. Not one single person who protested/commented/verbally stood up for that woman was actually affected by any of the things that happened to her.
Just because it doesn't affect you personally doesn't mean you shouldn't empathize and support.

Lip injections.
Nope. They would have been too young to be doing it when it first became popular. This whole list is very weird.
Load More Replies...Lip injections are fine, imo, unless you use them to transform your lips into what appears to be a horizontal labia.
Gen Z is bigger on this than any generation before them. Also you can’t see good lip injections, only bad ones. So there’s no way of knowing really.
Giving our kids phones/tablets from a young age
Adults made unsafe cities where kids cannot play. I was born in 1990 and never could play and explore like you say because of traffic and my parents beijg afraid.
Load More Replies...The giving isn't bad. The not teaching them how to be responsible users and using their devices to track them down is bad.
In our country with our murder rate etc., privacy can get lost. I want to know where my kids are.
Load More Replies...Sorry, A Gen Z said this? Wouldn't they have been given a phone/tablet at a young age by their Millennial or Gen X parent? I mean, I agree. So many people in their early 20s/late teens that I've seen have horrible handwriting because they haven't practiced it enough. I'm not one to talk though. I have atrocious handwriting and I write all the time.
i don't think it's millennial thing, but i'm millennial without kids who got first mobile at 16
Mostly because that when they became affordable and didn't work if you stood next to a tree 😂😂
Load More Replies...Young kids with learning games (math or reading based) are okay, especially those with learning disorders. The 'nose in your phone while at the dinner table' is just too much.
Yip, my policy is at the meal table the devices get turned face down.
Load More Replies...Y'all act like it's just a blanket negative. Like kids can't learn oceans of things by getting on the internet. Or like if they get on the internet, that must mean they never go outside. Also, phones can = safety. When I was a kid and had no way to contact my parents while out alone, I got into a decent number of situations where a cell phone would have come in REALLY handy.
Ya know, my 4 yo was just telling me all about black holes the other day. She learns a lot from YouTube kids and it is great for her English skills since I'm her only other source of English.
Weird a** eyebrows
Show me a decade that doesn't have weird eyebrows!!! Every decade has but we just realise it the next decade when it comes out of fashion
Agreed. 80s had pencil line thin brows. Well before any millenial was old enough to know they could shape their brows.
Load More Replies...My mom plucked her eyebrows thin when it was all the rage and they never grew back…and she’s Gen X so it’s not just Millennials.
I dunno, the current fluffy eyebrow trend where you brush them up weirds me out. I suppose they are better than the Nike eyebrows of yester years
Ugh. Can't stand these horrible penciled-on eyebrows - reminds me of Devine from 'Pink Flamingos'
Meh. One person's weird is another person's culture, or statement, or...oh...did I mention who gives a f*ck what a person wants to do with their eyebrows?
Ugh, try telling this to the teenagers in my area/hometown. Stupid eyebrows will forever be a thing now, it seems. Either overplucked or looking like f*****g caterpillars...
Assign stereotypes to people born in certain years.
Bit why should the next generation be any different to the generations before. Generations have been hating on those that came before and after since before we started assigning trendy labels to them. (Incidentally, what came before the Silent Generation?)
And the fact that they really think this is some new "Millennial trend" is freaking hilarious! Boomers were even complaining about the gen before them!! Contempt and stereotyping for the younger and older generations has been around for a LONG time...
Load More Replies...OK, now I know whoever wrote this list did it to troll or as a joke to see who'd notice. This item is the very definition of what this list is.
I agree but don't get me started on the newest generation. I was in the hospital the other day because a relative was having her baby. And I noticed this newest generation (broadly speaking) can't focus their eyes beyond a few inches, or lift their own heads. And I've been hearing how they don't hold jobs except sometimes in commercials and stuff like that. And they're into stupid things like object non-persistence and simple shiny, colorful objects. And are very much illiterate and don't even speak English properly. What kind of economy will we have with people like that taking over? I'm saying they're going to destroy this country.
This entire post is about assigning stereotypes to people born in certain years AHAHAHAH
Thank you. Millennials are blamed for so much, so are baby boomers. I'm Gen X and we don't get blamed for much but people in each generation have certain traits that shouldn't be attacked by others. I'm tired of seeing baby boomers get stereotyped for being computer illerate. The modern computers were made accessible to everyone because of people from Baby Boomer years. My 88 year old mother is very computer literate!!
In an article named 'Millennial Trends Gen Zers etc etc' MEGA EYEROLL
Saying "gay" to mean stupid/dumb
This. Even in a very progressive city in California, it was extremely normal to hear growing up in the 90s and I'm ashamed at how long it took me to understand how ignorant and hateful it is. Now I have a visceral reaction when my older siblings say it, and I try to encourage better ways of expressing themselves when I hear it!
But this pre-dates millenials by a long way. Doesn't belong on a list with this title.
Load More Replies...Nope but we’ll be the last to use it. Gen Z isn’t going to keep it going.
Load More Replies...Um, that's been around a heck of a lot longer than Millennials have been alive
I'm just tired of people jumping all over me when I call something queer. Look it up in the dictionary, idiots. It's an actual word and its not my fault you're not smart enough to know that. No I'm not being prejudice, it means strange or odd.
While technically correct, gay also once just meant happy. A bitch is also a female dog. Meanings of words change since living languages aren't static.
Load More Replies...Using the word gay to mean happy probably goes back at least 100 years! In fact I'm pretty sure Shakespeare used it in this context and he started writing about 1589! So definitely not a millennial thing and using gay to mean homosexual is much more modern!
I feel this has mostly died out. It was big in the 90s/00s high school kind of scene but not really anymore
Collecting user data for advertising purposes.
They can't use the data that you do not provide. Make it your second nature on social media to lie just about anything and be a pregnant 72 year old female lumberjack working in the Sahara while living in Washington DC with a awfully long daily commute and a craving for pickled herring with pineapple pizza and Budweiser beer.
And that's millenials thing, huh? Not, I don't know, corporate thing or something?
Yep. If you're not paying for a product, you are the product.
Load More Replies...I don't mind this because I prefer to receive relevant adverts. Adverts that are totally irrelevant to me are much more annoying. E.g. I used to get lots of adverts for churches when I didn't let the sites know anything about me. Completely irrelevant and patronising and annoying. Now I put up with a woman doing gym. No idea why it thinks I'm a woman who wants to do gym, but it's better than needing salvation.
It took me YEARS to discover that buried in Google account settings it allows you to disable ads for alcohol! This was lovely to learn, as I do not drink, yet apparently I belong to a demographic group of proficient drinkers.
Load More Replies...It can run ads without needing data. As long as it has ads, it gets revenue.
My parents let me have 0 privacy
Def not continuing that
How the heck is this a "millennial trend" though? Overprotective and nosy parents have been around since time eternal....
When I was a kid, my room was my domain, and my parents didn't invade it just because they felt like it. Kids need their alone time just as much as adults, and any parent who doesn't respect his/her child's right to privacy is setting a bad example.
I'm a GenXer, and my parents never allowed me privacy either. I made sure to allow my daughter privacy. Children are human beings.
Breaking the cycle of bad parenting is so much tougher than people realise. You soon discover that you had normalised a shít ton of neglectful/abusive actions by your own parents when you have a child of your own and the mere thought of treating them the way you were treated makes you feel physically sick
The trouble with absolute privacy is kids get sucked into online bullying and pedofiles. I will definitely be checking their phones for this. They can have privacy once they are 14+ and I can explain what a pedo is without it being too awkward.
And yes, it happens regularly here, especially teachers are sus.

impact font memes and saying "only 90's kids remember this" are high on the list
I've never understood the hatred for a particular font. People hate comic sans like it's written in the blood of infants. WTF is that?
Comic sans is seen as an easy-read font (I believe it was actually invented to help with dyslexia), and therefore associated with children's reading. Which makes it fine for the under-14s section of a library, but not for the important presentation to a board of directors. It's not universal hatred of a font, it's using a font which is deemed "unprofessional" and "childish" in corporate settings. Obviously. (Eye-roll)
Load More Replies...What's wrong with wanting to feel nostalgic? Is it because you don't know what we're talking about? My mom grew up in the 60s and 70s and when she talks about something she had but I didn't, it doesn't bother me.
The 90s kids had it easier than the 80s kids who had it easier than the 70s kids and from that point previously no one actually cares.
I’m wrong. My dad was a 40s kid and while we might not seem like we care, we only evolved to where we are because they had it so difficult.

Looking at generations differently.
No ones gives a damn f--k about which generation you belong, just be nice.
I think there is some value at looking at the big picture. People born between two dates will share similar social? Cultural, pressures that will shape them as they grow. It's interesting how those effects can be passed down to the next generation and so forth. For example how did growing up during the second world war affect people and their values. Did those mentalities stick? How did it effect raising their own kids in the 70s? How did the 60s affect those kids? What changed and stayed with them when they were having kids in the new millennium. How did the new technology and media effect those kids. Etc. BUT blanket statements are always wrong such as millennials are lazy and selfish. Perhaps there are some who fit that description but people are complex and don't fit neatly in boxes
isn't this entire article putting labels and stereotypes based solely on what generation we are?! Practice what you preach maybe.
Language is an art, another form of expressing emotion.

Work for money, not for passion.
I know it’s depressing but recently a lot of younger millennials were talking about how they want to do something they like. My coach is getting a PhD in history, My economics teacher is going to Law School because she doesn’t make enough etc. and I just can’t think of a reason to justify that much debt. Basically they’re putting themselves in tons of debt to make enough money in something they enjoy. I can’t see a reason to justify it enough. I just want to find a field I’m GOOD at and don’t hate.
Well, there are countries where you can do these things without going into unbearable debt!
Boomer here. I somehow landed in a field I'm good enough in and don't hate. Not miserable, work 40-50 hours per week-depending, have most weekends off, can take vacations and holidays. The pay is good. My peers are fun. The secret: find a good company with good benefits, good culture, good peers, good enough manager and good enough pay. Build up experience in every job so you can take your skills with you when you go, if things change. Let your hobbies be your passions. Be open to figuring it out - not all of us know/knew what we wanted to be when we grew up and we somehow landed where we should have.
My mother was a hippy boomer. Loved her to pieces but the worst advice she ever instilled in me was that money is not important.
Oe that if you work hard enough you would get your dream job. F*****g lies.
Load More Replies...Everyone wants a field they're good at and don't hate. The problem is, the vast majority of the time you start out with that and slowly slip into hatred as you realize that almost all jobs suck, you'll always be seen as a peon, and enough pay to live on is a dream.
Yup - wanted to do all sort of of things I love in my 20s that weren't feasible financially. An actress, a dancer, a photographer, a platypus groomer! But then I decided I liked money more, and chose a more lucrative career - which enables me to live with a roof, heat, water and food, all that good stuff. The things I loved are now my hobbies.
I agree. Most people seem to think that if you dont follow your pasisons professionally you are abandoning them. No, make them your hobby. You like animals? Dont study zoology, volunteer once or twice a month at the dog shelter.
Load More Replies...Only in the USA, though. In other countries it's perfectly possible to make a career switch without going bust on tuition fees.
Somewhat. It does depend on what you're moving from and to.
Load More Replies...That's not new, that's been a constant since humans were able to choose careers for themselves and not just accept whatever role their family gave them. There have always been those who chose money as a primary goal, others who chose personal satisfaction, or who wished to help others. Fashions in career goals change, but wanting satisfaction more than big bucks has always been around.
Never. I’d rather die than bury myself in a life where my sole purpose is survival. “Making enough” is not a good reason to spend the best hours of my day doing something I hate.
I quickly realized when I was young that having a roof over my head and food on the table were more important than loving my job.
cancel culture
WTF do you think this entire article is about?! Canceling others and their habits.
No. That’s not what cancellation is. There is no cancel culture. Just people like you who call any form of criticism “cancelling”, getting it all wrong because you weren’t part of the culture that started using the phrase to begin with.
Load More Replies...It is virtual protesting/boycotting. Those have been going on since the dawn of civilization.
Cancel Culture has been alive for much longer than millennials have. Anyone remembers how punks (especially the Sex Pistols) were treated by the media?
Or what happened to the Dixie Chicks when they dared speak out against George Bush Jr and the 2nd Iraq war?
Load More Replies...Cancel culture doesn't exist. It's just another right-wing buzzword for conservatives with a victim complex.
Exactly this. None of these people can name more than five people who have been truly cancelled like Bill Cosby and Paula Deen.
Load More Replies...cancel culture has existed since ancient greece. Google "ostrakon pottery shards"
Exactly. Culture IS cancel culture. Don’t like a product, person, artist, way of thinking, type of political movement? Don’t give it the oxygen of publicity or engage with it. If it is meant to die or disappear then it will. Capitalism will help too, if a product or artist isn’t selling then they’ll fall by the wayside.
Load More Replies...Nope. Everyone agrees some views are beyond the pale in civilized society. It's just a matter of which ones.
Calling out an adult for something they said when they were a teenager is extreme example. They aren't able to move beyond past because they are cancelled for it.People grow up, people evolve, become different people. They aren't given any credit or possibly they are changed people. People make mistakes, especially as teens. Even law enforcement gives them more credit for change.
Load More Replies...The whole term should be cancelled. It is another B.S. way to label something because people don't want to understand complexity in certain issues. The label still means you don't have a clue about anything you are talking about.
I agree that in certain instances it can go too far or be unproductive. But a lot of s**t needed to be cancelled, if we're honest. Too many people not held accountable for their actions for far too long.
Man bun hairstyle
Agreed. And there were PLENTY of man-buns in the 1970's...so the fact that they consider this a millennial thing is ridiculous.

Load More Replies...This is hardly a millenial invention. People have been treating children like unfeeling objects for eons.
I say this as a "millennial" (though must point out the lines between the two are blurred aren't they?) -
Facebook
I have friends also in their early 30s who had kids young. In high school now, teenagers. NONE of that age group use Facebook. It's an "old person's thing" to them. Though being 12/13 it is invariably described as "gay", but you get my point.
As someone who works in the music industry, we plough literally millions (collectively) into Facebook ads each year. But within the next few years it will no longer be our primary social media target.
Which is a shame, because as one of the first and most established social media platforms, it has great advertising tools.
All people have to do is unfriend those they don't want to share stuff with or know anything about, and change the privacy settings. I live 1000km from my parents (and other family), it's an easy way to share pics with more than 1 person at a time. FB market is free to use etc. It's not only fb that collects data either.
Load More Replies...I don’t think tiktok is that much better. So many people are trying to get famous with staged videos and stealing and rebranding other creators’ content. There’s literally a woman that just lipsyncs to male comedians doing their set. Why is that a thing?! And before someone jumps on me, my significant other is a tiktok user so that’s how I know all this.
It is not FB that makes the posts on FB. It DOES have a lot of issues but maybe we should stop blaming social media for PEOPLE acting like d***s and start working on making people better.
Things have always come and gone -- the younger generation will shun what came before because once your mom's doing something, it's obviously no longer cool (insert current slang for cool.)
I live 1250 miles away from most of my family & friends - I love Facebook.
I dunno why people harp on this so much. Things come into fashion, they go out of fashion. It's hardly surprising that something like a website would eventually become obsolete. Sure, it's an "old people thing" now, but why should I give a s**t? It's the main channel I use to stay in touch with friends and family because I'm a huge introvert who never wants to leave my house. I couldn't give a f**k less whether it's still considered "cool" or not.
An organic lifestyle seems expensive and kind of dumb. Organic life style meaning buying food that is significantly more expensive but has an organic label on it.
if you don't want chemicals in your food don't eat food because everything is made of chemicals when you really think about it
Is this a joke? Or the dumbest thing one can say. POisons are made of chemicals, and so is broccoli. There's a big difference in how they affect the body when consumed. Watch what they spray on broccoli to kill pests, read what those sprays are made of, what they do, and you'll know why you must NOT get that inside you.
Load More Replies...Organic food is a con designed to capitalise on people's fear of "chemicals" and their uninformed environmentalism. The alternative to irresponsible non-organic farming is not organic farming. It is responsible farming.
There are plenty of people who understand that organic food might not be necessarily healthier for themselves, but it's is usually much better for the environment (no monoculture, loosing some crops to keep insects alive,...) but especially for the people working with it. Easiest example for that are bananas: absolutely identical on the inside, but massively toxic for the farmers if not organic..
Organic is not completely better for the environment. There have been some studies on it and it's actually quite complicated. There are instances where it is better, where it's no better and where it's worse: https://geneticliteracyproject.org/2021/07/09/organic-vs-conventional-farming-lower-environmental-impact/
Load More Replies...This. It is sad how most eco brands abuse their prices. Being green is nowadays only for the privileged. I would never be able to afford buying in bio supermarkets. I try to eat bio meat eggs and milk; but i will never afford the rest of products just because they make them overpriced. I tried to buy a deodorant with a cardboard package and they were 9 euros the piece!
Actually, the pesticides used in mainstream farming might have significant drawbacks, but so do some of the organic pesticides used in organic farming. The other option is to grow produce without pesticides, weed aggressively, and put a positive spin on the insects (protein bonuses).
So much this. A lot of people think that organic means that there are no pesticides involved in growing it, when in fact there certainly is. It's just that the pesticides have to be naturally occuring, some of which, like copper-sulfate, Rotenone, and nicotine are all approved for organic farming, but are highly toxic in just small amounts.
Load More Replies...I always found the organic craze stupid. I also happened to have a garden, as did my grandpa. Did our veggies and fruits taste better? Yes. Only because we picked them right when they were ripe, not early so they could be shipped. Waste of money for a $5 tomato!
You do realize that everyone in impoverished India eats organic food, right?
I think the real line is between mass produced or home grown. I prefer to plant stuff in my home garden...still GMO seeds but I can control the use of pesticides etc.
I think self deprivation humor is dying and I think millennials started it.
Like it’s seriously getting old when people say they are depressed as a joke.
self deprivation? I mean, I suck and all, but pretty sure deprecation was the word we're looking for. What do I know, I just work here...
Sense of humor in general is lacking - if I cannot make fun of myself and others, I don't wanna live.
You're not even allowed to make fun of yourself because that could hurt someone who is like you... Sorry, but I'm unique so you're offending me.
Is this supposed to be self-deprecating humor? Self-deprivation humor makes no sense.
Being nerdy will no longer be a negative aspect
It never was, they just got bullied by idiots who where too stupid to study so they called skilled people nerds like it was a negative thing.
Again, that started a while ago. Personal opinion: When RPG like Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering gained popularity starting in the 80s, it exploded into mainstream in the 90s, when the "cool kids" started playing. (The whole ridiculous Satanic Scare related to D&D just made it that much more appealing to teens, duh) That was a huge turning point for geek culture, of which I'm a card-carrying member 🙋. Then the boom in the computer industry meant that the best paying jobs were now tailor-made for nerds. Heck, I'm sure even Jeff "I'd rather literally throw my money into the void of space than pay my workers a living wage" Bezos feels humbled when he has to call IT Support. More women are saying that intelligence is very high on their list of things that make them hot... Most men of 2021 are confident enough in their masculinity to prefer brainy partners who can hold their own, intellectually. TL;DR: Being nerdy hasn't really been a very negative aspect for decades
Once you get out of school, being a nerd can be a great thing, or not. Depends on the situation. Same with everything.
I never saw it as negative. Insecure people saw it as negative, but they were the ones everyone secretly knew were lame and let them have their moment because it’s all over when school ends buddy.
I don't think it's a negative aspect since we've got so many conventions and groups to represent this demographic...it's people who didn't understand or the select few jerks who made it into the groups that create a negative stereotype.
Smoking.

Thinking the world is going to end at the turn of a new generation
Every generation was sure that the next generation would destroy the world. Now we're at the point that we know that the next generation will have to deal with what we are destroying right now. And our world leaders do not care about the generations to come.
It’s not going to end at the turn of a new generation, it is and always has been “ending”. I agree that the blame should not be put on new generations (they’re the least to blame because they are the newest product of and educated by the past generations) but we can’t turn a blind eye that we are collectively destroying earth.
The Skrillex cut I’m hoping it will be seen as the mullet 2.0 that it is before too long.
Again. Lets leave people alone with their own style. Its not hurtning anybody.
Depending on the style, i agree. I may not like it, but it's yours, so whatevs. But it comes to a point where it is harming somebody- it's hurting my eyes 🙈😱👀
Load More Replies...This is down to personal preference...I can't pull this off in a million years but there are people who look super cool with it. Let them do it if that's what they want.
My bestie looks so cool and sexy when she cut her hair like that. Not something I could pull off but it looked fantastic on her.
I wanted to wear that in '90s but I would been expelled - I wear it now and I love it
I don't personally like it but hey, not my hair or head so not my concern. Move on, keep the negative thoughts inside. To each their own.
Make fun of kids that play fortnite, like seriously just let kids have fun
I don't make fun of those who play it, I just make fun of the actual game because it really is awful.
That's why we make fun of people clinging to guns and muscle cars to prove how adult they are.
I love Fortnight, it keeps the Toxic 10yo's out of the games I like to play... So its just the salty and toxic adults instead. But at least the shrieking of "go kill yourself" isnt shrill.
This is in direct contrast to some other points here but points out what should have been the main theme "let people have fun".
Making fun of the teenagers of the nest generation and gatekeeping mental illnesses
Unless they're labeling a generation after a video doorbell, pretty sure it's a typo
Load More Replies...You'll make fun of the next generation of teenagers too. You're not any different, you just don't know it yet.
Making fun of teenagers happens every generation, kid. And it will probably always happen.
Getting a degree in art history and wondering why I’m not employed
We will soon live in a colorless world void of the things that make life worth living, because it isn't something that can pay. I find that utterly sad.
You can't eat a painting. And that isn't true anyway. Art isn't going to die because of fewer "art historians."
Load More Replies...i just hope more kids get into boilermaking, carpentry and other trades.
Absolutely. I'd be more worried about a shortage in those fields, to name a few, than a shortage of artists. Tradesmen, craftsmen, builders, fixers.. The problem is kids these days think those kinds of jobs are beneath them. They think a minor degree in something ending in "arts" or "studies" from their local community college entitles them to a $250K a year job before the ink on the diploma dries.
Load More Replies...You know what out lasts social media, corporations, and technology? Art. So perhaps the issue is how we value things because a degree in art history has value, it is just not compensated accordingly. Also, you can get a degree in just about anything and find a job regardless. Art history major? Get a job in administration easy because they only care that you have a degree period. Our director for human research has her PhD in philosophy. Guy that runs half of the medical center has his PhD in agriculture.
And you sound like an idiot. "Boomers" aren't the ones who think a degree in flower arranging and basket weaving entitles us to a $500K a year job.
Load More Replies...didn't churchill say something about ... why are we fighting the nazis if not to save british art (culture)?
I found this very interesting and looked it up.. He didn't
Load More Replies...This is such horseshit. Get a degree in whatever you want, just have a plan for actually being employed in that field. You can get a job with an art history degree FFS. Quit shitting on the arts to feel superior.
Degrees aren't necessarily training programs or trade schools. You can get a degree in art history and still work in another field.
Born in '98, so I don't know which side of the debate I'm on (personally, I think millenial = pre-2000, so I think I'm a millenial).
Cable television. I really think making TV for streaming services is where we should end up.
The problem is the streaming service is now becoming the new cable TV. You want NCIS? Only on the NBC stream. Marvel Movie? Oh that's only on Disney. Witcher? Netflix. You want to watch all the shows you want, you need to have a dozen streaming services which cost just as much as cable TV.
Streaming services is kinda what cable used to be. Pay for no ads.
Well, you’d have to go after the billions made by the entertainment industry on that one. And it sure as hell ain’t a millennial thing.
Cable/satellite as it currently stands will end. But, in the US at least, there are regulations on them that don't apply to streaming services. This easily adds $10 to $15 to your bill that isn't required on streaming, but that will change. Also people have been asking for a la carte cable for a while, but if you look at the cost of streaming services that are coming out for what was previously just "one channel" you'll see that the average cost is 5-15 per service. you get 10 "channels" and you're looking at a bill close to cable. I think cable companies will start managing your streaming services and getting you discounts when you bundle certain ones through them... and then we're looking at the exact same industry with a different delivery method
Not true. Streaming services are commercial who'll tell you anything that the best paying party is telling them to tell you. "This is the news sponsored by the GOP: In another blatant attempt to destroy our freedom, the Democrats just proposed to ban abortion and limit the possession of fire arms."
I'm a millenial but my cousin is Gen Z and when we hang out she refuses to watch Star Trek. So based on a sample size of one, Gen Z is going to kill the Star Trek franchise.
Nothing will kill Star Trek. Its impact can't be underestimated, especially the way in which it used fictional storytelling to comment on social issues.
Which is nonsense, because many people, both millennials and Gen Z love Star Trek. And I don't mean just J. J. Abrams movies.
Nope. My "Gen Z" kids (and I) are CRAZY about Star Trek. It spans ALL generations because it's that good!
That’s because current Star Trek is embarrassingly bad garbage. The old ones are good. Just like sitcoms. It’s a lost art form.
Nobody watches Le Voyage dans la Lune anymore, but it still exists in pop culture.
Tell her you hate it -- worked with the millennial hipsters, might work for GenZ too
I’m not allowed to watch it but have seen bits of it STAR TREK IS SO GOOD
One Gen Z doesn't like it so none of the others will? Alright that makes sense...in a way. I think
It's more a preference for what YOU like. My mum is a Trekkie, she introduced me to both Star Wars and Star Trek. I prefer Star Wars over Star Trek. Those two franchises have their own styles and longevity
Drinking ipa beer, thats a no go from me
Indian Pale Ale, or IPA, contains a lot of hops because they preserved the beer. We don't tend to eat overly salted meat anymore because we have refrigeration, so things like this will probably phase out due to technical advances. What you are complaining about are hipsters and their taste in non-mainstream things.
Agree. This one is on us and the young Gen-Xers. For that, I apologize.
Top-sheets. I’ve never seen the point in those
This is an American thing not a millennial thing. In Europe we use duvets and change and wash the duvet cover.
But if you have a top sheet under the duvet, then you don't need to wash the duvet as often. 🧐
Load More Replies...The topsheet just feels so much better than against my skin than a blanket. The topsheet will never die in my house.
As someone who lived for years overseas where they use duvet covers, don't EVEN come at me with duvet covers as a defense of no top sheets. You have no idea (really, actually you have NO idea if you haven't lived in places where we use top sheets to make your comparison.) Top sheets are still WAY better than those pain-in-the-a**e duvet covers to wash/change out. I LOVE using duvet covers so that I don't have to wash my blankets nearly as often, but they should not replace the top sheet. Yes, this is the hill I will die on...top sheets! ;-)
I'm an European convert to the top sheet and you have my full support. Pls. don't die - let's live in luxury :)
Load More Replies...You tend to sweat and lose skin cells from all areas of your body, not just the side that is touching the bottom sheet... top sheets are easier to wash than a thicker blanket. Also top sheets let you have the comfort of fabric covering you with less heat retained than a comforter, if you run hot at night like I do
Totally agree with Cave Dog. What kind of filthy animal doesn't use a top sheet?
Early 2000 fashion, hot dog that was bad. I want anyone who contributed to that to cry over their mistakes.
1970s would like to thank you for letting them off the hook
Load More Replies...fashion is looking great when viewed from the present and looking like an idiot when viewed from any other point in history
You'll do it again, and you know it. I've lost count of how many times I've seen old fashions made new again: bell bottoms, platform shoes, heavy mascara and eyeliner, skinny jeans, miniskirts, and on and on. Every generation thinks it invented fashion.
It’s coming back. STRONG. Flares? Low rise will be next. Crop tops, mullets, will we see the scary thin eyebrows again?
The Jordache and Members Only jacket are joking about the bell-bottom jumpsuits. Or maybe it's any fashion that's 10-20 years old.
Not knowing how to invest and losing like 10% of your wealth every year.
Based on the surveys I've seen, Gen Z apparently thinks millennials are complaining about nothing in regard to the economy. Benefit of not graduating right as the economy crashed, I guess. See a lot of them refusing to vote, too.
this is what I get for not updating my data. 30% of eligible Gen Z voters turned out for the 2018 midterms, which is far better than I expected. My bad.
Avocado toast
To me this trend is hilarious 😆 I’m 70 and my Grandma had an avocado tree. I’ve been having avocado toast for at least 65 years. SMH
not something millennials started, dont remember eating this when I was a teenager in the 00's no one ate this !!!!!
I didn't know this was fashionable, but we have a country next door that farms them easily due to monsoon weather and sell them dirt cheap on the roadside. (Mozambique).
I grew up in Swaziland in the late 60s, when I came back to UK avocados were rare and expensive. So I mashed them on toast to eke them out. Half a century ago.

wearing scarfs all year round
What's wrong with this? People have been wearing silk scarves and cotton bandanas in summer for hundreds of years. They keep the sun off your neck.
I am 100% with you I dont wear them all the time but that fashion has been around for 100's of years!

Being social
Don't see why being social should be discontinued. People are a social species who can suffer from loneliness. If you want a society where dead people behind closed doors become the norm, you should definitely ban being social.
I'm sorry but we are the generation that went from talking to friends' parents on the home phone to don't call me unless you are dying!!
We are...but we're probably also better off if some of them just stay sealed in their homes and never come out.

Maybe we could get away from the whole imaginary "Gen Whatever" nonsense and start focusing on real things like, y'know, why Libras hate Leos and those awful people with RH-negative blood types.
As someone with AB-, I can confirm that we are awful. I procreate with a positive blood type so I've done my part to end my negative lineage
