This Is A Children's Faerie Garden I Planted A Few Years Ago. It Lives On A 5 Foot Boulder, Has A Variety Of Evergreen And Deciduous Trees And Ground Covers, Mosses And Succulents. It's A Miniature Living Ecosystem That Goes Dormant In Winter And Is Home To Bees, Birds, Butterflies, Beetles And Fae
See, if it was mine the first plants would already be dying when I'm planting the last
i agree cuz that would happen to me as well :')

woah what?? I'm not working (I don't feel comfortable to yet, we haven't found the right meds for my epilepsy) but I'm doing work around the house so I can earn money to buy things. My parents wouldn't pay me if they didn't have the money, but I still know work= money to buy stuff (like FOOD)
Load More Replies...I believe those are tomatillos (Mexican husk tomato). They are delicious in salsas and other cuisine.
Load More Replies...I'm an old time gardener and failed at raising tomatillos so more power to her! Good job! That looks like the beginnings of an awesome hot sauce!
I got hungry just by looking at everything. I want to make a Mexican style salad.
We asked Charles Dowding what he would recommend to a first-time gardener who was nervous to begin. “Start small, say one bed of 1.2 x 2.4m. Adopt the no-dig approach: It's simple and easy, based on two things. One, the soil is undisturbed, allowing its organisms to work and multiply. You build on top of the existing network of life. And also it’s fine to dig a hole to plant a tree, or when harvesting potatoes!”
“Two, feed soil inhabitants with organic matter on the surface, from where they take it down. This aerates the soil and sets up a larder of nutrients for plant roots.” Charles is an advocate for leaving the soil ecosystem intact when gardening, as it’s more sustainable and can save you a lot of work. Let’s face it, digging is not a particularly fun activity unless you happen to be a mole.

Should Have Let My Dogs Handle The Fall Planting!
I can just imagine the OP making pumpkin pies and giving them away. "So...funny story about the pumpkins I used..."
I did something similar with cherry trees in our garden, though I spat the seeds out.
My dog bulldozed through the fences (yes plural) and ripped all the pumpkin plants out. He also ate every tomato and cucumber with his brothers assistance and pulled out some of those plants once they were empty.
Ain’t Stupid If It Works
Doesn't work on snails and slugs either. Know your specific enemy!
Load More Replies...This is brilliant! I wonder what works to keep squirrels away from veggies.
Very smart, but give the crows some shiny things to make up for pecking on rocks. It doesn't have to be expensive like a short string of polished beads or metal bits from things going to recycling. They love that and they will take their finds to their next where they keep their collection. The crows might even figure out that the metal is good while strawberries are bad.
We also wanted to know what misconceptions Charles has run into when educating and training other gardeners. “It's easier than often claimed. You don't need to dig, you don't need to practice a rotation, you don't need to feed or fertilize your plants unless in containers, you can walk on your beds if you need to, and you have plenty of scope to be creative.” He recommends using free, online resources like YouTube to learn more.

“When starting out, weeds can be tamed easily with surface covers such as cardboard in particular. Soil that is firm is not compacted, and plants like rooting into firm soil. You can plant into straight compost, Plants then root down into the soil below,” he added, giving some more specific examples of how a novice gardener could start and what not to be afraid of. In general, fear of gardening is a bit irrational, it's not like the dead plants will take revenge.
My Son's Memorial Garden. Gardening Helps Me So Much Mentally To Get Through Some Really Rough Moments. October Is Both My Son's Birth Month And Death. This October He Will Be Gone 2 Years. He Would Be 19 This Year. How Does Gardening Help You?
these types of posts remind me that love is real, and people care about me and other people, even when the people around me are terrible.
Beautiful place to honor your son. So sorry you had to lose him so young
How does gardening help? Because you're never finished, so you get up to do a bit more every day. Because you wait for the seeds to come up, for the plants to develop buds, for flowers or fruit. You look to the future in your garden, not just to the past. And there is something soothing about that.
I'm so sorry for your loss. What a gorgeous and loving way to honour your son's memory. I am sure that he is sitting there with you when you plant flowers and sit on the bench.
Thank you, Husband has just been accepted to hospice. A garden spot might help me cope ( he used to help me)

Pulled A Test Ear On The Glass Gem Corn! Zone 5b
Knew I couldn't be the only one. Wonder how it tastes?
Load More Replies...It does, which is why it's not commonly eaten like corn on the cob or even fresh/cooked after being cut off the cob the way typical corn is. Mostly it's used as an ornamental or for things like cornmeal after being dried. It's not as sweet or "corny" as most corns you'll find, but it's also not bad, necessarily. It just doesn't have that same "POP, now that's good corn" taste, lol. It also doesn't really have that crunch.
Load More Replies...I accidentally grew corn 2 summers ago. I think I had about 6 stalks growing from kernels that were in bird feed; they grew aroundmy bird feeders. They didn't grow to maturity though because my dogs are jerks

The' I Dream of Jeannie' came to my mind seeing it.
Load More Replies...Lastly, we wanted him to expand upon what resources a beginner could use to develop their skills. Firstly, he recommended his book, as well as guides he put together to help keep track of planting times and other seasonal effects. Note that much of the information is geared toward the UK. Lastly, he encouraged an attitude of curiosity and to be constantly asking questions. “How do plants grow? (new research into rhizophagy shows the importance of bacteria). How much watering is necessary? (often less). What is the best spacing? (depends partly on what you want from the plants).”

Grew This Beautiful Giant From A Seed. Absolutely Thrilled. This Is By Far My Pride And Joy
I grew a sunflower that tall once. It's stem was so thick and woody, I had to chop it down with a hatchet at the end of the season!
I've always wanted to see sunflowers that big. Closest I've gotten to seeing any sunflowers at all were two that were by my school for some reason. I've always loved them
Load More Replies...I love sunflowers. They make me happy and remind me of summer time.
You know that the birds are going to get all those seeds, so don't plan on getting many seeds, if any at all.
Behold My Bountiful Harvest!
O ‘tis a mighty harvest! I will prepare a bountiful feast immediately 😁
Watch it be like 10x spicier than a bigger pepper/ Maybe that's all you need? ;)
As previously mentioned, no dig could be a great way to start gardening if you happen to be in an area that is relatively fertile. While it has numerous environmental benefits, the main advantage for the novice gardener is that it does not require nearly as much physical work. Who wants to pull a muscle digging holes all day just to see a crop die? Perhaps that sounds pessimistic, but like cooking or pottery, you need to accept that the first few attempts might not work out. If you're feeling inspired, feel free to check out our other gardening article here.

Load More Replies...*chrysalis. Not a cocoon. They are different things.
Load More Replies...You can actually move it if you want to. Just get some unwaxed dental floss. You should see w sort of web of silk at the top where it is attached to the handle. Gently remove the chrysalis and take the floss and tie it around the stub at the top then tie it somewhere safe where the monarch can eclose. I raised monarchs last winter season (but am by no means an expert) and did this with mine and ended up releasing close to 70 butterflies.
That's so amazing! Would the chrysalis be impacted by changes in temperature or humidity if it was moved?
Load More Replies...I thought the underside was a potato but I did see the cocoon.😅

This needs more upvotes! Although keep the lemon tree away from the cat because it might be dangerous for it
We also reached out to Katrina Harrison from ‘Homegrown Garden’ to find out a bit more regarding advice for beginner gardeners. "Grow what you want to grow, now what you think you should grow. I remember when I grew loads of kale one year because it was the winter plant that stood up to all the weather, not realizing at the time that I hated the stuff! Embrace the failures as part of the learning process and always start small. You’ll have more success if you focus your learning on growing just a few crops rather than trying to do everything in your first year."

Load More Replies...Helpfully, she also gave some examples of common misconceptions people tend to have. "Gardening can be done on a balcony, a single pot outside your front door, or on a window ledge. These small spaces are often those that desperately need greening up and it benefits those around you and the wildlife too. Also, I think a lot of people believe that to grow anything successfully you need to have a south-facing, sunny garden when in fact some of my favorite ornamental plants thrive in shady conditions. Ornamental plants such as hellebores, ferns, and even edible crops like lettuce, spinach, and beetroot don’t mind shade and won’t be quick to go to seed in the summer heat."

Funny story about dahlias: many years ago I was a guide for a group of Mexican tourists (they were lovely people) and we saw a woman with a huge bunch of dahlias. They asked me, why would she carry a bunch of dahlias, and I answered "probably as a gift for somebody's birthday or another holiday". They were stunned" - But how can you give dahlias as a gift, they are just your basic roadside flowers, it's not done!" ))
I love Dahlias, but alas, have very little luck with them. We live in a condo now, so only have deck space instead of a garden :(
I Was Wondering Why My Kale Was Missing Leaves At The Base
However tall that enterprising bunny can make itself, that's how bare your kale will be!
This is both hilarious, and adorable, while being potentially frustrating too. We have a rabbit who absolutely loathes kale-and a lot of other plants including veggies. It took us almost a year to get him to like carrot, which is just odd. He did however munch off the bottom branches on a few plants and chomp down a bunch of grasses after pulling a houdini once. Thankfully he wasn't missing long, but he left a pattern of destruction everywhere he went before we found him.
Grew a garden on summer couldn't get the green bean plant to produce. One day discovered my own dog was on a green bean mission and had to make amends to bunnies, chipmunks and raccoons.
I've never trusted people who eat kale on purpose.

Load More Replies...It looks sweet but I don't think the fishies will stay around long. All sorts of critters like eating fish and they have no problems getting into the water to catch them.
Great idea, could use a few adjustments. I see other people have already suggested oxygenating plants and some branches. I'd also add some rocks that the fish can hide in, maybe even some native reeds, which will also attract birds. Some local mussels would help keep the water clear - and maybe give a struggling species a little boost, because lots of shellfish are under threat from invasive species and pollution. If you really want to get into this, you could plant a tree to eventually provide shade - direct summer sun is tough on fish.
