Feline behaviorist Lucy Hoile, who runs an awesome Facebook page where she shares funny and informative cat-related content, said that whether we like it or not, our furry companions probably think we're just as random as we make them out to be.
"Changes in human lifestyles that seem normal to us (such as moving into a different house or a partner moving in) can completely unsettle a cat," Hoile told Bored Panda.
"They appreciate a predictable routine and fit their activities in around us, often waking up with us in the morning or when we come home from work."

My russian blue Fyodor (assuming this is one) also sleeps like this. Or like a seal. Everyone who meets him think he’s the weirdest cat ever with all his special needs things. Hear a lot like that about that race.
Some say that the differences between humans and cats is what always keeps us apart, claiming that since these animals evolved as solitary hunters with little need for reading social cues, especially those for behavior modification, they are hard to train. While there might be truth to these words, Hoile thinks that cats can be trained just as easily as dogs (or any other animal), just with a few additional considerations.
"Training with rewards is most effective with cats, they will rarely do something for nothing! The tricky part is finding something motivating enough to use as the reward; it's got to be worth it!" she explained.
"Smelly food usually works well e.g. small amounts of chicken or tuna. Training sessions should be short, as they can lose interest quickly and sessions should be split into small, easily achievable steps."

I have a cat who is the reason our bottled water is in a plastic storage bin. She likes to get inside the opened plastic wrapper and bite bottles. You go to get a bottle to drink, and wonder why the plastic wrapper is damp. You write it off to condensation or something, until water spurts out the tiny tooth-sized hole in the side of the bottle you just picked up.

I have a cat that does the same thing! But she bites big holes in it to get to the water, which she then drinks out of the plastic wrap. I have to be sure to put all of the bottles away after I bring a case home so she can't get to them. She's a nut!

Also, you have to remember that every kitty is different. And we still don't have a complete explanation as to why. But we're getting there! For example, a new study by researchers at Azabu University in Japan suggests that cats' gut microbiomes and hormones like cortisol, oxytocin and testosterone may explain why some felines get along well with others and why some are more aloof.
The scientists split 15 shelter cats into groups, placing five random cats in three 13-by-25-foot rooms for two weeks. During this period, they used video cameras to observe the cats' behavior, and they collected urine and feces to measure hormones and microbial species present.

My cat 1) hid in the vet's handbag when he was a kitten, 2) on another visit, pooped in the vet's office
They found that cats who had higher cortisol and testosterone concentrations exhibited fewer social behaviors like grooming, sharing food or sniffing, while those with lower amounts of cortisol and testosterone were more social.
Additionally, cats with similar microbiomes had more frequent contact with each other, and those with higher testosterone levels were more likely to try to escape.

Does he really "yell" or does he just open his mouth like that? Cats have a gland filled with olfactory sensors (what gives us mammals the sense of smell) in their mouths. They will use it when smelling something new or something they are unsure about and for many other reasons ...ahem...mating and such. Or maybe he's like my mom's cat Jonesy, who yells before he does any d**n thing.

My cat loves mint too. He used to climb on my lap for petting, and very carefully work my mint lip balm out of my pocket. Once it was far enough out to grab, it was in his mouth and he was running away. Had to save the tube when I ran out so he’d have his own to carry around the house.

This reminds me of my favourite cat Toffee would play with his tail like a dog, chasing it running around in circles. My cat does this every evening with her giant rat plushie, giving the exact same look! Sometimes multiple times a day. Once in a while she’ll even bring it to my bed and drop it near my head. You’ll know when she’s going to because she parades around the house meowing loudly with the toy in her mouth first. One time I put her toy near someone she’s scared of and she brought a different toy, then later on returned with THE toy after all, apparently she’d been watching and waiting for the person to go to the toilet to quickly grab it. >.< Other times she’ll come up to me, toy in mouth, meowing her head off, look at me and then walk past and drop it in the middle of the garden. Sometimes she’ll pick it up near me super quietly, sneak to the doorway with it and then turn around and start the routine. It’s adorable.

Both my boys play fetch. Usually in the middle of the night. One likes to bring me sopping wet pipe cleaners which he drops on my bed and waits until I roll over onto the wet spot 🤦🏼♀️

ours doesn't fetch but otherwise dogs very well too :) we call him the Orange Dog. Spends more time with the pack than the other cats.

My 3 boys loved chasing bouncy balls. Just roll them like bowling balls, and they go *bzoom!* Their sister also liked playing fetch with food; I'd scatter kibble like chicken feed on the porch and she'd go bananas. (All were 100% outside bc their mom was a stray and dad was feral. He vanished after they and mom got rehomed.)

You are ignorant, Stacy. If responsible breeders didn't exist, as much as you want to demonize them, the world would lose some of our favorite domesticated breeds. Responsible breeding is what allows golden retrievers to exists, it's how we will keep fluffy Persian cats around that can breathe well, it extends to EVERY domestic animal, from pet chickens to horses. Sphynx are responsibly bred, too. Don't knock a breed. You're clearly uninformed. The key is responsible breeders, ones who have few litters with healthy animals. I 100% support adoption and love mixed breed animals, but that doesn't make purebred animals the enemy or wrong.

I had a cat named Mouse when I was a teen. She was polydactyl and I wanted to name her Toes but my mom said that was the dumbest name she ever heard for a cat and took pick a new one, so I went with what I thought would be the dumbest name for a cat. Mouse was a good girl for a long time though. RIP Mousie.

I have a cat who loves to track, kill, and eat bugs. We’ve finally resigned ourselves to it, for the most part. She actually loves to help us catch flies that get in when we can’t do it ourselves. But we also have the random wasp that gets in—-old house, we have yet to locate their entry area—-and buzzes around. One day I caught Tabitha playing with one, and getting ready to pounce and chomp on it. I intercepted and got the wasp to fly away from her. I went and got an old bottle I use to trap and release bugs if they get inside (trap inside, release outside), got the wasp in it and put it outside. Tabitha looked daggers at me for stealing her toy/snack. I just told her that one was waaaaaay too spicy for her; that she would’ve ended up with a painful swollen face and I would’ve ended up with an equally painful vet bill. I may not be forgiven for it yet, but I don’t care.

Well done! 😺 We used to have a cat that would run in panic whenever any kind of flying insect approached his face... We never knew what exactly happened to him before we had taken him in, but probably got stung in the nose by a wasp or something. 😿

It’s something I discourage mine from doing by placing the dryer on top of my upright freezer in the laundry. She’s tried time and time again to get in it but can’t. Too them it’s the perfect cat house not dangerous machinery
