Visual artist, designer, and musician Marcel Heijnen uses photography to express his curiosity-driven creativity. Originally from the Netherlands, he has been calling Asia home for the past 26 years.
When he moved to Hong Kong he was immediately drawn to an unusual local phenomenon – cats living inside the traditional shops and markets – so he made a photography series. Although focusing on the fabulous furry companions of shop owners, his photographs reveal the busy and colorful behind-the-scenes of Hong Kong’s businesses. His collection of feline businessmen quickly turned into a charming book titled “Hong Kong Shop Cats”, and you can peek into the book by checking the post previously featured on Bored Panda.
This time, Marcel is back with more employed pets that brighten workers’ days. For his new brilliant series “Hong Kong Garage Dogs”, he has captured dogs living in car workshops, guarding them from potential thieves. With all the dirt, oil, engines and generally manly environment, these photos might not necessarily look cute on the outside, but they most definitely prove Marcel’s words: that dogs are “the ying to the shop cats’ yang”.
His new book featuring canine models is launching on November 29th at G.O.D. PMQ.

Looks healthy and well cared for - better like then roaming the streets
Load More Replies...Yes, both! Doggo looks happy and man has a kind smile.
Load More Replies...This one could totally serve as a cover for a sci-fi comicbook or video game.
I like your idea. Gorgeous doggie with an H. R. Giger backdrop.
Load More Replies...Looks like he takes his job seriously - any car-part thieves can just keep moving.
I believe most of the bigger dogs in these pictures are Akitas, crossed with one or two other breeds
Load More Replies...My thought too. Or a "Taxi Driver" "You lookin at ME?"
Load More Replies...Probably to keep him safe wearing that and away from anything too dirty or dangerous in that condition.
Load More Replies...I would say to keep him in a safe place while autos are being moved around - the other pictures of this dog - he isn't chained and in one he had a cone on so I'm guessing he was also neutered - looks like a VERY well - Loved dog to me!!!
Load More Replies...My friends had a dog with a hair-trigger temper, and even when they had him wear a dog vest emblazoned with "Don't pet me, I bite" people still tried to pet him.
Load More Replies...That would depend on after work, they may have hours of love and fun, and during the day they are not alone !!!
Load More Replies...I do have a lot of beds and bankets for my dog. He always prefers to lie on the hard floor tiles.
Load More Replies...Not a smile on any of theses faces .....and dogs do smile of course . Still I s'pose it beats being on the menu !😱
Too bad they are only on the concrete, should have something to lay on !!!
There were several that weren't restrained. I agree, if they weren't happy they'd just leave.
Load More Replies...Not sure why they think this is unusual. Every auto shop I ever knew in America had a dog living there. One shop I used to frequent had 3 Akita's. Good dogs and they always let the shop owner know when a customer was waiting int he lobby.
I stayed at this photographer's Airbnb this summer! Wonderful tiny studio (in Hong Kong it should be quite spacious I should say) with his own artwork, books, guitar and keyboard.
A great idea that many work places allow the dogs to come to work !!!
People, please take good care of your pups, don´t let them be stolen & sold as #DogMeat, #EndTheDogAndCatMeatTrade in China & in other Asian coutries...
